Feyd would not make a good Emperor. He has potential sure, and has proved adept at surviving his Uncle but survival isn't living. Even if we're going off of his canon inner monologue he's already showing some serious albeit justified paranoia. While he'd be able to ride the initial wave of popularity brought on by killing the 'upstart Duke' he'd more than likely slip into the tactics he learned from his uncle if faced with any serious emotional/political set backs. (The only way I see him not doing is if he somehow managed to establish an extremely strong support system. Which uh . . . seems unlikely.) His backstory of having a popular father and later being raised by an abusive Uncle who was also responsible for the death of said father is identical to that of the Roman Emperor, Caligula. Caligula has become a byword for insane ruler but it's important to remember Caligula was EXTREMELY popular during his early reign and only slipped into the mad figure we know today after a series of health, personal and political crises. This is also why in AU situations I'm much more interested in scenarios where he's forced to survive under Paul's rule. To be frank (ha!) I feel like when removed from any position of power or the chance of being in such a position he has a much better chance of both becoming better and learning to be at peace within himself.
