Also that tag about HP being vilified from the other side earlier on is so true, I remember at church as a kid there was always someone complaining about how it was about "evil magic and witches" and even though my family was more reasonable and I always knew it was okay to read fantasy, I still never got into the series until later, and almost immediately after I bought the books and started getting into the fandom I found out about the author's awful tweets and stuff, it really feels like there was about a one-day window of okay-ness for me to get into it lol!

LOL, I WAS that kid for several years, to my everlasting embarrassment. Didn't read it until college, at which point I was in a group of friends who ALSO felt that way so my one friend who convinced me to read it and I referred to it as "the book about the boy on the train."

#this might be a suuuuuper unpopular opinion but personally #I kinda think ''reading hp will make you a t*rf'' has exactly the same flavor and weight as ''reading hp will make you a witch''#obviously there are elements of ''she's still making money off the series so don't support that'' esp. with how... gloating she is about it #but like... don't feel ashamed for liking something you read as a kid or at a formative stage #believe it or not there are a lot of problematic artists and writers in the world and in history #she's a little different because she's CURRENTLY benefiting from things #and you have to weigh that when deciding how much you want to engage with the series/fandom #but don't let tumblr culture dictate morality to you either. make your own choices -- and if you still want to consider yourself a fan #WITH the necessary context and disclaimers #you actually CAN do that. there's nuance here. tumblr puritanism is dreadful sometimes #anyway i'm a slytherin even if I've always disliked the author as a person so imma go enjoy impulse's stream now byeeeeeee #redwinteranswers
