Webcomic Day Rec List
Admittedly I'm not up to speed as I used to be with webcomics, but since it's Webcomic Day, I'll compile a list of stuff here. Everything here should be free to read online in one form or another, but obviously if you can tip folks, use subscription services, support patreons, or just buy ebook and/or physical copies to support the artists/writers, that's awesome!
Complete comics
Two Rooks by Alice Fox (complete, can purchase the whole series as a PDF on Fox's store):
A sort of post-apocalyptic story set in a world where a pandemic ripped cities apart, and put the government in the hands of various criminal organizations. Stars a queer protagonist on a quest to maybe assassinate someone, maybe figure out a mystery, maybe both. It's got political thriller, flirting, gunfights, and suspicious friendships, and it's overall really great.
Check Please! by Ngozi Ukazu (complete, you can purchase it as an ebook or a physical copy)
"Eric Bittle may be a former junior figure skating champion, vlogger extraordinaire, and very talented amateur pâtissier, but being a freshman on the Samwell University hockey team is a whole new challenge. It is nothing like co-ed club hockey back in Georgia! First of all? Thereâs checking (anything that hinders the player with possession of the puck, ranging from a stick check all the way to a physical sweep). And then, there is Jackâhis very attractive but moody captain."
Inverloch by Sarah Ellerton (complete):
"The story of Inverloch centers around a young man named Acheron, from a horned wolf-like race called the da'kor. After becoming enamoured with an elven girl, he finds himself setting out on a seemingly innocent mission - that of trying to locate Kayn'dar, her childhood friend who has been missing for the past twelve years.
Meeting up with new friends and companions along the way, he quickly begins to learn that the world is not quite the peaceful place he believed it to be - embroiled with prejudice, racial segregation, and hidden danger. And the truth behind Kayn'dar's disappearance is something none of the party would ever expect..."
The Phoenix Requiem by Sarah Ellerton (complete):
"On a cold December night, a gentleman stumbles into the town of Esk, gunshot wounds leaving a trail of blood in the snow behind him. Despite making a full recovery at the hands of an inexperienced nurse - and deciding to make a new life for himself in the town - he is unable to escape the supernatural beings, both good and bad, that seem to follow him like shadows.
As they try to discover why, the nurse must question her beliefs and risk her own life in order to protect her family, her friends, and those that she loves."
The Sword Interval by Benjamin Fleuter (complete)
"The Sword Interval is about a world on the verge of a supernatural apocalypse. Most of humanity goes about their daily lives trying to ignore the constant threat of magic and monsters, but a few face these dangers head-on. Fall is one such person. She has left behind the sheltered safety of the paranormal witness protection program in order to hunt down the monster that killed her family."
A great science fantasy apocalyptic webcomic.
ONGOING WEBCOMICS
My S-Class Hunters by geunseo, adapted by seri, with art by biwan
"Yoojin is an F-ranker overshadowed by his little brother, an S-ranker. All he does is get in his brotherâs way, causing trouble wherever he goes. When a seemingly routine dungeon raid goes wrong and costs Yoojin his brotherâs life, Yoojin decides to use the wish granted by clearing the dungeon to reset his timeline. The plan was to lead a quiet life from now on⌠but now it turns out he can help other people become S-rankers?! Maybe this is Yoojinâs chance at building his own entourage of powerful metahumans⌠but it may be easier said than done."
An absolutely phenomenal manhwa, entirely free to read in English on Webtoon. Some of the latest episodes are paywalled, but each week a new one comes out of paywall, so there's no rush if you just want to go the free route. Also on Tappytoon! The book it's based on is absolutely amazing as well: the main story is complete at 870 chapters, which was revised into 35 ebooks with added scenes, and is available to read in Korean on Ridibooks, munpia, and Naver. The sequel/Side Story is available in Korean on Naver, as it the manhwa.
Omniscient Reader by singNsong, adapted by UMI, art by Sleepy-C (volumes 1-2 are available to order in English, and volumes 3-4 are available for pre-order)
"Dokja was an average office worker whose sole interest was reading his favorite web novel 'Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse.' But when the novel suddenly becomes reality, he is the only person who knows how the world will end. Armed with this realization, Dokja uses his understanding to change the course of the story, and the world, as he knows it."
Another absolutely phenomenal manhwa, entirely free to read in English on Webtoon. It's beautiful, funny, sad, angsty, with great world-building and wonderful characters, and the book it's based on is amazing: the revision is complete at 551 chapters, available in Korean on Munpia, and the sequel/Side Story is on-going.
The Glass Scientists by S. H. Cotugno (you can order volume 1, and volume 2 is up for pre-order)
"London isnât the safest place for mad scientists these days. After that whole ordeal with Frankenstein, angry mobs have gotten awfully good at hunting down monsters and wiping out anything they donât understand. In fact, if it werenât for one extraordinary young man, every out-of-the-box thinker would have been locked up . . . or worse.
