#I had no notes on the live action Ariel casting

Note
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like people started to call live action remakes ‘‘soulless’’ and ‘‘cash-grabs’’ and harshly criticize them only after Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel. And it seems like it got worse only after people started attacking Rachel Zegler just for saying that Snow White won’t be dreaming about love. Because I can’t remember people being this invested in live action remakes before 2019 even though Maleficent and Beauty and The Beast were both terrible in terms of plot, characterization and casting (the character of Maleficent was changed completely to the point where she no longer had any reason to be called ‘Maleficent’ and Emma Watson’s Belle was so dull and her dress was terrible yet she wasn’t bullied or harassed). 🤔
Hi nonny!
I hope that it's reassuring to know that you aren't the only one who feels this way. I do as well. I think it's q(White) interesting to note that the criticism surrounding the live action remakes only started gaining speed during the Aladdin remake (not to say that all criticism was in bad faith, there were a number of pretty valid critiques as well from poc). I also think it's q(White) interesting that the critiques of bad cgi and shallow girlbossification do not apply to the early Disney live action remakes (Cinderella, BATB, Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, that hmm, coincidentally starred White women) even tho I would argue that these films were the blueprints. I also think that it's q(White) interesting that (mostly) White women online often forget about the Jungle Book live action remake when they are talking about "good" Disney remakes, although "good" is subjective imo since people say the Cinderella remake was good which I disagree with (Brandy!Cinderella and Paolo!Prince Charming ftw).
But yeah, I do think that the casting of poc, esp woc, in the live action remakes make the films more vulnerable to bad faith criticism. Esp since White audiences can't "relate" to the leads anymore like they did before.

ok quick thoughts, spoilers behind the cut.
Pros:
Halle. HALLE. H a l l e. Her voice, her face, her mannerisms. They took what made Ariel special in the animated movie and built on it and she was the perfect person to pull it off.
Her beauty was distracting.
So glad they finally got a singer for a live action, I couldn’t take another B&B autotuned disaster.
Made me want to get to the nearest rock and play mermaid ngl.
I had my doubts with Jonah but he did a great job with Eric, played the shy, kinda awkward potato prince charming to perfection. Loved that they expanded his backstory and his interest in adventure and the sea. Also A+ for the movie knowing he had a white shirt on while surrounded by water and using every chance it had to drench him.
Eric still being caring and worried about Ariel even under Ursula’s spell? 10/10 no notes.
He came to chew bubblegum and be dreamy and he was all out of bubblegum.
Halle and Jonah’s chemistry was insane, I need them to do ten movies making eyes at each other.
Seriously the movie could have been 2 hours of them interacting in that library and it would have been money well spent.
or just two hours of them being cute smol and tol in a boat idc
TRUE LOVE INDEED
Can’t wait for this movie to be out in D+ so I can reblog all the gifs.
Part of Your World and all reprises were ofc gorgeous. Vanessa’s Trick is haunting and exactly what one would want for a siren song. For the First Time is gorgeous and underrated, felt very Broadway-esque. Eric’s song was corny but in a good way.
The rest of the songs are adequate but are not as good as the original ones.
Gotta said, song aside, the Kiss the Girl scene was more endearing in this version. When she helps him figure out her name?
Melissa was good as Ursula and made the character her own, though I think she was not as scary as she could have been. Better than I expected, though.
The actress that plays Vanessa knew she had 5 minutes to make an impression and used them to the fullest. Delightful.
Cons:
The CGI felt unfinished and so did the color grading/lighting. I edited all the movie images in this post (just played with the saturation and the contrast) and I’m mediocre at best. HIRE TUMBLR EDITORS, DISNEY.
Halle deserved to wear more outfits, I can't believe Disney missed an opportunity to sell more dolls. Would have given her a dress for each day on land and the water dress. Mouse, I thought you liked money.
we could have had it all
Wanted more of her sisters tbh. And less Triton, Javier phoned it in imo. I know Triton and Ariel’s relationship is an important part of the original movie but idk if it was his half assed acting or me wanting more of the sisters, but I wasn’t moved.
Flounder's weird character design was saved by his stellar voice actor and Sebastian grew on me, he was hilarious. Scuttlefina was tolerable but gosh she’s always playing the same character, stop casting her in everything.
Less I say about Scuttlebutt the better. Kids are probably gonna love it, though.
The ending was kinda weird? It felt rushed and the battle with Ursula was disappointing. Which is a surprise because the OTHER stormy scene at night was wonderfully done.
Up to Ursula taking Ariel back to the ocean it felt really cohesive but the second Triton appears to save her it was like they were trying to speed things up and it got... weird.
Didn’t mind Ariel being the one that killed Ursula, after everything she put her through.
Cannot believe the movie robbed us of Jonah screaming “I lost her once, I’m not gonna lose her again!”
Overall it was a well paced (up to the finale), entertaining, charming movie. Despite its faults, the only Disney live action I want to rewatch (outside MAYBE Cinderella).
8/10 Justice for the foam dress.

