Thinking about how Ma Meilleure Ennemie can be considered a continuation and an interesting thematic expansion of Enemy.

"No shit, lmao, they both have the word enemy in them".

Like, yes, that's exactly the point.

But there's more to it than meets the eye.

We all know that Enemy in many ways is meant to be from Jinx's perspective (music video supports that) - it's HER internal worries, it's HER exhaustingly sad sarcasm, it's HER wreck of emotions that she can't stop.

The song explains why and how she basically convinced herself that she's a curse and will never be a saint no matter what she does.

She exclaims that everybody wants to be her enemy. For her this word means "the person that everyone hates, the person who everyone abandoned, the person for whom no one prays or hopes".

And then in Ma Meilleure Ennemie Ekko... agrees with her - she IS his enemy. But to him this word has so much more meaning and underlying feelings than just "the person I'm against, the person I hate".

For him enemy is also someone who's always near - if not in body, then in mind. Someone who truly shares history with you and can hurt you in more ways than one.

Who you hate so much because you had too much love in your heart for them.

Hatred is not the opposite of love, it's just love with a minus instead of plus, the true opposite of love is indifference. And Ekko feels anything but indifference towards Jinx, even though he tried so many times to convince himself otherwise.

To make matters worse, the whole "meilleur/pire" (best/worst) dichotomy that is constantly present in the song literally from the beginning, is a simple yet clever play on a famous wedding vow - "Pour le meilleur et pour le pire" (translation: for the best and the worst of it). The more they try to convince each other that they should not be together, the more they intertwine their fates because they repeat this vow again and again.

And then in the second verse of Ma Meilleure Ennemie Jinx finally lets herself say things she was so afraid to say before. Lets her feelings and thoughts be known in the most vulnerable way possible. Not with Enemy's upset angry screaming but with this gentle melodic whisper.

And what does she have to say about her feelings towards the person who she shares so much complicated history with?

That his name cuts her open every time she hears it. And that's why she doesn't say it - it hurts her so much.

Ekko's name literally echoes in her mind. Jinx can't even say for sure whether this pain she feels comes from hatred that formed over the years or from pure sweetness, softness and gentleness that she still keeps in her heart for him.

And then comes Je t’avais dit: “Ne regarde pas en arrière” (translation: I told you not to look back) which is such an obvious Orpheus and Eurydice myth reference when you say it out loud.

Albeit, their situation is an interesting take on this myth.

Let me explain. Orpheus had a chance to bring his wife Eurydice back to the land of the living if he guided her there without looking back or else she would end up in the underworld again. There are several versions of the myth that give different explanations on why Orpheus turns back, but they all agree on one thing - it was done because of love.

However, in Ekko's case it's kind of a reverse situation - Jinx will disappear if he turns away from her.

That's what, in my opinion, Turn Your Back and I'll Disappear song means, actually.

And here, at the end of second verse, Jinx explicitly tells Ekko that he shouldn't look back. He should leave past behind, should leave her behind, let her disappear from his life and from this world altogether or else everything will get infinitely worse.

But of course he doesn't, of course he turns back (time) again and again.

He does it because he loves her, just like Orpheus loves Eurydice.

Mike uses his Will voice in Dustin's book and he's afraid of losing Will (and El), Dustin mentions all the things in his healthy relationship with Suzie (like having things in common and being honest with each other) and Mike can't relate to that (they spent s3 and s4 lying to each other) and he doesn't know what to talk to El about, this book was made by a professional writer who's a Byler shipper

in s2 in the shed scene they showed Byler while the lyrics said "if you say that you are mine" "i'll be here till the end of time" , they're the only fully romantic lyrics in the song

THIS was Mike's pov not Will's which is why Will is blurred out but after this Mike turns to Will and he looks happy but then Mike looks back at El and he looks sad and i think there are 2 reasons for that

1 he was scared of how El would react to the truth (he's gay and in love with Will)

2 he was trying to make Will jealous (cuz he knew Will was in love with him during that moment) but then he noticed that it didn't work and he got sad about it, at the airport he was also trying to make Will jealous by kissing El's cheek after he learned that Angela would be at rink o mania (and he thought Will had a crush on Angela), the parallels with Rovickie were intentional cuz we're gonna have 2 queer couples instead of one

they called the van scene the most heartfelt scene in s4? heartfelt means: from the heart, sincere, genuine, which means Mike lied during the monologue cuz they could've called that scene the most heartfelt scene of s4 but they didn't

I was watching the video where the Utah team were asked their Karaoke song, Clayton's being Wagon Wheel. Then I listened to it and then I realised that I think he'd call you mama when you're pregnant (tbh I think he'd sometimes call you it even if you're not pregnant or a mum) Also I'm less than 200 away from 1000, should I do a celebration? You feel like a very sick, very achy whale. That's really the only way to explain how being 7 months pregnant felt. You were dealing with feeling sick every day, baby deciding she wanted to twist and turn at all hours and kick you at every opportunity. She was heavy as well causing your back to ache, your ankles to swell and your entire body to hurt.

You're just trying to grab something to eat but have to stop halfway to the kitchen, hands pressing to your back, leaning in such away that your bump presses out further. You're starting to get fed up with this pregnancy stuff and Clay hates watching you feel so wrong in your skin every day...even as he thinks you look the most beautiful you ever have, carrying his baby.

Hands are sliding over your lower back, long sturdy fingers pressing into the tense muscle there as Clay presses his chin to your shoulder, having spotted your discomfort a mile off. He knows this pregnancy is being rough on you and he's trying his best to be attentive, supportive even when he's away on a roadie.

"How you doin', mama?" Even as you're annoyed at him for getting you pregnant and putting you in this position, you can't help but relax into him, shoulders pressing back against his chest as his hands move around to your belly, rubbing across the taut fabric of your t-shirt there. The moment you found out you were pregnant Clay had started calling you mama more than he called you baby, a shift that melted you ever single time. Even when you were irrationally and hormonally angry at him.

"Everything hurts and your baby is making me sick." You moan at him, huffing and annoyed even as your body relaxes into him, putting your weight back on him. He just huffs out a laugh at you, knowing you're not actually upset with him and that even if you were he has no right to be upset about that. Not when you're dealing with all the aches and pains of giving him a baby.

"My baby? Mama, you cannot blame me entirely for her actions." He says this even as she kicks you under his palms as if she knows exactly where his hands are and aims for them. You're almost certain she'd be a penalty box baby.