That young man is none other than Dr. Henry Jekyll. He believes mad scientists would thrive if they could just fix their public image, which is why he founded the Society for Arcane Sciences, a place where like-minded eccentrics could come together to defy the laws of nature in peace.
But everything changes when a mysterious stranger arrives, bent on taking the Society in a radical new direction. With everyone turning against him, Jekyllâs life starts to spiral out of control, shattering all his carefully laid plans and threatening to expose his darkest secretâone that could destroy everything he has built from the inside out."
A wonderfully queer science fantasy retelling of some famous classics, and it's free to read in English online. The art is gorgeous, the characters are fun, and the story is great.
Bicycle Boy by Jackarais (you can buy PDFs on their store)
"Bicycle Boy is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure comic by Jackarais.
Our protagonist--a cyborg who calls himself 'Poet'--cannot recall anything before the day he woke up in the middle of the desert, surrounded by corpses.
With no memories, no purpose and no idea what the hell is going on, he sets out to find answers."
Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe (available to purchase as a physical book in lots of places)
"Witness what the gods doâŚafter dark. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods arenât so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Stylish and immersive, this is one of mythologyâs greatest stories -- The Taking of Persephone -- as itâs never been told before."
A really fun modern science fantasy play with lots of Greek mythology, with a focus on Persephone and Hades and navigating complex relationships, worker rights, and trauma. The art is beautiful, and it's free to read entirely online.
Shot and Chaser by E.K. (you can support E.K. on Patreon)
"SHOT AND CHASER is a story about storms. Esoteric lifemates Tre and Olly set out together and experience a literal whirlwind of a day in the Texas panhandle."
They also have an nsfw side comic with the protagonists that you can purchase digitally called Sweet Abilene.
Partially free/paid webcomics
ENNEAD by Mojito (all the different ways to read, including a guide for the free options; currently available in physical release to varying extent in Korean, Taiwanese, English, German, Italian, and Japanese)
"The once peaceful land of Egypt has been stained with blood under the tyrannical rule of Seth, the god of war. Horus, son of the god Isis but not yet one himself, rises to challenge the throne and put an end to the chaos and destruction. Although the confrontation between Seth and Horus began with hatred, in time it becomes blurred by obsession and desire... The ancient mythology of Egypt comes to life as you've never seen it before in this compelling fantasy BL."
An absolutely wonderful boys love webcomic using ancient Egyptian mythology, that tackles a lot of neat themes, with wonderful characters and a great story.

Conor had dismounted and Rhiannonâs eyes widened as she realized two men were hefting the body of a man in their arms. A dead man, Rhiannon realized as her eyes fell on the rope around the manâs neck. Bruises littered the manâs body and dried blood covered his wounds.
The muscles in Conorâs neck had tightened as he hurried over to the two villagers. Brynn dismounted, Finn and Rhiannon following. Rhiannon hung back from the disturbing sight of the manâs mutilated body as they drew closer.
âRi Conor,â the older looking of the two villagers said with a solemn nod as Conor came to stand before them.
âWhat happened?â Conor asked, his jaw clenched.
âOthoâs men came through last night,â the man answered. âThey demanded to know the whereabouts of The Hunter. When no one would tell them, they hanged Fergal after beating him senseless. Took his wife and daughter to Clogwyn for Spirits knows what.â
A hard look came into Conorâs eyes and he took a deep breath before he responded. âI will not forget the loyalty and the sacrifice of the people of Sruth when this conflict is over.â
Conor beckoned for Finn to come help with the body and as he stepped forward to join Conor, Rhiannon felt her stomach turn, her eyes locked on the body of the dead man. Fergal, she reminded herself as she stared at the heavy bruising around his neck, who had a wife and daughter.
âExcuse me,â Rhiannon mumbled before she backed away from the horses.
She made it to the side of the road, stumbling through the fallen snow before she dropped to her knees and retched. Her whole body shook and tears streamed from her eyes as she squeezed them shut. How long had she believed Steliosâ lies and justifications while others suffered at Kelnoreâs hands?

ABOUT ME
Hachi ⨠20 ⨠She/Her ⨠đľđ ⨠INFJ 6w5
Hello, Iâm Hachi! I'm a full-time freelance illustrator on Fiverr, and I hopefully plan to branch out in other artistic areas in my life! Expect me to dump all of my artistic interests over here : #hachichiart
I also have a childrenâs picture e-book that I self-published on Amazon. I made it as a requirement for my high school thesis, so while the art there is definitely a representation of my past, I still stand by the message I was trying to send. I hope to eventually branch out this series in a form of a webcomic of sorts, for people who canât afford to purchase my e-book for financial reasons. These characters are extremely dear to me, and I canât wait to expound on them when I have the time lmao. Hereâs a tag regarding the series: #behindtheartistichand
Some note-worthy things to mention, this blog is generally 15+, but I do make sure to tag any NSFW content and general triggers out there. I often post and retweet adult animation, so Iâd say tread carefully if youâre a minor. Iâm also critical with the media I consume, but most of the time, I like to talk about why I like something rather than why I hate it. I just find it more fun to expound on the positives of my favorite things. I also donât take everything seriously.