Bewitched • Part One
Description: Alex Turner x Actress! Reader
Being the current It Girl of Hollywood had it’s perks. New friends. An awesome (yet inconsistent) job. Invites to the coolest parties. And meeting lots of new people. One award ceremony to support your cast mate changes everything when you meet the Arctic Monkeys and it seems fate can’t keep you away from their lead singer. And after one kiss goodnight, you find yourself bewitched.
Word Count: 3,598
A/N: Hello to all those who read this! There is so much waffling on at the beginning to build into the relationship, and then kinda goes from there on. If the writing comes off poor, I am terribly sorry for that but school and sickness hates me apparently. Also there is not a set timeline for this series, as I don’t want to have to focus on where the Monkeys were and when yaddaya because that is just added stress. However, if I mention past relationships of Alex’s, I won’t refer to by name though it should be quite clear who is who based off descriptions. This is obviously inspired by Laufey’s song, Bewitched, being the first in a 4-parter series, and also takes direct lines from the song into this writing! I would love to know what you guys think, so please tell me your thoughts!! Thank you, and hopefully you enjoy xx
It was one of your favourite stories to plan in your mind when you were alone, trapped in the memories of the past. You weren’t confident on what point blurred the lines of friendship and romance, nor did you know why it took so long to completely forget about said lines. All you knew is that it did, and you had never been happier. While everyone knew that being the current It actress in Hollywood had severe cons obviously, they also knew that it definitely had several perks as well. One which came in the form of introductions to other celebrities – may that be through various award ceremonies, parties or red-carpet events. This particular night was for some stupid award ceremony that you were invited to in LA, one which you weren’t even nominated in a category for! However, your publicist told you it would be good for you to mingle with a new crowd and be there to support your peers. At first you were hesitant at putting yourself into the spotlight for no reason (you knew someone would take it out of context and you were simply waiting for the world of fame to turn against you) but when your cast mate for The Little Mermaid, Halle Bailey, said that she was going to be there you realised it would simply be fun if you tried. What’s the worst that could happen?!
And so, you got ready when the night finally arrived; your make-up artist gossiping away about the rumoured guest list and how many new people you could meet while applying light shades of purple to your eyelids. After what felt like hours listening to possibilities, you were finally able to leave. You looked gorgeous; you always did when you worked with your LA team. When you met with Halle and her sister Chloe on the red carpet, the paparazzi were quick to note the matching themes to your two characters from the movie — Halle embracing her mermaid beauty for Ariel while you wore purples for Vanessa. Posing for cameras was fun when you had someone with you, and all the people shouting your name for a brief interaction all screamed as you blew them a kiss before going inside linked to Halle’s side while Chloe held onto your hand. Thankfully the host of the ceremony sat you three together, as if understanding that the cast mates and their plus-ones should belong together. You originally wondered why Jonah or Melissa had not accepted the invitation, and it wasn’t until the tables filled up that you understood why.
You have been invited to a music award ceremony. Not an acting award ceremony, but music instead. It’s not like you mind, Hollywood knew of your admiration for musical talent in the industry and your undying support for it especially since working on the Disney live action musical. Yet, it just surprised you to be invited to such an event since you held no significance to it yourself. Perhaps that was why you were surprised when four men sat on the table aside the trio, all murmuring to themselves so that they weren’t overheard about their original topic. Introductions and some small talk later you discovered you were talking to the British band, Arctic Monkeys. They all seemed sweet, though their harsh English accents hard to understand to your posher one originally. While you tried to engage in their conversation, Halle and Chloe babbled along with the band about the music industry and their guesses for each category, you found it harder than normal. You simply sat there attempting to look like you understood, but it was evident it wasn’t true.
The man sitting aside you who you knew was the lead singer of the band redirected his focus onto you, eyebrows furrowed as he asked, “What about you?”
“What about me?” You responded hesitantly, looking confused. You hadn’t been completely paying attention to the conversation, and it appears that he had caught you.
“What award are you nominated for?” Another member asked, longer hair than the lead and you remembered him as the guitarist. Something Cook, if your brain served you correctly.
You cleared your throat, gracefully adjusting your hair with a manicured hand so it fell behind your shoulders just in case the camera snapped a photo of you, “I’m not nominated for any. Just here to support my girls.”
Halle lent over and clutched your hand, squeezing it tightly as she let out a quiet squeal. You turn back to the band, smiling widely. And that was it, the first moment you ever met Alex Turner. Both of you had assumed that night would be the last because it was rare to meet other celebrities over and over if you weren’t fast friends. Having a conversation at the afterparty whenever you were in close proximity to one another, or him offering you a drag of his cigarette while you waited for the limo back to your flat being the full extent of your relationship. It wasn’t awkward, just simply as it was. Two people in the spotlight who met each other at some award ceremony. Nothing more. Nothing less.
That was until you met him again in London. It had been maybe a month since your guys first meeting, but it seemed like whenever you went you heard the mentions of Arctic Monkeys. Maybe it was their new single on the radio, or your fans asking if you were friends because photos of the pair of you had been released after the award ceremony. Whatever it was, it wasn’t going away anytime soon and so when you met him again at another smallish award ceremony, you couldn’t help but joke about it. Conversation flowed easily and you assumed it was because you were both back in your home country, a sense of comfort allowing you to relax. You spoke to the band most of the award night as you were seated at their table again, and then one thing led to another, and you saw him again a week later. You didn’t overthink the situation with the man, simply viewing it as two people wanting to become friends. He could offer advice about dealing with fame due to how long he has been in the media, and you could ramble on about Hollywood and its issues for hours if needed. You just found it nice to be able to talk to someone who genuinely seemed interested in what you had to say.
Yet it wasn’t like that at all. You don’t even remember mentioning work once aside from talking about cast mates, but you talked of them as if you were all old high school friends. You told him about funny moments with Jonah and Halle, or wardrobe malfunctions when you were at your school parties. He laughed at every story of your past, clearly amused with your life. He told you about his own memories with his band, people who he had been friends with since school. You weren’t too surprised there wasn’t much separation from his work and life – you were pretty sure he had been a big deal since he was a teenager. You somehow ended up Hyde Park, stopping at the closest dairy to grab food for yourself and the wildlife. You watched him grab a loaf of bread, stating it was for the ducks.
“Bread is actually bad for the birds,” you told him, eyeing him carefully. Alex looked surprised at your words to which you responded with a knowing smile, “It’s better to give them frozen peas or natural-like.”
“Is Y/N a duck fiend?” He quizzed, raising an eyebrow to show he was teasing you.
You rolled your eyes, a small smile on your face, “I just care about the wildlife. I don’t want to know I was the reason a bunch of ducks died.”
Alex shrugged his shoulders in agreement, leading you to the freezer section in hopes of a bag of peas. Sure enough there was one which you instantly took. Some fizzy drinks, snacks and ice cream, later you were sitting on a bench at the lake of Hyde Park. He handed you a small amount of peas, before throwing his own into the water to bring the birds to you. You watched peacefully as the ducks scurried to the frozen vegetable, gobbling it with their beaks quickly as if worried their friends would take it. They were basically right because it didn’t take much longer for the pigeons to arrive, landing awfully close to you two. Alex shuffled away from a bird that landed on the back of the bench, a pinch in his eyebrows as he held what looked like a staring contest with it.
“Are you afraid of birds?” You asked, looking at him with interest. Alex turned to look at you with your teasing raised eyebrows, frowning as he shook his head, “Really? Because you’re basically on top of me trying to get away from a little pigeon. Why are you more worried of them than ducks?”
“‘Cause ducks are polite. Pigeons would and do steal your food if they got the chance.” He grumbled. You laughed, shaking your head in disbelief as you returned to feeding the birds. Somehow you ended up standing, arms spread in a T pose with your palms flat and facing upwards with piles of peas in them. It took a few seconds, but pigeons flew their way onto your arms, their talons digging into your skin to keep a grip as they scoffed down the frozen peas originally meant for the ducks. Alex watched; his eyes filled with disgust but lips tugging into a small smile at the sight of you laughing at the feeling of the birds on your arms.
When you returned to your seat aside Alex on the bench, he looked your red arms up and down, “That’s gross. The bacterium from their talons is all in your skin now.”
You smile smugly, reaching into your tote bag to pull out a small bottle of clear gel-like liquid, “Good thing I carry hand sanitizer everywhere I go then.”
You guys left each other just before dinner time, being together for nearly four hours just chatting about random topics. It was fun, you had to admit. That’s why when he asked to go out for dinner one night when you both weren’t too busy with work, you accepted it. One dinner led to another. Then another. Then dinner at his flat. Then dinner at yours. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what was going on, you knew it by the third time you two hung out. There was a feeling in your stomach whenever he laughed at your joke, or how you averted your gaze whenever you stared at one another too long. You felt bad about your feelings, just because of the media. What if it just made everything worse for both of your lives? Paparazzi had been following you two around every time you’re hanging, articles of a relationship blossoming being headlines on the Internet.
It Girl Y/N Y/L/N Finally Belongs to Rockstar Icon, Alex Turner?!
You had a fit when you read that, complaining to Halle about the lack of identity you got if you were in a relationship with him. It felt dehumanizing whenever it happened around your male friends, because you knew it wasn’t their fault yet deep down you couldn’t help but blame them for it. Damn Hollywood! Halle was polite in calming you down, telling you exactly what you needed to hear about the article which somehow only ended with you being coerced to spill your feelings on your friend. She said she predicted it from your first meeting, because according to his band mates Alex was never that chatty with strangers. You told her to shut up, but you were unable to contain your smile. Perhaps he felt the same way. Just maybe.
That’s why when he was walking you home from a cute little dinner, you decided enough was enough. On the walk in the late London light, there was a moment where your hands made contact. Brief, but enough to shock you. A few dinners ago you would not have been this bold, but you knew you had to be brave or else nothing would happen. Giving credit to the moment, you decided to entwine your fingers with him — starting off with your pinkies linked. Alex turned to look at you in surprise, eyes wide and a worried you attempted to pull yourself away from him in fear you made a mistake. However, Alex held onto your hand before squeezing it as if to tell you he wanted this as well. His surprise turned into a smile, and your heart soared at the look of admiration. You tried to think straight, but it was like you were coming apart every second you spent around him. It was evident when you stopped in front of your flat, gazing at one another. After a second you whispered:
“This is me.”
“This is you.” Alex repeated in a murmur almost as if teasing the way you weren’t focused, yet he gazed at you fondly. Your heart hadn’t stopped racing, and in an effort to look cool you let go of his hand to start rummaging through the back pocket of your jeans for your flat keys. He lent against the hallway wall, head cocked to the side, “Y/N… Can I ask you a question?”
You pulled out the keys, twirling it around your index finger as you focused your attention on the singer again, “What’s up?”
He was silent, staring at you. You could see his overthinking by the pinch of his eyebrow, and the faint downward tug of the corners of his lips. That got you concerned. Perhaps you had overthought this. But if that was true, then he would not of held your hand this entire time. Okay… You were definitely the one overthinking this entire situation. Suddenly his face relaxed, as if content with what he was going to ask.
“Can I kiss you?”
The words hit you at full force. He spoke them so casually it was as if this was normal, that asking you to kiss was natural. Alex’s face had softened as he studied your surprise; the raise in your eyebrows and the quirk of your lips. You took your time to think over what to say, before you muttered a gentle, “Of course.”
Alex moved forward with such speed that it almost felt like an attack when his lips caught yours, his hands cupping your cheeks. The world froze around you, but you responded with such enthusiasm that you heard him chuckle as you wrapped your arms around his neck to hold him closer. He tasted faintly of wine, you realised, perhaps the red wine he had at your dinner date. You could taste your shared breath, feel the thud of your combined heartbeat as Alex’s hands moved from your cheeks to rest on either side of your neck, his fingers ran through the hair on the nape of your neck. He realised that you fit into him like a glove, your kiss like the beating of a butterfly's wings, soft until it became addictive. He smelt of wine, spice and lust until it all spurred together in your head to form the dizzy scent of familiarity and comfort.
And you knew then that you were completely bewitched by Alex Turner.
༉‧₊˚✧‧₊˚✩彡.˚✩
The first couple months of the relationship were utter bliss, naturally being the Honeymoon period. You both had decided to keep it private from everyone until you were secure with what was happening — and even then, there was no possibility that you were going to announce it to the world anytime soon. The paparazzi and reporters were simply holding onto rumours, not knowing how truthful they were but that was all they were going to get. Confirming the relationship was like adding a newborn into the situation, neither of you were prepared for that stress this early on. Halle was the first of your friends to learn of the update in your love life, squealing louder than you have ever heard. It made you giddy at the response. Apparently, the band had a less loud reaction to the news, according to Alex, but they were all excited to see you around more. That made you feel good, you had to admit, and it only made you feel better when they all sent you a text with congratulations and threats to Alex if he hurt you.
Then there was Alex himself in those first months. You were quick to learn that his love language was physical touch and gift giving, something which contrasted to your acts of service and quality time. It was the small things that he did for you which started making you believe he was trying a new form of witchcraft. He was simply casting a spell on your heart, whether he knew it or not. Every note he left in the pocket of your jacket, or purse pouch when you weren’t looking, entrapped you to his comfort. You were utterly bewildered with the new feeling soaring through your chest as you read them over, a smile unable to leave your face. The time spent together only grew from random meals together to spending the night at each other’s flats watching your favourite movies in rotation, so it was fair – simply coexisting side by side with one another.
Yet that honeymoon phase died suddenly, not because you grew out of the euphoric feelings but because life grew that messier. You had been worried endlessly about this happening, preparing yourself for the conversation but it didn’t make it any easier. When you went over to his place for the night, he murmured the information that the Arctic Monkeys were starting their tours in Oceania soon. You rolled over in the bed to face him, frowning slightly.
“You could come with me Y/N, if you wanted too of course.” His words were so soft, his lips barely moving. If you weren’t so used to the tired mumbles of nonsense with his accent, you would not have been able to understand a word he said. Instead, it only made you feel sick at the idea of you being apart for the fear of the unknown change.
You sat up in the bed, leaning against the headboard as Alex redirected his heavy eyes to gaze up at you with confusion, “I have to go to LA for a modelling shoot and auditions.”
Alex looked away for a brief moment, it hitting him like a train at what this meant. He reached out and grabbed your hand, entwining your fingers like you had done the first time. Bringing your hand to his lips, he placed delicate kisses on your skin in comfort, “It’s okay. We still have each other even if we are countries apart. Calling exists for a reason, right?”
You knew he was right, but it didn’t stop you from overthinking the entire situation. It would be the first time the pair of you weren’t in the same country since starting this relationship, and you hated how dramatically you reacted to it when he fell asleep with his back to you. You had taken a walk to try and gain back some control you were losing, cursing at the moon as tears rolled down your face. It was like you were consumed by fire, fuming with every emotion but it worked in some way. It was some sort of release. When you returned to his flat, the kitchen light was on. He was sitting at the dining table, eating what looked like a bowl of cereal though he had stopped as you attempted to walk into the flat quietly. A sigh escaped his lips, and it took everything in you to not burst into tears again. The moon (and those who would have unfortunately heard your pleas late at night) had already listened to your fears, you did not feel the need to pressure Alex into the same conversation.
Instead, he got up from the dining table and walked over, wrapping you in his arms. You held him around the waist, your cheek smooshed against his chest as you blinked away stray tears while looking at the bare wall. He placed a gentle kiss to the top of your head. You wanted to stay like this forever. Neither of you having to leave for your ridiculous jobs that had you missing him already. You knew it was a fantasy, but you hoped for nothing more. You stayed in his embrace for a couple of seconds, the pair of you lingering onto the feeling even though you had a week or so to fully say goodbye for the small period of time. You felt him lean down, his lips right against your ears as he whispered:
“Keep me in your heart, m’kay?”
Pulling away from the embrace to look up at him, resting your chin on his chest, you said nothing for a moment. His brown eyes were full of pure admiration, and the same bewildered feeling you got every second you were around him seemed to double in feeling. There was not much for you to say to the singer, so you murmured a ‘of course’ back before he led you back to the bedroom.
And you knew then that not even distance could stop you from being bewitched by Alex Turner.