"You put me in this position."

"I know...I know." He hushes you, pressing a light kiss to your shoulder before nuzzling into the crook of your neck. He feels bad on some level for how uncomfortable you are, even as he's happy you're having his baby, "What's hurting the most right now?"

"My back, your baby is a fucking giant. Big ass head." It's ridiculous you think, that he's only 5ft 10 and yet his baby feels like a giant. You can't even begin to contemplate how large she'd be if he'd been someone like Michael...it makes you shudder in dread. God help his future partner if she decides to have a baby with him.

"C'mere, mama." He's pulling you back against him even as you start to resist his movements, trying to pull away from him unsure what he's about to do and overly suspicious of his motives. You don't want any of his hairbrained schemes right now, you're too uncomfortable for it.

"Clay..?"

"Come here. Trust me, baby." You stop resisting until he's pressed flat against your back, hands sliding over your bump and underneath with a softness, a gentleness that always surprises you. For a man who can shoot a puck at 90mph he can be astoundingly gentle.

It's almost a shock, the good kind, how Clay's large hands cup your belly from underneath and lift until he's taking the brunt of the 10lbs you're certain your baby is going to end up being.

"Oh..." You sigh back into him, relaxing so completely that you're almost jelly. Head leaning back onto his shoulder, eyes closing. It's instant relief from some of the back pain and the aches, all of that weight lifted from you by his hands so easily because to him the weight is nothing, but then he's not carrying it all day, every day.

"That feel better, mama?" He mumbles it against your temple, pressing intermittent kisses there as he watches the way you ease into him, the smile of relief on your face. You're his baby too, his first baby, and you're important, as important if not more than his baby baby. Taking some of the pressure off you, helping you feel good? That's more important than anything else.

"Mmmmm...yeah, much better." You're so soft against him, pliable, boneless. Clay feels a certain sort of pride at the fact he's able to help like this, that he can take some of that pain and pressure away even for a few minutes.

"I'm sorry she's being mean to you..." God, he can't wait to meet her, but he also hopes she's not as difficult once she's here. Terrified she's going to be a hellion that has him pulling his hair out from stress. All she's done is spend the pregnancy kicking you, keeping you awake at night and making you vomit while making you crave food you hate and be unable to stomach foods you love. If anyone should get an award for patience and resilience it's you.

"She's going to be a handful...but I love her anyway." You smile as he kisses your temple again, firm enough you can feel it, but not too rough that it'll jar you.

"You're going to be the best mama, baby."

"I hope so..." You mumble as he eases your belly back down. Pulling you to lay on the couch with your swollen ankles in his lap. Fingers massaging against the swollen skin as you lean back into the couch pillows.

"You worried?" He watches you, assessing you as he works his fingers into the arch of your heel, pressing at tense little spots. You're biting your lip worriedly as you watch him, gone into that spot in your head you go to sometimes, even as your hand strokes across your belly in an attempt to sooth the baby who's started kicking you again.

"Mmm, just get scared sometimes that she might hate me," There's this part of you that's terrified you won't bond with your baby, that no matter how hard you try she won't love you back...or worse that you'll mess up, do something that makes her hate you.

Clay's hand smooths up your calf to the back of your knee, his eyes impossibly soft as he looks at you. A gentle reassuring smile pulling at his lips.

"Not possible, mama. Promise she's going to love you as much as I do."

And you believe him. In that moment, it's hard to imagine that Clayton's wrong. He knows you better than anyone else, the only other person who knows your baby almost as well as you do. Knows what makes her kick, how best to get her to settle so you can sleep and what foods stop her making you vomit. In that moment you can't imagine that he could possible be wrong and it makes you want to cry because all you want is to be a good mum to your baby, to be a good partner to Clay, to have it all work out.

"...thank you."

Still Alive having such good lyrics in addition to being a great piece with the music alone is what makes it take the top space for me!

'I WON'T LET YOU GO HOME' is for when Siffrin is on his last legs (both physically and mentally)- he doesn't want his (found) family to leave him behind. He doesn't want to be alone, especially when he doesn't have a place TO call home anymore. His home is (technically) gone, along with all of his memories of it. And he actually found a family (found family :D) with the group he joined to save the country. He doesn't want them to leave- he doesn't want them to forget him- and he doesn't want to forget THEM. So when Siffrin gets to his last loop in Act 5, hearing the Head Housemaiden remind him that Everyone Will Be Going Their Separate Ways Since The Country Is Saved Now, he snaps, and before the resulting 'fight' he thinks "I WON'T LET YOU GO HOME." The name of the song!!! During the fight 'I WON'T LET YOU GO HOME' plays in, there's actually an option for Siffrin to hurt himself instead of his friends/family, the '(Don't attack)' 'craft' with the description "Can't hurt them. Attack the only person left." and that really shows how much he cares about them, to have the option of hurting himself because he doesn't want to hurt the people he loves. (You can, in fact, attack them, but the option to Not attack them is very present and will progress the fight/story as well.) I would explain more but I don't want to explain any more than necessary. I don't want to explain EVERYTHING and spoil the whole game for people >w<

OH MY ACTUAL GOD I JUST LISTENED TO BITE ME AND IT'S PERFECT! Not just because it's a banger, but the actual meaning behind the song in relation to Cyn is EXACTLY what I've wanted with her this whole time.

At first, I wasn't sure if the singer was supposed to be Uzi or Cyn, but later on it seems to definitely be Cyn, especially at the 1:00 mark saying how she's so far gone and even says "eat my heart, take my soul, let it burn you" which is exactly what Uzi did.

So, knowing that Cyn is singing, it makes the part at 2:13 VERY interesting

"You should let me go I'M NOT WORTH SAVING We won't let them know

Let them carry on LET THEM SWALLOW YOU You won't save me too

WE WON'T LET THEM SWALLOW YOU"

If it is Cyn singing, then this part is the real Cyn saying to not only not worry about saving her, but also to not let the heroes know she's still there so they don't have to feel sorry and can move on. Most of the other lyrics seems to be the Solver singing through Cyn.

This. It's exactly what I've wanted.

The real Cyn truly was still in there somewhere, but that latter part of what she's saying is why there’s no actual “she’s still in there” moment.

I have long been an advocate of “Cyn is also an unwitting victim of the Solver” ever since episode 5 - hell, ever since that brief glimpse of her in episode 4 - and this confirms it. I so badly wanted Cyn's real personality to shine though for a moment, maybe to apologize and/or ask to be killed and freed, but it just being part of the song in the background makes it even more tragic.

