South Africa relaunched T20 league Cricket South Africa started a recruitment process for a re-launched Twenty20 league.  This T20 match will be from November 9 until December 16.  Cricket players from foreign and local have been invited to apply to play in the SA T20 League. This will be staged a year after an aborted Global T20 League, which cost the South African governing body an estimated $14 million, including compensation paid to 144 contracted players. In this re-launched new league, 6 teams will be playing. Venues are yet to be decided. IISc Bengaluru Tops India In Global List Of Best Institutes No Indian institution figures in the top 250 of the Times Higher Education’s (THE) world university rankings 2019, though the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, has retained its position as the highest-ranked centre in the country, while the Indian Institute of Technology-Indore has risen to the highest position behind it.  The rankings show Oxford continues to hold the first place, Cambridge second, and Stanford third. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology rose one place to number four. In India, number of Indian institutions in the rankings increased from 42 last year to 49, making it the fifth best-represented nation. Researchers says that the worlds biggest bird was Vorombe titan A study released by the British scientists suggested that one species of elephant bird with a specimen weighing an estimated 860 Kg, about the same as a fully grown giraffe.  Scientists suggest that they couldn’t have definitely flown as they couldn’t have supported anywhere near their weight.  By examining the bones, it is found that the elephant bird bones are found around the world.  The data collected were thus fed into a machine-learned algorithm to create a spread of expected animal sizes. The bird was named Vorombe titan, Malagasy for “big bird”. It would have stood at least three metres, i.e,10 feet tall, and had an average weight of 650 kg. Supreme Court scraps Section 497 IPC, says ‘Adultery not a crime‘ The Supreme Court on September 27 unanimously struck down Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that makes adultery a punishable offence for men.  A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said the 158-year-old law was unconstitutional and fell foul of Article 21 (Right to life and personal liberty) and Article 14 (Right to equality). The petition seeking the repeal of Section 497 IPC was filed by a non-resident Keralite - Joseph Shine. Union Cabinet Approves National Digital Communications Policy National Digital Communications Policy (NDCP) 2018 aims to attract USD 100 billion investment and create 4 million jobs in the sector by 2022. According to the draft of the policy, NDCP is focused on increasing high-speed broadband penetration, with use of modern technologies like 5G and optical fibres across the country at affordable rates. IAF successfully test fired BVRAAM Astra The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully test fired the indigenously developed Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM) Astra from a Su-30 aircraft. It was tested at the Kalaikunda Air Force Station. The test missions included engagement of target at very long range, engagement of high manoeuvring target at medium range and multiple launches of missiles in a salvo to engage multiple targets. India has attained a high level of capability in the indigenous design and development of advanced weapon systems. This effort for building a state-of-the-art BVRAAM by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) together with IAF completed the development phase of the weapon system successfully. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) played a role in modifying the aircraft for weapon integration. SEBI approved BSEs gold, silver futures Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) approved Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to launch delivery-based futures contract in gold (1 kg) and silver (30 kg). BSE will launch trading in these contracts on October 1.  The delivery centre of gold and silver futures contract will be exchange designated vaults at Ahmedabad initially, and then will be expanded across India in the second phase. Rs 1,375 crore will be given as transport subsidy to millers. This is the second financial package to bail out the sugar industry after Rs 8,500 crore announced in June. India‘s 1st electric hypercar concept Vazirani Shul unveiled Mumbai-based Vazirani Automotive has unveiled their first turbine-electric hypercar concept, the Shul, in India.  The new Vazirani Shul, which is quite similar to the BMW i8, has been created by designer and co-founder Chunky Vazirani. The name ‘Shul‘ (pronounced ‘Shool‘) has been derived from the Hindu god Shiva.
