“On Saturday morning, the women — who, according to local media, were experienced golfers and part of a group called Sisters in the Fairway — teed off at Grandview Golf Course in York County. The women told the York Daily Record that they were told by the club’s owners they were not keeping a quick-enough pace. The club offered to refund their memberships and then called 911.
Northern York County Regional Police Chief Mark Bentzel told The Post that when the officers arrived, they learned the reason they were called was because of a dispute between the club’s management and the golfers. After talking with both groups for about 20 minutes, “we determined this was not something that the police department needed to be involved with.”
“We determined this was not a police matter, and we left,” Bentzel said. “Other than people offering their opinion back and forth, there were no problems. No need for us to be there.”
Officers from the Northern York County Regional Police arrived and left without filing any charges.”

Grandview Golf Club in York, Pa., calls cops to remove black members "playing too slowly"
Calling cops on black people is something white people do to place them in lethal danger, which is why several members of the Grandview Golf Club in York, Pa., fled the course Saturday to avoid trouble, even after local police declined to charge them with the imaginary crime of playing golf slowly.

Ten Days at Beachwood Resort - Birch Bay, WA
Our time here at Beachwood Resort has been well spent. It is a great location just north of Bellingham in northwestern Washington. We have played a couple rounds of golf at Grandview Golf Course - just down the road from the RV park. Relatively inexpensive AND uncrowded, but our favorite part of playing golf in Washington:
All the yummy berries growing on the golf courses - great way to distract yourself during a bad round of golf!
We spent a day on Whidbey Island, visiting with Doug’s cousin, Tina, and her family. It was nice to spend a little time with them, hopefully, we will meet up with them again while we are in the area. We also went into Bellingham and played tennis at one of their city parks. That was quite the adventure to find those courts! They were tucked away under the trees and when we did finally locate them, we were subjected to exhaust and noise from heavy machinery tearing up the grounds near two of the four courts. They were getting ready to convert two of the courts into pickleball courts and that required tearing up the area adjacent to the courts. We had managed to just get warmed up before we were kicked off our courts by a couple of people who wanted to mark the court we were playing on with pickleball court lines. Pretty distracting! In addition, the smoke from the fires was pretty bad that day, too. We probably did more damage than good trying to play under those conditions! Oh well, it provided a story to tell!
We did fit in a couple of hikes during our stay. The first one was a hike up to Oyster Dome. The trailhead was located on Chuckanut Drive along Samish Bay, between Bellingham and Burlington. Beautiful walk through towering cedars and lush undergrowth, definitely a climb. Our views were limited due to the smoke from the fires, but we still enjoyed the walk.
Highly used trail, not too busy the day we were there. Signage is great all the way to the top.
We were on the Pacific Northwest Trail for portions of this hike - completing that trail is not on my bucket list!
Great trail through the woods!
Samish Bay through the trees.....smoke was definitely covering the bay.
Oregon grape holly, I couldn’t believe the number of berries growing on these plants in this forest.
Doug at the summit of Oyster Dome.
Our view from Oyster Dome.
We were definitely sweaty from our climb, the breeze at Oyster Dome was refreshing.
A little fungi on the way back.
This photo makes it look like we were hiking in Hawaii!
The other hike we did during our stay was in Mt. Baker Wilderness Area. It was over an hour to drive there, but so worth it. This area of Washington is drop-dead gorgeous! We did the out-and-back hike to Lake Ann. Could not have asked for a more perfect day.
Well-marked trail, 8.4 miles RT.
Lots of berries along the first portion of the trail, as you switchback your way down into the valley.
The views get spectacular as you enter the valley after your descent from the parking area.
Hiking across the valley floor, you have to watch where you are going! Easy to get distracted by the views.
The trail begins to climb up out of the valley toward the saddle at Lake Ann.
After a few rocky, long switchbacks we were rewarded with a stunning view of Mt. Baker (if you remember to take a moment to turn around).
Lake Ann from the saddle.
Mt. Shucksan overwhelmed us as we continued along the trail above Lake Ann.
