#Had this screenshot laying around for a while decided to redraw

Decided to post all the progress pictures I had of this, from sketch to final painting. This is my favorite digital painting I've ever done, lol. Short description of the process below the cut.

Step one: sketch on paper. I usually make sketches for Serious Art on paper first, because I feel like it's easier to play around and get something... loose, with the right feeling.

2. redraw it digitally. This one changed a lot, because I couldn't get the framing right digitally, so I pretty much redid the whole thing.

3. this is where I thought about the lighting. I've been trying to get more intentional about my lighting, because that's what separates good art from great art. So I threw in the shadows while trying to think of what would be the most dramatic, as well as support the themes of the picture.

The rabbit needed to be in the light, and I liked the idea the light coming from behind him, the place he's turning to look at. Like he's looking at all the bright and good things that he has lost... It's behind him, something he can't get back. I also wanted the old-looking / Caravaggio-esque feeling, with harsh shadows.

4:9. These are all just painting in over the sketch. You can see my palette, I color-picked from a screenshot of the beast, but I would also create random similar colors, I wasn't strict about the palette when I needed something slightly different, especially in bloody/wound areas.

I used the built-in gouache brush in clip studio paint. Almost all of the painting is on one layer.

As you can see, I didn't do things the traditional way, where you lay down a midtone and build up darks and lights... I just kinda jump into it.

My least favorite part was the teeth.

10. the final picture. I added details like dust motes in the light, and one of my favorite little tricks, adding a bit of glow around the brightest parts with an airbrush.

If I were going to change anything, it would be the clothing, and the arm holding the rabbit (especially the bicep area) because I feel like you can tell I just phoned it in. There's also something slightly wonky about the mouth, but it would take way too much work to ever fix, so I never will lol.

What if...

... Shirou was the one that died in the avalanche?

I’ve been thinking about this for quite a while and thought it would be nice to share some ideas I had and some screenshot redraws for an Swap AU where Atsuya Fubuki would be the only one to survive the car accident.

So, how would it be like?

Similar to Ichihoshi Hikaru’s story, Raimon folks would think Atsuya is actually Shirou. Atsuya created his brother’s personality inside his mind, so when Shirou’s in control, his eyes glow in a beautiful light blue tone, his hair is down, but still resembling some of Atsuya’s features like the bangs and strands aside the cheeks. Atsuya is gentle, behaved and timid when Shirou’s in control, and he prefers to be this way around others. Shirou’s personality permits him to make friends with others, gain people’s trust and be kind to people. This way, he’s not ever alone.

Atsuya’s true personality is ruthless, impatient and can only shine on the fields. During soccer matchs, he puts on his scarf, his hair gets a little wild and his eyes return to their natural color, in a more sharp style. 

No one is aware the Shirou Fubuki they know is actually Atsuya Fubuki, just like the biggest surprise we had when we discovered Mitsuru was actually Hikaru. Anyone watching would think he’s just the redhair cutie with an dazzling agressive personality inside him. The defender Fubuki is exceptional too. When told to play on the defense, he lays down his scarf and play nice. With others, he's friendly and quickly able to earn someone's sympathy.

“Nice play, Fubuki” 

“Thank you, captain”

Raimon takes Fubuki in Inazuma Caravan as their ace striker, and things start to get out of control when he starts to lose hold of his personalities after being affected by the current events. Fubuki’s best partner leaves the team and on top of that he thinks he’s getting useless as a striker getting his shoots defended. Shirou’s personality grows greedy and selfish, trying to take his brother’s personality place and make things work better than him. 

“I’m sorry”

Shirou’s personality can be extremely manipulative, as he tries to convince Atsuya the others are better off without him and he should let him decide the plays. Atsuya’s personality on the other hand does not want to obey his big brother. 

"Leave everything to me, Atsuya. When the time is to come, I'll let you make the goals. Atsuya, why do you never listen me? ATSUYA!"

"LEAVE ME BE!!"

"You know you're not trust worthy, Atsuya. Don't you know the friends you made are because of me? I'm the one they count on, Atsuya, not you. See their faces? They want me around. They don't need you to blow everything up!"

And that is when we get to the roots of the problem, with the Raimon learning about his double personality and the car accident that took his family. Coach Hitomiko tells them about how only one of the brothers survived. So now, the team's aware of his condition and how Atsuya is the one scoring goals for them.

“Together, you are perfect”

His idea of perfection, based on what his mother said, is to be just like his brother. He wants to have his brother on his side because with Shirou’s personality, Atsuya feels protected. Feels that someone is there to shelter him from the loneliness, to put a leash on him and tell him what to do, because without his big brother, he is weak, he doesn't know the way, and he knows that people wouldn't need him anymore. He fears rejection more than anything in the world.

"The problem was I needed him"

"Are you talking about your brother?"

But with his friends' help, he learns he doesn't need to be perfect to enjoy soccer, and his friends accept him for who he is, so he doesn't need to be anyone but himself. And he will never be alone with his friends alongside him. Having said that...

“This is the ace striker, Atsuya Fubuki”

It's a surprise for everyone when they discover Atsuya is the survivor one. Well, almost everyone. I think you guessed Gouenji knew all along.

So, this is the basic concept of this AU I've imagined. I'm sorry for the quality of some drawings, but I did my best. I’ts just some silly ideas and drawings but I hope you guys liked it. Tbh, @fubuki99bae​ @shawn-and-aiden-frost-9​ and their love for Fubuki inspired me to introduce this and let people imagine how could it be to have a completely, yet not so different Fubuki from the one we've known in OG saga. I also want to tag and thank my old friend @peachesandglitter​ and the power of her Inazuma headcanons, because thanks to her I was able to bring out some of my own.