I'm super excited to write this as a huge Little Mermaid fan and also I'm so hyped for the live action. As noticed with the cast, there are a few changes. Because this takes place in college, I had to change characters based on age for the humanization of Ariel's friends, but other that, the cast stays the same.
Also: If you’re pissed that Ariel is Black, get off my timeline. Also, since Jonah is Jewish, I'm going to make Eric Jewish as well.

I liked your thoughts on diversity issues in the LA TLM. Would be happy to read your analysis of the whole movie.
Thank you for enjoying my thoughts! I think people are really blinded by the casting of Halle to realize that a film set in the Caribbean (TLM 2023) should not look like this:
It's also worthy of noting that the only two people of color in this picture aside from Halle are only featured via their voice- Halle's father, uncle, and love interest are all white- even Ariel's "alter ego" (ie the one who stole her voice and is using it, so should conceivably look enough like her to believably be the original owner of the stolen voice) is also a white British woman...such a missed opportunity. Especially since Disney doesn't have a black Prince (Naveen is South Asian).
Honestly, that specific fandom is probably the worst to interact with if you aren't blindly praising the movie. I think it was a mistake just like every other live-action Disney movie, which are always inferior versions of their original counterparts. I could get more granular but, again, I really don't feel like being countered on why this movie is the best ever and every choice was genius when I have a difference of opinion. I think the added lore was confusing and convoluted and never paid off, the design of the costumes and the worldbuilding was ugly tbh, I think they put WAY too many expectations on Halle and the character of Ariel to the point where it obliterated the very human and vulnerable components of her, they went against all of Howard's original notes of effect vs going broad, and Rob Marshall showed who he was multiple times by saying how he felt the original had a shallow love story that he never connected with, Eric was two dimensional character in the original, and just all the other negative things he said about Ron and John's great work while simultaneously ripping them off (Jodi's said multiple times that Ron kept mentioning to her during the screening that they used a ton of his lines from his original story treatment).
I think the performances were wooden, to put it mildly. And, honestly while a lot of this boils down to bad acting and lack of chemistry (Javier might give the worst performance I've ever seen in a film), it also isn't fair to have actors navigate a heavily CGI'd world compared to the medium of animation that has like four performances for a single character (between the many supervising and sequence animators a single character might have, their voice, the dialogue director, etc). In the original, you can see how Triton and Ariel keep interrupting one another in a masterclass of expressive animation and dimensional voice acting, they're almost one top of each other, and the heave Ariel musters as all the emotions build in her chest. We can feel how frustrated she feels at her inability to be heard and how she's fighting to keep her emotions from getting the best of her. Halle and Javier have a different dynamic, where they never really get that heated or emotionally charged and they're barely interrupting one another; they're super still, and the calm way with which she stares at him before swimming off...I'm sorry, this just isn't it for me lol the film isn't as bad as Lily's Cinderella but nothing ever will be lol
youtube
#ask#anonymous#daily reminder to PLEASE bring back 2d animation#these live action travesties are cheaper yes but at what cost#plus they're only making money off of the backs of the original#nearly all the lines in the intro to ariel sequences are from the animated film and the fanbase is all from the original movie#like i get it's way cheaper to just stick actors in a green room and cgi everything while making them parrot lines from a 30 year old#screenplay but i'm sorry nothing will ever surpass the original artistry#and it's so funny that tlm is a film that shows that probably the most given that it's the one that displayed the importance of going back#to the studio's roots of a 2d

I really shouldn't be so afraid to post this, but this one post has bothered me enough to the point where I just had to rant about it. I won't be surprised if this post results in a lot of followers dumping my ass. There's another controversial rant post I'm gonna make soon, so I guess this is a good enough warm-up.
It does take a lot of mental gymnastics to make "Rules for thee, not for me" sound justifiable.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
Also, I don't think that equity is working out very well right now with the race-bent Snow White.
youtube
Side-note: Snow White's fucking name comes from the in-story explanation: "skin as white as snow". But that's not something we should respect right!
Just imagine the number of hopeful girls who would've been honored to have been chosen for the role of Disney's first-ever princess and would have shown so much more respect for the role and the story than this. I'd hope the social brownie points were worth it, but most people are actually seeing this lady for what she truly is.
Hell, the bigger problem nowadays is how most Disney Princesses are being given the same feminist story beats, being strong independent women who don't need no man and are also total girl bosses. Sure, just gut out the story in the name of "progression". And slowly make the Disney Princesses a "progressive" hive mind.
Also, there's the whole Nani controversy that really shows how skewed the priorities are of everyone who advocates for blackwashing established white characters.
Nani being dark-skinned isn't crucial to the story, though. Her actress is still a native Hawaiian, which is objectively the more important representative aspect of casting in a movie set in Hawaii with Hawaiian culture being heavily featured.
Look, personally I'd advocate for casting people who actually look like the characters they're portraying if these live-action remakes must be a thing.
But clearly the Hollywood execs don't agree. So this casting doesn't bother me. If anything, I find it hilarious - especially after seeing everyone throw a hissy fit over this. It showcases their hypocrisy, as these are the same people who were all "CHANGING ARIEL'S SKIN COLOR DOESN'T MATTER YOU BIGOTS". On top of that, these people are actually wishing harm on this actress, solely over her skin color.
Let me guess, though. It isn't really racism if colored people oppress and threaten and harm white people, right? By this logic, it's just a matter of ~equity~ that fair-skinned folk are subjected to the same prejudice. For fuck's sake.
Nah, let's just normalize the concept that no one can relate to a character unless said character looks just like them. Let's encourage kids to embrace narcissism and refuse to find commonalities in characters that don't physically resemble them in any way.
Because apparently it doesn't matter that I can't see myself and my mother in Tiana, even though her driven, workaholic underdog story resonates with us. But because we're not black, we're not allowed to feel a kinship. It's inconceivable for a little girl to feel that she, for what she is on the inside, can relate to a Disney Princess that she shares no physical traits with.
Maybe I'm just crazy for believing we should focus more on who we are than what we are. Maybe I'm a monster for discouraging indulgence in narcissistic behavior. Am I a bigot for rolling my eyes every time I hear a cry for "MUH REPRESENTATION"?
I like to think I'm not. But society is so heavily fucked in so many ways these days. So much that I'm actually afraid to post this publicly.
But I shouldn't be afraid to speak my mind when I see bullshit being glorified. So I'm gonna give my piece, come what may.
#I don't even think the live action remakes should exist#I am against them as a concept#and there's not a single one I enjoy#they're symptomatic of disney's creative bankruptcy#not a single one of them add anything to the legacy of their counterparts#but I can't make them not happen so#at the very least I just feel the need to point out the hypocrisy#halle bailey to her credit was much more respectful of the movie she was starring in the remake of#even called ariel her 'absolutely' favorite disney princess#but then proceeded to celebrate all these changes to her character#but like#ariel still had fascinations of the human world in the og#she had that long before she met eric#she didn't just give up her legs for a man goddammit#her father fucking traumatized her by destroying her special place#she felt like she couldn't go back home#cuz she's like 16 y'know and teens be dumb like that#that scene in the og of triton blasting all of ariel's things was legit scary for me as a kid#I totally understand ariel being stupid enough to trust ursula because she felt she had no place to go#that's what I hate about these remakes#the actors/actresses totally muddle the message of the source material#anyway sorry if this offends any of you following me#I'm just sick of the hypocrisy and it being glorified#Youtube

