Why Indian Weddings are incomplete without dance?
When we say Indian weddings are so much fun, we mean it and you would agree too. From dressing up in the brightest and blingiest outfits to elaborative ceremonies and functions, and of course the food, Indian weddings are a lot of fun. But what makes Indian Weddings stand out among the crowd is the mad dancing. “Shadi Wala Dance” is actually a thing in India which is specially choreographed. While the bride and the groom are surely a centre of attraction at weddings, the second most awaited moments at the weddings are the dance performances of family & friends. To help you get started, team Ucanji with their skilled dance choreographers have a list of Bollywood Wedding Dance videos and choreographies that may help you nail your performance.
Tumblr media
The most popular dance forms that are performed at every Indian wedding are Bhangra and Bollywood.
Well of course Bhangra because Indian weddings are incomplete without some full-on energetic Bhangra moves. Although it’s a traditional dance form of Punjab, entire Northern India dances to the beats of Punjabi dhol and rhythms. Bhangra Dancing is all about having fun and stomping one's feet to the rhythm of the music. A chance to dance to the distinctive rhythms and melodies of Punjabi music is an integral part of the experience. Bhangra beautifully mirrors the liveliness and dynamism of the people of Punjab, and a Bhangra performance during a wedding turns into a mass performance with every guest joining in.
Bollywood has a massive impact on everything Indian, especially weddings. Every wedding will have at least one filmy performance on ‘Bole Chudiyan’ or any other fancy Bollywood song. Dancing to the famous hook steps of Bollywood Songs has now become a wedding ritual. Whether you are a newcomer or a Bollywood dancing aficionado, our online dance class is the perfect place for you to explore your talent. Learn from our expert dance choreographers all basic to advance level Bollywood dancing. So, the next time you are at a wedding function, you can ace the dance floor with your perfect Bollywood dance moves.

Importance of Dancing at Indian Weddings
Indian Weddings have a ceremony completely dedicated to singing and dancing, that’s how much we Indians love to dance. The Sangeet ceremony is the most important part of the wedding, yes, more than the actual wedding pheras. No, not really but it’s the lifeblood of a wedding. Friends and family begin their performance rehearsals as the big day draws near. Under the guidance of skilled choreographers and interesting dance choreographies, learning wedding dance performances gets easier with Ucanji.
Every Indian wedding is different from one other depending on the cultural background of the bride and the groom. There are Punjabi weddings, Rajasthani weddings, Gujarati weddings, South Indian weddings, and many more. Each has different traditions. But one thing that binds them all together is the dancing ritual.
Weddings in India have transformed from being austere and all about traditions to glamorous and cinematic. Gone are the days when the sangeet ceremony used to be all about traditional “Shadi ke geet”. Now the sangeet ceremony is a planned event of the extravagant musical affair, which isn’t restricted to just females. It has earned its place as a pre-wedding event where the entire family from both sides dance their heart off. Wedding Dance is a thing now and learning wedding dance online is the latest trend.
Tumblr media
Indian Dancing can be as extreme as anything else in India. Dancing in India roots in the ancient form of art that represents the broader spectrum of Indian Heritage. The conclusion is that Indians love to dance. It’s an integral representation of Indian Culture and Indian weddings are the epitome of India’s cultural beauty.

Evolution Of The Indian Saree Throughout The Years
History Of Saree
Saree has existed for almost 5000 years, dating back to the Indus Valley culture (3300-1300 B.C.E.). One of the oldest clothing items still in use today is the Indian saree.
A lot of people think that in the second century BC, Alexander the Great brought this article of clothing to India. Many Greek women in the Mauryan court wore a long piece of fabric called a "Chiton," which was thrown over one shoulder, and the rest was used as a pleated skirt. A large number of Mauryan emperors wed Greek women. This had an impact on South Asia's and India's fashion.
Many Indian goddesses are pictured wearing sarees, and a saree is likewise seen as a tribute to the gods. A traditional dress in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal is the Saree or saree. It is still popular for daily or special wear among Indian women. Indian ladies believe that wearing a saree, jewellery, and a Bindi on her forehead is the epitome of feminity.
