As of 2021, who is the singer with the best-selling single of all time?

According to the 'Guinness World Records', Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' (1942) is the best-selling single worldwide, with an estimated sale of over 50 million copies. Written by Irving Berlin, the song featured in the film 'Holiday Inn' in 1942, before being released as a single later that year.

Crosby's recording spent eleven weeks on top of the Billboard charts during 1942. The song greatly appealed to listeners during World War II. Until the release of 'White Christmas', not many secular Christmas songs and films were released, but the success of Crosby's single encouraged song writers and film producers to focus on the Christmas holidays every year.

Ironically, 'White Christmas' was written by a Jewish immigrant to the United States. Irving Berlin helped establish Christmas as a secular holiday rather than solely a Christian festival.

Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby Jr. (1903-1977) was an American singer and actor, whose singing career lasted around fifty years. More than 1 billion records of his have been sold worldwide. In 1962, Crosby became the first person ever to receive the 'Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award'.

'White Christmas' has been covered and performed by many artists including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Bette Midler. Collectively, it has sold over 150 million copies.
