LV20!Creammare Comfort for Spazz: Commission for Ko-Fi
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
(SFW, Fluff, Angst)
Dream had never been more devastated than in that moment. Sci stared at him quietly and seemed to immediately sense his distress, holding his clipboard tighter against him. “I-I’m sorry, Dream...” He said quietly, trying to fix his glasses. Dream shook his head, quietly assuring Sci it wasn’t his fault. He knew Sci wasn’t scared of him though. Tentacles slid around Dream’s arm.
“And you’re sure?” Nightmare’s growling voice was slightly pained. Sci gave another nod, avoiding the king’s gaze. They were in his office in his AU. Dream kept his hands tightly clasped in front of him. Dream exhaled quietly. “Can we have a moment?” Nightmare said, looking up at Sci, who nodded. He apologized to Dream again as he left.
The moment the door was closed, Dream broke down, beginning to cry shakily. He covered his face as Nightmare quickly hugged him from behind. He had never been so upset. Nightmare could feel his grief and sadness feeding him, but he actively rejected it. He was upset as well. “Dream, I’m so sorry.” He said quietly, moving around to kneel in front of him.
“I-It’s not your f-fault... I-I-It’s mine...” Dream hiccuped weakly as golden tears poured down his face. Nightmare’s tentacles curled unhappily at the sight of them. He reached up and gently began to wipe away his tears, insisting that Dream hadn’t known. Dream reached up and held his brother’s hands. He leaned up, pressing his teeth to Dream’s forehead as he wrapped his tentacles around the golden skeleton.
“We can just tell him we can’t do it. That neither of us can.” Nightmare said quietly. Dream shook his head immediately. He didn’t want to lie to Cross, and he didn’t want to deprive Nightmare of such an opportunity. He shook his head again, whispering that he was a terrible liar. That Cross would know in an instant that something was wrong. Nightmare’s tentacles drooped a little, knowing he was right.
“I don’t want to do it if you can’t.” He said in his quiet, rumbling voice. Dream stared at him. As touched as he was, he didn’t want to take that away from the other. He began to cry weakly again and Nightmare asked why he was crying again. Dream shook, hugging himself.
“I know you want it. You want it as badly as I do and I don’t want you to hold yourself back just because I’m not capable.” Dream was taking deep breaths. He covered his face, Nightmare hugging him and providing unspoken comfort. Dream was right. Nightmare did want it. He wanted it badly, but he didn’t want to risk upsetting Dream even more. He jumped as his brother tried to get up.
“Dream, we can stay a little longer. We don’t have to go back right now.” Nightmare said, standing up with his brother and holding him close. Dream shook his head. The longer he stayed away, the more he would be tempted not to go back at all. And he wanted to see Cross. He whispered that he wanted to go home. Nightmare nodded. He located the camera in the room, signaling that they were leaving.
He opened a portal to the common room of his castle and guided Dream through, shutting it behind them. Everyone was asleep right then. Well, everyone except for one person, who Nightmare could sense both worry and excitement from. He moved up the stairs with Dream. He spoke again as they walked down the hallway. “Dream, we can still wait. You don’t have to tell him.” Nightmare said, glancing at him.
Dream stared at the floor as he walked, genuinely contemplating the offer. He couldn’t imagine the disappointment from Cross. He couldn’t imagine his face and the way his shoulders would sink and- Nightmare stopped him in the hall. He turned to face him and reached up, using two fingers to lift his chin. Dream realized he was crying again.
He was crying so bad that his vision was blurring and Nightmare stared at him in dismay. He used his thumbs to gently wipe Dream’s tears again, his hands sliding up to cup the golden skeleton’s cheeks. Dream allowed a soft hiccup to escape. “What are you worried about?” He asked softly. “I’m sure you’re scared he’ll be disappointed, but there’s something deeper, I can sense it.”
As always, he couldn’t hide anything from his twin and Dream nodded. He knew it was silly and unlikely, but he was absolutely terrified that Cross would hate him. “What if th-this is the dealbreaker, brother?” Nightmare stared at him in shock and opened his mouth, which made Dream start crying and blurt out. “I-I know... I know it’s impossible and I know Cross loves me very much, but I’m so scared...”
He already had constant worry that he didn’t belong in a relationship with them just because they’d already had feelings for each other long before he’d arrived. He was so scared. He felt like he’d pushed his way into somewhere he didn’t belong and this news had only amplified that terrified feeling. He didn’t realize his breathing had sped up and he suddenly felt teeth against his own.
He felt a shaky calm pass through his body, making his bones tremble. He melted against Nightmare weakly. The other held him up, finally pulling back. He’d been siphoning Dream’s negative feelings and thoughts. He stared at him quietly. “Why didn’t you ever tell me you felt like that?” Nightmare was a little taken back. Dream stared at him, still tearful. “You are not an intruder in this relationship.”
Dream hadn’t realized how badly he’d needed to hear that. Nightmare gently took his hands, giving them a squeeze. He began to walk with Dream again, asking if he still wanted to tell him. “We can still lie to him and tell him we both can’t do it. He wouldn’t question it. We’re both twins, so it would only make sense.” Nightmare reasoned softly.