Went to see the live action little mermaid at the behest of my family. I wasn't planning on seeing it (I'm not a big fan of the Disney Live action remake trend) but I was pleasantly surprised. Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
-The actor playing prince Eric was fantastic. Probably my favorite part of the movie. Great actor, gorgeous singing voice, brought a lot of life to the character that I genuinely enjoyed. I wish him well in his career!
-On that note: prince Eric's song "uncharted waters" was awesome. Great addition. Also very fond of the "for the first time" song Ariel has on the surface.
- The romance between Ariel and Eric felt a lot more organic. The little things that they added to their characters, a couple of extra scenes, made the connection between them feel real and genuine. They laid a foundation for a realistic relationship with shared passion and interests. Also Jonah and Halle had great chemistry.
-It was genuinely beautiful. I know we've seen the trailers and gifsets and gone "Eugh, that looks tacky" but in the theatre it looked so beautiful and vivid and real.
-The HAIR. The underwater HAIR. How did they animate that so well??? It looked amazing!
-Melissa McCarthy as Ursula: great casting. She WENT for it and it was super fun. Daveed Diggs as Sebastian was also delightful.
Cons:
- Halle's acting dramatically improved once she was "on the surface" and not against a green screen. I totally understand why but it was a little off putting for the first half of the movie.
-They commit the same sin as every movie nowadays: dogshit audio mixing. I mentioned that "uncharted waters" song? Had to go listen to it again after I saw the movie because I couldn't understand half the words. We've gotta hear the crashing waves instead of the dialogue I guess. 🙄
-Genuinely disliked the scuttlebutt rap. It felt so out of place. Just like "well Lin Manuel Miranda is writing and Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs are here, so let's shoehorn a rap into this"
-I'm sure there's a way Flounder could have been cuter. Give me a chubby fish dammit.
- When Ariel was touching all the jellyfish stingers, I viscerally cringed 😂
- (insert every single one of the usual critiques of Disney Live action remakes here)
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I'm still not a fan of the Disney Live action remakes but this is a good addition to the canon.
(also I didn't touch on this because it's been discussed to death but I do think casting a black actor to play Ariel is unambiguously good 👍 Halle did great in the role)

🪐 find the word 🪐
I was tagged byyyyyy @awritingcaitlin
Taken from TGGT! My words were cheer, answer, gape, quick, and sleep.
🔎 CHEER 🔎
I draw swiftly back to the stage as the massive curtains part again, revealing the entire assembled cast, from every dancer and dainty chorus girl to Austedosia and Franio Magorica at centerstage. They bow deeply, the audience cheering louder than ever, throwing flowers like rice at a wedding. Austedosia—Ariel, I remember—stoops to pick up a bouquet of lilies and enormous roses, the silk ribbons tied around the stems trailing down to the floor. She raises a hand to the audience as Franio Magorica blows a kiss, and Travis puts his fingers to his lips and whistles for his boyfriend, clapping with his hands above his head.
🔎 ANSWER 🔎
Percival makes a contemplative noise, deep in his barrel chest. “She thought her voice cracked during the finale.”
Another minute passes before I ask, “Did it?”
Percival looks back at me again. “Does it matter?”
Chastised into silence, I stare at his back. The answer offers itself to me, a clear and evident no, but with a moment’s contemplation, I understand the chorus girl’s upset. What artist does not strive for perfectionism in their work? I notice restitched seams and uneven hems, fits too loose or too tight, a sewing job done by myself that I might wish to reattempt a thousand times. I have witnessed Marian paint over entire canvases larger than herself and put them aside in frustration, whatever vision she had, unable to be depicted as she wished, despite her prowess and the praise of a layman. How different could it be as a performer—a missed step, a shorn, sour note? Even if no one else minds or even notices, the fault lives in the self-awareness of the action itself. A bit of rot and inadequacy.
🔎 GAPE 🔎
“Morgan?”
I whirl around violently, stumbling over my own ankles away from the ring. Ariel stands at the edge of the nearest wing, one hand falling gracefully down to his side. His hair is gathered back behind his shoulders, that rich dark blonde doused like gold held underwater.
His eyes gleam, pink as pearls, as taffeta flowers.
“What are you doing?” Ariel asks, their voice low and inquisitive. They tilt their head to the side, considering me and the portal. I gape at them, hands still and empty at my sides.
🔎 QUICK 🔎
“You never rest, do you?” Christina remarks, sipping a glass of sherry.
I cast her a look, my mouth twitching in light exasperation. She returns it pointedly, resplendent in her day dress. It’s mere hours before the show, but Christina has always been a quick dresser.
“I do what I need to,” I say as Clementine bustles past me, rushing into the costume nook for a pair of slippers. I set Yesuel’s finale ribbons aside just as the crew member named Harry appears from the wings, beelining toward us. He’s dressed in his black stagehand clothes, sweat damp at his temples.
“We’re holding off,” Harry tells us. “Julia’s gone into labor.”
🔎 SLEEP 🔎
“What brought you to the city, Morgan?” he asks, lazy gaze flicking to mine.
“Opportunity,” I reply, for lack of anything more. My head feels rather muddled. “What about you?”
“Oh, I’ve always been here,” Zachary says easily. “I’m a rigger up there.” He points up and behind us at the height of the curtains. “The others joke that I live and sleep on the catwalks, but that’s only half-true. But please—” Zachary’s mouth curls into a smile, his head tilted on the stage floor “—what opportunity did you come seeking here?”

Incomplete list of 2023 TV & Movies - I’ve been adding to this list all year without any revisions passed initial reactions. 2023 really served loads of anticipated adaptations, sequels and original content. It felt like we were truly in a sweet spot of beautiful things put to film.
Starting in chronological order of when I saw each, and yes, i know there’s still ones I missed.
--
January - The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2: 9/10 Chroma Conclave, Kaylie, Matron of Ravens, surprising amount of Pikelan
February - The Last of Us: 9/10 Im new in town so going into this show at face value has been a delightful horror
March - Shadow & Bone Season 2: 7/10 Writing went out the window in episode 7 or would have been higher. Would have been lower if Crows weren’t cast in actual perfection
April - Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves: 10/10 Truly the most fun at the theatres in years.
May - Queen Charlotte: 9/10 i was not prepared to sob uncontrollably for a solid 20 minutes
May - Guardians of the Galaxy 3: N/A I can’t properly assess this movie. I was in an absolute horrible state the day I saw it and given the themes of the film, I sobbed for nearly two hours straight. Did I enjoy it? No. Is it an incredibly written and acted rage-filled magnum opus? Absolutely.
June - The Little Mermaid: 7.5/10 Surprised how delightful it was. Eric & Ariel’s chemistry was excellent, the changes gave the characters more depth. Detracted points for the Scuttlebutt Rap.
June - Across the Spiderverse: 15/10 Perfection and then some.
June - Nimona: 8/10 What an absolutely refreshing delight
July - Dragon Prince Season 5: 7/10 Lost me in the first half but damn that pirate arc came thru
July - Barbie: 10/10 Perfection, no notes. The first absolutely sold out movie theatre experience in years and the entire audience was in pink. S U B L I M E
August - Good Omens 2: 8/10 ... 9/10 so long as we get a season 3. (December update: Okay we did it kids)
August - Oppenheimer: 8/10 Wonderfully executed. RDJ snapping up that Supporting Actor award. Excellent twist and beautiful all around. could’ve shaved about 40 mins off.
August - Heartstopper 2: 7/10 saccharinely sweet in the best way, i think i am just a bit too elder millennial for high school shows now
August - Red White & Royal Blue: 6/10 (upon rewatch with the girlies - 8/10) Are parts of it cringey? Yes. Are parts of it surprisingly lovely? Yes Perfect girls night rom-com.
August - Strange New Worlds: “Those Old Scientists” 13/10 “Subspace Rhapsody” 15/10 Perfection. No Notes.
September - One Piece Live Action: 8/10 I’m new in town with no previous interaction with the anime or manga (beyond osmosis from friends) and it was an utter delight
September - Blue Beetle: 7.5/10 Honestly a fantastic origin superhero movie. If it had come out before Superhero movie fatigue and hadn’t gotten lost in the strikes, this is a solid movie. They got the family dynamic RIGHT.
October - Book Extra: Percy Jackson & The Chalice of the Gods: 10/10 can’t even be mad that it was short cause more books are coming
October - Podcast Extra: Strike Force Five: 9/10 Going into Episode 5 innocently before any lore had been built around has got to be the hardest I’ve laughed at any media for over an hour for a long time. i had a headache afterwards
October - Our Flag Means Death Season 2: 8/10 My perfect show isn’t perfect anymore and that’s okay. MVP of the season was blackbeard’s wig 15/10
November - The Marvels: 6/10 I really really wanted to like this movie. The weight of the MCU brought it down and muddied the screenplay into something mediocre rather than letting it lean into a genre film. I will give it props that the use of Memory healed something in my soul that fundamentally broke during Cats (2019).
November - Killers of the Flower Moon: 9/10 The horror is in the slow, quiet, mundanity that stretches through the entire film. with impeccable performances by Lily Gladstone and Robert de Niro. It is not a comfortable or easy watch and I absolutely understand the Indigenous critique of the film and that there is space for layered discussions.
December - The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes: 9/10 Having not read the book and not revisiting THG series since it’s cultural zeitgeist, it was amazing how easy it was to fall back into the world. This film carries a different kind of dirtier grounded authenticity that hits closer to the world we live in right now than the later stories in the world. The interweaving of music is masterful and no one is doing it like Rachel Zegler right now. A villain doomed by his own hubris, paranoia, and drive for power, this was an incredible origin story
December - The Boy & The Heron: 9/10 When the movie ended i just sat there thinking “that was one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen”. Did I understand all of it? No. And thats okay. Esoteric, whimsical, emotionally driven by grief and a child trying to understand mortality. It had all the Miyazaki hits: funky lil round friends, mouth-watering food, the most unhinged lil grandmas, a beautiful world doomed for destruction, a weird little man, a highly competent badass lady, and the most existential questions about existence.
December - Percy Jackson & The Olympians (so far): 9/10 With only 3 episodes released before the end of the year - it’s incredible. PJO fans are winning. Jason Mantzoukas is perfect casting. The trio have so much chemistry. I would die for Grover, Aryan is killing it.
December - Honourable Mention: Silver Skates (2020): 12/10 Stumbled onto this Russian movie on Netflix and It. Has. Everything. You want Six of Crows and Peaky Blinders on skates? You want Russian-knock-off Tom Holland? It’s serving Anastasia/Titanic/Moulin Rouge. The cinematography is stunning. My heart would not stop racing.

