SRK convinces him to let him teach music citing holistic development. The movie deals with the issue of losing a spouse at the age of 19, widow hood, remarriage, interaction between sexes in a time where it was a lot more taboo. He guides 3 of his students on their love issues the principal obviously does not like his carefree approach. The students are advised to keep to their studies or they could risk the same fate as that one guy who was expelled and was denied admittance in every other institute as a result. It was basically the end to his career and no one knew what happened to him. Later on in the movie it is revealed that the violin teacher was the legend who had been expelled from the institution because the Principal had found out that SRK' s character had been dating the Principals daughter. Keep in mind that this movie was released in India in late 90's early 2000's when dating was a major no no in most circles.) When prompted to choose between her father and love, the daughter had opted to end her life instead.

It's a pretty good watch if you've got some time/ like song +dance routines
