so, Sans plays the trombone, right? well, i've never been able to get the idea of Papyrus, being the sweet guy he is, playing the viola! it's a lesser known instrument, almost always overshadowed by it's near-twin, the violin, but it's just as important!

And Blue definitely seems the type to play either percussion or clarinet. i dunno why, bro just gives those vibes.

in my opinion, if Fresh were forced to play an actual instrument, he would either be a trumpet player or piccolo, both options being purely to annoy people. But if he wasn't forced into it, and he chose to? He gives off either guitar or alto sax vibes [to me]

Hello!! <3 This is a wild coincidence because I was just talking about this with a few pals the other day! Starting with Nile, because I think she's the best suited for it. Something about her says Band Kid.

Nile: Trombone! A very important part of the marching band! I can see her playing this from the time she was little. Maybe her dad used to play! Maybe she practiced with his old instrument. Also, I just love the sound for her!

Andy: I want to say the tuba! Also a very essential component to the whole marching band. And it's bloody huge and I think she could easily carry it for hours. (Upon a bit more research, I think the instrument I might be thinking of is a sousaphone).

Joe: Saxophone, baby! Or perhaps a flute. The range of sound and the whimsical sound of the flute just match Joe's artistic/poetic nature to me. Or he can just be a hopeless romantic and play some smooth jazz.

Nicky: Can I say... piccolo Nicolo? sdfghf. No but for real I feel like he would carry a heavier instrument than a piccolo, like maybe a trumpet. Trumpets sort of make me think of his voice.

Booker: Maybe it has something to do with the way I picture him in my head -- the Napoleonic foot soldier --- but I think Booker would absolutely play drums. One of those small ones that hangs at your front that you tippity-tap with two sticks. Little drummer boy.

Quynh: Cymbals. She reeks of chaos. Like you know that kid in School of Rock who got put on cymbals because he's a little hyperactive? Yeah, that could be Quynh. OR, wind. I would give her a nice little flute or a clarinet.

Lykon: I'd put Lykon on flute too, actually! We don't see much of him but we know his choice weapon is a spear. I guess my brain is going spear = long and skinny = flute.

Bonus! Copley: That one giant drum. Or do marching bands still have a triangle guy? I feel like Copley would get stuck with the instrument no one else wants to play dfgfds I can't explain it, it's just his luck.

I seen a post about how you forgot your instrument before a concert; how'd it go and what instrument did you play?

I play the alto saxophone! I play a couple of instruments, actually. Mostly the piano and alto sax, but I'm also half-decent at flute, clarinet, trumpet, and so on and so forth.

It's a long story. I skipped a year of my band class so I could get finished with this one stupid course we're forced to take by the government. So, finally, I'm back. However, for the years prior I had been using a school saxophone. Annnddd because I was returning after being gone, I found that there were no more saxophones for me to use. So I rented one.

I brought it to school the next day, played it, and then I put my name on it in bright, orange marker. Just a simple strip of scotch tape with my name. I also recall the neckstap being a clip-on and generally nice quality. I finished with the class, put it into the storage room cause lugging around a 25lbs saxophone is tedious and I don't really like practicing at home cause it's a little awkward. But, before I put it away, I remember taking a lil' sticker than came with the saxophone and putting it on the side. It was diagonal and off-center. I just kinda haphazardly slapped it on without really thinking. Then, I sealed it away inside and moved onto my next class.

The next day it's gone.

I can't find it. The saxophone with my name tag is just gone. Disappeared. I tore the storage room apart discreetly, trying not to alert attention. Nothing. It's vanished.

So, I panic. "Oh my god my rented saxophone is gone. Oh my god ohhhh my godddd" I'm trying to figure out a way to find this saxophone without telling anybody it's missing to begin with. I'mma be real with you all: I have a horrible habit of refusing to get help when I need it. I hate having to swallow my pride and embrace the slight embarrassment of having to be vulnerable and ask for help. Besides!! It's...probably in there! I'm just stupid and it's gonna be right in front of my face.

