I hope this is okay to send, I just wanted to say re: the Chappell Roan anon, I don't think it's very fair to say Chappell is about "trashing men" or saying it would've been better for women to date other women instead of men. A bunch of Chappell's songs are literally about her own ex boyfriend - any other female artist is allowed to make songs about ex boyfriends without it being an issue. Why is it different for Chappell?
Personally, I love Chappell. She uses her voice for so much good, she's an incredible show woman, and her voice is beautiful. I'm sorry that other people don't feel like they can relate to her, but not every lesbian has the same story and not every lesbian artist can represent EVERY lesbian, because we're all different with our own different experiences.
Chappell makes me feel represented as a highly feminine woman who loves other highly feminine women. She makes me feel like it's okay to not be attracted to men or to masculinity in general (I mean this with respect and no hate at all to the masc-alligned lesbians out there btw, you guys are very cool! I just am not attracted to masc-ness, personally). As the admin/s said, there's nothing wrong with liking men or having liked them in the past! But there's also nothing wrong with NOT liking them and never having liked them, and it's been amazing for me to see someone like Chappell, LIKE ME, in mainstream music and doing so well.
This is absolutely okay to send in! I've never listened to Chappell Roan's music nor have I ever heard of her before this so I have no horse in this race and I think your and the other anons experiences and pov's are both valid and yours to have and share. (I will maybe ask for this to be the last ask in relation to her however since this blog is for fem f/o's and not discussing musicians ๐Ÿฉท)
You make some good points here though, not every artist or public figure can represent everyone under their label as we're all different and that's why I definitely encourage the other anon to maybe seek out other artists they can relate too and enjoy and see themself in like you can see yourself in Chappell Roan! And your last point is very true too, if your personal experience is having never liked men ever that's totally awesome and fine as well!
I don't think the other anon was coming from a place of malice when talking about Chappell Roan though I do want to say that, feelings and insecurities around identity can be really strong and when you maybe listen to the wrong song by the wrong artist on the wrong day it can make you feel a type of way and as long as it's not directed at the artist I think it's okay to vent the feelings that come from it in a safe environment. But your defense of her is also completely valid since she's obviously had a very positive impact on you in comparison and it's lovely when you can find a musician you relate to!
Anyway thank you for sharing your point of view! ๐Ÿฉท