The Traditional Indian Saree
The Sanskrit word "Saadi," which refers to the Sattika fabric type, is where the word "saree" first appeared. Hindu scripture claims that Sattika is the culmination of a three-piece ensemble. This consists of the Stanapatta, a chest band, the Uttariya, a veil worn over the shoulder, and the Antriya, the lower clothing.
This entire ensemble is known as poshak, a general name for a costume. Antaria later developed into the Bhairnivasani skirt known today as the Lehenga or Ghaghra. By the first century, the stanpatta had developed into a bodice, and the northern, uttariya which was worn as a veil over the head now, had become the dupatta.
Evolution Of The Saree
After surviving hundreds of years of changes, invasions, colonizations, and globalization, the saree has now become a much-coveted, elegant, and sexy attire that women wear all over the world.
The saree gives an unparalleled sense of luxury, grace, elegance, and femininity. When wrapped properly, a saree can enhance the female shape. Whether on the red carpet, at a friend's wedding, or at a workplace party, a saree is unquestionably a head-turner.
The most adaptable clothing is undoubtedly a saree. The same saree can be styled in various ways, paired with various shirts, even pants, and ornamented in various ways. Sarees exist in various materials, colours, and patterns, with varied prints, work, and more. By getting a few, essential designer Indian sarees online, one can have an incredibly diverse wardrobe.
Several factors explain why sarees have remained popular as clothing items for ages.
It is versatile
A saree can be draped or worn in a variety of ways. There are as many diverse draping styles in India as there are states. Some examples include the Gujarati draping style, the Rajasthani draping style, the Bengali draping style, the Maharashtrian style of wearing saree, Styles from the South, etc. In addition to the conventional styles, one might experiment with brand-new approaches. Even the more established traditional looks can be worn now with the available one-minute saree in U.S.A.
It has a sensual, sexual appeal
No other garment flatters the female body as the saree, and the fluidity of the drape gives the wearer a very feminine and sensual appeal. There is a saree for practically every occasion, whether it is an office party, a festival, a special supper for two, a wedding, a get-together with friends, etc. You can get designer Indian sarees online that can be adorned in several ways to seem festive or casual.
It is high in glamour quotient
When wearing a saree, one feels regal and glamorous. The saree is lavish and flamboyant.
It comes in many varieties
It is available in a wide range of materials, colours, works, and styles. It can be worn with a variety of blouses. Designers are continually reworking and reinventing it, making it more and more modern. The latest is a one-minute saree in U.S.A., which makes it easier to wear for people who do not know how to drape a saree.
The saree has dominated the runway and is poised to rule the world thanks to its beauty, adaptability, and grace. In light of this, the saree will continue to leave its imprint on the fashion world for many years to come for the same reasons it has stood the test of time.

BIOGRAPHY
When Isha and Divamani found out they were expecting, it was a great surprise that they were having twins and even more that one was a boy and the other a girl. With two kids on the way, the young couple wanted to move to a nice community from their place in Topsham and ended up in Bridgeport by the time their son and daughter were born. They bought a place in Point Breeze and started their lives there. Isha was a stay at home mom while Divamani worked in town as an accountant and while trying to blend in to the ideal of a normal American family, they also stayed true to their Gujarati culture. They went to school when they became of age in Bridgeport and on weekends and holidays, they’d go to Topsham to worship and celebrate there with family and friends.
This was the time Ashi remembered being happiest for a long time. She was extremely close to her father and in her memories, she knew there were times that she would just sit on his lap while he did his work and she did homework. They would dance together at celebrations if she asked and she loved when he’d take her and her brother to the office on days off. She loved it there and she loved spending any moment she could with him. It was during a solo trip with him when she was eight to the office when things changed. It was later in the evening when they were heading home and Ashi was asleep in the backseat. She didn’t wake up until a strange woman’s voice woke her and she was on the side of the road. There were flashing lights all over and the car was a mess. She cried for her dad, but he never showed and that evening was the last time she saw her dad.
The months after have always been things that Ashi barely remembers. She didn’t remember the funeral ceremony that happened and she barely remembered anything else other than her family moving to Topsham when her and her brother turned nine to stay with her grandparents. It wasn’t long after that her mom started seeing a grief counselor she was seeing named Robert Andrews and within a blink of an eye, the two were married and they moved in with Robert and his daughter. From day one, the girls never liked each other and this just led to Ashi starting to act out; especially as she started to become a teenager.
