For this challenge, you will choose a prompt + a theme (or two) and create piece, written or visual. Each creator may submit up to three works.

Maturity ⏳ as the harvest ripens, so do we. Write about a coming of age or a lesson learned.

Preservation 🫙 in preparation for the coming winter, we try to hold onto the last bit of warmth. Write about letting go, or not wanting to.

Balance ⚖️ as the equinox approaches, the day and night balance out. Write about finding peace.

Melancholy ☁️ as the trees shed and the flowers wilt, we feel a sense of loss. Write a tragic tale.

Abundance 🧺 As the harvest is reaped, we come into abundance. Write a story about excess and luxury.

Refuge 🏠 as the sun shines less hot, we retreat indoors. Write about seeking refuge.

Earthiness 🌍 the smell of leaves, footsteps in mud, and the damp air. Write a story with an earthy atmosphere.

Rules:

This challenge is open to all fandoms and characters.

🍂Dark creations are accepted but we will not accept underage, incest, or bestiality. Please don’t forget to add warnings to your works appropriately.

🍂For written pieces, there are no word count limits, but we do ask that you add a “read more” beyond 500 words.

🍂We hope that creators can create an inclusive work and encourage writers and creators to use appropriate tagging, ie, f!reader, etc..

My thoughts about this experience under the cut:

So I'm quite happy with the fact that I finished a long drawing challenge (first time in my life).

In a way it was good for my perfectionism, because ain't no way that all these would turn out good, with sometimes short time for it. Now I can appreciate more when I have time for one drawing. :D

It's so weird how long the first few prompts were. It's only a month and I feel like it was several months ago, like during the summer or something.

The routine. I did not draw anything today and I have an itch for it :D

And one more interesting thing was what the people like. Not necessarily what I like, so anyway here are my favourites: 1. Autumn, 5. Scars, 8. Witch's Brew, 9. Moon, 12. Harvest Festival, 14. A schedule of the films can be found on their social media, but they advise coming in blind for a peak movie going experience. It's chilly, so don't forget to bring your blankets!

Join the family who owns this beloved restaurant and their dedicated cooking staff in a paid cooking class where they'll show you how to make your own pasta from scratch!

September 13: Pumpkin Spice Bake Off @ The High Line, Manhattan

The Borough Baking Bites (an amateur online baking community) are hosting their first Pumpkin Spice Bake Off right on the High Line! To participate, amateur bakers only needed to sign up online for $20 and bring a homemade baked good of choice that includes pumpkin spice. Any citizen walking by is welcome to stop and try the different pumpkin spice goods for no cost at all - just a simple request to make sure to Scan the QR code provided to vote for their favorite treat. Winner of the bake off gets half of the total entry fee as their prize!

September 14: Core Fitness’ 4th Annual Mud Run @ Staten Island

Sponsored by Core Fitness and hosted at Staten Island's Greenbelt Nature Center, Core Fitness is proud to host their 4th Annual Mud Run! Gym members and non-members alike are invited to participate in a 3 mile outdoor challenge course filled with over 30 man-made and natural obstacles to overcome! Astronomy fans are invited to join the astronomy club as they host a moon party for the community! Be warned - the eclipse is projected to enter it's darkest phase around 11:44pm - prepare for a late night!

September 20: Speed Dating @ The Blue Note, Queens

Calling all 25-36 year old singles! Spark Events proudly invites you to enjoy a night of smooth jazz and mingling at their speed dating event, hosted at The Blue Note! Choose whether you want to sit or rotate at the start, then take part in engaging five-minute conversations in search of that ever elusive spark. Keep a record of the people you'd like to see again to submit to the organizers at the end of the event, and you'll get your matches sent to you the next day!

September 21: Bar Olympics @ The Well, Staten Island

Bar Olympics is the name, and pools, darts, and beer pong are the games. The Well happily presents September's Bar Olympics for their guests to take part in!

Join the staff at Sappho's starting at 5pm for a DIY Fall Candles workshop! Some signature scents available will include Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon, Sandalwood, and Maple!

September 26: Advance Line Dancing @ Cowbells, the Bronx

Think you know your way around a dance hall? Come prove it at Cowbells! Line dance instructors are ready to teach the more serious dancers some advance line dances to current country hits starting at 7pm!

