so glad you also don't understand that coffee commercial because I have never understood what people meant by saying it was incestuous either 😭 but I also never got that vibe from life with derek and apparently EVERYONE else did ??? I can't tell if they're weird or if I'm just somehow missing the "signs"

I haven't seen Life with Derek in foreverrrrr! I can't say much about that because it's been so long, so I may not remember a lot of moments. But I do recall never really getting that vibe while watching it either. And with this commercial, it just seems so innocent to me.

@thesaltofcarthage made this lengthy reply to my tags last night here that gave some more insight on what others are seeing with it. I appreciate them taking the time to give an explanation because I can better understand where others are coming from now with this perspective.

However, I'm still in the camp of it being totally innocent. Maybe it's just because I have several siblings and each of them has a different relationship with me that I'm just not agreeing with the majority here. Different siblings have different relationships and I just see these two particular siblings as ones that have a great relationship and may not tease too much. The brother is obviously older (and I, assume, out of college due to traveling so long) and the sister is definitely a teenager, so I just see them as having a gap of 5 or more years. He's been away awhile and she missed him. She does something cheesy and he's confused but happy about it in the end. Nothing more to it in my eyes.

That post I linked mentioned that a sibling wouldn't do that because you'd find the gift more important instead of your sibling, so it reads more romantic that she chose her brother over opening her gift right away. I just don't agree. Siblings care a lot about each other if their relationship is healthy and good. The commercial is supposed to be cheesy because it's a holiday commercial. They could've added a bit of teasing in there, but they did something sweet and straight to the point and left it at that. I didn't see any implications of anything inappropriate.