TMNT VS STREET FIGHTER #1-5
June/November 2023
By Paul Allor, Ariel Medel, Sarah Myer, and Ed Dukeshire.
The Turtles and some street fighters get accidentally involved in the latest plan from M. Bison to rule the world.
SCORE: 9
That was totally Tiffany...
Scoring this story was complex, because I initially gave it a 10, and after some consideration I decided that, while it wasn't a masterpiece, the script did what it had to do to tell a fun action story.
First the obvious things to note: This story isn't canon, though it takes a little too much from the IDW continuity.
The Street Fighter characters and the TMNT cast all live in the same universe.
The story has Jennika in it, although she doesn't really play an important part in it (she doesn't even have an "equal" in the other side of the cast).
And Baxter is back to being a criminal (certainly not a mayor).
Having said all that, the story is serviceable to the true gem of these issues: the art.
It may feel a little cartoony to you, but I found it true to both franchises.
The turtles in particular look like a mix of the late Mirage years and the 2003 show. I absolutely loved it!
Some interesting details:
Michelangelo likes Chun-Li and she entertains the idea... sometimes.
Raphael can support psycho-power.
There could definitely be a sequel to this story, and in fact, it would be nice to see the likes of Blanka, Dhalsim, E. Honda and more. You can find them in the alternate covers, but not in the book itself.

Movie Review: The Little Mermaid (2023)
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Ah, Ariel. My favorite Disney princess. She's "my" princess. Ariel is the princess who introduced me to Disney (I was two years old when the movie came out), and I had a Little Mermaid themed bedroom for years. Bedding, curtains, pillows, toys, you name it. When Disney began making live action versions of their classic cartoons, I was hoping they'd follow suit with my favorite princess. And they finally did!
But imagine my disappointment at the casting... it has nothing to do with race. Those of us who grew up with these classic cartoons have certain expectations for the live action remakes. At the top of that list is the appearance of the characters. They should at least somewhat resemble their animated counterparts. The only character that even halfway resembled the source material was... (stops to think) Ursula and Vanessa. Halle's hair wasn't even red! /facepalm
But this post isn't about the casting. It's about the movie as a whole. As is customary with these live action remakes, there are going to be some differences and more than likely some extras. Let's begin with the first scene - text over water that literally says "But a mermaid has no tears, and therefore she suffers so much more."
Well dang, that started out on a depressing note. That note is quickly followed by a scene similar to the cartoon with Eric on a ship and dolphins swimming nearby... except the ship's crew is trying to kill the dolphins, thinking they're mermaids/sirens out to lure sailors to their deaths.
Yeah, we get more of the siren lore/backstory this time around. This is the coral moon, which is when mermaids are known to use their voices to lure men to their dooms. Eric doesn't believe this, and we're then told that he was adopted by the king and queen, so he's not actually the biological prince of the island. They totally did that to explain why the queen is Black and Eric is white.
Anyway, we're then introduced to Triton and his daughters... and no, their names no longer all start with "A." A minor point, yet another example of changing a classic just for the sake of changing it. There was nothing wrong with the girls' names before... why change them? And man, Triton be a playa - the girls are all different races!!! But besides that, I wasn't a fan of their tails/seashells. They honestly looked like dresses with fins. Take away the fins and I wouldn't have thought they were mermaids.
We do get to see the great shipwreck/shark scene, and then we're introduced to Scuttle... who is not only now a female, but also no longer a seagull. No, the self-proclaimed human expert is now some different breed of bird that is capable of diving underwater. The story this time around is that merpeople can't go to the surface at all (well, actually, that was also true in the cartoon), so I guess Disney felt compelled to change Scuttle's breed to make Ariel seem more obedient?
Now cue Ariel's iconic song, then she hears fireworks and swims up to the surface and we see Eric's ship for his birthday... then a storm comes up, the ship crashes, fire breaks out, yada yada yada... you know this part. Ariel saves the human, drags him up onto the beach, he wakes up to her singing but can only make out her silhouette against the sun, and then becomes obsessed with finding her. He uses practically every resource in the kingdom to find a girl he barely got a decent look at... much to the chagrin of the queen, who forbids him from going on any more voyages. And then we get to endure a completely unnecessary musical number by the prince about how he wants this mystery girl to find him and how he's basically being called to the sea.
Yeah, the song was completely pointless and I found it to be bland. But anyway, after that, we get the inevitable father/daughter argument that results in Ariel's grotto getting destroyed, and as she's (dry because of no tears) sobbing, Ursula uses her crystal ball to visit her and lure her to her cave. Yeah, her eel henchmen don't speak in this movie, but their eyes do their spy function.
We're then told that Ursula is Triton's younger sister. So I guess that's why, for 34 years, she's harbored a grudge against the Sea King. Sounds like a case of sibling rivalry/jealousy to me.
So yeah, obviously Ursula's grand plan is to use Ariel as bait to get to Triton in order to obtain the trident. She tells Ariel she'll give her legs and if she and Eric share a kiss before the sun sets in three days, she'll be a human forever... but at the cost of her voice. It's not just her voice anymore. It's her siren's song. Essentially, a mermaid without a voice is an empty shell, in Ursula's eyes. Okay then.
Now, a question that's plagued many for more than three decades - why did Ariel not just write down her story for Eric so he understood what was going on? Well, that part gets addressed now. Ursula sneaks a memory loss thing into her spell, so whenever Ariel is questioned about kissing Eric or anyone mentions it to her, she immediately forgets, so she has no idea that's what she needs to do.
So during Ariel's time on land, we do hear her singing - it's meant to be her subconscious. Because Disney had to warrant casting someone with such a great singing voice (according to them) being mute for a big chunk of the movie. Anyway, Ariel does eventually wander into Eric's "hobby room" in the castle where his maps, telescopes, and items from his adventures are. So really, the two are a lot alike - they both feel trapped in their own homes and desire more. So of course they're bonding.
So eventually we get to the "Kiss the Girl" scene, and it's been stated that some of the lyrics had been changed. Actually, some lyrics in "Poor Unfortunate Souls" were also changed, because apparently after 34 years, some of those lyrics don't hold up well.
So eventually Eric leans in for a kiss, but because of the memory loss thing, Ariel pulls away. I mean, she was leaning in at first, but then she's like
Yeah, the lyrics were changed because there was supposedly an implication that Eric was forcing himself on Ariel in the cartoon. Uh..... Ariel was 100% on board for that kiss, and it was the whole POINT! That's what was needed to break the spell and allow her to stay on land! He was hardly forcing himself on her!!!
This time around, if anyone was being forceful, it was Sebastian with all his coaxing Eric to kiss Ariel. Geez!
So then Vanessa makes her debut, and we then have to sit through an annoyingly pointless tune of Scuttle going on about the "scuttlebutt" of how Eric is going to propose... That was super annoying and absolutely unnecessary. Just say it!!!
Enter the engagement announcement party (no, not a wedding, just an announcement of one) at the castle (not on a ship), and of course Ariel's tail pops out, Ursula turns back into an octopus, and the queen is all OMG the sea creatures are gonna come back and kill us!!!
This time, instead of Eric getting on one of the ships brought up by Ursula, Ariel does it and uses the ship's wheel to steer the giant harpoon-like thing at the bow into Ursula. Eric wakes up and Ariel is gone, and the queen is like, "Our worlds weren't meant to be together." Or something like that. Talk about a mood killer.
But then Triton makes Ariel human (of course), and they get married, and set off for those "wild, unchartered waters." And now all the merpeople can come to the surface, so we get to see them and the humans being all harmonious.
And... end. Yeah, no rainbow in the sky created by Triton. What a missed opportunity that was.
So yeah, I didn't see this movie in theaters out of principle, and I didn't buy the DVD/Blu-Ray. I just watched it on Disney+. Some things were good, as I anticipated they would be, but honestly, they could have done so much better. Eric didn't need a song, and neither did Scuttle... and Ariel literally wore the same dress the entire time she was human. You can't tell me that huge palace didn't have more dresses she could wear. And no, we don't see her dinner dress (the pink one)... in fact, that dinner scene never happens. The "using the fork as a comb" thing happens when Eric is showing Ariel the market, when Jodie Benson (the original voice of Ariel) gives her something to eat with the fork.
I'm still not completely on board with all the race/gender changes. By doing this, it just tells Disney that it's okay to do that for every single remake. Snow White is going to be a train wreck... they can't even get the story right for the TITLE. These live action remakes are getting worse, honestly. Changing just for the sake of changing is a stupid reason to do so. There's a reason the classics are classics.
I'm not saying this movie was horrible. But I am saying it could have been better. Could have been worse, too, though, so... kind of a double-edged sword here. Out of principle I don't want to give the movie a high rating because of all the changes, most notably the casting of "my" princess... again, not because it's a race thing, but because it's a principle thing. But regardless, I'll go ahead and give it 7/10. My biggest gripes are the added songs that were more annoying than anything.

