Look I wish, cause at least that would be like fun within fandom and we could laugh about it... but these are actual idiots working within an actual media force, it's not just writers who saw this shit, it's like three artists or more that probably said, "yeah ok how do we make people cringe at this?", it's the editor of the book and then an editor in chief, a marketing person, and there's more I'm forgetting, but like the reality is that a lot of people greenlighted this whether actively or with their silent acquiescence.

They watched this be developed by some idiot that fucking thought it was a good idea to have black characters named after buzzwords used to devalue people that care about other people, like just... There's no way this is good in any form because it just calls back to a degradation of social movements.

And tbh I don't think they're gonna represent that and like whoever wrote those damn names has zero imagination, like it could have been a play of words, it could have been another language, Latin roots, I don't fucking know but it doesn't sound either like they're taking it seriously rather than using it for either shock or straight up parodying, and the worst part is precisely that it's with the backing of a company with actual power.

However decadent Marvel is right now they still have readers, and I wanna maybe believe that it's not done in bad faith but there's no hope in me because we're talking about a publication house that straight up catered to nazis, NAZIS, with an entire event, that one of its writers had antisemitic imagery in one of the Thanos solo books, that an editor in chief dismissed the concerns brought up by Jewish readers of the consequences of catering to Joss Whedon and Disney's cinematic antisemitism within the comicbooks and the story of the Maximoffs, a house that promoted a white man taking the lives of nameless Asian wizards in the pages of Doctor Strange, a house that consistently lightens Kamala's skin tone and changes her features to palatable whiteness when she appears anywhere but her own fucking comicbook, a house that still draws Storm as an amalgam of what a black woman should look like so that future artists can lighten her skin, make her whiter when it suits them, make her easy to digest to fetishists and racists, a house that protected and rehired a man that pretended to be an Asian writer to get away with writing racist fucking Asian tropes so that he wouldn't be criticized for his racist portrayals of Asian cultures, a house that in short repeatedly ignores its readers and steps on entire demographics in the name of profit and an invisible white cishet man to cater.

And the worst part is that all the examples I gave belong only to the last five years or so ffs.

I do not trust them for one second with this. And sorry I let it out in this ask but Marvel is utter fucking trash and its moral practices? Non-existent, for me to actually see this heading into any direction that isn't somehow denigrating of the people they claim to represent is just wishful thinking. I have no basis of trust not even with writers I like.