Pretty sweet spot to stop for lunch.
Table Mountain in the distance, as we made our way back up to the saddle on our way back.
We have enjoyed our stay here, the park is very busy. Lots of families and more kids riding bicycles than I have ever seen! This is an area we will probably come back to again - we just can’t stay away from the beautiful Cascades! In case you are wondering why, I am going to leave you with one last photo of Mt. Baker:

A golf club in Pennsylvania has apologized for calling police on a group of black women after the co-owner and his father said they were playing too slowly and refused requests to leave the course.
“I felt we were discriminated against,” one of the women, Myneca Ojo, told the York Daily Record. “It was a horrific experience.”
Sandra Thompson and four friends met up Saturday to play a round of golf at the Grandview Golf Club, where they are all members, she told the newspaper.
At the second hole, a white man whose son co-owns the club came up to them twice to complain that they weren’t keeping up with the pace of play. Thompson, an attorney and the head of the York chapter of the NAACP, told the newspaper it was untrue.
On the same hole, another member of the group, Sandra Harrison, said she spoke with a Grandview golf pro, who said they were fine since they were keeping pace with the group ahead of them.
Despite that, the women skipped the third hole to avoid any other issues, she said.
It’s part of golf etiquette that slow-moving players let groups behind them play through if they are holding things up, and often golf courses have personnel who monitor the pace of play, letting golfers know when they are taking too long.
The five are part of a larger group of local women known as Sisters in the Fairway. The group has been around for at least a decade, and all of its members are experienced players who have golfed all over the county and world, Thompson said. They’re very familiar with golf etiquette, she said.
After the ninth hole, where it is customary to take a break before continuing on the next nine holes, three of the group decided to leave because they were so shaken up by the earlier treatment, the women told the paper.
Thompson said the man from the second hole, identified as former York County Commissioner Steve Chronister, his son, club co-owner Jordan Chronister and several other white, male employees approached the remaining two women and said they took too long of a break and they needed to leave the course.
The women argued they took an appropriate break, and that the men behind them were still on their beer break and not ready to tee off, as seen in a video Thompson gave the newspaper. The women were told that the police had been called, and so they waited.
Northern York County Regional Police arrived, conducted interviews and left without charging anyone.
“We were called there for an issue, the issue did not warrant any charges,” Northern York County Regional Police Chief Mark Bentzel said. “All parties left and we left as well.”
A phone listing for Steve Chronister rang busy on Monday. He told the York Daily Record he didn’t have time to comment on Sunday.
Jordan Chronister’s wife and co-owner of the club, JJ Chronister, said Sunday she called the women personally to apologize.
“We sincerely apologize to the women for making them feel uncomfortable here at Grandview, that is not our intention in any way,” she told the newspaper. “We want all of our members to feel valued and that they can come out here and have a great time, play golf and enjoy the experience.”
She said she hopes to meet with them to discuss how the club can use what happened as a learning experience and do better in the future.
Thompson said she’s not sure a meeting is what needs to happen.
“There needs to be something more substantial to understand they don’t treat people in this manner,” she said.
The encounter comes after two black men in Philadelphia were handcuffed and arrested on April 12 after a Starbucks employee called police because they hadn’t bought anything in the store. The two men told The Associated Press that they were waiting for a business contact to arrive.

The Transit System Review - One Year Later
Today was one year ago today that the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) changed forever.
Gone were the days of all of the buses meeting up at Broad and High. Gone were the days of buses lining up every 30 or 60 minutes at Broad and High on Sundays. Gone were the days of buses running every hour on the weekends and evenings. It was time for a new normal.
The Transit System Review, as controversial as it was, was revolutionary for COTA. The four-year plan helped expand service out of Downtown, to the suburban job centers in Hilliard, Easton, and Rickenbacker. Expanded regular service outside of I-270 in Hilliard, Dublin, Gahanna, and Polaris.