Only issue is that I still don't have a saxophone to play. Asking the conductor for help is a no-go cause my brain said so. Sooooo...I...kinda stole a saxophone that looked like mine. My rationalization was that it looked like mine. It had that sticker! The sticker I kinda just slapped on! It...must be mine. Maybe I had fabricated that memory of putting my name onto it.

It was supposed to be a once-and-done. One day I'd use another kid's instrument (which, hey, it might be mine!! Maybe it's mine...maybe...) for one day and it'll be over. I'll find it eventually. It's a temporary solution.

I used that saxophone for six months.

I knew another kid was using that saxophone because occasionally I would see new reeds pop up. My band class is split into three different classes, one with the freshmen, one with the sophomores, and one with the juniors and seniors. I knew it must have been used by a younger kid because the reeds were splintered already despite seemingly brand new. What was this kid doing??? Chewing on the reed??

I cleaned that thing religiously by the way. Revolting as it is, I made sure that I cleaned it both before and after.

But, yeah, finally it caught up to me. I had to do a concert which was a judication with the entire district. All of the classes had to go. Me taking that saxophone would mean I'd be jeopardizing some other kid's night. I couldn't do that.

So I missed it. It was the night where the truth spilt out. I had to get help.

I got the serial code of my saxophone and was in there the next day. I grabbed the saxophone I had been using and was chatting with my teacher about looking for my instrument during break. I was putting it together when...the code on the saxophone looked familiar. I pull out my phone and looked at the serial number of my saxophone.

...this is MY SAXOPHONE!!

SOMEBODY ELSE had been using MY saxophone! Somebody else had stripped off my name, put THEIRS on it, and had been using MY instrument for all of these months!

It was the complete opposite of what I thought was happening! I thought I was using some other kid's instrument while my own saxophone was being used by another kid, possibly taking it home every night so I can't see it. NO! I was using MY SAXOPHONE but some other kid was obviously using it too!!

Anyways so that was a major relief. I told the teacher and sentenced my instrument to my locker. If that kid comes around and is confused on where ""their"" saxophone went, it's gonna be funny. I didn't miss a concert just cause this kid couldn't tell that this wasn't their saxophone!

TL;DR: I'm stupid. It was my saxophone all along.

INSTRUMENTS THE HAIKYUU BOYS WOULD PLAY | INARIZAKI

SUNA , i see him playing the violin or clarinet to be honest (possibly percussionist?). he'd be that one kid in orchestra/band who is always prepared with his notes, but that's because he barley touches them. but despite not always practicing his ass off, this guy still plays god like. if you touch or even dare to look at his instrument, he will give you the death glare. he treats it as if it's his child because he already knows he isn't ready for a real one. with reeds for his clarinet, he doesn't know when he needs a new one until his instructor or classmate tells him. but when he does know, he usually forgets. "reeds got nothing on me," actually they do suna, you need it to play your instrument.

ATSUMU , trumpet !!! or any brass instrument in general. maybe even the trombone? he loves making noise, and by noise i mean random high/low notes to kill the eardrums of his fellow band mates around him. but in all seriousness, atsumu is actually really good once he gets the hang of it. not a prodigy or anything, believe me (and osamu), he was awful on his first note. sounded like a screeches cat. if he plays the trombone, i know for a fact that he'd use the slide in front of people on purpose. not all the time though, like suna, he protects his instrument with his whole heart.

OSAMU , he could totally be a trumpet player like his twin brother, but he decides not to. plus, he wouldn't want to be in the same seating section as him just so he could annoy the heck out of him. i think osamu would play the french horn. he isn't the best at it, but he's pretty good. he wouldn't take it as a career though, just a flex. he also loves the design of the instrument, that's what drew him in the first place. but who can blame him? the french horn is a beauty!

KITA , oh my... kita could play any instrument and be decent at it, he just needs to learn the basics. i see kita playing either the piano, or the cello. i don't know much about string instruments, but they just scream kita shinsuke to me. he practices a lot and takes it very seriously. he's always up to tutor his peers, his patience isn't as low so don't worry! he's up for challenges, but there are times where he gets stuck too. i imagine kita writing cute notes on his music sheet, but his writing is very clear and neat. they help him remember if he ever forgets.