Please let me know privately if I did or say anything wrong. Sometimes I say things without meaning to, and Iâm not the brightest crayon in the box, so constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. If you take offense with anything I posted, just send a polite DM and explain why it offended you so I can be educated regarding the subject. Iâm also available for any questions, DMs and a genuine chit-chat.

Hex Life edited by Christopher Golden & Rachel Autumn Deering
Eighteen tales of witches and magic all written by women. A few are set in particular authorsâ existing series. The inclusiveness of black characters and authors elevates an already wonderful collection. This is an ARC that was received late, contained in the box of books due to be published in January. This actually was published in October and is available now. I highly recommend this to pretty much anyone. 4.5 out of 5.
âAn Invitation to a Burningâ by Kat Howard
The town of Merrinvale refuses to admit that witches are needed to keep ordinary magics working. Instead they burn them. When villager Ronald angrily takes offense to a woman, she tends to disappear. Now his sight is focused on Sage. Very short, but chock full of emotion and sisterhood. 4.5 out of 5.
âWidowsâ Walkâ by Angela Slatter
The four widows living together on Carter Lane are suspected to be witches by many in the town of Mercyâs Brook, but are not harassed by locals. When young Chelsea Margaret Bloom is caught stealing milk from their porch to dull her hunger, the women get involved. Absolutely perfect from start to finish, with a neat twist at the end. 5 out of 5.
âBlack Magic Momma: An Otherworld Storyâ by Kelley Armstrong
Eve Levine is a dark witch who is half-demon. Her sole focus in life is keeping her daughter safe. To do so, she works as a retrieval agent, obtaining items wanted by others. Her latest job attracts dangerous attention. Iâve not read any books in this series yet, although the first volume is in my ebook library. I found this story moderately interesting, but not quite up to the previous two stories in this series. Perhaps it in a matter of context. 3.5 out of 5.
âThe Night Nurseâ by Sarah Langan
Having a third child that she never wanted, Esme is approached by Wendy Broadchurch at the Brooklyn Childrenâs Museum. Wendy is a night nurse, offering to help Esme once the new baby is born. Already overwhelmed, Esme agrees. At first she is happy, but soon doubts creep in. Really creepy and, to be honest, a little more raw than I was comfortable with. 3 out of 5.
âThe Memories of Treesâ by Mary SanGiovanni
The Faithful plan to hang Martha Weede and her young ward, Ellena, threatened by their refusal to worship in the New Church and to accept the God of Technology. Instead Martha and Ellena honor the Old Religion, the one older than the now fallen Christianity. While graphic, it not only harks back to the witch hunts in New England, but warns how easy it is to fall back into that mindset of fear, prejudice, and craving for power. Loved this story! 4.5 out of 5.
âHome:Â A Morganville Vampire Storyâ by Rachel Caine
A witch has appeared in Morganville, one Oliver had killed centuries ago. Sheâs a danger to both the vampire and human community. She wants Oliverâs blood and will destroy everyone to get it. Wow, how did I miss this series? Iâve already got it downloaded from my library to read next. A short story that makes you eager to know more about all the characters is a great story. I almost got a Eureka vibe from this, only with vamps instead of mad scientists. 4.5 out of 5.
âThe Deer Wifeâ by Jennifer McMahon
Julie has been meeting her lover in the woods for four years, a witch who comes to her in many forms. She knows she shouldnât, but is drawn back time after time. Julie wants to join the witch forever, be able to transform as her lover does, but the witch resists. Julie has a son, but Levi is now nineteen, with a girlfriend. And filled with resentment for the death of his father. McMahon doenât give a lot of details, particularly in regards to the death of Julieâs husband and whether the witch was more directly responsible. Or whether it is love or enchantment that keeps her returning. An old myth tweaked into an interesting romantic tale. 3.5 out of 5.
âThe Dancerâ by Kristin Dearborn
Paul Baker is called to the Weaversâ farm to help with the reports by Ani, their daughter, of haunted activity. They arenât pleased with his solution. Heâs called back a second time to find the situation is more dire than he expected and takes action. I donât know about this one. It almost reads like a rough outline or a missing scene from a longer story. Disappointed as it had great potential as a novella or a book. 3 out of 5.Â
âBless Your Heartâ by Hillary Monahan
It is never smart to go after a Southern motherâs baby boy, especially if she also has powers. Pammy Washington and her bully of a son deserved everything they got for the years Colton had tormented Tucker. Her late Mama warned Audrey to never cook when mad, but a woman can only stand so much. I laughed at what happened to Pammy. Not nice, I know, but I grew up in the South and I know women like her. Iâd bet good money that she was head cheerleader in high school, prom queen as well. She really did get what she deserved, bless her heart. For those who might not know, âbless your heartâ is the genteel Southern way of saying âyouâre a piece of shitâ. 4 out of 5.