In 1998, before Easton Town Center opened. Only ONE bus went out there. Throughout the 2000s, only TWO buses went out there, and only one of those on the weekends, and that was every hour, and it ended around 10:00 at night on weeknights, and 6:00 on the weekends.
Following the 2006 COTA levy, service grew. In 2010, bus service expanded to later on the weekends. In 2016, the renewal levy passed by a near 3-1 landslide margin. The city became dependent on COTA as more jobs moved out of the center of the city, because people needed to get to their job in Obetz from their Section 8 apartment in Linden, or the mom on welfare with three screaming babies in the Hilltop needed to get to her appointment in Hilliard. COTA was growing.
But, with the growth came growing pains. The consultants of the Transit System Review implemented new routes that took buses that had been on certain streets for years, if not decades, many of these routes were based off streetcar routes from the 1930s (Remember about keeping current? City Planners failed to send a memo to COTA.). Buses on Country Club Road, Oak Street, Michigan Avenue, and Jaeger Street became buses on McNaughten Road, Polaris Parkway, Sunbury Road, and Clime Road.
Suddenly, streets that had service for years, like Oak Street had a bus route since the streetcar days (hey, the Trolley Barn was at the end of the line at Oak and Kelton in Franklin Park), and Country Club Road had a bus route on it since 1963, those little side streets saw buses diverted to main roads.
There have been kinks downtown with the grid pattern. The buses coming from Franklinton go around Downtown in a maze (especially Lines 6 and 9, which go in from the Franklinton Arts District and go around Downtown, to Columbus State), or Line 11, which goes around Downtown in a circle, and the Near East Side in a circle (oh wait, that NEVER changed. The old # 11 did that as well. Scratch that.), if you live in Olde Towne East, you can walk from Bryden Road to Long Street and still catch the # 11. (After it goes around Downtown, of course). It’s not easy making connections from stop to stop, because you can transfer routes in multiple locations (except if you’re coming to or from Line # 10, which goes on Broad Street).
On the bright side, gone are the days that people couldn’t take a job in Mill Run, Rickenbacker, or New Albany, because they couldn’t get there. You can catch a one-seat bus to Easton from Hilliard, Whitehall, Gahanna, Reynoldsburg, Franklinton, the King-Lincoln District, Upper Arlington, Clintonville, Linden, Grandview Heights, or The Ohio State University District. There are FOUR buses that go to the Hollywood Casino. THREE buses that go to Grandview Yard, and on the weekends. And there is a bus rapid transit route, the CMAX, which has high priority traffic signals on Cleveland Avenue between Fort Hayes and State Route 161, with artistic bus shelters between Fort Hayes and Minerva Park.
THEN: # 1 Cleveland/Livingston: Buses went from Livingston Avenue and Country Club Road to the Northern Lights Shopping Center; later from Polaris Parkway and Africa Road or the Westerville Park and Ride to the Reynoldsburg Park and Ride # 11 Oak/Bryden: Buses went from Sawyer Tower to the Kroger at Holtzman and Main; Later from the VA Clinic/Carepoint East at Leonard and Taylor to Columbus Square Apartments (at Winslow Drive and Alum Creek Drive), and then later down the Refugee Road corridor to Gender Road Town Center # 80 Ohio Avenue & # 81 Hudson, later # 81 Hudson-Ohio: Old bus # 80 went from Alum Creek and Winslow Drive to Hudson & Joyce, every hour six days a week; and old bus # 81 went from University City Shopping Center to Parkwood and Hudson; the combined route # 81 went from University City Shopping Center to Alum Creek Drive (first to Winslow Drive, then to Alum