Underrated US thing: University Libraries are open to the public. I don't know about the rest of the world, but in Ireland we've got to scan our student cards at a turnstile like its a train station. In the US, you can just walk in off the street. Which feels like a pretty cool thing for the public availability of academic resources.
#I was thinking about doing a distance learning course in heritage conservation#but was hesitant bcs I'd probably need access to an academic library to do it well#but then I checked universities in areas I might be moving to for work and sure enough#all of them are open to the public#I knew the University of Vermont was but that could've been a fluke. nope! and I think that's great