âThe Debtâ by Ania Ahlborn
After Karolinâs mother died, her father began to change, becoming less talkative, more distant. He suddenly decides to take her to Poland, to visit his childhood home where his mother lives. After arriving with no sign of his mother, Greg takes Karolin deep into the nearby woods to hunt for mushrooms. When her back was turned, he disappears. Shivers. No happy or satisfying ending here. Just the most horrific ending you could imagine. 3.5 out of 5.
âToil & Trouble:Â A Dark-Hunter Hellchaser Storyâ by Sherrilyn Kenyon & Madaug Kenyon
The witches of Carrion Hill are constantly visited by those seeking a glimpse of their future as well as a way to avoid the bad part. As time goes on, there are less and less witches and more stupid humans who refuse to listen to the advice given. Eeri, sold to the witches by her family, hates them, desires freedom and money. A bit of Shakespeare is threaded throughout the story. I love the Bard, but I donât really think it adds to the story as much as the authors might believe it does. Another series that I havenât begun reading as yet. 3 out of the 5.
âLast Stop on Route Nineâ by Tananarive Due
Charlotte and her 12-year-old cousin decide to drive together from their grandmotherâs funeral in Tallahassee to a luncheon in Gracetown, a place both Charlotteâs mother and Kaiâs father had fled as soon as they could and never returned to. Somehow they are lost, caught in a smothering fog before coming through the other side to find a wicked old woman who curses them. Hereâs a sweet bit of horror with the mention of some real-life places peppered into the story. 4 out of 5.
âWhere Relics Go to Dream and Dieâ by Rachel Autumn Deering
After years of conjuring the witch through the flame of an almost spent candle, the old man was dying. One last conversation with the woman he loves leads to a dream or, rather, a memory that changes the past and the present. A bit scrambled, but strangely compelling nonetheless. So many questions. 3.5 out of 5.
âThis Skinâ by Amber Benson
Frances wanted to confess to homicide detective Harry Longfellow, waiting for just the right moment. The reaction isnât what she expected. Frances comes across as a ten-year-old sociopath. Unusual story. I donât know whether I like it or not. It begs for more. 3 out of 5.
âHaint Me Tooâ by Chesya Burke
Itâs been 40 years since slavery ended, but there are plenty who would like to just ignore the Emancipation Proclamation. Shea and her family lived on the Myrtle House plantation, currently owned by the Petersons. Myrtle House is haunted by the haint of a black woman who was murdered after poisoning her owners. When local whites try to prevent black families and white sharecroppers from either leaving to go North or demanding better agreements, Shea can not only help her family, but the haint. Enthralling tale of the South and how little it had changed after the War. A little scary, but also empowering. Could be considered a coming-of-age story for Shea. 4.5 out of 5.
âThe Nekrologâ by Helen Marshall
Iâm not sure how to describe this story. It involves immigrants leaving Russia, death that isnât, the Stateâs experiments in psychic abilities, and much more. Enchanting and intriguing, a story I wish had been longer. It really is almost as convoluted as an old Russian tale. 4.5 out of 5.
âGold Among the Blackâ by Alma Katsu
Greta, an orphan, owns nothing. Her only friend is Jesper, her dog. She works hard at the castle in exchange for food during the day, refusing to sleep there at night because she canât bring Jesper with her. Instead they curl up together in the woods. But Greta is getting old enough to have men watching. Another worker at the castle has also told her that there are rumors that she is a witch and Jesper is her familiar. What does she do now? Nice, a bit of romance with the fantasy. 3.5 out of 5.
âHow to Become a Witch-Queenâ by Theodora Goss
The newly widowed queen is worried about her son, the soon-to-be king, marrying off his sister to some stranger. She also needs to consider her own future now that sheâs free. A wild and interesting view of what life mightâve been like for Snow White after her Happily Ever After. New choices, old friends, and a heroine who realizes it is time to take charge of her own life in order to ensure her daughter has choices. Absolutely perfect! 5 out of 5.

When I lived in Kansas City, there was a new library that opened about a month or two or so after I moved there.
(Story under the cut because itâs hecka long)
I LOVED that library. It was in walking distance(about a mile away, which really isnât that far, it only took me 10-13 minutes to get there on foot) and it was HUGE. Two stories, books of every kind + an entire area for audiobooks and movies, a play area for the kids on the lower floor, 8-10 computers for those wanting to get work done + vending machines with snacks and drink on the wall closest to said computers, there was one time when you could take a book home for free and keep it without having to pay at all(I totally took that opportunity because why the hell would I not), and several self-checkout stations + a little conveyor belt that led into the wall through a little slot that you could automatically return books and borrowed CDs and stuff in, not to mention you could check out an UNLIMITED number of books from that place, no âonly 2 books at a timeâ rule like schools have.
Plus, directly across from the library, literally a few feet away, was the Lenexa Public Market. It wasnât big, wasnât small, but there were at least five shops there. There was a cafe, a couple places to get clothes, some board games, a place with like fast food that also served nitrogen ice cream and a variety of boba tea(I once took my friend to that place because I wanted her to try boba tea, but her religion said she wasnât allowed to have tea leaves so she got a triple-chocolate ice cream and said it was delicious), and a bakery that Iâm pretty sure I myself only bought from once, but those pastries were GOOD.
