going to interpret having no space come august in THE most positive way: it'll compel me to be extremely thoughtful and careful about the artwork that really matters to me and put the rest aside. and it will force me to stop buying things I don't need love and light. especially since I'm getting a cat bc they need their OWN furniture 😭

Here are my thoughts about Trench. They might include references to Blurryface which is connected, and Vessel which might be connected to the album in some way. These are just my theories and some of them are based on Clifford Stumme.
1. Setting/structure
Dema (aka "the tower of silence") itself might be Tyler's head. It could also represent his creativity. In an interview with Apple Music he stated that his Studio where he creates music is very quite.
Nico is Blurryface. But together with the other Bishops he represents writers block and the fear of being unoriginal, a "copy" -Morph 1"21'
Blurryface is red, so are the Bishops in Trench, while everything else changed color to Yellow.
Tumblr media
Trench is about fighting Nico. Such as Blurryface mostly introduced him and showed Tyler/Clancy mainly being afraid of him. Also then he is given no name as Blurryface is only a vague idea of an Image. Now he gets a name to make him know and be fought.
The album can be divided in two kinds of songs; Bandito-themed and Bishops-themed. The Banditos are everyone joining forces against the Bishops in Dema (in this case Tyler's life); family, friends and fans. As Tyler mentioned that this album is about those people.
I hope this mess clears up after a while.
2. Songs in general
Jumpsuit
The record kicks off with a Bandito-themed track that kinda sets up the "post Blurryface" era as "pressures of a new place. But Blurryface is not gone, also somewhat cipher "spirits in my room, friend or foe". The jumpsuit itself symbolises protection as it covers the whole body. The "cover me" is also ment as "protect me". But a jumpsuit is not an armor and not resistant of brute force. "I'll be right there"; Clancy gives in sometimes. Just like Tyler in Vessel's Migraine; "sometimes to stay alive, you gotta kill your mind"
The bridge could also go out to the Banditos Clancy's trying to help but can't, cos he's fighting with Nico.
Levitate
Levitate is Nico-themed and addresses him personally and calling him a "coward". Clancy is ready to fight (breath fire). Later on the song changes narrative and Nico starts introducing himself as a "volture who feeds on pain". Levitation symbolises freedom and resistance against a strong force like gravity or in this case fear.
Morph
Oh boy...
Morph by itself is an unbelievably deep song. Long story short, it is about fear "if is purely panic", about Tyler thinking about his death and about the fear of being unoriginal. Also about being someone your not or trying to be in order to outrun fear of being imperfect. The track is Nico-themed. "There's no above, or under, or around it" means you can't run from who you really are.
My Blood
Another Bandito-themed track about working together even if "surrounded and up against the wall". Tyler has stated that My Blood is about his brother. The image of the lion continues as introduced in Migraine. The whole song could be a cal back to Vessel's the run and go. But now it's not Tyler who's running, but his blood.
Chlorine
Chlorine is poison but also a sterilizer. The first line might be Nico himself greeting the Clancy. Over all Chlorine is about the process of writing. The chemical itself symbolises music. Drinking it is deadly. Tyler fights with suicidal thoughts. "Running for my life". Clancy thinks of leaving Dema "If I leave don't save my seat" the leave might also mean death which would make sense if Dema is considered Tyler's life. Later on he talks to Nico like an old friends and apologized for forgetting him. This might mean, that our bad parts also make us who we are, so we don't have to "morph to someone else". While Clancy won the first round of confrontation with Nico himself in levitate, with force and distancing (fire), he takes a different approach this time. He allows Nico to come close and he seems lost; "can you build my house...I'm just a chemical". This is a Nico-themed song.
Smithereens
Smithereens is a Bandito-themed song about Tyler's wife. He mentions that she knows about his struggle and it's kind of this you know that I know.
Neon Gravestones
Generally the song is about suicide. The hook is that Tyler is not planning to kill himself. Nico attacks and toin this song the Bishops represent a society that glorifies celebrity's suicide, but don't care about "a kid".
Tumblr media
If mirrored the neon structure in the Nico and the Niners music video it could resemble the I-/ logo. It might be Clancy's neon gravesone that the Bishops are already producing and dancing around it. It could also resemble the squares inside of Dema.