“No, he would know. He can look at my face and know something’s wrong, Night.” Dream said weakly. Nightmare’s tentacles flicked. He was right. Cross had grown much more perceptive. They reached the door to Nightmare’s bedroom and Nightmare whispered that this was his last chance. Dream could already hear the gentle hum of Cross’ LV through the door. He whispered that he would tell him.
Nightmare nodded and opened the door. Cross sat up so fast on the bed that the magic making up his horns scratched the ceiling and he flinched, swearing softly. More magic prickled along his hood. He moved around to stand in front of them in his classic soldier stance. Dream looked up at him weakly and Cross’ magic immediately crackled and he knelt down. “Dream? What’s wrong?”
Dream trembled before moving forward and hugging Cross. Cross was startled for a moment before hugging him back and looking up at Nightmare in confusion and dismay. He didn’t actually know where they’d gone or what they’d been doing. Nightmare only returned his gaze quietly. He wasn’t going to tell him if Dream didn’t want him to. “I... what happened? Are you hurt?”
Cross was very worried as he immediately began to check over Dream, who shook his head. He was a little panicked. Cross HATED seeing Dream cry and would immediately do anything in his power to cheer him up. He held him against him, having his magic heat up his body a little. Dream always felt so small and fragile against him.
“Dream. Do you want to tell him or should I?” Dream trembled as Nightmare spoke, the darker feeling Cross’ confusion and panic only grow stronger. Nightmare was feeding, but again, he actively rejected it. Dream gulped and asked weakly if Nightmare could tell him. He asked Nightmare not to lie to Cross. Cross sat down crisscross, gently pulling Dream to sit sideways in his lap.
He had the other positioned so his head was resting in the fluff of Cross’ hood. Nightmare came over and settled down as well, his tentacles curling around you. “You know we want nothing other than for you to be happy, Cross.” He said quietly. Cross nodded immediately. He was no fool and he was constantly reminded of how much they loved him everyday. “You mentioned the other day about something that would make you happy and it was starting a family.”
Cross’ cheeks tinted purple and his magic crackled for a moment as he looked down. He’d thought he’d said that quiet enough that neither of them had heard, but clearly not. “We booked an appointment with Sci and he ran tests with us to see if it was possible.” He paused for a moment. Dream could practically sense Nightmare struggling with what he wanted to tell Cross. He looked over at his brother pleadingly.
He didn’t want him to lie to Cross. Nightmare’s tentacles slightly tightened around him and he took a deep breath. “I am able to bear children...” He sighed quietly, his voice a little strained. “But Dream is infertile.” At that, Dream slowly broke down again, clinging to Cross as he cried. Cross’ shoulders were drooping, just as he predicted. Cross was taken back.
“I don’t want a family that bad... It’s okay...” He quickly insisted, looking down at Dream. The other wouldn’t look at him. He was crying too hard to hear or see anything. Cross looked up at Nightmare in worry. “There’s something else, isn’t there?” Dread prickled along his bones. Nightmare gave a weak scoff, though it was clear he was also being affected by his brother’s crying.
“He was afraid you wouldn’t love him anymore. He feels like a intruder in this relationship. Which, I’m sure you agree, isn’t true.” Cross’ eyes widened and he looked down at Dream. He gently held the other, nuzzling him until he got his attention. He was being as gentle as his fangs and claws would allow. The guardian finally looked up at him with tears running down his face.
“Hey... Dream... I... You are NOT an intruder in this relationship. I PROMISE you that. I also promise I’m happy enough knowing you went into all that trouble for something I wanted.” Dream began to whimper and Cross shushed him gently with a kiss. He gently rubbed his cheek. “It’s okay. I’m not mad. I’m not disappointed.” Dream stared at him and Cross paused for a moment to let the guardian analyze his feelings. There was nothing but truth in his words and soul.
“Just because I want a family doesn’t mean I need it. I’m fine with not having it. The only thing I NEED is you.” Cross said. He looked up at Nightmare, who seemed momentarily startled. “BOTH of you.” For once, the darker’s face flushed and he crossed his arms, quickly looking away. “You two make me happy!” He gently nuzzled Dream again. “I’m honored you two did that for me and were thinking of it, but I don’t need it if we can’t do it.”
He smiled at Dream. “If having a family means excluding you, I don’t want to do it. You two are more than enough.” He was being genuine enough that Dream’s bones glowed gold and Nightmare’s sludge was prickling like needles. Cross looked up and reached out a hand to Nightmare. The darker’s face was glowing cyan as he was pulled over, tucked against Cross’ side, right next to Dream’s head.
Dream turned to his head to rub his cheek against Nightmare’s and Cross watched them both warmly. “I love you two.” That statement made the twins’ faces both light up in their respective colors. Dream gave a weak, teary-eyed giggle, Cross smiling as well, as Nightmare muttered for him to shut up and stop being so fucking sappy.

He’s all grown up! I wanted him to evolve before we take on the 7th gym but it takes forever to level up when the wild Pokémon around you are barely lv20.