Anyway, Iâd go to the library almost every day that I didnât have to watch my sister. After school, weekends, holidays, you name it, I spent at least 50% of my days in Kansas at that library. The people who worked there knew me by name, even if I didnât talk all that much, I had my own library card because I convinced my mom to let me get one(which really wasnât that hard, she loved the fact that I spent a bunch of my time at the library, plus my whole family could borrow books on my account and everyone was fine with it) and it was completely free just like everything else. And when I had my own money(I got paid to watch my sister), I would head over to the market and buy myself a boba smoothie(yes, they did smoothies) and since I went there so often, the people who worked there knew me too and I got a punch card for a free boba tea for every 10 I ordered(I only got to fill out one of those cards before I had to move away with my family, but Iâll be damned if I wasnât super happy about that).
The people at the boba place and the library always knew who I was, I couldnât be mistaken for anyone else because 1.) I always wore my red cat hoodie, and 2.) I always worse a rainbow cat-ear headband(still do, actually). And I always gave a little wave to the people working at the desk when I walked in, which was really just me doing a peace sign and flicking my hand, and Iâd always try to smile for them. I usually spent most of my time at the library on the computer because I didnât have one at home, but that library also had two of my favorite series: Warriors by Erin Hunter and Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland. That library was the whole reason I got to read the new books earlier than I wouldâve been able to, and the books that I didnât own(a.k.a the entire second and third arc). Iâm still technically a patron of that library even though Iâm halfway across the world from it, since Iâm logged in to the digital library and check out ebooks.
Anyway, I really loved that Kansas library, and I also went to the Barnes and Noble bookstore every Wednesday after school since that wasnât that far either, I made that walk in 4 inches of snow and I was fine(granted, the snow was cleared off of the sidewalks and roads so it really wasnât that bad but it was cold). Point being, I absolutely LOVE libraries and bookstores and all that and they should be given more credit, give tips to the library workers because they really do work hard so that we can enjoy ourselves.

[image description: the cover for the Freya Snow Pup Trilogy]
Want to get the first three books in a series about an autistic, bisexual Demon-hunter for free?
Hey, look, Iâm doing a giveaway thing again!
Freya Snow is an urban fantasy series I write that started off as YA (and then went to NA after about Book Four) that is currently approaching its eleventh book.
It follows Freya Snow as she finds out that she has magic and that Demons are trying to kill her, and then attempts to not get dragged into every potentially world-ending scenario that appears in her neighbourhood...
And did I mention itâs #OwnVoices?
You can get the first three books for free by following this link.
Iâm not sure if this will be a time-limited giveaway or not... Iâve been giving the first two books away for free on BookFunnel for a while now, but Iâve been reluctant to do so with the third book because it concludes a major sub-plot, so if that sub-plot was the main reason for reading, thereâs possibly less reason to continue on with the series...
But Book Four is available for only 99c on most ebook stores, so hopefully, thatâs enough for people to give continuing the series a try, even if they feel like Book Three concluded the part of the series they were most invested in.
Signal boosts are appreciated!

Aaaah, what does Jon Snow know, anyway?
(The answer is ânothingâ.)
But we know that weâve themed our Changeling: the Lost 2nd Edition Kickstarter to change from season to season, week to week. This week, weâre finishing up Winter, and next up is Spring and all the growth that promises.
But right now, Winter rules and with it a post-Thanksgiving sense of lingering thankfulness.
Maybe it was attending PAX Unplugged in my hometown of Philly a couple of weeks ago just two blocks from the hobby store where I bought the original D&D Monster Manual, then a wonderful family Thanksgiving, and then getting back together with an old friend and gaming buddy from our college years after ten years yesterday, but Iâm in the mood to tell you about how I got into this tabletop gaming thing of ours while expressing some thanks.
(Feel free to skip to THE BLURBS! and the Updates, if anything pre-White Wolf causes your eyes to glaze over. This is pre-history, dude.)
Half Damned art by Michele Giorgi
Hereâs the preamble: I started serious tabletop gaming in my sophomore year of HS (Central HS in Philly, class 239) by walking into the Strategy & Tactics Society where about a dozen guys were playing board games like Squad Leader and Wooden Ships and Iron Men.
You want to see where checking off heatsinks in BattleTech came from? Thatâs your game; you checked off hull, rigging, etc. Also probably influenced Star Fleet Battles.
Anyway, I was amazed because I had never met anyone who wanted to play Avalon Hill and other tactical boardgames. Besides myself. So I stayed and played, and within a couple of weeks I heard that Robert was coming back, and he was ready to DM.
I had no idea who this guy was, or what a DM was, but this was apparently big news to the group who were into this new style of gaming called Dungeons and Dragons. A bunch of the other gamers in the club were not happy with it; it wasnât real gaming, they said. Apparently, we had all been waiting for Robert to get his hands on a book of new rules called Blackmoor. Sure, whatever you say.