Ariel..?
I don't know. When The Little Mermaid (2023) was in theaters, "I didn't know" and it was enough to have me not go spend money on it. Now that it's on Disney+, we'll see.
Update: So I've seen it. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. It was fine, which just means it was O.K. it had the heart and the soul of the original. Bailey's singing fit the part well, even if some of the beats were different than the original, which is to be expected.
I think the song "Under the Sea" hits wrong. In the original film, Sebastian seems to be putting on a display, utilizing the other sea creatures. And when you get a look at Ariel observing this, you sense she's not buying it. In this new version, for the call and answer parts, Ariel answers, rather than the chorus of fish and critters. Certainly this is to give the actress more singing screen time. But she gets into it, seeming to acknowledge that it's pretty good down there. Maybe that makes Sebastian's surprise when she's disappeared more palpable.
Prince Eric is actually fleshed out as a character, with wants and motivations. They do this even to the point of giving him an "I want" song. While character development is welcome, it seems to tribute mostly to lengthening this movie.
I think the standout role is Melissa McCarthy playing ursula. However, well she does an awesome job playing the part, that's exactly it - she's playing the part. She never really seems to get into it, and doesn't really make the part her own.
My biggest question though is exactly where the hell is this island? The inhabitants, while ethnically diverse to satisfy the woke crowd, are also ethnically rather weird. I get notes of Creole and Jamaican influence with an ethnically diverse population that would suggest that this island is in the modern day Caribbean somewhere. But what Caribbean island has a castle on it? A castle on an island might seem more in place for the Mediterranean basin or Southern European Atlantic region, but I don't buy that it's in the Caribbean. Woke controversy aside, this definitely is a fantasy.
I think overall that this film suffers from the same problem that many of the other live action remakes of animated Disney films suffers. It feels more like a commercial effort than an attempt to make good art. While the cast is good, the singing proficient, and the visuals are technically excellent, I'm not totally sold, and I'm glad I didn't spend money on this. I just think they're back to the same formula of using familiar IP to cater to a younger crowd. It's a decent film that's it, it's just decent it's not spectacular. It leaves me, to quote what the lead character sings, "I want more'.

Why’s Little Mermaid remake review
I know people love to hate the Disney live action remakes for one reason or another but I'm still willing to give them a chance if there's any probability that it'll be a quality experience. The new Little Mermaid follows suit with all of the remakes by being nowhere near as good as the original, but I think falls in the upper tier of them, as it has enough strengths to make it worthwhile and not all a soulless cash grab. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's definitely a cash grab that no one really asked for, but there's also effort put into it that I didn't see in remakes like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Ultimately it's a mixed bag but with a decently solid end product.
I should start with the performances, as that's the category that feels the most mixed to me. Halle Bailey gives a rather poor acting performance as Ariel in my opinion- she emotes enough in the first half but her lines feel half-hearted, or like she's focusing too much on sounding like Jodi Benson's voice without having a believable delivery. That said, she's clearly cast for her singing ability because her performance of Part of Your World is so amazing that it gave me chills on multiple occasions. I don't exaggerate when I say she is the closest you'll ever hear to Jodi Benson's performance from a musical standpoint. Javier Bardem was clearly cast for Triton because of his booming voice, however he phones in all of his lines and is totally lifeless. Bardem is a good actor, so I blame the director here. Melissa McCarthy as Ursula is fantastic casting and she's very much into the role, but she comes off as cheesy sometimes in her delivery, which, again, I have to blame the director for. Jonah Hauer-King as Eric is probably the best actor of all of them, as he was convincing throughout it, and gave life to a character that historically was forgotten as a side character.
As a musical, it succeeds pretty well, with some caveats. As I mentioned, Part of Your World is goddamn amazing and absolutely needs to be heard, but the other renditions aren't bad either. Daveed Diggs does pretty well as a singer for Sebastian's songs, and Poor Unfortunate Souls sounds pretty good, although I noticed McCarthy's lips didn't line up well for the lip-sync. The chef song was removed, but three new songs by Lin Manuel Miranda replace it. Eric gets a song that sounds pretty good, but is definitely shoehorned in, as nothing important to the plot happens during the song, and nothing would be lost with its removal. Ariel gets a second song, which is very welcome, as such a beautiful singing voice deserves more than just one iconic song- an issue I had with the original film. This one is solid as well, and is sung over Ariel's first encounter with humans on land, ending with a great moment that I won't spoil, but I'll say it invokes some positive emotions. The last one is Scuttle's song, sung by Awkwafina, and is pretty lousy, in my opinion, not just because her rapping voice sounds grating, especially in context, but it's the final song of the movie, meaning they pulled a "Frozen" by not having any showstoppers to follow the silly comic relief song, ending the film on an awkward note. The visuals for the songs range from wild, vibrant, and dynamic in Under the Sea, (which I think is an improvement from the original) to dark, dull, and lifeless in Poor Unfortunate Souls. The CGI is subpar, thanks to Disney's poor treatment of their visual effects department, but the cinematography often makes up for it with some great angles and camera movement, so, again, everything feels like a mixed bag.
I think my biggest complaint on the movie is a change they made to the second act, where they add an effect to Ariel's curse that makes her forget that she needs to receive a kiss from Eric. This results in a very underwhelming romance that lacks all of the charm of the original. Instead of smiling brightly and acting energetic around Eric, Ariel now seems mentally distant and simply absorbing knowledge of the surface world with slightly amused half-smiles. There's so much energy missing from this portrayal that even Sherri Stoner, the 1989 model for Ariel, exuded. It causes the romance to feel less genuine and more forced. Kiss the Girl comes off as more focused on convincing Eric to go for it simply because Ariel is too lethargic to try it herself, rather than getting through the nervousness. It's a little uncomfortable when you have the original for reference. That said, I do appreciate a few changes they made to the script, like leaving out Ariel complaining that, at 16, she's mature enough to get married, and having her learn from her mistake and become a hero later on, as those were two complaints many people had about the original.
Considering how many people are anti-Disney lately, I don't recommend this to everyone. While it can't compare to the animated version, it does just enough right to be serviceable and an enjoyable outing, but specifically for people who are huge Disney fans (not unlike myself) or who don't mind the money grubbing remakes coming out of their studio. I think there are enough positives here to make up for the low points, but I won't defend it as much as I do with the Aladdin remake, which I found to be a great film experience overall.

Gentle Night | Suga, Tsukishima
Pairings: Suga X Reader (female), and Tsukishima X Reader (female)
Genre: sweet, soft comfort fluff for y/n
Author’s Note: a nice lil night for Y/N after an emotional day tehe
Warnings: Pregnant! reader, all post time skip
Gentle Night | Daichi, Iwaizumi // Gentle Night | Suna, Sakusa
Suga:
The embers of the remaining log crackled and echoed up the chimney of the fireplace, casting an earthy warmth into the living room, right into the makeshift fort you and Koshi set up for the night
The two of you gathered all the layers of blankets you two could, all the cushions, creating a comfier bed than your shared one upstairs
You laid on his arm stretched out for you, your back to his chest, his body curled against yours like he was your soulmate and you were meant for him and no one else
only for him
the two of you wore matching baby blue pajamas
his little crow slippers occasionally rubbing up against your legs beneath the covers as the two of you sleepily watched the little mermaid
you turned once or twice but settled, remembering your doctor’s words to avoid moving too much when sleeping
turning towards Koshi’s body, nuzzling your face into his chest as the movie went on when you were more on the sleepier side
he let you doze off every now and then but whenever you did
stars glimmered in his eyes as he brushed his hand over your forehead and hair as he leaned close, pressing his lips slowly to your skin repeatedly
peppering your face with secret kisses
Not only had he been rubbing his legs against yours often, he eased down when you slept but what he didn’t cease was the constant rubbing of your belly
his future baby boy or girl was on their way
As the fire crackled, he looked to you like Prince Eric seeing Ariel come down to dinner with her pink gown
As lucky as Eric or any prince seemed in any princess movie where they find the love of their life or best friend
Koshi knew he had won
no prince or princess could be as lucky as he was to have you
you were the most precious queen in his life and he was so fortunate to have you in his life
“Sha la la la la la don’t be scared, you got the mood prepared,” he hummed along as he slowly brought his hand to your face, absooutely smitten with you
“go on and kiss the girl,” he mouthed along as he traed his thumb over your lips gently before pressing his lips to yours as the movie played on in the background
he hugged you close, butterflies absolutely tickling him from the inside out
you were all his
his little mermaid
his cinderella
his princess
and you were carrying close his little prince or princess in your belly
Tsukishima:
Tsukishima Sat comfortable reclined back on the couch, his legs crossed as he listened to music playing quietly on his phone, letting it sound all throughout the brightly lit living room
the summer sun boiled hard down outside while the two of you were inside enjoying the air conditioning cooly
The two of you had been like this all day ever since breakfast and then lunch
and now, resting before it was time for sunset, going on a daily stroll to get you outside and to move about
Your belly swell before his eyes and had been for the last six-ish months and just staring at you, at your belly that held your guys’ future child
it was a thought tsukishima never thought he would himself in - to be married, to have a wife and now a kid
but it all changed when he met you and you stayed in his life, glimmering as bright as the stars in the night sky and as bright as the sun in the sky
he looked down to you, laying so still on your side, a pillow in between your thighs since it made it more comfy for you and other pregnant women apparently - though he wouldn’t know of course
you repositioned yourself against him, making him freeze as to not move and wake you until he realized you were hugging your arms tighter
and then he saw the goosebumps rise over your arms
he carefully leaned to his side toward you, pulling the blanket that was right out of reach at his fingertips on the end of the couch until he ever so carefully reached, using his lanky length
and he succeeded
he pulled the article toward him, before throwing it up in the air, letting it spread open before it gently floated down to you with his guidance
he draped it over your body as you almost inaudibly hummed, your hand finding and grasping onto the edge of it while nuzzling even closer to him
you faced the back of the couch as you laid on him
it wasn’t until now that he did this that he was grateful you were actually facing him
he rest his hand on your shoulder, wide awake now as he circled his fingers on your shoulder before his hand roamed carefully up the back of your neck, finding your hair
he played with your shoulder and hair for a bit before you reached up, your eyes cracked open
“sorry...” he ceased his actions, his other hand resting on his vacant thigh
“mm, don’t stop,” you breathed as you took his other hand, using it as a pillow as you grasped onto the bottom edge of his shirt
“hm, I won’t,” his voice barely audible but with the silence in the living room, you could hear him clearly
you were out like a light, continuing to hold on to tsuki as he held you close, keeping you as close as always
and he would always keep the two of you close from now on to the end