Cyn knows she must be stopped at all costs, and she would rather her family think she’s either already gone or never existed than make them get hung up on trying to save her from the Solver, especially after seeing the lengths and dangers N went to to save Uzi from possession.

It’s such a beautifully sad fate. I don’t know if it’s the Solver or Cyn herself now living in Uzi’s tail (the latter would explain why it’s suddenly friendly to her after she ruined everything for it), but one thing is clear: Cyn cares about her family and wants them to win, even if she has to die.

It’s weird. After the finale left me with that classic, inevitable, “now what?” hollow feeling when a show ends, listening to this song on its own gave me one last closure with the series I didn’t think I’d get. Like, I genuinely can't describe the feeling in my chest when I realized what I was hearing after thinking the last chance for it to happen had already passed. I am so happy right now.

(Yes, I know I could have heard those lyrics in the original video, but I'm bad at picking up on lyrics mid-action, and a part of me feels like some time to marinate on the ending helped make this realization more impactful.)

I was OVERJOYED to be at the Leviathan panel during Otakon 2024! I'll do my best to recap it below, but if you want a more coherent play by play, this Twitter user did an excellent job.

Clanker and Darwinist technology designs. Watanave explained that Studio Orange's early days were spent doing contract work on Gundam anime, so I can't wait to see how that translates to the Clanker machines.

By the way, the entire series is being adapted at once - so we'll get the complete story at once! That in mind, the second image here makes me think of that maneuver near the beginning of Goliath to pick up the cargo.

Sharp!!! Look at them!!!

I don't have much to say about these but I'm fairly sure I hadn't seen them before. I am wondering if they downsized Alek's crew for the sake of the story, or perhaps we just haven't seem Bauer and Hoffman yet.

We got some new character art! The panel was very cryptic about who the character designer is. Apparently they're pretty well known, but they can't share it yet!

Volger I am so sorry your photo was unfocused. Forgive me.

The panel jokingly described him as "Alek's dad," which feels accurate. And maybe I misunderstood, but it sounds like he plays an even more important role in the anime than he does in the books. I've always considered Volger to be a pretty important character, so I wonder what else he'll do in this new series.

Klopp looks exactly like how I pictured him in my mind!! They said if Volger is Alek's dad, then Klopp is like his mom. Which is very fair but also made me laugh a lot.

Dr. Barlow!! She looks amazing. There was a lot of talk about the dynamic between her and Volger and how they're often playing mental chess games with each other. I'm really glad they're leaning into that dynamic.

This looks like the visit to Istanbul, which I'm desperately hoping means we'll see my favorite chaotic bisexual, Lilit.

That's all of the photos I have! They also showed us a preview of the show plus a live performance of the ending song with Diana Garnet. No video recording was allowed and I don't break rules, but believe me when I tell you it was stunning. The world feels so full of life and adventure and I can't wait to see the final show.

Tbh I was too busy holding back tears of joy but one thing I remember distinctly is there's a shot of Sharp getting ready for the day, and we see a sheet of paper with a bunch of names written and crossed out before finally (I think) "Dylan" is circled.

Which actually brings me to the Q&A part. TLDR, between the use of "Sharp" for Deryn's name, Scott referring to Sharp as "she/he/they" during the panel, and the scene I mentioned earlier, I feel really hopeful about how they're approaching Deryn's gender and identity in this adaptation.

I asked a question about this at the Q&A and voice recorded it, so I'll try to transcribe it here as best I can because the audio is not great lol. I stumbled through my question so I trimmed it down here but I'll transcribe the response as clearly as I can!

Me: I just finished re-reading [the series] for the first time since I was probably in high school, and one of the things that interests me about this adaptation is the approach to Sharp's character... I guess I'm just interested, like, was there a lot of thought put behind, or what kind of thought was put behind how to approach their character in the anime, I guess as a chance to re-approach the story however many years after it was originally written.

Scott Westerfeld: Yeah, there's a lot to that. The "girl dressing as a boy" as a trope was something completely different in 2007 when I started writing this than it is now. And so we really approached Deryn's identity as what was at stake rather than just... rather than just her being in disguise, it's about their recreating themselves and becoming a different person and transitioning and, and so... but it's always been interesting to me that the words that I wrote back in 2009, 10, 11, y'know, as an old guy who grew up in Texas in the 70s - who was David Bowie fan! - but otherwise didn't have a lot of access into issues of gender, I'm amazed at how many people have been [able to?] adopt Deryn/Dylan as one of their own. I just got an email a week ago from a trans boy whose chosen name is Dylan. So it is amazing to me how whatever imperfections or whatever problematics there are in the text, people still find their way into what they need from a character. And as a writer, I can say that I always respected that character, I always respected their choices, I always respected who they were. I never tried to stick them into a dress and have everyone go "Ooh now you're pretty 'because 'cause you're in dress!" We didn't do that, and I think that what may be important for people and I think that's why it's still what's gonna work here, but it's been fun to be able to update it and everybody on the team's been really great about understanding that.

TLDR I don't want to get anyone's hopes up too high, but I'm really appreciative of the care that's being taken with Sharp's story and identity in this adaptation. It seems like Scott and the others on the team are taking that into account, and I'm excited to see how it plays out.

Other random things I remember:

THERE WAS AN ALEK COSPLAYER. I took a photo with them but I won't post it without their consent. Just trust that they looked fantastic.

Scott said one of the first things he was told was that Alek can't actually kill Nikola Tesla because he's too well loved by people in Japan, which I think is the funniest possible reason for a change to be made in an adaptation.

Diana Garnet (they/any) mentioned how much they love Sharp (don't we all) and also how they used to work at a Barnes and Noble and remembers selling lots of Westerfeld books!

Scott said his approach in writing Leviathan was taking everything he'd always wanted to write about and basically throwing it together, because he was just coming off of the success of Uglies and figured he could get away with it.

If I remember anything else I'll add on to this post! Overall, it was a wonderful panel and I'm incredibly excited for this project.

Y/N POV

You and Nick have been texting back and forth for a few days at this point and your excitement for the collab has grown even more, if that is possible. You’ve been looking at hotels and plane tickets, trying to see how they would fit into your budget. You can't seem to find any plane tickets that are less than $250, so you decide to text Nick to see if they could collab next time they are back in Boston, that being a cheaper flight from Jersey.