September 30: Ghost Stories w/the New York Public Library @ Central Park, Manhattan

It's almost spooky season, and the New York Public Library wants to celebrate! Guests are invited to sit around the Central Park firepits to swap ghost stories together -the spookier, the better!

Oilstripe and Burdockpaw run across a kittypet named Apple Cider.

“Do you think StarClan really blesses our memories?” Burdockpaw asked as he sniffed the edge of the Great Northern River.

“If they didn’t,” Oilstripe hummed, scanning the water, “do you think we’d be able to remember everything we do?”

“I don’t know,” Burdockpaw grumbled. “Didn’t Fennelspot say something about cats fading in StarClan? If historians remember so much, how come cats fade away?” Oilstripe slashed at the water and snagged a small fish hurrying toward the ocean.

“I’m still figuring that stuff out,” Oilstripe said through her fish.

“How can you be my mentor if you don’t know that stuff?” Burdockpaw huffed. A cheerful meow bounced through the trees on the other side of the river before Oilstripe could put her little brother in his place.

“Hi there!” Oilstripe and Burdockpaw looked over the river. A warm brown tabby stood along the river’s edge, tail high. Green-yellow eyes glimmered in the late afternoon glow.

“Hello?” Oilstripe mewed back hesitantly.

“I believe we’re neighbors now!” the cat yowled. “I’m Apple Cider! My humans moved into the village north of here a few days ago! Do you live out in the southern farms?”

“We’re Clan cats, actually,” Oilstripe explained, sitting politely beside her catch. “My name is Oilstripe. This is my brother, Burdockpaw.”

“You need to stay on that side of the river,” Burdockpaw called. “We can’t have kittypets hunting in our land!”

“Oh ho ho, is that a challenge?” Apple Cider laughed, wiggling their flank.

“We could tell you more if you’re up for a chat,” Oilstripe suggested.

“No, thank you!” Apple Cider chirped. “I’m just saying hello to all the neighborhood cats. We can swap stories another time. Nice to meet you!” With a simple wave of their tail, they trotted upstream, tail swaying behind them.

“There are humans up north?” Burdockpaw asked. “I thought they only lived south by WheatClan.”

“Apparently not,” Oilstripe hummed. “Come on. Let’s go tell Downstar about our new neighbor.”

Most of RippleClan knew what the other Clans thought of Scrubmask. In their eyes, she was a monotone molly whose pessimistic worldview meant she wasn’t long for RippleClan’s bubbly culture. A lot of that was true; Scrubmask was a steady, slightly sour figure among a Clan of hopefuls. For Fennelspot, though, a sour friend was exactly what he needed.

“If willow bark is so effective,” Scrubmask sighed as she led Fennelspot through the territory, “what’s the point of collecting lettuce?”

“You don’t want to over harvest any one source of medicine,” Fennelspot explained. “Wild lettuce has a stronger sedative property than willow bark. I used some when I amputated Parsley’s tail.”

“Oh,” Scrubmask hummed. “Just tell me what to do, then.” Scrubmask slowed and walked beside Fennelspot with an empty basket dangling off her neck, carefully balanced against her chest. The pair fell into a gentle rhythm as they made their way to the open reaches of the territory by WheatClan. With Scrubmask at Fennelspot’s side, there was a comfort in even the most tedious of tasks.

Centaur time

On Aran centaurs use the moons to keep track of time. Manini/Kon, the smaller male moon, is used to measure the months. Metzi/Nurt, the larger female moon, is used to mark the passage of seasons.

A centaur week contains ten (10) days. A month contains thirty (30) days. A year contains sixteen (16) months or four hundred and eighty (480) days.

Days of the week:

Monfaday- Moon Father Day- the start of the week. Kon/Manini arrives first.

Monmaday- Moon Mother Day- the second day of the week. Nurt/Metzi moves slowly and arrives second.

Rahday- Rah’s Day- the third day of the week. Nurt/Metzi creates the twin Sun and Aran, the sun is made first. Rah is the name of the sun god of the halflings.

Aranday- Aran’s Day. fourth day of the week. Nurt/Metzi creates the twin Sun and Aran, Aran the world is born second.

Astrday- Stars’ Day. The fifth day of the week. Kon/Manini creates all the stars in the sky.

