Last week was a lot. I told my team that I was leaving for another experience. They are sad and processing but also very happy for me. We cried a little at the end of the meeting. The initial support structure I had in place was OK but a few parts were confusing/concerning so I adjusted those and I think they feel better. My boss isn't sure where they will officially report into yet but I just made the call and confirmed who their direct manager will be. I've let all of my partners across the company know which has been weird, but OK.
The work in the new role is SO intense, I'm learning everything as fast as I can but also have to apply new learns to what I really don't understand yet to a plan that has to be localized into multiple languages by next week. It's nuts but there's no option not to do it, so I'm working a lot this weekend. I was experiencing such a confidence crisis but a few meetings on Friday validated I am moving in the right direction. For the first time in so long, I had anxiety dreams about work which in a weird way is a good sign - I was just kind of....dead, going through the motions, not super busy, not really caring about anything. My brain is waking up. It's where I am at my best. There will be a time for another way of moving through the world but right now for this next year/last experience, I want to be driving something hard and seeing the impact. I want to push myself to take risks and not be an invisible middle manager. Shirley said that I am like a little joey (baby kangaroo) - I am mostly comfortable living my emotions through animals and I have a tendency of hiding like a little joey. I already see this job will make me deal with conflict, stand in the strength of my opinion instead of being accommodating and malleable, afraid of making someone upset. There's such personal growth here for me.
The Alki remodel continues to provide a number of surprises. After we found so many concerns in the electric wiring in the lower unit, I asked the contractor to have the electrician check the upper unit as well. He couldn't even do much given the electrical panel is over 30 years old, so I had it replaced. We also repaired some cracks in the roof and an HVAC person is coming out to assess what I should do to upgrade the 30 year furnace. It's a lot but I am comforted to know these upgrades will make everything so much stronger and safer, I'm much more confident in renting it now. Another fun thing, the contractor found an outdoor shower on the side of the house so we're going to replace it with this and create a little area with a sauna, so someone can do a cold plunge in the ocean, and then wash off in the shower and take a sauna. It's actually not expensive and the contractor can build it for us. I'm excited!
Health-wise, I signed up for a service that will make it easier for me to get the updates to my health that I need. I got 16 vials of blood taken on Friday for a number of tests - a full panel including a lot of early detection stuff.
This is going to be such a good year. It already is. I trust it. I trust that good things are here, that I deserve them and I am going to meet every moment with new strength, new capability and create more silence so those that are guiding me can be heard even more clearly.

I am so very, very tired of this whole electrical deal. We had our HVAC system replaced and fuse box/service upgraded, and were advised to have our electrical line from the road to house buried since we were eligible due to a change in service and apparently DTE won't do it unless you're changing service and it's a fucking HAZARD here, it's been for years. The install went flawlessly. Dealing with my fucking township has been one nightmare of communication after another.
I scheduled two different inspections that had to be done before DTE would come out, an electrical and a mechanical. I don't know why they wouldn't just do one for both, but apparently they won't. They tell me the first guy, mechanical, will be here between 9am and 2pm. I'm up at 7am to wait. I sit in my front room by the front door all day. Around 2 I get a knock and it's the electrical guy but I thought it was the mechanical guy, since I haven't heard from anyone else yet. I take him around back to look at the AC, which he does, and then I go to take him to the basement to look at the furnace, and find a bright orange "NOT APPROVED - LOCKED OUT" tag on my back door. Which is like ???? I was literally here all day??? NO ONE knocked until electrical guy showed up. So I take him down, he looks at the electrical, and then also the furnace, and then tells me to call the number on the tag and tell him he looked at all of it, including the other guy's part, and it's fine. SOUNDS FAKE BUT OK
So I call, and explain to karen what's happened. she says she has to wait for the reports to come in so she can verify. I said okay, that's fine, Electrical Guy said he would say so. I call back when she told me to, and get an answering machine. So I leave a message. at just after 5pm I get a call back from Karen who says the reports say the electrical passed but the mechanical was locked out. I explain again that Electrical Guy said both were fine, can she please check with him? She says oh right, you called about that, I will talk to both of them and let you know what they say.
Then my install company calls, because they have stuff to do after DTE does their stuff that DTE can't do until the township does stuff, and says that they got notification that electrical passed but mechanical was "locked out" (literally and figuratively not true, I was home and the doors were not locked) and they are going to try to charge me $45 for the inspection they say I wasn't home for, despite that I was sitting maybe 15 feet from the front door all day. The guy left the tag on my BACK DOOR for some reason, which makes me think he went around back and knocked instead of the front door like a normal human being.
Anyway, I am going to be calling back in a little bit and bitching until someone passes my goddamn inspections so I can stop having a live wire sitting on my roof. It should not be this hard to get a problem fixed.