Creek & Williams Rd., and then to Rickenbacker) # 84 OSU/Arlington/Grandview/Hilliard: Buses went on weekdays from Marble Cliff to Kingsdale Shopping Center via Grandview Heights and the Ohio State campus, then eventually Lennox, and then the route was split into THREE routes: # 80 OSU/Lennox (night/weekend service from High Street to Lennox Town Center; # 82 OSU/Grandview Yard (weekday only service from Ohio Union to Grandview Yard, deviating into Lennox); # 84 OSU/Arlington (weekday only service from Ohio Union to Kingsdale Shopping Center, via Lane Avenue and the West Campus; hourly service to Hilliard was added in 2013)
NOW: # 1 Kenny/Livingston: 15 minute service from Reynoldsburg Park and Ride to Riverside Methodist Hospital; Goes through Livingston Avenue corridor from German Village to Brice Road, goes up High Street from the Franklin County Court House to the Ohio State University, then up Olentangy River Road from Lane Avenue to North Broadway; 30 minute service up Kenny Road to Bethel and Sawmill Roads; Serves Downtown Columbus, German Village, the South Side (Livingston Park, Southern Orchards, Old Oaks, and Driving Park), Berwick/Bexley, the East Side (Berwyn East/Beechwood/Willis Park/Leawood Gardens/Walnut Hills), Reynoldsburg, Northwest Columbus, Upper Arlington, the University District, and the Short North. # 5 West Fifth/Refugee: 15 minute service from First Community Village in Upper Arlington to Whittier Street and Seymour Avenue in Driving Park; 30 minute service from Refugee and Gender Roads to Trabue and Wilson Roads; 60 minute service to Hollywood Casino via Wilson Road and 60 minute service to the Renner Road Park and Ride at Hilliard-Rome and Renner Roads. Serves Downtown Columbus, the Short North Arts District, Grandview (Marble Cliff/Grandview Heights/Fifth by Northwest), Upper Arlington, West Columbus, German Village, the Brewery District, the South Side (Ganther’s Place, Southern Orchards, Driving Park, Merion Village, Schumacher Place), and the East Side (Easthaven, Eastland, Blacklick Estates) # 11 Bryden/Maize: 60 minute service from Maryhaven at Alum Creek Drive and Frebis Avenue to Westview Turnaround at High & Fenway Road in Clintonville via Bryden Road, Long Street, Joyce Avenue, Hudson Street, McGuffey Road, Maize Road, and Morse Road. Serves the Near East Side TWICE (Bryden Road - Franklin Park and Olde Towne East; Long Street - King-Lincoln Bronzeville to Taylor Avenue), North Columbus, Linden, and Northland, as well as Downtown Columbus. # 22 OSU/Rickenbacker: 30 minute service from Grandview Yard (lays over across from L.A. Fitness on Bobcat Avenue and Goodale) to Rickenbacker (60 on the weekend; 30 minute weekend service from Grandview Yard to Frebis and Studer Avenues on the South Side); Goes through Grandview Yard, the Ohio State Campus, Ohio State Fairgrounds, Milo-Grogan, Olde Towne East, Old Oaks, and Alum Creek Drive to Rickenbacker. Serves Grandview Yard, OSU Campus, Milo-Grogan, King-Lincoln Bronzeville, Olde Towne East, Old Oaks, the South Side, Obetz, and Rickenbacker. # 31 Hudson: 30 minute service from Grandview Yard to Easton; via First Avenue, Grandview Avenue, OSU Campus, Hudson Street, Mock Road, and Sunbury Road. Serves Grandview Heights, OSU, Linden, and Northeast Columbus # 32 North Broadway: 30 minute service from Easton to Kingsdale Shopping Center; 60 minute service from Easton to Hilliard*; via Cemetery Road, Fishinger Road, Nottingham Road, North Broadway, Oakland Park Avenue, and Innis/McCutcheon Roads. Serves Hilliard, Upper Arlington, Clintonville, North Linden, and Northeast Columbus. * Temporary layover in Hilliard is over by the Heritage Golf Club, due to construction on Scioto-Darby Road near Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park
Cheers to one year of the COTA Transit System Review!