Seaday- Seas’ Day. The sixth day of the week. Nurt/Metzi creates the seas and oceans.

Brookday- Brooks’ Day. The seventh day of the week. Kon/Manini creates the brooks, streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes.

Arbrday- Arbors’ Day. The eighth day of the week. Nurt/Metzi creates trees and bushes.

Grassday- Grasses’ Day. The ninth day of the week. Kon/Manini creates the grasses, mosses, and flowers.

Beastday- Beasts’ Day. The tenth day of the week. Nurt/Metzi and Kon/Manini challenge each other in creating the animals.

Months of the year:

(Winter) Dawn Moon- First month of the year. When days start to increase after the Solstice. The first week of this month is dedicated to the New Year festival. Start of breeding season for centaurs.

(Winter) Silk Moon- Tools are readied for the upcoming spring. Certain crops are planted. End of breeding season for centaurs. Last week of the month is for shearing salamanders and sheep.

(Spring) Bud Moon- The majority of planting is done this month. Start of cattle breeding.

(Spring) Knucker Moon- Rain storms tend to be frequent starting this month. Male knuckers start roaming in search of mates.

(Spring) Creeping Moon- Post-Estrus foals are born this month. Insects are prominent.

(Spring) Flower Moon- Brightly colored flowers are prominent. Edible flowers are harvested. Nectar to turn into sugar is harvested.

(Summer) Firedrake Moon- Midday siestas start this month.

(Summer) Indombe Moon- Second hottest month of the year.

(Summer) Rah’s Moon- Hottest month of the year. Post-estrus foals named are in this month.

(Summer) Green Moon- Temperatures start cooling again bringing more rain. Plants are vibrant and in full growth.

(Fall) Milk Moon- Start of the harvest season. Centaurs start foaling. Cattle eggs start hatching so cows start giving milk.

(Fall) Reaper Moon- Grains are harvested. Best time for hunting large herbivores. Post-estrus mating can occur this month.

(Fall) Honey Moon- Best month for honey hunting as bees are less active and hives are full from spring and fall foraging.

(Fall) Cheese Moon- End of milking season for cattle. Leftover milk is preserved as cheese.

(Winter) Spoken Moon- Centaur foals born earlier in the year get their names. Centaur herds hunker down for the winter, many tell stories by the fire.

(Winter) Dusk Moon- Last month of the year. The darkest part of the year.

30 Day Song(fic) Challenge: Day 18

I hadn't thought I'd get this one done, but here's today's Song(fic) Challenge entry! The prompt was "A song you like from an artist who is no longer living", and after multiple hours of going through playlists and discographies, I eventually ended up on "Grapefruit Juicy Fruit" by Jimmy Buffet. Yes, I am just as shocked as you are that this is my second Jimmy Buffet song of the month.

Compared to my other works this month, this fic is primarily based more on vibes/tone of the song and only a few lyrics, as opposed to fitting the majority of the lyrics, which I found surprisingly freeing! Additionally, this fic is brought to you by the fact that I just completed the Lurelin pirate quest in TotK today, and it just felt right to stick Link in the part of the game I myself ended at.

Of course, he couldn’t leave Lurelin, even when the job of pirate-slaying was done. Not when there was a promise of healing the scarred village, of rebuilding the charming huts he’d visited so often with Zelda. Of helping the Lurelin diaspora return to their homes. Everyone deserved to be able to go home.

Ocean water, still warm from the sun beating on Lurelin’s shallow bay all day, rushed up and over Link’s ankles before draining back in a motion that felt like it was pulling him ever so slowly further into the surf. He could feel it leaving debris clinging to his feet and legs—sand, mostly, but also small, dark particles he knew to be pulverized chunks of charcoal from Lurelin’s burnt buildings. They scraped, ever so slightly.

If Zelda were here, she might have commented on how they acted as an exfoliator, how charcoal was actually beneficial for the skin and even teeth.

Link raised his fermented palm fruit cider to his mouth, and took a long, deep swallow.

It was his third day in Lurelin, his fourth night. He’d arrived as the village fell into darkness, and eliminated one lone monster after the other when possible; whole camps at once when it wasn’t. He snacked on the roasted fish he stole from their fires. He napped between kills to keep his strength up. Even when the sun rose, he doggedly continued around the crescent moon of the village, finishing with the pirate ship in the bay. He’d been worried about the silver boss bokoblin, but between the two muddlebuds he’d fired onto the deck and the six shots from his savage lynel bow as he launched himself from the upper deck, it had gone down easier than his tropical beverage currently was.

