Done all 30 episodes. I have so many questions about the theme of this drama. I think if the whole theme of replacing memories could be executed more intricately the drama would probably be more interesting. It is a missed opportunity for them to not touch on how Qi Lian overcome the tipping point and eventually understand that he has to accept the reality that he indirectly caused the death of his friend. Although it would be great for certain memories to be erased for us to move forward, I do think memories are not just brain. I remember reading about heart memory from a transplant donor in an article. It is still something that's like an uncharted territory and full of mystery at this point. For example, do you think it's possible to transfer/transplant our consciousness into another body? That's how I think of memories. It is not something that can be replaced and removed because it is connected to our soul. That's why no matter how our brain suppressed memories in order to protect us emotionally, it will not be like that forever. There's an actual condition where people getting overwhelmed and shocked from memories resurfacing.
I find it a bit ridiculous from scientific pov to gain a skill from a dream - Qi Lian being able to cook cause he brings food for Xu Jingyan everyday and Jiang Xianyao understanding about human anatomy because she learns sculpturing from her replaced memories. I mean yeah sure convenient as heck, but is it going to work tho? I don't think so. Having a knowledge of something is one thing. But being able to act on the knowledge? That requires a certain part of brain to be triggered and it's definitely not something that could be magically be there just from a dream.
Anyway, Qi Lian and Jiang Xianyao is hella cute. I saw so many people say the ML is a bit of red flag. I mean what he feels is kind of warranted and it tallies to his original personality of not giving a fuck about anyone who's not of his concerns. While I understand that a lot of the story revolves around Jiang Xianyao's hardships, I was looking forward to see more of her life ie like how she stalks Ruirui's bf and claimed him lol. I friggin love that Ruirui don't even care about the dude, she was just bitter because Xianyao's leave her without saying anything. Like I can see there's a lot of things that could be panned out towards her, which can be extended beyond make up artist, salon and her replaced memories.
I dislike how they make Fan Xiaoxiao a villain and eventually just ended it with her having paranoid delusion and schizophrenia?? Throughout the drama there was no indication at all that she's schizophrenic. It's like an easy way out to finally piece together yeah man she's the villain. I still don't get it how she was affected by the failed experiment and what kind of desperation that have pushed her towards the edge which finally triggered her mental health issues. This is something that the drama should have built up instead of spending a lot of time on the chip and Xu Jingyan's unfathomable death?? Especially since a point was made that the experiment started to heal people's mental health.
The drama is OK. I mean I finished everything in 2.5 days. It's a bit all over the place but it wasn't too bad. I do think I might have passed it up if it doesn't have that Lighthouse System background story. It's not too heavy on Sci-Fi and thank god, it's not about time travelling because if it's, it will be too complicated having to deal with time paradox, parallel universe AND romance at the same time. The romance, sci-fi division is about 60-40?? Something like that. To me it's more romance than sci-fi.