“I can't find a cheap flight to fit into my budget, do you think we could collab next time the three of you are in Boston? It would be a cheaper flight for me to book…” You send Nick the text with a small sigh, not sure when the next time they will be home or if they will even want to collab with you when they are.

Your phone is quick to ping again, it was Nick texting you back, “girl don’t worry about anything! We’ll cover it for you, we wanted you to come out to LA so we don’t expect you to cover everything… We will book you a nice hotel near our house and get you a good plane ticket!” You read Nick's text with a large smile, they really didn’t have to do any of that, but it was nice that they are. Them paying to fly you out would help you out, leaving you with extra money to spend while in LA.

You're quick to shoot a text back to him, saying everything along the lines of “thank you so much” and “I really appreciate that” and “it means so much to me!” Because it really did, they didn’t know and probably wont ever know how much this means so you, you saying thank you will never be enough.

Matts POV

“She’s saying she can't afford a flight and hotel out here…” Nick says as he reads the text out loud, to Matt and Chris, that you sent him. Matt looks between his two brothers before an idea pops into his head.

”Tell her we will cover it,” Matt is quick to say. “Just take it out of my account, I was the one who wanted to collab with her in the first place.” He explains to his brothers before they can even say anything.

“Okay,” Nick says, slightly suspicious of his one brothers need to have you here. Nick was quick to catch onto Matt’s fond interest with you, seemingly always catching him looking at your new insta post or scrolling through your TikTok or watching an edit of you on there. Nick often hears your voice coming from Matt’s room, assuming Matt is watching one of your YouTube videos-one that he’s probably seen nine times already but still watches it because it is his favorite video of you.

After a beat of silence Matt speaks up again, “I just think it would be nice, since we are the ones who want to collab and have her come out here.” explaining his idea more, even though neither Nick nor Chris asked anything about why he was wanting to pay. “Could you do me a favor though, and not tell her I’m the only one paying for it?” Matt asks Nick with a shy smile.

Matt didn’t want you to know he was the sole reason they wanted to collab with you, being slightly embarrassed about how excited he is to meet you for the first time. He also didn’t want you to know he was paying for your whole trip, not wanting you to feel bad for only him spending so much money on you.

“Do you think you could give me her number? So then I can let her know what the car looks like and what number to expect when we go to pick her up,” Nick is quick to give Matt a small nod and even smaller smirk, knowing the exact reason he is asking for your number, but Nick didn’t wanna ruin Matt’s fun so he sent him your number.

Three days later…

Your phone pings with a random number but the message doesn’t concern you, it actually makes your stomach twist in excitement. The text reads, “Hey Y/N, it’s Matt Sturniolo. Nick gave me your number so then I can text you when we come to pick you up from the airport, or so we can just talk and get to know each other a little better before you fly here”

“Matthew Sturniolo wants to get to know me!” You say quietly to yourself, your heart pounding as you read the text over and over again. You’ve always liked Matt the most, thinking he was the best looking, the one you related to the most out of the three of them, and overall someone you genuinely wanted to meet and see what they are like in person.

With a big grin and shaking fingers you text him back, “Hi Matt, I would love to get to know you some more before flying out. Thanks for texting me, and know that I’m always open to talk and all!” You hit send on the text and send your phone flying across your bed with a small squeal. A few small giggles leave your lips as you think about what just happened. The Matthew Sturniolo just text you, wanting to get to know you.

But what you didn’t know is that your text did the same thing to him. Making his stomach twirl in excitement as he read over your words. The same small giggles leaving his lips as he blushes and smiles at the words, “I would love to get to know you…” on his screen.

AN: i hoped you enjoyed this part! The next part is Y/N flying out to la and meeting the triplets for the first time!! And texting Matt some more🤭

i added my thoughts to the takavoltti lyrical analysis here but today i want to talk about why i think takavoltti is one of käärijä's most finnish songs ever.

this got a bit long, so just so you know what to expect going in: what i mean by most finnish is that there are references and tone of voice that are very specific to finland, there is complex use of the finnish language AND there are melodic/musical choices in the song that sound very finnish to me.

okay, here goes.

the dialogue that opens the song is already a sort of key moment to this finnishness of it all. when he says "emmä tiedä, kolisee jos kolisee, mut mun on pakko sit koittaa vetää tosi matalalla" he is doing a bit of a voice but more than that, he is talking in a way that is not quite his. his inflection, the rhythm, those are not natural to him or his dialect. you can hear it particularly when he says "koittaa vetää tosi matalalla". i don't know if it's at all easy to hear if you're not finnish, but it's not.. a serious voice or tone. the other two voices, one of them is modified to be high and the other talks like a sports announcer. the whole scene is quite comedic and it's a very specific genre of comedy that is very finnish indeed. it's also the type of thing he has been doing since always. (EDIT: OKEI MORE CONTEXT IN A REBLOG HERE)

funnily enough, you guys know köpi kallio now, the therapist in skit and autiomaa video? yeah köpi and his long time partner in crime viki are good examples of this type of humour i would say. they have their own podcast/show called viki ja köpi show but before that they were radio hosts and have been working together for ten years. the character voices and the whole vibe of the scene in the beginning of the song is very viki ja köpi to me, very ylex type comedy (yes ylex the radio station who did the ruisrock interview who still isn't back from the war).

and the small comedy bits stay in there through out the song, and they continue to have the same delivery instantly recognisable as comedic.

and that isn't to say the subject matter can't be serious. i think, again, this is something that feels inherently finnish to me. other finnish people feel free to chime in because this is hard to explain, but our culture is one where coping through making light of things is quite normal. and our sense of humour tends to be on the darker side, at least if you compare it to the american style of comedy that has taken over globally. so to make a song about there being too many demands on you and how you have a problem with setting boundaries and agreeing to insane shit, but to do it by interjecting the song with jokes just idk.. it sits in our culture lmao.

i honestly don't know how to explain this better, but quite dark comedic elements like this (after all he gets properly fucked up in the stunts it seems) in a song with a serious subject matter is something we've been doing for decades in this country (juice leskinen, for example) and it is something so loved by finnish people. we love a song that is just fucked up on multiple levels. käärijä is just adding his own style to this cultural history.

okay, onto the language.

the verse opens with "tekevälle sattuu" which is a finnish proverb.

quick finnish lesson: the word sattua in finnish means both to hurt and to happen. the word tehdä means to do but tehdä kipeää means hurting. like.. now that i think about it tämä tekee kipeää = this is doing (me a) hurt is valid and correct finnish lmao.

