Thoughts,,

So I’m depressed, kinda why I cant really dedicate myself to this,, but I’m kinda thinking I wanna move this blog in a new direction and I promise that I’m gonna try stay dedicated. I want to start using this as a place I can really express myself. Sooo I’m gonna change up the things I post, gonna still put music on but will possibly add pictures I take and in due time (hopefully I don’t pussy out,, sooon i hope) will be posting my creative writing, if you like anything please reblog :)

UPON COMPLETING #WHOLE30

Well it's day 31 and I'm still heeeeeere! A few thoughts on completing a month of eating no dairy, grains, legumes or added sugar:

1. I do feel pretty good vs. were I was in December and November! In that, I more consistently have "good days". I have more energy, my mood is better, and I am for sure more "clear headed" and focused more often, both in and outside of work. I feel more awake on the whole, I have more energy, and I don't crash around 3pm. Drinking tea (instead of coffee or diet coke) has helped keep my energy up (while also hydrating!), but I'm sure the science of maintaining steady blood sugar over the day is a big contributor also. I don't know if it's any one part of the diet that's contributing to this - i.e., cutting gluten - but I think it's probably the combination of several good choices at once, as well as more fluids, better quality of sleep - and just the confidence boost of sticking to a commitment and feeling much more in control of my food intake.

2. Another important contributor to how I feel, and to making healthy food choices, has come from taking an active approach to managing stress this month. I know stress is a trigger for consuming unhealthy foods for me, and living through that this month has been enlightening (thank god for emergency almond milk cashew butter smoothies and chocolate coconut cocoa Larabars). Life and work isn't always going to be easy, but hopefully pro-actively managing my load in and outside of work, as well as recognizing my response to stress, can help me stay in control going forward.

3. I've come this far, so I'm going to keep it going! The plan is to stay on the #whole30 program for the most part, with choiceful exceptions, at least until the end of March. So basically, paleo. The diet I literally used to make fun of other people for doing. But, such is life!

4. All in all, I lost about 11 lbs over the month, which definitely makes it the fastest pounds-for-time program I've done. Using the Weight Watchers app I've also had good results, but it took more time (which isn't a bad thing). I am admittedly worried that it's all going to come back as soon as a strand of pasta passes my lips. But I'm hoping that careful re-integration will help me preserve my hard work.

5. I'm interested to see how my body reacts when I start adding dairy (i.e. yogurt) and grains (i.e. pasta) back in. Per the direction of the #whole30 book, I'm going to try to do it one food group at a time, to ease myself back in and see how I feel. So, no pizza for the time being, which is a bummer but probably for the best. 

6. It's true that my cravings for sugary foods have pretty much gone away, and I have generally felt satiated after meals. When I didn't, I made up a smoothie with unsweetened almondmilk or had a piece of fruit, which usually did the trick.

7. The challenge of cooking delicious wholesome, satisfying food with just meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts and oils was really fun, and turned up some surprisingly good recipes that I've already made again! I've posted my favorite ones on this blog, and will continue to do so. Plus, there are so many more to try, including all of these: http://www.bonappetit.com/gallery/whole30-recipes-that-taste-good

8. I am and will definitely be more choiceful in my food decisions going forward. As I add treats & cheats back in, I'll definitely self-check to ask: is it worth it? For instance, a bit of soy sauce & sriracha for a stir fry, or a sample of the latest dessert trend (scoop shop style cookie "Do" anyone?!). The key is to make every exception a mindful choice - and not to have too many in any given week. Hopefully after a while it'll be more second nature.   

9. Overall, the program has been very empowering - it's a real buzz to feel in control of my diet and my body and see real results in the mirror and on the scale. But, now I'm genuinely worried about losing that power and going back to old habits from before. I find myself anxious about returning to a world with "no rules" - but that's just it, right? Learning to make good food choices, in real life? I've done a pretty strict mental and dietary reset - now it's about keeping myself honest and practicing the art of making good choices in a context where there are many options available, and where stress and lack of time is a given. It's also been interesting following various #whole30 participants on social media, and observing how blurry the line can sometimes be between celebrating healthy eating and "thinspiration" - i.e. positive reinforcement of extreme dieting and/or an unhealthily thin body type. For an interesting listen about the line between healthy eating and disorder, check out the episode of The Sporkful podcast from January 9th, 2017, titled "Raina One Year Later", featuring commentary from a young woman and comedian Margaret Cho. Okay so im looking into buying a motorcycle this summer. Ill be turning 18, and have always wanted a bike. So i was looking at how much insurance would cost me for it because i hear that its expensive and im a full time student and work minimum wage job, so its not like i have money just to shoot out my *** for fun. I was looking at progressive, because they show instant online quotes so i dont have to actually call in and give my real name and social security # and stuff like that. So i go onto progressive's, and enter all my real info like age and stuff(but lie about my actual address and name and email cause i dont want constant ads and spam). And i got cheaper than expected quotes.....So i put in, 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250r. Male. Turning 18 in july. Put in that i have motorcycle endorsement and taken safety course(i havent yet, but i will by the time i actually own a bike and have to buy insurance for real). No accidents or tickets. 0 years riding experience(although i ran multiple quotes and noticed price drops by $29 for a 12month policy if youve had even 1 year of riding experience, which is nice). And i got a quote for $285 12month policy. For Bodily Injury & Property Damage 50/100/25. Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury 25/50. $100 deductible on comprehensive for bike(again i ran multiple quotes, and changing the deductible amount on comprehensive only saves a few bucks). $500 deductible for collision(this deductible amount changes your rate incredibly). No other coverage. Got quoted $285...seems kinda cheap to me considering im so young? Not complaining that i save money....just wondering if this sounds normal? Random insurance question, lets say im riding my bike and going at a good speed, say 45+mph. Then fall and completely eat ****. I injure and damage only myself and my bike. Lets say my bike needs some repairs or maybe even replacing, and my leg is broken or something like that. Will any insurance cover any costs since it was my fault to my own personal injury? I spent the whole night trying all the websites that my friends told me about. The shocking fact is that many of them refused to give me a quote because I hold an international license, not a UK one. Even those websites which accepted that requested a huge amount of money (i.e. not less than 1, 200-1, 600) which is much higher than the price of the car itself. I wonder if there's a way to sort this out or if there's any alternative solution that saves money for me. I don't want to go through any further driving tests in the UK.