It started with slamming doors and blasting music. Ashi started refusing to go to worship or consider the Andrews any part of her family. And when her mom had her younger brother, she hated it all even more that this was how things were actually going to be. When high school started, she started sneaking out, coming home late, and arguing with her parents and step-sister became more frequent. She remembered that whole time as constant arguing. And it got worse when she started dating behind their backs; especially when it got more serious with Travis McMann.
Her and Travis were horrible for each other. He fed into her acting out and she let him. They’d go out together and drink and she started doing drugs with him. The more the arguing happened at home, the more she was with Travis and the more they were doing things her mother and step-father hated. It all came to a head the day her and her brother turned eighteen. Her mom was trying to get her to stay for a family dinner, but Ashi wanted to go out. Robert stepped in and they started arguing more and more until Ashi went upstairs, packed a bag, and she and Travis left.
The two drove for a long time before they ended up in Atlantic City. The second they got there, they eloped before going into New York City and trying to get their lives going there. It was hard as they spent more than they should’ve on their addictions and had to get help from Travis's parents. However, this required them to move to where Travis’s uncle was in Colorado so he could help him with his construction business. So, they did and they got this little trailer there while Ashi started working as a waitress. While she was trying to quit doing the drugs, Travis was still doing them and would convince her now and then to do so. It was one of these times that she almost overdosed and ended up in the hospital. When she woke, she found out she was pregnant when this happened, but ended up miscarrying because of the overdose and stress on her body.
After all this, she went home to find Travis gone and piles of bills and everything to be paid. Ashi didn’t know what to do and when Travis’s uncle came knocking to see where his nephew was, he found her crying on the floor. He decided to help her and got things taken care of before letting her move into the loft in his garage under the condition she didn’t use again. She agreed and they helped her through her withdrawals and she started working at the construction company as a secretary. She even started to get in touch with her faith again and started attending temple once again and when she could, she finally got divorced from Travis.
Ashi ended up working at the construction company for years and after a work accident, she ended up meeting someone from her childhood. Sunny was now a paramedic in Boulder, but the two went to school together as kids. This reunion had them flirting and talking more and more until finally, they went out on a date and made things official. Both were incredibly happy and even moved in together after a few months. Everything seemed to be perfect. Then suddenly, Travis came into her life. She was trying hard to ignore him, but it was getting harder when he was working at the construction company once again. He kept saying he wanted her back and all these things and after a bad day that started with her step-sister sending her an article about her step-father and the family that didn’t even mention Ashi, she went to him and relapsed.
Hating herself, she admitted to Sunny what had happened and the two argued, but they finally came to the conclusion that Ashi needed to get some help. So, after talking with her brother, he was able to get her aunt to talk to her mother to get her some help. The two broke up and she ended up in Seattle at a rehab center and then went to Topsham to stay with her family. However, the energy there quickly became something she didn’t want and she ended up moving to her hometown of Fabllrook with her brother.
The last months following her return in September to Bridgeport have been great for her recovery. From a pleasant surprise that Sunny moved back to town too and them getting back together and moving in and her going back to her childhood temple has been amazing. It all got even more amazing when her and Sunny got engaged and started to plan the wedding. The only thing she hates about it all is the fact her family and herself are still so estranged to the point she won’t be inviting them to the reception her and Sunny are planning, except for her brother. She wishes she could make up for the time she wasn’t the best, but knows she can’t dwell on that forever. She just wants to live happily ever after and wants everything to be good.

Gujarati Culture, Dress and Food - The Heart and Soul of Gujarat
The diverse and vibrant state of Gujarat has a significant contribution to the cultural aspect of India. The sheer simplicity and amiability of Gujaratis have made them a flourishing community. The state of Gujarat boasts a vibrant art, architecture, culture, and heritage; all of which is quite evident in the day-to-day lives of the locals. The diversity exhibited by Gujarat is a result of the various ethnic groups constituting Gujarat's population; including Indic and Dravidian groups.
