If Rubin could take Artemy's place as a protagonist, as a doll, as a puppet on strings of a creator that never knew him or cared for him the way Rubin does, he absolutely would. Its baked into his video game NPC coding. When he says "Artemy doesn't deserve to be a healer in this town" it sounds like he's saying it dismissively but he's not. He knows more than most people what a cursed lot that is and how it WILL destroy the soul of anyone involved, and basically his primary motivation in the game is to keep Artemy specifically from having to go through that.