tekevälle sattuu, the proverb, actually means "things happen to those who do" but he is playing with the different meanings here, because he goes on to say "ain sattuu ku tekee" which can both mean "things always happen when you do" or it can mean "it always hurts when you do". then he goes on to say "ku tekee, ku kipee, ni kipeetä tekee" which is once again playing with words, because kipee here means both pain but also being sick. "ku tekee, ku kipee" would translate as "when you do as if you're sick" and "kipeetä tekee" means that it hurts.

so to recap (i'm not trying to provide a smooth translation, but highlight his wordplay:

tekevälle sattuu = things/pain happen to those who do [things]

ain sattuu ku tekee = shit happens/you get hurt when you do [things]

ku tekee, ku kipee, ni kipeetä tekee = when you do [things] like you're sick [in the head], you get hurt

so this is all to say two things: he's using the finnish language in a very clever way that really only becomes clear if you know the language and all of these idioms and proverbs. and also that he is very good at what he does. it has taken me four paragraphs to explain 13 words.

and he doesn't even end there. "oon yllytyshullu, ain hulluksi yllyn" is more play on words. jesus, jere. okay guys, stay with me.

yllytyshullu i explained in my previous analysis, but recap: yllytys means incitement and hullu means crazy. yllytyshullu is someone who does crazy shit when prompted.

"ain hulluksi yllyn" here he is using the word yltyä which is the same root as yllytys, but yltyä means usually more like.. to intensify. (for example: sade yltyy = the rain is getting heavier, or tuuli yltyy = the wind is picking up)

so to say hulluksi yllyn, he's saying like.. i let myself be incited and/or i always take it to the max, to the point of crazy.

and then he uses very clever rhyming words: "ja tää hullunmylly on kylmempi kylpy". hullu means crazy, mylly means mill, hullunmylly is basically a hullabaloo.

as you can tell, all of this is like bordering on impossible to translate accurately into a smooth translation. and that's just the first verse, but i'd be here all night if i explained the whole entire song 😭

and this to me is a very clear sign that no matter what sort of an audience he has internationally, he's not compromising on his language. and i find that admirable and, as a finnish person, very comforting too. this song is sort of reassuring, like he is reinserting himself very firmly into finnish culture, with the language and the comedy that do not translate very well. 

and if you look at the pre-chorus and chorus, the specific references keep coming: calling him kärtsä (finnish people have a lot of nicknames for him), "hyppää kybäst pommi" the slang use of kybä to mean ten meters, he mentions duudsonit (the dudesons) and he mentions jorvi hospital. all of these feel like he is signalling to a very finnish audience. (also "oon syypää sun hymyyn" could count as a cheek reference, cheek used to be like the biggest rapper in finland).

okay, time for melody and music speak. i only have one simple point here: melodically and musically speaking that has to be the most suomi iskelmä chorus i've heard from him. ever.

you could take that melody and insert it as the chorus to like any song on iskelmä radio. iskelmä is a finnish schlager music genre. kind of impossible to describe but something that finnish people will instantly recognise. the opening, with the piano synth could also open an iskelmä song.

very suomi, very iskelmä.

so.

all of this is why i think takavoltti is about as finnish as it gets. a suomi iskelmä about having serious issues with boundaries that uses clever finnish and paints a comedic picture of a banged up black-eyed käärijä who has dislocated his shoulder but is still showing thumbs up is like.. so much finnish condensed into three and a half minutes.

i know not everyone thinks the song is hilarious but i do. it's both hilarious and very serious and that's how we like it here.

and of course the fact that there is an "ai vittu" in there. we like that too.

Ominis Gaunt & Sebastian Sallow Modern Day Headcanons

What I imagine the life of the boys is like in modern day, what their interests are, as well as what they would be like in a relationship.

I started playing Hogwarts Legacy and I'm kind of obsessed with Ominis, as someone who has family members who are blind we love representation

Ominis Gaunt

• Knows a bunch of random fun facts

• Some of those about braille!

• He learnt it quite late since his family never took to teaching him and, although yes he can use magic to read, he also likes the option to use braille to read and write

• Would offer to teach you braille, and often shares fun facts about it or the new things he's learnt

• Your parents love him, even though his family may have their own reputation, they know that the last thing he wants to do is follow in their footsteps

• Collects vinyls.

• He doesn't listen to much music, but there are a few artists that he enjoys and he collects their vinyls.

• He prefers using vinyls to anything digital.

• This goes for books too, he prefers something he can hold to something on a screen. (Although he does listen to audiobooks sometimes as that's the easiest way for him to read if not using magic)

• Loves exactly like the men in these books (actually I've only seen a couple, so only the good ones 😭)

• I feel like his parents would've been the type to make him learn to play an instrument, and piano seems very him

• Although (and huge projection here) (this is why it's his last one) I think his blindness is like my grandmother's where he can see light and shadow but everything is just very blurry (kind of like if you wear glasses and they steam up and you can kinda see but also you very much can't), so he can make out shapes and knows if he's going to bump into something, but he can't really make anything out, hence using magic to aid him, so I'm not sure if he would be able to tell the difference with colour or not (my grandmother struggles even though she has some sight) (To add to this he has very bad peripheral vision)

Sebastian Sallow

• He can sing and was a part of a local choir or the Hogwarts choir for a short period. He acts embarrassed if anyone asks about it, or if anyone catches him singing, but he's actually really good!

• He has a playlist dedicated to you, it's either his own music that reminds him of you, or music you both like

• Genuinely likes Buddy Holly by Wheezer (I'm projecting, we will vibe together.)

• His household keeps chickens. He's that one friend who owns chickens. (Anyone else always had that one friend in a group who owns chickens or is that just a me experience?)