ARAN , he has got to play the tuba. personally, i don't headcanon aran playing a string instrument i don't think he'd be able to adjust himself to it. kita has already tried to teach him, but it's frustrating:/ all brass players usually sit at the back in band, either the last or the last to second row. aran actually doesn't mind it, plus he feels more at ease since he isn't so close to the band instructor. once he's really into the song, he won't miss a single note or play it wrong. atsumu will praise him once in a while, he secretly looks up to aran in band since he's usually got his act together:)

AKAGI , he either a oboe player or a percussionist! my indecisive mind can't chose just one. like osamu, akagi probably wouldn't want to continue playing as a career. shifting to the percussionist side, if he ever heard someone telling him he was it "easy", he'll get visually upset. and pissed off. percussionist don't just stand there playing just the drums or whatever, no. they're job is to keep the tempo and if they're just a little bit off, it ruins the whole song. akagi takes it very seriously, but once in awhile he'll randomly play the crash symbols with atsumu in secret.

GINJIMA , i'm 120% sure he'd play the saxophone. he and atsumu are brass buddies- i know this is ginjima's part but atsumu gets along with everyone in band most of the time. moving on, he brings in energy during rehearsal and he loves to show off every chance he can. not that he tries to of course, the students younger than him look up to him a lot. whenever he gets stuck on a certain section though, ugh his frustration. he keeps reminding himself that he's got it and will even look up yt tutorials, do they help? not as much. so he musters up the courage to ask his director.

OMIMI , i'm just gonna go with the french horn for dear omimi. he and osamu are a perfect match together in band, and their seats are next to each other. both help each other out with notes, very reserved. it kind of upsets him when their peers go to osamu for help instead though. he promises that he's really not that scary! i couldn't really see omimi playing a loud, huge instrument. nor could i see him playing the flute as much, still possible though. believe it or not, band is actually a place for him to relax. well, not when atsumu is sneaking into the french horn section. his music sheets are very organized, he makes sure to always be on time with his instrument right out of it's case.

1000% on board with Aang on tuba but only because of The Headband. He'd have to learn not to dance though, at least while with other's around because it might throw them off.

Sokka on trombone is good. Honestly I don't have one instrument in my head for him because I can't stop imagining him as drum major. The fun kind who gives good speeches before and after and helps kids who need help and doesn't yell at the color guard for something we can't control like the wind knocking out flags out of our hands or not marching fast enough (can you tell I've had some Not Nice drum majors?)

Toph on percussion is the only answer. And yeah, she makes them all look bad. Starts out on quads maybe but graduates to a base drum. It's not like she needs to be able to see over the top.

Suki, Ty Lee, and Mai. I'm glad you agree with me because I've already claimed them as guard. Suki is captain obviously and her and Sokka make quite the pair in charge. Mai went to auditions only because Ty Lee did but ended up staying. Complains a lot about the make up, especially of the sparkly kind, but always does it. In charge of hair of parade days and football games because she's secretly great with doing both her own hair and other's.

You say Katara on flute. I say, consider this: Katara on quads. Maybe she starts out on flute in elementary school but in junior high she discovers percussion and is like 'wow this is a good way to vent my anger and not something that won't get me in trouble' because the girl has a secret angry side she rarely lets out. Also because my best friend is quads and they have similar vibes when angry so yeah. But honestly I could see it either way.

Azula is in the same camp as Sokka as in idk what they would play but they'd totally be drum major. But Azula is the horrible kind who gives really aggressive pep talks and tells at the guard and everyone really. Very obsessive though and her band is high ranking (if I could imagine anyone letting Ozai anywhere near kids I'd say he's the director but no. He's in jail for child abuse and probably tax evasion, end of story)

Zuko...where to start with Zuko? Again I know very little about band because guard is it's own seperate thing but all of my friends are in band or guard so I know band kids if not instruments. Trumpet players have negative connotations for me for the most part so I'm putting him in the flute section. No I won't explain.

Iroh would be a good director but also a good band parent? My school has band boosters, idk if it's called that other places, but they give us snacks and water after performances and cook breakfast before early parades and help with guns raising. This seems more Iroh to me but because of the cannon music nights on Zuko's ship o choose to believe he got his niece and nephew into music in the first place
