Random Pokemon Rant (about Kanto remakes and the dex)

So, ultimately, I did like Let’s Go, especially the unique following animations, and I’m very happy that I got to finally ride my own pokemon; though I don’t think Kanto was a good region for that feature, simply because there’s not a lot of good places to ride certain pokemon (like Rapidash and Arcanine), some places are just too narrow. And the flying mounts like Charizard and Dragonite, I was disappointed you couldn’t have them fly you around all of Kanto and were still restricted to the routes and towns. Probably would’ve been a better feature in SwSh, specifically the Wild Areas. 

Anyway! That’s not what this is about, its more about a growing frustration that they never want to change things up with Kanto, specifically in dex. 

FRLG, I was confused why I couldn’t get Crobat until post game. Or evolve Onix into Steelix. Or why I couldn’t get Espeon or Umbreon with my Eevee. I guess it was to secure that nothing changed but it was still very odd to me. 

Then HGSS came out, and they included the Sinnoh evolutions, and you could get them before the national dex, which was much appreciated. 

So Let’s Go announced as another Kanto remake, I was expecting to go in with an updated dex, or at least being allowed to get the evolutions from other generations. But nope. You can’t get Crobat at all. You can’t ride a Steelix (yet unless there is going to be a Jhoto Let’s Go?) or Rhyperior. You can’t have Scizor following you. 

And I just really wonder, why are they so persistent in not updating the dex and allowing us to get these evolutions? Even HGSS allowed it. Why, Let’s Go was willing to allow the inclusion of the Alolan forms and the new typings that were added in later. Why not include the other evolutions at all??? 

And then the nonexistent post game... 

As nostalgic as Kanto is, honestly it’s one of the more boring regions to return to. We got three generations of it and nothing new to it. You don’t have to add spice to the story itself, but Kanto really needs something to spice it up. If nothing is to be changed in the main game, ok fine. Then spice it up in the post game. How about letting us explore the Jhoto region, and seeing it two years prior the GSCHGSS games. They really made it an issue for themselves to reveal that Jhoto and Kanto are connected so every time you play a Kanto game, you really got to wonder, why can’t I travel to the Jhoto region? 

Maybe this will be a fic idea I’ll tackle some time, but what if you decided “you know what, I want to be as far away from Blue as possible. I’d rather go and do the League in a different region than have to deal with my bully anymore.” And you’re off to Jhoto to start your own adventure! Something really new!

That’s actually a really exciting and intriguing idea cause, how different is Jhoto two years prior? We get to see Kanto two years later, so why not see Jhoto two years prior? And with them confirming they are connected, this technically means we could’ve always had an option to pick what region we’d want to start our adventure in. 

Anyway, I just wanted to rant and ramble because I’m a little frustrated that they never want to change anything up with Kanto, not even in terms of just including canon evolutions that we should be allowed to get if we want them. Didn’t Go at the time even have the Jhoto mons so they could’ve been included? 

I don’t know about you guys but... the reluctance to updating Kanto or doing anything new with it, and getting a 3rd visit to it that doesn’t truly update anything outside graphics; its really making Kanto lackluster. And feel old because they don’t want to really update or change anything (like allowing the evolutions the Kanto mons should have). 

It’s kind of tiring to think about.