once upon a time for the ask game! not sure if you’re deep in the fandom still but i remember seeing you post about it so i’d love to hear more of your thoughts
oh man ouat at its height was my LIFE, it was my main fandom along with tvd for years lmao, so LET'S SEE HERE
blorbo (favorite): EMMA FUCKING SWAN, HANDS DOWN. I love her so much, she's everything to me, which is a huge part of why I still haven't bothered with s7--no Emma, no point. She was dealt such a raw fucking hand by the series, she kept being torn down and kicked while she was low, especially in the later seasons, but at the end of the day she had Killian and she had Henry, and her parents when they weren't too busy coddling Regina to remember their actual daughter, and she got her happily ever after which is the really important bit. The rest is easily fixed in fanfiction.
scrunkly (my baby): Henry, I think. I don't normally care much for child characters, and he did frustrate me a little when he seemed to forget the fact that Regina abused him for the first ten years of his life so badly that he readily convinced she was the Evil Queen and fled to Boston to find his bio mom to bring her back to KILL SAID EVIL QUEEN, but he was also young and Regina kept abusing him and I prefer to believe that a lot of his later attachment to her was more a defense mechanism than anything else. And anyway at the end of the day I love him, he's baby. (And it was so funny to watch him hit puberty between seasons with the show scrambling to come up with reasons for timeskips to catch up.) Honorable mention goes to Ruby, who I love so very much and I'm still mad the wrote her off like they did. I maintain that she and Belle should've been ouat's central queer romance and the real Beauty and the Beast storyline but ABC were cowards.
scrimblo bimblo (underrated fave): Elsa, I think. The Frozen arc tends to get a bum rap in fandom, but I actually quite liked it and I think it was the last half-season arc that was generally consistent all the way through and stuck the landing (the less said about s5 and s6 the better, and 4b still makes me incandescent with rage), and I loved Elsa and her dynamic with both Anna and Emma so much. She's the only character I really shipped Emma with aside from Killian (and Graham, but he'd died long since), and she was so perfectly cast I'm still in awe.
glup shitto (obscure fave): Ariel. She only showed up in a couple episodes, but I thought Joanna Garcia was wonderful in the role and I always loved seeing her show up on my screen. Honorable mentions go to Jasmine and Aladdin, who I remember nothing about in terms of their ouat storylines but I do remember Karen David and Deniz Akdeniz were literal perfection and their chemistry was FANTASTIC and if I could I would sell my soul to have a live action Aladdin remake starring the two of them.
poor little meow meow (problematic fave): I'm sure Killian still counts (as problematic/controversial, not particularly unpopular, but still), given the narrative the SQ fandom tried pushing about him. And pre-redemption he was absolutely my problematic fave, he was the epitome of if evil bad, why sexy??? and there are a few people he absolutely SHOULD have killed and it would've been sexy af of him (mostly rumple ngl). And anyway yeah Killian Jones, 100%, I love him so much and I'd have happily been pre-redemption Killian's pirate queen.
horse plinko (punching bag): Probably Neal. I don't actively hate him as much as I used to, but I'm reminded of my loathing every time I rewatch s2 and s3 and I still fucking hate that we were FREE OF RUMPLESTILTSKIN (and he actually went out on a decently high note! making one single, selfless choice, and saving storybrooke, and gods damn it all he should have stayed dead smfh), and Neal had to go and be a fucking idiot trying to get back the father he'd spent 300 years hating for abandoning him akldjghlkdsjfhg (granted, it was some truly, ridiculously awful writing, but I already didn't like Neal so it's not much of a stretch to just blame him for committing suicide by stupidity). So yeah I'd love to kick him around just for cathartic funsies.
eeby deeby (superhell bound): Regina Mills and Rumplestiltskin. (I refuse to pick just one.) I hate them both SO MUCH and their 'redemptions' were utter shit and the show would've been much better if Rumple stayed dead after 3a and Emma kept getting to punch Regina in the face for attempting to use her as an emotional punching bag all through the later seasons. But since that didn't happen, Regina can just go right to superhell with Rumple's scaly ass.