Like seen on the official audio.
The Hype
The Hype is about the Banditos helping Clancy when he struggles. Clancy doesn’t “believe the hype” about his rebelion. While Tyler is stunned about the massive aprecianion from his fans. They both act imulsively but get help on the way. Also the Banditos schouldn’t “believe the hype” as well.  Tyler also tells that noone is perfect and noone should be upset about it.
Nico And The Niners
The track is generelly about Clancy telling the Banditos not to believe the Bishpos. in one of the first lines Tyler tells his fans not to practice self harm “save your rasor blades, not yet” he could also tell the Banditos to stay “low”. Later on he never the less does mention to “start a mob”.  The Banditos stay the theme in this track. It shows the first actions of the rebellion itself. It’s no longer a fight between Nico and Clancy. Now it’s the Bishops vs the Banditos in “rebel clothes”. But despite of being “fearless”, “so high” and not controlled at the moment, Clancy still has to be “runing from a fire”. The image of Fire as power over the oponent (introduced in Levitate) is back. Also the Jumpsuit is mentioned. The revered voices at the beginning and in the bridge reveresed reveal “We denounce Vialism
You will leave Dema and head true east
We are Banditos” and “We are Banditos”. The “East is up” is an homage to the Blurryface album.
Tumblr media
When the map of Dema is tilted so that East is up, the nine circles resemble the cover of blurryface and the “Nico” circle lies over Blurryface’s “Stressed Out” with the lyric “My name is Blurryface”.

Cut My Lip
In this track the Nico theme returns. “though I am brused...know I keep moving” Clancy is hurt but doesn’t give up. The “Drink” might actually be a Chlorine reference. He feels  pain as he cuts himself. and asks himself “is this what I want? Blood is on my tounge”. “I keep on going back, even though it’s me I abuse” Blurryface/Nico is a paer of him, but just as in Chlorine he stays in contact with him, it has a bad outcome, but he comes back over and over again. Then he comes back with an attitude that reminds of someone who doesn’t care anymore and sings “I don’t mind at all” like it has been too long to feel and he has become numb of the fight.
Bandito
This song explains that the Banditos need Dema “Where our blood needs to be”. Though it’s about doubt and fear it’s still about the Banditos. So in this song the themes mix for the forst time. Part of Clancy’s motivation comes from seeing others being resistant “It helps to hear these words bounce off off you”. “I created this world to feel some control, distroy it if I may” to me is the strongest line in the whole album. What Tyler basically does is he returns in the narrative to overpower Nico and tell him that he is the godlike fogure in the whole Trench-Universe. He can control and distroy the setup in which they foght like this, he might even destroy Blurryface just with that.
Pet Cheetah
In this track Tyler connects Vessel again to Trench in the beginning by mentioning his “island” where he finds himself and fears for his life in Migrane. The theme of wild cats also connects those two songs, with lions trying to kill him. But now the Cheetah works for him. He has taimed the wild cat. Also the volture motive from Levitate returns with: “my house is the one with voltures are pursed on the roof”. This time Tyler actually talks about his feelings towards his own music “It could make him afraid of his music, and be scared to death he could lose it”
Legend
In Legend Tyler jumps out of Trench itself like in Smithereens and sings about his grandfather in a melancolic beatuful way, disceibing his childhood with his grandfather and his last moments. It could also be seen as a fellow Bandito who died duaring the rebellion.
Leave The City
“I'm tired of tending to this fire I've used up all I've collected” Tyler/Clancy is tired of the fight, he has used every weapon he had against Nico.“Proof of life in the shadows, dancing on my plans” But Blurryface is still dancing and being alright. “it's almost over“ the album is almost done, the fight is about to end. but not with a bang more like Blurryface’s goner.
“It's only time before they show me why no one ever comes back” Clancy is tinking about leaving Dema to escape Nico “In time, I will leave the city for now, I will stay alive” He leaves to stay alife. he fight has almist cost him his live.
“Last year I needed change of pace” Tyler returns to Tyler at last, Clancy made his last point. He references the one year break he refueses to call Haitus and expains why it was nessesary. “Couldn't take the pace of change moving hastily”. Now he takes the last few lines to state that he feels unserstood and loved “in Trench I'm not alone these faces facing me, they know what I mean”