Well, I did sit in on the session when Robert returned, and while my Halfling Thief was hardly an original fantasy character concept, I was enthralled by this combination of improv theatre and wargaming where I could discover the world that started on sheets of graph paper that Robert scribbled on in response to our questions â a tree here, a pool of mud there â but was so much bigger and richer in my mind.
And Robert was amazing. The way he worked with each player to include their ideas, but kept his conception of this world of his constant, was like watching a narrative grow. Like sitting next to Moorcock, Tolkien, or Leiber, and suggesting ideas. I didnât know anything like this existed! So my first Thanks go to Robert, my first DM, who inspired me to start my own campaign world not six months later.
A bunch of us took turns DMing as Robert faded away towards graduation, and not just D&D, but Boot Hill and Traveller as well. How we laughed as our intricately planned space military characters died in character creation! Good times.
Enemy Action art by Andrew Trabbold
But I DMâd D&D specifically, and began a consistent world that I fined-tuned over the Summer vacation, so that when we resumed playing in our club after school, and I had enough players that we could divide them into the good, neutral, and evil, teams, they all started in The City With No Name that sat astride the east/west and north/south trade routes nexus â and their adventures affected the city and the world.
Two years the gaming club guys played in that same world, many of them running through multiple characters. I graduated, went to art school twenty minutes from high school, so I returned to DM for the club some afternoons. Many of the folks who learned tabletop RPGs from playing these sessions became friends and we got together outside of the club, especially as they graduated and went to college too.
Meanwhile, I started DMing, same world, for a group of students at art school and their friends once a week. A bunch tried it, thought it was fun (or not) but didnât keep up with it. But a core group loved it, and became the nucleus for a weekly gaming session that went on for twelve years. (I did not run all of those games, and we did miss some weeks, but it was mostly my D&D world).
And here is the next Thanks: Iâm thankful that our group was mixed genders and races and that there was never an issue with prejudice within our group. There were affairs and jealousy and grudges and other human interactions, but for whatever reason I was lucky to have a group that saw this weird hobby as something that everyone could partake in and play in whatever way they felt good playing.
We had Mickey with her crafted storylines for her characters like Kwik the duck monk (Mistress of Kwak-Fu), and the brutish DW the half-ogre and his evil intelligent two-handed sword who did his thinking for him. Danilo with his âwhatâs next?â questions, and chaotic characters like Elmer who reincarnated into a troll. Jodie, who read every D&D book and magazine she got her hands on and knew all the gaming tricks for Yain Yarwa (Y-Squared) elven thief/assassin, and Isis, illusionist were-tiger. Chaka with his intricate strategies and plans that could take months to come to fruition, and Ed, who wrote up our sessions as chapters in a novel featuring his character Farcist, half-orc renegade.
In fact, our group only stopped playing because I moved to Georgia in 1992 to take over all Art Direction at White Wolf. We had been to hell and back together in our personal lives, and except for one guy who deserted us during those times, the group stuck together. When I moved, they were the ones who drove the rented vans with all my worldly goods down to GA.
Which brings me to now and several decades later. Because as of last year, most of the old crew have started to get together once a quarter. Sometimes for game night, sometimes for a movie, once for a wedding; always so we can talk with each other as only old friends can. Our kids are heading out into high school and college or into their own lives, and there is time again to get together with those people whose characters were once an adventuring party, but whose real lives have bonded even more tightly. My third Thanks goes to them.
So fourth Thanks: for forty years (this month) of this RPG hobby that set me on a career path and allowed me to make friends all the way through those times. My good gaming friends from high school and college and my WW friends and all the people Iâve befriended since then. Folks Iâm simply glad to see at conventions, folks on-line, and those who have stood with me facing the hordes of hell.
Kind of getting inspired here; I may even start running my D&D world againâŚ
Many Worlds. One Path.

The Huntsmen are unstoppable monsters, and the Lost can only look to each other for respite, rare comfort, and rarer trust.

     A Land Where Legends Walk
Drawing enthusiastically on Greek mythology, the revised and re-imagined Scarred Lands nonetheless retains its place as a modern fantasy RPG setting. This is a world shaped by gods and monsters, and only the greatest of heroes can expect to be counted among them. The most populous continent of Scarn, Ghelspad, plays host to vast unexplored regions, hides unsolved riddles from ancient cultures, and taunts adventures with the promise of undiscovered riches hidden among the ruins of older civilizations.
Yet the myths of the Scarred Lands are relatively recent events. The effects of the Titanswar still ripple through the world, and the heroines and villains of many of these stories are part of living memory, if not still living.
The Award-Winning Fantasy Setting Returns
Scarred Lands has been a favorite fantasy setting since the release of the Creature Collection for the d20 System in 2000. In subsequent years, over 40 titles were published for Scarred Lands, making it one of the most fully supported fantasy RPG settings ever and the premiere product line of Sword & Sorcery Studios.