• Does not read. "Hey Seb, have you read this book?' no he has not. Do not ask him when the last time he read a book was, you will not like the answer. (Unless it was a school textbook because somehow his grades are still amazing)

• He kinda just listens to anything, like he doesn't have a specific music taste, if he likes a song/artist then he likes them 🤷 (projecting)

• Has a 3 week Minecraft phase at least once a year, he always makes servers but they always die out for some reason

• Speaking of he was 100% a Minecraft kid and 100% had one of those creeper hoodies that zipped up all the way

• Was really good at math and was known as the math kid in his primary school but that kinda faded out when he started at Hogwarts and now he can solve equations really quickly but he doesn't think it's a big deal

• His favorite colour is green or orange

• He may be a bit boisterous, but he is such a gentleman. Before you were dating he was so respectful (and he still is!) and it's not just to you. Before his mother passed she always taught him how to treat women right, and that never faded

• His nicknames for you: Pretty girl, Princess, Love, Beautiful

• I feel like he would learn to play drums

• Although he has big ambitions he always comes to you for advice (or if you don't like giving advice he just sort of tells you what he's gonna do)

• And if you ever tell him he's about to do something really stupid (as in dangerous) he wouldn't hesitate to take your advice because he trusts you

• He was actually really nervous to meet your parents for the first time, but after a few visits he really warmed up to them and now it's like he was always a part of the family

"what video?" you ask, looking from chaeyoung to your other two friends, jena and gayeon. all three looked rather excited espeically considering it was first thing in the morning.

"i took this video of one of my classmates at the dance academy, he's really good and even said he was becoming a trainee soon," jena explained as she moved to show you her phone and the video she had.

she played the video and you watched as the boy in the video danced. you could hear people cheering for him as he danced with the song and you felt completely... awestruck (was that it? yeah, something like that) as you watched him dance. you haven't felt this excited by watching someone dance as when you used to watch yuta dance at sm.

there was just something about him that sparked your interest.

"oh~ looks like y/n's got a crush on mr. dancer," you hear gayeon's teasing voice which snaps you out of your thoughts. you can't help but feel a little flustered at her remark, because maybe she wasn't wrong.

"whatever," you say with a huff, not being able to come up with anything else. your friends can't help but let out a few giggles as jena puts her phone away into her bag.

"he said he would be leaving the academy soon because he was becoming a trainee at a company," jena explained, restating the information chaeyoung had given you earlier.

"what company?" you ask.

"hm, he actually didn't say," she said and you nodded your head. you wonder if it was too late for her to find out.

"uh-oh, girls, she's thinking," chaeyoung says, a teasing tone to her voice. you couldn't help side-eye her, a frown on your face as she couldn't help but smile at your reaction.

"what are you thinking, y/nnie?" jena asked, looking at you with curious eyes.

"i don't know... lately i've been thinking about joining a new company and trying again," you said, finally voicing the thought that has been hovering in your mind for the last few weeks now. you missed it, despite how harsh it was, you really did miss it and the dream of being a singer – an idol, it was still there. you still wanted to pursue that dream. "me and my parents were talking the other day on the phone," you begin, earning the three girls' attention. "my dad said that if i don't find a new company or debut within the next two years then i have to go back to japan."

"what? are you serious?" gayeon asked, shock taking over all three of your friends' faces.

"well, i mean that shouldn't be hard right? i mean basically every company in the country is still trying to recruit you. the news of you leaving sm was pretty big online," chaeyoung said.

"yeah and i've been looking at the options too, but i don't know if any of them have felt right. i don't want to join a company that will make me miserable," you tell them and they nod in agreement, somewhat understanding what you are saying. "jena?" you turn to your friend who looks at you with wide eyes, "do you care to ask your friend what company he's going to?"

"of course!" she says with a smile that you return. before the conversation can continue, the bell rings and your teacher walks into the room, silencing any small talk.

it's a few days later when you receive a text from jena with the information you were looking for.

jena 💕 : i asked my dance friend and he said the company was kq! but he mentioned that he wasn't sure if they were taking female trainees since there were only males at his audition...

you : that's alright! thank you jena 💕

upon looking them up, you found out the kq was a small company, block b had signed to them and that was about all they had related to idols. damn. you were thankful to find out that the company had an email, phone, and address all easily accessible. you didn't want to come across as desperate, but... you were desperate.

"y/n-ah, dinner is ready! come down before it gets cold!" one of your housemates call from downstairs. you were thankful to have found a place after leaving sm, you remember the older trainees being worried about what you would do for dorming, but you assured them you would be fine.

well, in reality you weren't that fine, but you were thankfully that joohyun was able to help find you a place. a residence house that had four other girls living in the house aside from you. three of them in college and one other that was in high school who was a year older than you. joohyun was able to find the place thanks to one of the college girls being friends with her.

you hope you'll be able to pay joohyun back for how much she's helped you after you left. she still tries to check in even with her schedule as an idol.

"y/n-ah!"

"i'm coming!" you shout as you stand up from your desk and make your way downstairs to where the four older girls are already sat down.

"what took you so long, y/nnie?" eunbin, one of the college girls, asked. she was probably the one of the most beautiful women you have ever met. she was the definition of the beauty standard, and not only that but she was also smart and caring. you're surprised she didn't also decide to become an idol or actress, she definitely could make it.

"i was doing some research," you begin and you notice how that catches the oldest girl's, jiwon, attention. she was joohyun's friend as well.

"what kind of research?" nana asked, as she ate a mouthful of rice.

"i was thinking about becoming a trainee again," you said, ripping off the band-aid and just getting the news over with. the four older girls all had the same expression that your school friends had. surprised.

"you are? well, that's great to hear! what company are you looking at?" ami asked, a smile on her face as she did so. ami was always the more positive one out of the group of girls.

"its called kq entertainment, they're a small company, but i want to give it a try. there's just something about it, i want to go and meet the ceo and stuff," you tell them.

"wow, our y/nnie is really serious about this," jiwon said with a laugh.

"i have to be, this is my last chance," you tell them as you look down at your food. knowing that if you don't join this company, you might as well just call it quits.

after you ate dinner and helped nana with cleaning up, you went to shower before you found yourself sitting back in front of your company. a blank email open and the email addresses of kq's ceo and some others sitting in the to portion of the email.

you figured emailing them was a long shot, but it couldn't hurt to try. so you wrote the email, looked over it, before sending it.

now you wait.

it was a week later before you got a response email from your first one. you had been sitting in the living room when your phone pinged with a notification, and almost feel off the couch when you seen it was from kq.

you couldn't help the shake in your hands as you read the email. the people from kq telling you that they were happy that you were interested in you joining and wanted to meet in person to discuss things further.

this didn't feel real.

not when you first read the email, not the twentieth time you read the email, not even when you were walking down the street with jiwon to the company building did you believe it. you couldn't help but laugh as jiwon made a comment about how the company was on top of a 7/11 store. not every company can be like sm.