The Grandview Golf Club In Pennsylvania called police on five “members” this weekend. That’s right all five women were yearly paying members. However the club’s co-owner felt that the group was playing too slowly and claimed that they did not leave the course when asked, so of course he had to call the police. The “members”—all five of whom are black women—say that they were discriminated against. To clarify to slow was 20 minutes. We can only assume that they are the only group of golfers black or white to ever take 20 minutes to go progress. I assume my assumption is wrong and Grandview Golf Club co-owner who comes off as a douchebag in the video is in fact racist. In the famous words of Matthew McConaughey in A Time To Kill “Now imagine they were white.” Click link to read full article Blogged by @ms_chambers #blackinamerica

Golfing in Nova Scotia week #1
Wow I couldn't imagine myself ever being a blogger but here I am Jack Gillis typing out a blog. Pretty cool to be honest. I’m from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, ever hear of it before? Being from Cole Harbour I unfortunately didn’t get the hockey gene , I don’t know what gene I got to be honest.
I will tell you as a kid growing up, I fell in love with the game of golf. In the summers I used to paddle with my buddies, some of my other buddies would golf and it looked like fun. So I went out for a round and after that I was hooked. The next year, I quit paddling and got myself a set of clubs. After that I was a member at Grandview where we played for many years. I then got my first job there working in the back shops, a job for most young kids, picking up balls, cleaning carts etc. I worked there for two summers, then was fired for being a shit lazy worker lol but so did my friend Luke Henman, I always have to mention that.
Now this summer my buddies and I are first time members at Hartlen Point. What a course, one of my all-time favorites I think. It’s one of the most underrated if not the most underrated in the province. I think it gets a shit rap because it’s cold down there on the water. Growing up in Nova Scotia, were used to cold miserable weather. It's now June and it feels like March, this is awful though it’d be nice to have a nice sunny day soon with the music playing and some cold drinks in the cooler.
My goal here for people reading is to take a dive into golf in our province and the great golfers we have in Nova Scotia. We Also have Cabot Links, one of the best courses in the world, also a hand full of D1 golfers grinding it out on the mini tours.
This week the NSGA has their first provincial tournament, the NSGA Four Ball. The host course is Osprey Ridge in Bridgewater. I know nothing about this course, I've never been, I usually just pass by it on the highway. I'l be playing in this tournament this week with my playing partner Brandon Cuvelier, who is an absolute stick, I know for a fact he'll have to bail me out a couple times.
Playing in a tournament is always different then playing with your boys, no preferred lies, no gimmies, no nothing, your putting for quad? Tap that shit in because you can’t take it. You always put an abundance of pressure on yourself and never play to your best abilities. Osprey Ridge look out because Cuvelier and Gillis are coming for you.
In the PGA tour this week we have the Canadian Open. Always an exciting event, for the first time in quite some time, they're playing a course other then Glen Abbey. These pros are teeing it up this week at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. The field is solid this year, since the PGA tour schedule changed the Canadian Open has gotten the biggest benefit being slated right in front of the US open instead of previously being put right after the British Open.
This week we will be seeing DJ, Koepka, Rory, Justin Thomas and Matt Kuchar just to name a few. It’s always nice to see the stars head north of the border for the week and enjoy our country, the crowds are expected to be huge, major like. Just a thought but could these guys not travel to Cape Breton and play at Cabot? I mean pros are always flying in and out to play that course. People would be very interested in this. Obviously, there would be some logistic issues to sort out, but I mean the pros could stay at the course where they have villas. The fans could stay around the area, but man I mean how can we not just start the conversation. We have the #1 course in Canada, it needs to be show cased on the professional level.
I also like to gamble and play fantasy sports, especially with golf, so each week I'll try and give you a couple picks.
Picks to win Brooks Koepka- Wow Jack way to go out on a limb but listen this guy is hot and is dominating how can you not give this guy a look. Henrik Stenson- Got off to a slow start this year but has been starting to come around, hits the ball so solid and is flying under most radars.
Stay far and clear Justin Thomas- WD from the PGA blew up last week at The Memorial and is also coming off a wrist injury. Can’t be trusted at the moment. Rory Mcllroy- Ever since winning The Players he hasn’t looked like the Rory we have come to know. He'll be looking ahead a couple weeks at the US Open.
Best of luck and go make some money.
Cheers, Jack