Available in both 5th Edition and Pathfinder compatible versions! PDF and PoD formats available NOW!

Heroes, Villains, and Others in Between!Â
This tome is a revision of the original book by the same title, originally published for use with 3rd edition rules for the worldâs most popular roleplaying game. In this revised edition of The Wise & the Wicked, all the same characters have returned (and weâve added some new ones, too!), for use with the Scarred Lands Playerâs Guide.Â
Champions of Gods and TitansÂ
The Wise & the Wicked introduces a rogueâs gallery of the Scarred Landsâ movers and shakers, characters who carry out the will of the gods or the fallen titans. These non-player characters can be friends, enemies, or simply convenient resources for the player characters in your game.
Inside, find villains such as King Virduk of Calastia, the Black Dragon, along with his wife, the beautiful (and black-hearted) Queen Geleeda; the Grand Vizier to King Virduk, the wicked warrior-mage Anteas; and the sinister general of Virdukâs northern armies, Archduke Traviak the Steel-Fisted. At the other end of the spectrum, meet the gracious Lady Ariniel, the Swan Knight, champion of Madriel; Kimer the Shatterer, bearer of the Earth Sword of Scarn and tenacious foe of the titanspawn of the north; and King Thain the Just, the Aleking, ruler of Burok Torn. And many others beside!
Here youâll find a fascinating compendium of characters from the Scarred Lands, but easily transported into campaigns set elsewhere. In addition, find multiple appendices full of new magic items and artifacts, class archetypes and prestige classes, new feats, new creatures and races, and more.
Available in Pathfinder and 5th Edition versions! PDF and PoD formats available NOW!

They did a great job at it, there is always much to learn from that.)

Title: The Lady and the Highlander    Author: Lecia Cornwall Rating: 4/5 stars Synopsis: Laire MacLeodâs father has married a mysterious widow who is a vain beauty that deals with potions and spells. Laire does not drink them with the rest of her family and is the only one who could see through her stepmotherâs games. When Laire flees to find help from her Uncle the Ladyâs huntsman follows her with orders to kill. Laire must survive in a dangerous new city and find the antidote to a poisonous potion before it is too late.
Iain Lindsay is cursed. He is bound for seven years to be the hunter of a Lady who uses him to bring back birds to use in her potions. When Laire MacLeod escapes the Ladyâs nets, Iain tracks her to Edinburgh, where sheâs found shelter with an unusual band of thieves, but he cannot bring himself to harm her. Instead, he finds himself falling in love with the MacLeod beauty. But a Highlanderâs oath is his bond, and the price for helping her is death, both his own, and of those he loves.
I received a free ebook copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My Thoughts: The Lady and the Highlander is a clever Snow White retelling with a Scottish twist that lends new charm to the well-known tale. Iâm not very keen on fairy tales in general, but the change of the setting really made a difference in this case. Part of the story takes place in Edinburgh, Laire runs that far from home to escape the Sealgair â aka the huntsman â and she goes through all kinds of adventure in the city while she tries to save her family from afar. Compared to the original fairy tale there is a variety of settings here, not only the forest and thatâs an improvement, I think.
The book keeps the eerily dark undertone of the Grimm tale â who wants a cup of fresh bird blood? :) â and at the same time adds a romance that is much better developed than âthe Prince sees the girl, they kiss and decide to marryâ script. I mean, in the first half of the novel Iain, the Sealgair, is out on a mission to kill Laire. From this alone you can see that their romance is a tiny bit problematic and thatâs what makes it interesting.
They have the spark from the beginning, but there are reasons why Iain canât just give up his task easily. I loved how it all started with desire and then Iain slowly began to feel protective of Laire. The fine mix of want and worry made the romance very real to me.
As you read Lecia Cronwellâs words you can sometimes forget youâre reading a fairy tale retelling, because it is a tale that can stand on its own with its many details and lovely characters. When you remember for a moment that it is a retelling after all, you can be surprised by the parallels. At least thatâs what happened to me.
I think it dawned on me a little late that Laireâs new friends in the city are the dwarves to Laireâs Snow White, but when it did, it made so much sense! It was a great idea to include The Clan of Thieves in the story. Little, innocent Wee Kipper was my favourite, I guess he was Dopeyâs alter ego and he was a sweet one.
The Queen was scary enough with her bird and blood mania and she also had a crush on Iain, which made me uncomfortable. Iain had quite a lot of secrets only the Queen knew about. That made it difficult for him to break loose and follow his heart and I sympathized with him.
As you see, I enjoyed The Lady and the Highlander very much. Why didnât I mark it a 5-star read then? I have two reasons:
Unfortunately some of the erotic parts didnât live up to my expectations. I havenât read many books in the genre, but I think it is a common thing that sometimes the foreplay goes out the window. Iâm not happy for that, âcouse foreplay is important yâall.
