COPPING LOCKDOWN
Besides spending half of our day on zoom app attending classes, meetings and webinars we still seem to have a lot of time in our hands most days people would go out to restaurants, parks, malls and movie theaters but admist this global pandemic we are all trapped inside our homes with not much to do. most of us slept half of the lockdown away but even that seems boring now. So here are a small list of things people are doing to keep them busy and cope with staying at home all day.
 1) FOLLOWING FITNESS ROUTINES/ CHALLENGES
All of us had a picture of our dream body in our heads and we promised ourselves to achieve that but we never had enough time to go to gym daily or even do some exercises inside our houses. But guess what time is all we have now and getting into shape might be the best thing you can do in this lockdown.

2) LEARNING HOW TO COOK
I can safely say that most of us want to eat healthy everyday but we cant because we dont know how to cook and at the end of the day we are too tired to even try to cook something for ourselves and nine out of ten times would prefer getting a takeout.
Now is the perfect time to lear that basic life skill that is important for survival. Make tasty dishes and upload then on your social handles to blow people’s mind away.

3) LEARNING TO PLAY INSTRUMENTS
Take a look at that guitar sitting at the end of your room untouched for what seems to be years now. Look up tutorials or basic lessons on youtube and you’ll find thousands of them, take half an hour out of your life daily and learn that instrument you wanted to but never had the time for.
People are coming out of quarantine with glow ups,new set of skills and hobbies because we will never get this much free time for the rest of our lives.

Olafur Eliasson
Of all the artists that I was recomended during the catch up session this artist stood out the most to me. I find his works are imaginative, experimental and engaging.
Going back to imagination:
https://www.olafureliasson.net
Work of his especially stood out to me. I felt that I could relate to the work so much for two main reasons; one, he created this during a time we have all recently have had to go through, isolation, and two, the work reminds me of my high school science classes. I was especially drawn to his opening line in the video, “I’m very drawn to the imaginary”, I too am drawn to it, it was how I learnt throughout school, its how I understand, even basic everyday interactions with people. You tell me about you day and I immediately imagine how it happened in my head, following along with you as you describe what you got up to for instance.
Re-thinking Scale:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your Double-Lighthouse Projection, 2002. 3630 × 11540 × 6300 mm

I absolutely installations, especially ones that are big and you can move around and in and out of and this work challenges me in the scale of light, colour and shadows I want to work with. Hence why I decided to construct a frame that was larger in scale than the average canvas scale I work with. Yes I might be working in a small space which will impact the scale of my work but I cant still work with a scale that fills the space I’m working in to a good amount.
Light, colour & shadows:

Your uncertain shadow (colour), 2010.

This work is so intriguing! I found an explaination but the explaination only left me feeling more curious as to how the whole thing works:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiXwM23t8bpAhVBIbcAHcfuA8oQFjACegQIDhAF&url=https%3A%2F%2Folafureliasson.net%2Farchive%2Fartwork%2FWEK101391%2Froom-for-all-colours&usg=AOvVaw19Z6MrbE1lBT3nXIh-_lvU
I however, want to create interesting shadows like this too with what I’m doing and so Eliasson seems to be the artist from all the artists recomended to me that really stands out.

Sex Sells Phanesia Pharel
Sexuality is so personal to many of us and I feel the best way to respond to this week is in the natural note form I absorbed and thought of the media. At the end I may have a few coherent sentences as a closing.
ALEX QUESTIONS-
What defines the identity of self?
skin/hair/magazines/media/family/community/partners/self esteem/confidence.
For me it is everything from my homeland to my mother to every person who has called me ugly or beautiful. Every man who has touched me to every book I’ve read.
Is the sexual self a separate identity?
In this society? I think not. We are forced to glue the two together and psychologically we just cant separate the two. Even when professionally branding ourselves...sexual identity is included.
Performance commercialize identity?
YES! Water is wet!!!!
commercialize/exploit/pick apart/destroy
Ellen degeneres!
HELEN OF TROY-
Calls herself meat/we see what they sell.
What if what you have to sell isnt valued?
What if sex is PAINFUL for you?
“Nothing is more opaque than absolute transparency”-anytime we offer our full selves the reaction is so far off from meeting at the middle (like that black mirror episode).
WOMEN CHOOSING HOW/WHY THEY ARE SEXUAL IS AN ACT OF REBELLION.
BRAVE NEW WORLD-
1. I’m shaking.
2.  A dab of the toxicity of masculinity and sexualizing young women.
3. We are taught how to enjoy sex-not just in dystopian societies.
KATY PERRY-
At first- maybe katy learned her lesson after stealing from queer and black women? Maybe this is about objectification?-NOPE....i cant even say I’m disappointed.
-Cornrows? Girl if you don’t.... (Happy they got cut off because I was about to..)
-Am I conservative for not thinking she’s doing this to empower herself but to save her failing career?
ARTIC MONKEYS-
-Kinda rapey, next.
REAL SEX TIPS-
-This goes off!
-Too close to home, kinda reminds me of myself and my experiences.
-SAY CLITOROUS LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!
-YES LOVING YOURSELF IS A DANCE!!!!!!
-Wow women taking bodies back!
remind me of my favorite TED TALK.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiIuvfn5MPWAhXjCsAKHUENDPoQtwIIJjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ted.com%2Ftalks%2Fpeggy_orenstein_what_young_women_believe_about_their_own_sexual_pleasure&usg=AFQjCNEoiECKVN-pUJ4fsjoiWZGfWw0NTA
We need to talk about why/how sex is enjoyed by women and why that is and why our bodies are literal props. Back to the oppressive male gaze I guess.