"i'll let you do the talking, i'm just here for support," she says to you as you all climb the stairs up to the company floor. you appreciate her coming with you, you would have asked yuta or joohyun but you didn't want to bother them anymore than you probably already have.

besides, you also didn't tell them about joining another company. you didn't want to tell too many people in case it didn't work out. the less people who knew, the less disappoint there would be.

you did notice that as you were walking in, a boy around your age was also coming in. he didn't say anything to you or jiwon, as he slipped by the two of you and the front desk. he wasn't the one who went to jena's dance academy, so maybe he's another trainee?

"hello, how can i help you two?" the front desk woman asked. you watched her eyes scan over both you and jiwon, taking in the two of you and your appearances.

"i'm here to have a meeting with the ceo," you said, trying your best to sound as professional and serious as possible. "my name is y/n," you added and the woman looked at you in surprise. like she wasn't expecting you at all. "and this is my guardian, kim jiwon."

"oh, um, of course," the woman said as she started reaching for the phone that was on her desk. "if i can have you sign in here," she says pointing to the sign-in sheet that was between the two of you. "i'll let mr. kim know you're here."

you looked at jiwon with a smile and a thumbs-up and she return the smile with her own along with a look that said 'wow, look at you girl.' you couldn't help but wonder if this is what happens when people know your name.

a few minutes later and the man you recognize as ceo kim comes from around the corner. from where that boy had disappeared down. he greets both you and jiwon with a smile before he's leading the two of you down the hallway and to a conference room.

"i have to say that me and the rest of the staff here were surprised when we received your email," he explains to you. "i didn't think you would be interested in wanting to join a small company like kq, but i will say that it is an honor."

"i'm glad that you are considering me as well, i was worried that maybe you would turn me away since i heard you didn't have any female trainees."

"well to be honest, we don't have that many trainees to begin with. for the last six months we only had one trainee and just recently we did gain a second one," he explains and you were a little shocked to find out that the company only had two trainees so far. you figured they would have at least a few more.

when you enter the conference room, ceo kim is joined with a few other higher up staff that you can't really remember the names of right now. they sat on one side of the long conference table while you and jiwon sat on the other side.

they talked about a few other things, stuff you had already either known or heard before. after all, at the end of the day, it was all the same.

and before you knew it, they were sliding your trainee contract across the table for you to sign. picking the pen up, you go to sign it, but jiwon stops you. her hand resting on your to get your attention.

"unnie?" you ask, looking at you and waiting for her to talk.

"are you sure you want to become a trainee again?" she asks and for a moment the question catches you off guard. and then you couldn't help but let her question sink in for a moment.

did you want to become a trainee again? was all of this worth becoming an idol? a singer?

"i'm sure, unnie," you tell her with a smile, she moves her hand away before returning your smile.

and so you sign the contract.

"and this is our dance studio," a staff member said showing you and jiwon where you would be practicing. the frosted door made it hard to see inside, but you could hear the music playing from inside the room.

"can we go in?" you ask, curious to see the other trainees that were here at the company. the staff member nodded his head before opening the door and you immediately peeked inside to see a familiar figure dancing as music blasted throughout the practice room.

it was the guy from jena's dance academy. he was a lot taller in person, the video not doing his height or talent any justice. he was good. the trainee turned to see you, jiwon, and the staff member all at the door and he hurriedly went over to pause the music.

"hello," he said bowing to you three and you returned the gesture. he had to be around your age, his boyish features showing despite his height.

"ah, yunho, sorry to disturb you," the staff member began saying, "i was just showing y/n around the company. she'll start training with us officially next week."

"oh a new trainee?" the trainee, yunho, said as a smile grew along his features. for some reason you couldn't help but compare him to a puppy. a giant puppy.

you and yunho then made eye contact and you think his smile grew wider, gosh what was with this guy, and why was your heart beat picking up?

"it's nice to meet you, i'm yunho," he says to you and you nod.

"i'm y/n, nice to meet you too," you replied back, doing your best not to stumble over your words.

"if you need anything, just let me know," he says, "it's only me, you, and hongjoong-hyung right now, so lets help each other, okay?" hongjoong-hyung? was that the guy you saw when you came in earlier?

"alright," you say before the staff member is gaining your attention and motioning to lead you out of the practice room to let yunho go back to his dancing.

however, before the door was fully closed, you heard yunho shout, "bye, y/n-ah, see you next week!"

yapping about my song choices/reasonings for way too long under the cut

ok as a preamble a lot of my song choices here are for the interpretation that NULL is a real person trapped inside the game, which for some reason seems to be a controversial take for some people from what I've seen, so I feel the need to explain why I think that (also i'm just using this as an excuse to infodump lol). skip this next paragraph for the song reasonings if you dgaf

so basically i've seen a lot of people being like "UM well NULL licherally says he ISN'T a person trapped in a game, so of course he isn't, duhhhh 🤓" which. I don't wanna be too harsh considering how much of this game's fanbase is literal children but characters are in fact capable of being untruthful. the way I see it the fact that NULL randomly says apropo of nothing "oh nooo I'm TOTALLY not a real person trapped in a game haha, that'd be RIDICULOUS lol" (suspiciouslyspecificdenial tvtropes dot com) immediately followed by explaining that he "can't talk normally" and has to be "vague intentionally" because "some stuff is classified" combined with other hints he gives of his speech being censored by the game in later dialogue makes it clear that he obviously can't directly say what he is. the fact that he's using reverse psychology to get around the game's censorship seems pretty clear to me. (there's also the specific word choice of him calling the idea of being trapped inside a game "ridiculous" when he also describes himself as "ridiculous" earlier in his monologue but that's a bit of a stretch lol). The lake image clearly showing NULL standing by a lake in the real world is another obvious hint to NULL originally being a real person as well. his pain is neverending LOLLLLLLL (this isn't shitting on ppl who have different interpretations of NULL obviously!!! in his own words he's "vague intentionally". this is just my thoughtz :3)

any version of this song probably would have worked but I chose the N0THANKY0U remix for the compressed sound which seemed the most fitting. the themes of grief could tie into NULL's longing for his old life but I mainly chose it for these lyrics which are very NULLcore methinks

sakusa is at onigiri miya, seated at the bar beside suna, osamu preparing orders on the other side of the counter. he stares at his future brother-in-law, in disbelief at his request. "why does it have to be me?" he asks. "why can't you do it?"

"it's because 'samu breaks down laughing every time," suna says. "also, he sucks at it."

"and," osamu adds, "it's mariah carey. i ain't signin' those lyrics ta my twin."

"have you considered a different song that doesn't address an object of affection?"