Another thing that bothered me a bit was that the writer used the word âsexâ to refer to sexual intercourse. It was stated in the Authorâs Note that the story was set in 1809. Now, I made a quick research on the internet about the etymology of the word sex and I found that it didnât take on the meaning âsexual intercourseâ until D. H. Lawrence started using it with that meaning in his novels. It felt out of place to me, thatâs why I had to check.
Reading the Authorâs Note it is obvious that Lecia Cornwall had made her research before she wrote her book and Iâm not writing all this down to contradict her, my point is that I would have preferred to see synonyms of âsexâ that fit the time period better (love-making, carnal pleasures etcâŚ)
Despite these two tiny bumps on the road, I loved the experience pretty much and I would recommend The Lady and the Highlander to everyone who loves fairy tales or Scottish tales. This story is truly worth your time.

Hello, I have a puppy that is 9 weeks old, we recieved him when he was 8 weeks. He is easy to train when it comes to: jump, sit, paw, and come here. The problem is that we cant get him to walk outside. When he sees the dog harness, he runs away to hus bed and pretends to sleep to avoid it. When we carry him all he does is whines and refuses to move and even pulling backwards as we just stan in the same spot. We have tried with dog treats and to encourage him with a âcome hereâ but he wont budge and the whines becomes louder. We live in sweden and we have alot of snow it is about -5 celcius. He wears a puppy sweater for him but he hates going outside. A dog may become afraid of rain through an association with thunder and lightning, or it may respond to the owner putting on a particular pair of shoes by fetching its leash.[44] Classical conditioning is used in dog training to help a dog make specific associations with a particular stimulus, particularly in overcoming fear of people and situations.[45] Care for Animals Jump up ^ Woodhouse 1982, p. 13. ¡ 30 March 2018 Ready to prevent unwanted chasing? Building on a positive relationship between them, the method sets out to achieve results that benefit both the dog and the trainer, while at the same time enhancing and strengthening their relationship. The basic principles include ensuring that the dogâs basic needs have been met before beginning a training session, finding out what motivates the dog and using it to elicit behaviours, interpreting the dogâs body language to improve communication between dog and trainer, using positive reinforcement to encourage desired behavior, training incompatible behaviors to replace unwanted behaviours, and controlling the dogâs environment to limit the possibility of unwanted behaviours.[74] A relationship-based approach to dog training is not reliant on using particular training aids or treats, the relationship is always there, and the connection between dog and trainer is sufficiently powerful to achieve the training goals.[75] Recent Posts Ryan : FREE Puppy EBook No bullying or harassment of fellow commenters. [image description: covers for the first nine Freya Snow books]
Who wants to read about the adventures of an autistic, bisexual demon hunter?
Because I might have written a series about just that and Book Nine is coming out next month.
(Iâm actually going to send it out to the reviewers tomorrow.)
The series so far is divided into three trilogies:
Trilogy the First (Aka The Pup Trilogy (Aka The YA Trilogy))
Book One
Being an autistic teenager sucks and Freya has learned the hard lessons of not trusting anyone and keeping to herself, but when she finds out that she has magical powers, it seems as if keeping her head down will now be impossible. And the worst part? Her powers are tied to her emotions, which she has spent fourteen years bottling away.
Book one is available for free from all major ebook stores.
Book Two
When faeries curse Freya and her classmates to play out fairytales, she finds herself stuck in the role of Snow White with no prince on the way.
Book two is available for free from BookFunnel.
Book Three
When a magical excess gives everyone access to heightened powers, Freya finds out that those closest to her may have been keeping secrets similar to her own, just in time for the demon lord that has been hunting her for the past three years to launch a full-scale attack on earth.
Book three is available from all major ebook stores.
Trilogy the Second (Aka The Hammer Trilogy (Aka The NA Trilogy))
Book Four
When an oracle goes missing, Fate calls on Freya to track her down. The problem? She may not want to be found.
Book four is available from all major ebook stores.
Book Five
When Freya gets her first real-world job and manages to make a friend, she thinks her post-school life couldnât be going any better. But when that new friend is cursed, itâs up to Freya to track down the culprit before itâs too late.
Book five is available from all major ebook stores.
Book Six
When magical beings start to disappear, Freya makes it her mission to find the culprit. Which would be much easier if everyone else wasnât certain that her new girlfriend was behind it...
Book six is available from all major ebook stores.
Trilogy the Third (Aka The Soulbound Trilogy (Aka The One Where Shit Gets Serious))
Book Seven
Being hunted by both magical and human authorities, Freya and her girlfriend flee across Europe to try and outrun them, but after the events of the last book, Freyaâs powers arenât exactly stable and she's not sure that itâs safe for them to keep travelling together...
Book seven is available from all major ebook stores.
Book Eight
After an assassin is sent after Freyaâs friend Mel, Freya accompanies her to Atlantis to reclaim her birthright.
Book eight is available from all major ebook stores.
Book Nine
When Lord Utherâs men attack her family, Freya finds herself confronted by her nemesisâ son, who wants to take his father down as much as Freya.
Book nine is coming October 1st! Watch this space, or follow me on Amazon.