Everyone deserved to be able to go home.

Link looked up into the heavens despite himself, at the galaxies reflecting on the sea that stretched out before him. Somewhere, on the other side of it, there was land, and people he’d never met and probably never would. He wondered if they’d ever heard tell of Hyrule’s Light Dragon in the last ten thousand years. Surely her story would have made it somewhere besides his own ears in all those lifetimes.

His gaze fell back to the surf, and he took another long draught of palm fruit cider.

Link had harvested logs from the evermeans along Atun Valley, loath as ever to cut down normal trees that wouldn’t just return from the blood moon’s gloom each month, but would have to slowly grow back themselves. Rather than utilize Rauru’s arm the entire time—he tried not to use it if he didn’t have to, it just didn’t…feel right—he pushed the fifteen logs one by one down the slopes towards the village. Luckily, he hadn’t needed to leave and return for the sheafs of rice Bolson requested; the lynel fight he’d struggled through in the rice field on the Kamah Plateau had been good for something, after all.

Tomorrow, Bolson was meant to finish up the foundations for the headsman’s home and Armes’ home. They’d decided to prioritize those buildings first, for the sake of the displaced and shelterless people already in the village; they’d move on to the inn next, for more housing while the news spread and Lurelines began to return in greater numbers. Bolson had mentioned something about central pillars as a next step as Link handed him a nail, but Link hadn’t been able to hear anything in detail over the pounding of his hammer.

That was okay. Link wasn’t in a rush. The wind had rather ceased filling his sails after he’d collected Zelda’s final Tear. Thank Hylia he’d already helped with the crises around Hyrule before that, or its people might still be languishing in their disasters.

His palm fruit husk ran dry. He tossed it lightly in his hand, appreciating its heft, and then let it drop to the sand beneath him.

Maybe he’d fall asleep on the beach tonight. The crashing of waves as the tide rolled in could drown out his thoughts as he tried to fall asleep; the eastern sun over the bay could awaken him bright and early for a long day of hard work. If he got washed out to sea, well, maybe that wouldn’t be too much of a problem either. Hylia would never free him from his labors, after all. He’d probably just wake up out on Eventide, or maybe some other island with some other problems he’d need to solve.

Somewhere out in the water ahead of him, a waterbird swooped down to spear a fish with its sharp beak. He couldn’t see it in the darkness, but recognized the whistling thrum of wingbeats, and the slightest dying splash of the porgy. The circle of life went on, even when something so horrible had happened to their habitat.

Link supposed he would have to go on, too. To finish his task here, and then take his rightful place in the cycle of violence, of blood moon and bloodshed, until he could finally rest.

Even if he rested alone.

Ready for The Summer: Strawberry Full Moon in Capricorn

Friday, Jun 21th, begins the Strawberry Moon Full Moon in the Sign of Capricorn. Strawberry Moon (or Rose Moons in Europe) derives its name from the harvest time for such fruit among the Algonquin tribes. The effect of the full moon will last over the next three days. Capricorn, cardinal Earth sign, is concerned with personal ambition, rules, boundaries and limits. At its best it can be highly ethical, self-directed, disciplined and industrious. At the worst, it can be callous, selfish, materialistic and abrasive.

I returned home last week mid-morning after working out at LA Fitness to find my little house utterly surrounded by marked and unmarked police cars! It’s always at that moment, you take pause and really ponder what have I done or as Sheldon Cooper PhD on The Big Bang Theory TV show would pontificate, “What fresh hell is this?” Come to find out some man sitting in his SUV next to our property was accousted by an assailant at knife point and relieved the driver of all of his money and his wallet. To me it represents the ying yang of life and the ebb and flow of how chaotic the full moon times can be. Later that day I would see our El Presidente' of our neighborhood association who would remind me about our Fall party in the 'hood being held at an historical home on sale right now for a mere 40 million dollars. The struggle is real and life is weird. Regardless of your role in this incarnation, give it your best to make it fun,creative and enjoyable. That’s all I know to do and keep on keeping on!