"it'd be funny, 'specially if yer doin' it!"

sakusa takes a contemplative sip of tea. this is his first year celebrating with the miya family, which apparently takes christmas very seriously, since it includes a mandatory performance of a holiday song.

"'tsumu hates doin' it." osamu shapes rice in his hands. "he threw a huge tantrum when we were kids, an' after that, he never participated. he just sits there without his hearin' aids. s'why we were surprised that he's bringin' ya home this year."

"it's because my parents and siblings are overseas." that explains why they've never celebrated with osamu and suna, despite how much atsumu values his family.

"apparently, 'tsumu got ya a pass, sayin' we shouldn't scare ya with our freaky traditions, but it'd be fun if ya joined in," osamu tells him. "whaddaya say?"

the irony of atsumu having his audiology appointment at this very moment isn’t lost to sakusa. he takes an onigiri. “to reiterate, you want me to learn, memorize, and perform a jsl version of mariah carey’s all i want for christmas is you in two weeks?”

“yup.”

“you’re ridiculous. i’ll do it.”

osamu smirks. “glad ta have ya onboard. happy ta supply ya with all the umeboshi onigiri ya want.”

“we might be on holiday break, but i still have to watch my diet.” his phone goes off out of the corner of his eye. sakusa glances at the notification. “atsumu just finished his check-up. no change in his hearing loss.”

“isn’t that the greatest present of them all?” suna remarks, only half-sarcastic. sakusa and osamu nod in agreement.

that night, sakusa watches the video that suna sent him. fortunately, the translated lyrics are in the description, which he follows while listening, and afterwards, he slowly signs each word to get a feel for the rhythm. he’s watched sign language covers of songs before. surely he could pull it off?

the bathroom door opens, and atsumu sits on the couch beside him. sakusa has closed the video, reading an article instead, glancing over when atsumu taps his shoulder. “what are you reading?” he signs.

“motoya sent me an article about volleyball-related head injuries. he must be talking to himself,” sakusa says and signs. atsumu’s eyes crinkle in silent laughter, leaning against him while going on his phone.

two weeks isn’t a lot of time to practice, but sakusa makes it work. osamu and suna help by distracting (terrorizing, really) atsumu, dragging him away to buy presents, taste-test dishes, and playing holiday songs through his hearing aids via bluetooth. it makes him grouchy, but sakusa cuddles him until his tension melts away.

finally, it’s time to drive to the twins’ childhood home in hyogo. sakusa and atsumu decorate while osamu and suna cook, and on christmas eve, he meets the extended miya family, cousins, aunts, and uncles that he only heard in passing. he’s introduced as atsumu’s partner, bowing politely with his arms by his side. no one tries for a handshake; he gives his partner a grateful look, who smiles back in response.

christmas day is lively, with cousins running amok, aunts in the kitchen with osamu, and uncles shoveling snow outside. sakusa finds himself surrounded by the smallest cousins, who hang off his long limbs and squeal when he folds his hands to his wrists. an aunt herds them into the kitchen for a snack, giving him the chance to escape upstairs for a break.

atsumu joins him a few minutes later. “everything okay?” sakusa asks, knowing how easily overwhelmed his partner can get.

“yeah. i’ll get a break durin’ the singin’ tonight.” atsumu sits beside him, knees knocking together. “i don’t like listenin’, but watchin’ is fun, i guess.”

dinner is extravagant and rowdy, and soon enough, everyone is squished into the living room for the yearly tradition, an uncle mc’ing the event like a televised singing contest.

they sit together, atsumu without his hearing aids, hands held over his lap. cousins, aunts, and uncles sing to music playing from the speakers, the audience singing along. the smallest children hide behind their older siblings, most sing their hearts out; a few aloof ones mouth the words, cheeks bright red with embarrassment. their parents laugh, phones out to take pictures and record videos.

“next, we got osamu an’ suna,” the uncle announces. “with a special guest, sakusa-kun!”

“time ta do this.” osamu jumps to his feet, suna already plugging the aux cord into his phone. sakusa pulls away from atsumu, who grabs him in alarm, eyes wide. “omi, what are ya–“

he places a finger to his lips, silencing him. then, with his other hand, he signs, “watch.” standing, he joins the pair in front of the tv, their makeshift stage, impossibly tall among the seated audience. however, he only has eyes on one person.

the music starts, which elicits a few hoots. osamu and suna start singing, and sakusa as well, with his hands raised. instead of the exaggerated movements that the pair make on either side of him, his gestures are more deliberate, precise. no one understands them, at least not at his pace, and it might even look comedic.

sakusa doesn’t care. all he sees is atsumu and his reaction.

realization gradually creeps onto him. his eyes widen, mouth falling open. as the song goes on, his lips twist into a grin, hands pressed together in front of him gleefully.

“all i want for christmas is you,” sakusa sings, ending his sign with a flourish. cheers roar as osamu and suna bow, a few whistling between their teeth.

he catches osamu’s eye, who nods at him, and sakusa turns toward atsumu, who is pushing through the crowd. panic flares, and he gives chase. “wait, atsumu!”

he catches him upstairs. atsumu is opening his hearing aid case, roughly shoving one of them in his ear, suppressing a hiss when he winces. sakusa touches his arm, feels him flinch, head flying upwards, freezing when their eyes meet. “let me,” he says, signing along. atsumu lowers his hand, lets sakusa put them in. after a beat, they turn on. “atsumu–“

“did ‘samu ask ya ta do this?” atsumu doesn’t look at him, voice tight, hands braced on the table.

“yes. i’m sorry, i thought it’d be funny, and–“

“i ain’t mad. how can i? ya…” the crack in his voice is slight, but the tear that rolls down his cheek is not. “ya learned jsl fer me, an’ then ya signed an entire song fer me fer as a joke. it ain’t a joke ta me, ya hear? i…”

he lifts his head, eyes brimming with tears. “ya signed mariah carey,” he chokes out. “ya signed those lyrics ta me. joke or not, that means somethin’, doesn’t it?”

“of course it does.” sakusa steps toward him, wraps him in a hug. “i meant every single sign. i want you, and everything your family offers, freaky traditions or not. i’ll keep saying it every time you need to hear it – sign is just another way to communicate. i’ll do whatever it takes for me to understand you.”

atsumu sobs into his shoulder. sakusa strokes his hair, whispers into his ear, clear as the falling snow outside. “i love you, atsumu. thank you for bringing me to your home this year.”
