There's no mission—he's just mad that the protagonist seems to have a halo and is taking his stuff, a.k.a. the legendary artifacts from him a thousand years ago that he wants back, dammit.

He proceeds to fix the ungifted body he's now in, restore his cultivation, all while vibing with the young master and teasing the young master whom he finds hilariously adorable.