1. Art and Culture of Gujarat
Tumblr media
The vast array of handcrafted products displaying intricate Gujarati art forms are not only popular in our country, but are a well-known entity all across the globe. These products include furniture, jewellery, embroidered garments, leatherwork, metalwork, baked clay articles and mirror work. Gujarat serves as the producer of some of the most creative and elegant furnishings that include bedcovers, quilts, cushion covers and table mats. Intricate dainty patterns are woven on the patola sarees with high precision. The traditional art forms of the state play a significant role in preserving its rich heritage.
MusicThe folk music of Gujarat is known as Sugam Sangeet and has acclaimed world-wide fame. The range of musical instruments utilized in Gujarati folk music includes turi, manjira, ektaro, jantar, zanz pot drum, prabhati, dhol and ravan hattho. Bhajans are also incorporated in their folk songs. Bardic tradition is another major type of folk Gujarati music.
Dance Forms
Since Gujarati people are quite enthusiastic and amiable, they have many traditional forms of dance. The four major forms of dance are Dandiya Raas, Garba, Padhar, and Garbi.
Dandiya Raas is performed by both men and women and utilizes the movement of bamboo sticks, known as Dandiyas. It has ancient roots and was believed to be played by the beloved Gopis of Lord Krishna.
Garba is usually performed by the females in a circular formation. It is performed with reverence of the feminine form of the divinity.
Garbi is traditionally performed by only the men and incorporates the use of instruments like dhol and manjiras.
Padhar is mainly performed by the rural communities near Nal Lake.
2. Customs and Traditions of Gujarat
Due to many religions coexisting in the state, Gujaratis believe in various Gods and Goddesses. Embracing different religious faiths, Gujaratis demonstrate a vibrant mix of Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, and Buddhism. This amalgamation of cultures is quite evident in their beliefs, customs, traditions, institutions, and practices. The natives display a balanced lifestyle due to the perfect system of learning, a blend of religious practices and the development of artistic traits.
3. Languages and Religions
Although Gujarati is the mother tongue of the natives of Gujarat, many other languages are widely spoken throughout the state. Gujarati is an Indo-Aryan language derived from Sanskrit and is the 26th most widely used language in the world. Gujarati has about 11 different dialects, spoken in various parts of the state.
Since the state of Gujarat shares its border with Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan; a small section of its population speak the native languages of the neighbouring states, namely Marwari, Marathi, Hindi along with Urdu and Sindhi.
The natives of Kutch-a semi-arid region in Gujarat-speaks Kachchi language, which is quite an important language of the area.
4. Fairs and Festivals
The fairs and festivals of Gujarat showcase the real vibrancy and colours of its diverse culture. Thousands of people flock to Gujarat to witness the extravaganza during festivals like Navratri Mahotsav, Deepawali, Rathyatra and Kite festival. There are some fairs as well that are organized in the state every year, namely- Shamlaji Melo, Bhadra Purnima Fair, and Mahadev Fair. The Rann Utsav is a major festival and witnesses an exquisite carnival of music, dance and natural beauty.
5. Food of Gujarat
A traditional and authentic Gujarati meal consists of dal, roti, rice, vegetables, salad, chaas, farsan followed by a sweet dish. Gujarati cuisine is quite similar to that of Maharashtra, and most of the Gujaratis are vegetarian. Some of the famous Gujarati delicacies include dhokla, fafda, khandvi, dhal Dhokli, Undhiyu, handvo, Ganthia, dal Wada, khakhra, and Thepla. In Gujarati dishes, the flavors are a blend of sweet, spicy and sour tastes. Each region of the state has a distinctive flavor associated with its local food. A typical Gujarati dinner includes bhakri-shak or khichdi-kadhi. The Gujaratis are noted for their sweet tongue, and hence every meal is followed by a sweet dish or sometimes even jaggery.
6. Cultural Dresses of Gujarat
Patola Silk or popularly known as 'Queen of all silks' forms a major part of traditional Gujarati attire. Gujarati brides are adorned with silk and zari woven sarees of Gharchola and Panetar.
The traditional attires often incorporate tie-dye or traditional block prints.
The region of Kutch has a distinctive traditional outfit adorned by women known as Abhas. Chania Cholis are a popular choice of outfit during the festive season of Navratri Mahotsav.
Men also wear unique attire known as Kediya dress during the Navratri season.