Furnace we were assured was in great shape when we bought the house (less than 2 years ago) completely shit the bed this weekend—right at the start of winter.
Still paying off taxes for pulling from my 401k to purchase the house (thanks to the orange fascist’s original tax BS—fuck anyone who voted for him now and then) and paying off the urgent drainage repairs from the first year here.
We’d saved some money to go to my brother’s wedding before getting hit with the tax bill, so we were able to do that but there wasn’t anything left over.
We worked with an HVAC guy to try and fix this ancient thing, at least to tide us over a year or two until we could save again to get it replaced. $900 in parts and labor later, and in less than 30 minutes the new part has blown out.
Something worse is wrong with the furnace that he wasn’t able to identify before we sunk cash into the replacement part.
So now we’re further in the hole and still need a replacement, including all new ductwork because our furnace is a completely different shape/size than current ones.
We already had to replace the ancient Sump Pump when it suddenly burned out AND get hornets removed from our walls this past summer.
I’m so fucking tired.
And I’m cold.
Because the furnace is busted.

In other news, I'm a little under halfway through my final writing class where I rewrite pretty much my entire novel from nothing. This is the fourth one of those.
It's the one I've been writing about for years. The one where the main guy marries an orc at the end, though in the last draft it isn't made super explicit that they're married. They just live together and have a kid. I guess he does call her his wife, though. That's pretty explicit.
I'm so tired of rewriting this thing, especially the opening chapters. But I'm about to do it again, because my tutor wants me to.
I'm also tired of being told over and over that I'm telling and not showing when I say things like "She felt horrible" or "He was happy about that" in the prose. Like, I'm sorry, man. I like putting names to my emotions in real life. Can I at least do it for the autistim-coded character who absolutely would stop and think about what he's feeling at any given moment because that's what I do when I start feeling overwhelmed by an emotion? I put a name on it? It's some cognitive behavioral therapy shit I learned years ago, or something like it, I did learn it years ago as part of therapy, at least.
I'm just tired in general.
I got a new furnace and AC. It cost me thousands of dollars. I had to get a loan. I'll be making payments on it for the next two years. That's part of home ownership, baby. It took several more days than it should have because someone from the city had to come check the work of the HVAC guys who installed it and he found a dang ol' gas leak in my basement, which, HEY, that's fucking terrifying. But it's fixed now. The guy came back today and verified it and everything.
It all sucks so bad.
If I keep automatically contributing to my 401k at my current rate, I might be able to afford to retire in my 60s, though, assuming I can keep working for that long. Assuming that the world is still inhabitable for me at that point. I honestly wonder sometimes, but who doesn't, these days, other than people already in their 60s or above?
I have no faith that my novel, when I finally publish it after half a dozen years or more of working on it, will sell even a hundred copies. It'd be cool if it does, and I'm going to work hard on it and hope that it does, but I don't think it will.
It doesn't even have a title and I've been working on it for four and a half years already. Christ.
Alright. That's all for now.
I have good days and bad days.