The past few weeks the cast had been working hard to make something they could be proud of, and they were proud of what they had accomplished so far as a group, but problems arise in individuals. Most of the actors were in their last year of high school and had other problems and worries this late in the school year. Lunch was one of the only times they could relax without having to do school work or production work. It was a time of fun relaxation, laughs and for some, it was a time to make new relationships or for some to evolve.
Denki and Shinso had been working together during rehearsal almost every time the actors were given time to work on individual character work. Even though Denki was who Shinso worked with the most, Denki was always disappointed when Shinso worked with another actor. Now Shinso was a part of the theater kid group, even during lunch. Currently, most of the students in the production were having lunch together and it was only the second week that Shinso was a part of this lunch group and he had taken notice of something. For one he noticed the closeness of Tokoyami the actor playing Scully and Aoyama the french boy who played the french chef in the show, he assumed that they were together or were getting to that type of relationship. He also noticed that mina was Ursala, not that she was naturally Ursula but she constantly in character, basically method acting, and it scared most of the none theater people. What he took notice of most was how they treated Denki, for the most part, it was harmless jokes that could be taken the wrong way. What he was really unsure of was how Jiro treated him, her jokes were more insults than the others, half the time he couldn’t tell if she was even trying to joke about it. Shinsou could tell that Denki was affected by Jiro’s words, and he was too. Mostly because her insults were always about other’s feelings toward Denki. Things like
“Your so annoying, it makes people hate you.”
“It’s hard being around you when you are so stupid.”
"I still don’t how you landed the prince role when you the furthest thing from a prince .”
“It’s so hard to act like I’m in love with prince eric when you’re the one playing him.”
“I’m not surprised that you’ve never been in a relationship, I pray for your future partner.”
That last few ones were the ones that hurt Shinso because he was a part of denkis prince Eric’s portrayal. The last one also struck a chord with him because he liked Denkieven before they become friends, he was almost hopelessly in love with Denkinow that they got to spend time together. Even though Jiro’s comments hurt both Denkiand Shinsou, neither of them was able to stand up to her. All Shinsou could do was find a way to comfort Denki when they were alone.
Later in the day after school now at rehearsal, once again Shinso was hoping from person to person helping them during their individual work. Denki was running over his lines, memorizing, blocking, and figuring out how to say each word, the way prince eric would. Shinso had taught him many acting tips in the past few weeks, it made Denki feel a little dumb because he had done acting for fun since he was little and he was only learning such things in his last year of high school. Denki sat and thought of tactics, a term, and a method that Shinso taught him. Basically, each line has at least one tactic, a tactic is an action verb that is aimed at the other characters in the show. For example, he used ‘to swoon Ariel’ quite a bit, swoon being the tactic and Ariel is who it is for. All the work he was doing made him think of Shinsou, and how Shinsou wasn’t working with him right now, it made him feel alone and jealous that he didn’t have the fluffy-haired boy’s attention. The director called for clean up which indicated the end of rehearsal, and Denki still hadn’t worked with Shinsou today, it disappointed him more than it should have.
Denki
I pack up my bag and script but stay seated in the chair I was in. I know that it’s time to go but I wasn’t ready to leave, not mentally at least. I watched as my ...our stage manager talked to our director, I have no clue what their conversations about but it’s not unusual for them to talk after rehearsal. I began to space out, still staring in their direction, I’m broken from this state when I notice both men looking at me, I panic a little because when two people are talking and looking at you it means that they’re talking about you, and I can only assume that their talking shit if it’s me they’re looking at. In my slightly panicked state, I didn’t realize that Yamada has left and that Shinso has started to approach me. I try to calm myself and get ready to stand up but before I could stand up I hear the amazing smooth voice of Shinso.
“Stay seated.”
Even though his tone wasn’t demanding or scary, I summited and was scared. I watched as he sets down something and pulls out another foldable chair, across from me and my chair. I couldn’t think of what to say or question but luckily I didn’t have to because he knew the answers to the questions I hadn’t even thought of yet
“I asked Yamada if I could work with you a little more today here because we didn’t get to.”
I nodded my head and took note of how awkward he knew that we were alone together. I guess he thinks I’m stupid because he went into more detail.
“He said yes, just no funny business and to lock up and that return the keys when I get home.”
He was less awkward now, he even rolled his eyes at the no funny business part. I assume that the shiny thing he put down was the keys to the auditorium. The most confusing part was the ‘return the keys when I get home’.
"Wait you live with Yamada?”
I yelled that a little loud and was a little too excited for that, it probably made him uncomfortable to be around a loud person like me.
"Yeah, he not my dad or anything. At least not biologically, he’s my foster parent, has been for the past 3 years but he hasn’t asked if I wanted to be adopted yet so I think he waiting till I turn 18 so he doesn’t have to deal with me.”
He laughs but I don’t think it’s very funny, because I don’t think it true, and Yamada isn’t like that. I hold my breath though, no one wants to hear my thoughts anyway, so I switch the subject.
"I was working on tactics today, hear let me show you!”
We worked for the next 30 minutes on different parts of the script, until we ended up on the wedding scene, the same scene that prince eric and ariel kiss. The atmosphere became weird between us, we weren’t acting or anything, just reading the lines and talking through different ideas. But the topic of kissing filled the air with awkwardness. But we had to continue with analyzing and discovering my character.
"I’ve been having trouble portraying Eric at this moment. It’s hard to show the love he feels for Ariel.”
I admitted to Shinso that love was hard to portray which is pretty embarrassing.
"I would try and draw out, or remember an experience for this scene, like your first kiss, or date, something romantic.”
Shinso suggested, I tried to rack my brain to find a replay that doesn’t include Shinso learning that I haven’t had my first kiss yet. But that’s what enders up coming out.
"I haven’t...”
"You haven’t ...what? Kissed someone? gone on date?”
Shinso sounds very shocked by this discovery. I just nodded my head not wanting to face him.
"But you’ve rehearsed this scene before, so you’ve kissed Jiro?”
I suddenly realize that every time Jiro and I have rehearsed that scene, Shinso isn’t in his chair, and when Yamada announced we would be doing stage kisses instead, Shinso hadn’t joined the club yet. Meaning that Shinso didn’t know about the stage kisses.
“No, she was uncomfortable with that so we opted for stage kisses, so I’ve never had a first kiss, not a romantic one or a fake one from Jiro.”
“Whats a stage kiss?”
I’m shocked, my stage manager doesn’t know what a stage kiss is. He knows all these other terms for acting but he doesn’t know about a basic stage kiss. Well, now I get to be the smart one.
"Well, it’s so that actors don’t have to kiss but it tricks the audience. Basically one of the actors grabs the other’s face and kisses their thumbs.”
I was feeling pretty smug about knowing something Shinsou didn’t. Until he spoke again.
“I don’t understand. Maybe I’ll understand better if you showed me.”
I cough out a little bit in shock, yeah sure it’s a stage kiss and I wouldn’t actually be kissing him, but the idea makes me nervous. It’s not like I don’t want to kiss him, stage kiss him, it’s the opposite, I’ve grown fond of him and might even say I have a crush on him. I know that I don’t have a shot with him or anyone for that matter but I can’t help but wish for more than a stage kiss. But if a stage kiss is the closest I'll get to being with Shinso I'll take it.
Without saying anything I get up from my chair and move towards Shinso, I place my hands on his face and then I lift my thumbs positioning them in front of his lips. they flout above his lips as I pause for a second, thinking about touching his lips with my thumbs, it’s still intimate in my mind, but his puzzled look makes me place my thumbs down on his lips. There soft, I would have expected chapped lips but this is a pleasant surprise. I close my eyes and kiss my own thumbs, I keep my lips there longer than I do when I stage kiss Jiro, but Shinso won’t know that. I pull away and open my eyes, to see Shinso smiling and almost laughing, then he begins to laugh. I began to feel insignificant and stupid again. I know I don’t have a shot with some as amazing as Shinso but that doesn’t mean I didn’t still hope that the stage kiss would lead to something more, and real.
“Sorry for laughing. You really haven’t had your first kiss.”
It’s that obvious to him, sure I told him but how can he tell how inexperienced I am from just a stage kiss.
“What’s that suppose to mean?”
I asked in a more rude tone than I meant to.
"Well you closed your eyes, like the whole time, and you were there longer than needed.”
“You’re supposed to close your eyes, right. That’s what they do in movies and like it’s bad if you open your eyes, or that’s what I’ve heard.”
Shinso nods at my statement but it seems to be in a teasing way.
“Wel that right but you make it seem like life or death, your eyes aren’t just closed there squeezed shut, and with simple kisses that the .. um … the stage kiss is replicating, it’s short. Cause in real life it would be a little awkward to put your lips against someone else’s without at least some lip movement.”
I find his corrections on my stage kiss annoying, and I don’t try to hide it in my voice.
"Oh, so your some sort of kissing expert?”
“I wouldn’t call myself that, but I’m more experienced than you.”
I become more annoyed because his voice changed and he became more smug
"Well, it’s not my fault I haven’t had my first kiss!”
I yell at him.
“Neither is it mine.”
“Yes, it is because anyone who hasn’t tried to kiss me is at fault!”
I blurt out without think of consequences, and when I look at Shinso and his smug, flirtatious face I know that there’s going to be consequences.
“So if I kiss you then I can be free from being blamed?”
I go wide-eyed, I can’t tell if he’s being serious. And if he is I don’t know if I want my first kiss to be under these circumstances. Oh, who am I kidding I was ready to have my first kiss be with Jiro for a play. I try to ask him how serious he is but it stumbles out in pieces.
“How ….uu. I ho-how seri-serious is your.. Uhh ...your ..proposal?”
I sound like a mess. I watch as Shinso stands up from his chair moving closer to me. His left hand rests on my cheek. Leans in and whispers...
“As serious as you want it to be.”
We stand and stay in this position until Shinsou whispers more...
“I’m asking if I can kiss you.”
“Yes!”
The yes that falls out of my mouth is too fast and too quiet but Shinsou heard it and leaned in. I don’t like to admit that I’m wrong but I was and Shinso is right. Without movement this is awkward. But then he snickers with his lips still on mine, that’s when I realize he wasn’t moving on purpose to prove his point. He begins to move, and I half expect it to become a french kiss but it doesn’t. I follow his lips movement hoping that I’m doing it correctly.
We eventually pull away, both our faces tinted pink with blush. I’m not used to silence so I try to fill it.
"Wow, where did all that confidence come from?”
Shinso was often not as flirty as he has been for the past 10 minutes.
“Don’t know, it happens more than you’d expect.”
His hand does that thing that I’ve read in teen romance stories, where it goes behind their neck. I can see the movement of hair and fingers and I assume that it’s some sort of nervous tick to play with his hair, it cute.
“So I think we did enough work for one day, so I guess it’s time to go home.”
I nodded and turn back to grab my stuff, I turn around and Shinsou is already ready to go, waiting for me, but he doesn’t seem to be annoyed like most people are when I take longer to get ready. He locks up the room and we walk to the exit together. When we get outside I turn to start walking home, Shinsou turns the other way but before I get too far he turns back and yells at me.
“Do you need a ride? People shouldn’t walk this late at night, I don’t mind giving you a ride. “
I turn around and yell back...
"I don’t want to get you in trouble for being home late.”
“I’d probably get more in trouble if I let you walked, that’s how my dads are, so come on.”
He waves me over and I jog over to him.
During the ride we don’t talk much, letting the radio fill the car, scaring off the awkward silence. I told him my address and he uses a GPS for direction instead of asking me every 2 minutes when to turn. So I was able to just watch him, and I never realized how attractive people can be while driving till now. Especially the one hand on the wheel, his right hand still on the shift even though it an automatic, his left hand on the wheel. The same hand that was on my cheek less than 20 minutes ago. The realization brings color back to my face, I begin to think about the kiss again. My thinking almost always leads to questions that make me insecure, and like always, I begin to question. Along with my brain answering with the most likely answer
Did I do it right? No.
Did he like it? No.
Does he regret it? Of course.
Was it just a moment thing? Yes.
Or does it have a deeper meaning? No.
Will it happen again? Never, don’t even get your hopes up.
Will we become more than friends? Idiot.
Did he hate it? How else is someone supposed to feel after kissing you?
Is Jiro right? Has she ever been wrong, no, and that hasn’t changed.
Will he stop being my friend? Probably and if not, it’s pity.
Why did he do it? To teach you, cause your a lonely idiot.
Does he like me? Not even a question, of course not, look at him, then yourself. He would never like you.
“Denki is this it?”
I’m broken from the negative thoughts. Shinso has already parked, I look out the window, and sure enough, it is my house.
“Yeah."
I step out and grab my stuff, I close the door, the window rolls down.
"Have a good day Denki.”
"Yeah, you to Shinso.”
I begin to walk away but he yells out a little more...
"Call me Hitoshi. Also, It wasn’t a moment thing, and I want to see where this leads.”
My back was turned the whole time he said talked, I stand there frozen in disbelief. It’s only when I hear his car drive away that I breathe again, my first breath also being a whisper of his name.