A prevalent Gujarati trend is the silver Pachchikam jewellery that originated in Kutch.
7. Gujarati Engagement and Wedding Ceremony
Just like other elements of the Gujarat culture, their wedding ceremony is as elaborate and exciting. With multitudes of ceremonies each with its own significance, sometimes the bride and groom await the marriage ceremony more than the marriage itself.Engagement CeremonyThe engagement ceremony or the 'Gaud Dhana' translates to jaggery and coriander, which will be distributed to the guest. After the exchange of rings, the ceremony ends with the bride's family gifting the groom a box of sweets to represent a sweet relationship. Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony in the Gujarati culture is probably the most awaited event for the couple and its family but for all the guests as well. Like every Indian wedding, the rituals go back to the Vedic times, and the ceremonies kick off with the (Varghodo) wedding procession, that goes from the groom's house to the bride's house where the ceremonies take place. On arrival, the groom is welcomed by the bride's family (Swagatam) after which the bride's father performs a ritual involves him handing over his daughter to the groom (Kanya Daan) in front of the guest. After this, the rituals (Ganesh Puja) commences, this is known as the Vivaan. During the Vivaan, the couple performs the Mangal Phera where they go around the sacred fire and go through the most important part of the ritual, the Saptapadi or the seven sacred steps. The religious part of the ceremony comes to a close with the holy thread (Mangalsutra) being tied around the neck of the bride by the groom and he places the red dot (tika) on the wife's forehead, as a declaration of her new married status (Suhaag). The ceremony comes to a close when the couple goes to the groom's parents who will bless the couple (Aashirvaad).
8. Gujarati Cinema
With strong themes of mythology, history, social and political, the Gujarati cinema industry is different from the approach they have to cinema. Before the industry came into being, during the era of silent movie age, there was already a hoard of movies made on Gujarati culture and its people. More than just a means of entertainment, the Gujarat film industry brings in various forms of cinematic art. A trip to the cinema is a favourite past time amongst the Gujarati locals. Also known as 'Dhollywood' or Gollywood, the industry released its first movie in 1932, Narsinh Mehta.
The Gujarati community has well preserved their rich traditions and customs that have deep roots in their past. The mingling of the diverse ethnic folks has resulted in a well-balanced community that displays significant qualities like friendliness, liveliness, unity and immense love for their various ancient art forms. The plethora of traditions along with a tinge of modernization sums up the culture of Gujarat.

ONE NATION,ONE RELIGION,ONE FESTIVAL & It’s many different celebrations ! Cultural diversity redefined !
India is a country of diverse cultural and traditional practices, a land of colourful festivals, each one having its significance and meaning to celebrate. Makara  Sankranthi  is one of the festivals which is celebrated throughout our country with different names and slight differences in celebrations.
ANDHRA PRADESH STATE :
BHOGI: It is the first day of the festival and is celebrated on the day previous to Makara Sankranthi. At dawn, on this day people light a bonfire with logs of wood, other solid-fuels and wooden furniture at home that are no longer useful. The disposal of derelict things and getting ready to adapt new changes in life is the moral.
In many families, infants and children (usually less than three years old) are showered with fruit called “Regi Pandlu”, that is the Indian jujube fruit in order to protect the children from evil eye.
MAKARA SANKARANTHI: This is the 2nd day of the festival and forms the main day of celebration. It is also called “Pedda Panduga” which literally means “the big festival” They also make big and beautiful muggus{rangolis) i.e decorative colourful diagrams in front of their homes and decorate the rangoli with flowers & colours. The animals, especially the cows are worshiped.
KANUMA PANDUGA: It is the 3rd day of the festival.  It is not as widely celebrated, but is an integral part of the Sankranthi culture. The agricultural equipments and farm animals are decorated and worshiped. Prayers are offered for better crops. On the same day all Shiva temples celebrate a special Oorerigimpu (a procession of God through the village) on special vahana (vehicle or transpad) called prabhalu.
MUKKANUMA: This is the 4th day of the festival and is popular among the non-vegetarians of the society.
Fun Games: This festival Sankranti is celebrated in almost every village and town with adventurous games in South India. Whether it is the cock fights in Andhra, Bull fighting in Tamil Nadu or Elephant Mela in Kerala, there is huge amount of illegal betting but the so-called “tradition” continues to play a major role in the festival.