An Update on Your Friendly Neighborhood Alexa
It’s been a while!! I’ve missed out on a lot of discourse and drama (good!) but also on friends’ content, inside jokes, and memes (bad!!). Here’s where I’ve been for the past… year, basically!!
The biggest news: My husband and I were house-hunting for several months, which meant getting my student loans out of default, fixing my credit score, and then the stress of finding houses, falling in love with houses only for the sales to fall through, then finding a livable place in an okay location, working with multiple lenders to find an okay enough mortgage, price negotiations, sorting out our apartment lease to either break it or have two monthly payments, working as much overtime as possible to afford the down payment, and (FINALLY) moving out of our apartment and into our home. This all happened by December.
Then the usual holiday season, which meant working MORE overtime for bills, gifts, and travel to family members. Then on we got into a minor accident miles away from family where our car was undrivable in winter conditions. We got home several days late to a 40-degree home and find out our furnace died. The cats were okay, but definitely stressed about the cold and that we were gone for so long (weekend trip became an almost week-long trip). Did you know that finding emergency HVAC on Christmas is difficult? I was spoiled by apartment life.
After the holidays was kind of a fugue state where I worked, slept, and rarely socialized outside of a small group of friends. March and May were especially rough for personal reasons. I definitely self-isolated myself without realizing it. I don’t even have any art or writing to show for it, since I didn’t make anything.
Got back into therapy, my meds are getting adjusted, and I was diagnosed with ADHD and PTSD. I’m working on getting back in touch with the friends I made through this fandom, but being away for so long built up a huge amount of anxiety about not knowing what’s going on, causing a self-perpetuating cycle.
I’m now at a place where I can get past that for the most part, but the guilt is still there.
I’m hoping I’ll be able to post regularly again, along with drawing and writing.

What is HVAC and how it works?
HVAC, or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, is a system that is designed to maintain indoor air quality and temperature within a particular building or space. The system comprises several components that work together to ensure optimal heating, cooling, and ventilation. This blog will discuss what HVAC is, its various components, and how it works.
What is HVAC?
HVAC is an acronym that stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. The primary function of the system is to regulate the temperature and air quality within a building or space. HVAC systems are found in a wide range of settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
HVAC Components
An HVAC system is made up of several components that work together to achieve its primary function. The main components of an HVAC system include:
1. Furnace or boiler: This is part of the system that provides heating. Furnaces use natural gas, propane, or electricity to generate heat, while boilers use water or steam.
2. Air Conditioner: This component of the system provides cooling. Air conditioners use refrigerant to absorb heat from the indoor air and transfer it outside.
3. Heat Pump: A heat pump is an all-in-one heating and cooling system that transfers heat from one location to another. In the summer, it removes heat from indoor air to cool the space, and in the winter, it pulls heat from outdoor air to warm the space.
4. Ducts: Ducts are channels that transport air throughout the building. They distribute heated or cooled air from the furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump to different rooms.
5. Thermostat: A thermostat is a device that controls the temperature of the HVAC system. It turns the system on and off and regulates the temperature based on the desired settings.
6. Air Handler: The air handler is a component of the HVAC system that regulates the circulation of air. It contains a blower that pushes air through the ducts and filters that remove contaminants from the air.
What is the HVAC Procedure?
HVAC systems work by using the laws of thermodynamics to regulate the temperature and air quality within a space. The laws of thermodynamics state that heat flows from warmer to cooler areas and that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred. HVAC systems use this principle to transfer heat from one location to another and to maintain a constant temperature within the space.
The process of heating and cooling starts with the furnace or air conditioner. In the case of a furnace, natural gas or propane is burned to produce heat. This heat is then transferred to the air handler, where it is distributed through the ducts to the different rooms in the building. In the case of an air conditioner, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the indoor air and transfers it outside, leaving cool air to be distributed through the ducts.
The thermostat is the device that controls the temperature of the HVAC system. It is set to the desired temperature, and when the temperature falls below or rises above that setting, it sends a signal to the furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump to turn on or off. The thermostat also regulates the fan in the air handler, ensuring that the heated or cooled air is distributed evenly throughout the building.
Ducts are the channels that transport heated or cooled air throughout the building. They are usually made of metal or fibreglass and can be rectangular, round, or oval in shape. The ducts are connected to the air handler and distribute air to the different rooms in the building.
The air handler is the component of the HVAC system that regulates the circulation of air. It contains a blower that pushes air through the ducts and filters that remove contaminants from the air. The air handler also contains a heat exchanger, which helps transfer heat from the furnace to the air handler.
Conclusion: The HVAC system is an essential component of modern buildings and homes. It provides comfortable indoor air quality and thermal comfort.