HARIDASU: Another notable feature of the festival in South India is the Haridasu who goes early in the morning around with a colorfully dressed cow, singing songs of Lord Vishnu(Hari) hence the name Haridasu(servant of hari). It is a custom that he should not talk to anyone and only sing songs of lord Vishnu when he goes to everyone’s house.
KITE FLYING: During these days people from Hyderabad fly kites from terraces of their buildings. Children and elders enjoy this kite flying a lot.
Makara Sankranti is also to honour, worship and to pay respect to Saraswati (Goddess of Knowledge). At the start of this significant event, there is also worship for the departed ancestors.
BIHAR  STATE
This festival is considered to be one of the most important festivals
Sakraat: On 14 January, it is celebrated as Makar Sankranti or Sakraat or KHICHDI (in local dialects). People take bath in rivers and ponds and feast upon seasonal delicacies as a celebration of good harvest.
The delicacies include Chura, Gur(jaggery), various sweets made of til (Sesame seeds) such as Tilkut, Tilwa, Maska, etc., curd, milk and seasonal vegetables. Kite flying festivals are also organized, albeit on a small scale.
Makraat: On 15 January, it is celebrated as Makraat (in some parts of the state) when people relish special Khichri (Dal-Rice replete with cauliflower, peas and potatoes).
GOA
Celebrations in Goa closely resemble to that in Maharashtra. The men hardly take part in the celebrations but it is the women folk who celebrate ‘haldi-kumkum’

HIMACHAL PRADESH STATE :
Magha Saaja: In Shimla District of Himachal Pradesh Makar Sankranti is known as Magha Saaja. Saaja is Pahari word for Sakranti, start of the new month. Hence this day marks the start of the month of Magha. It is said that from this day, which signals a change of season, the migratory birds start returning to the hills. On Magha Saaja people wake up early in the morning and take ceremonial dips and shower in the water springs or Baolis.  Festival culminates with singing and Naati (folk dance).
KARNATAKA STATE :
On this auspicious day, young females (kids & teenagers) wear new clothes to visit near and dear ones with a Sankranti offering in a plate, and exchange the same with other families. This ritual is called “Ellu Birodhu.” Here the plate would normally contain “Ellu” (white sesame seeds) mixed with fried groundnuts, neatly cut dry coconut & fine cut bella (Jaggery). The mixture is called “Ellu-Bella”. This festival signifies the harvest of the season, since sugarcane is predominant in these parts.  In North Karnataka, kite flying with community members is also a tradition. Drawing rangole in groups is another popular event among women during Sankranti. An important ritual is display of cows and cattle in colourful costumes in an open field. Cows are decorated for the occasion and taken on a procession. They are also made to cross a pyre. This ritual is common in rural Karnataka and is called “Kichchu Haayisuvudu”
KERALA STATE :
At the famous shrine of Sabarimala, the Makara Jyothi(natural divine light seen at the top of the mountain) is visible followed by the Makara Vilakku celebrations. Thousands of piligrims and devotees gather at the holy shrine to have a glimpse of the light and to visit the shrine of Swamy Ayyappa.

The celebrations begin early in the morning, by boiling rice with fresh milk and jaggery in new pots, which are later topped with brown sugar, cashew nuts and raisins. The contents are boiled till they overflow the vessel. Pongal means to overflow. The moment the rice boils over and bubbles out of the vessel, the tradition is to shout of “Ponggalo Ponggal!” It is followed by blowing the sangu (a conch), to announce that the year to come will be blessed with a lot of good things in our lives. Then the new rice which is boiled  is offered to the Nature during sunrise, a gesture which symbolises thanks to the sun and nature for providing prosperity. It is later served to the people present in the house.
MAATTU PONGAL: It is the 3rd day of festival. It is for offering thanks to cattle, as they help farmer in different ways for agriculture. On this day the cattle are decorated with paint, flowers and bells. They are allowed to roam free and fed sweet rice and sugar cane. Some people decorate the horns with gold or other metallic covers. In some places, Jallikattu – taming the wild bull contest, is the main event of this day (mostly seen in the villages) although it has been recently banned by the government citing it as  an harm to the animals involved.
