So, I got a gifted bike recently, after my old one broke in half, and I thought, well finally, a functional bike that I won't have to fix every two weeks! And I was wrong about that. If anyone knows why are bikes Like That, please let me know. Nothing breaks down as much as bikes do, I am convinced.
Few weeks in, I went to pump the tyre, and the valve that lets the air into the tube, broke immediately, and let all the air out. I was unsure whether this can be fixed or not, and asked any person I could find if they knew a solution, or if I needed to replace the whole tube. I actually had a tube stashed away that I repaired a while ago, so I tried to replace it, but discovered I couldn't even dismantle the bike, I was missing some pliers! While devastated about that, I checked to see if I could take the valve from my repaired tube, and just replace that part, and maybe it would work – and it did. I had to walk to a gas station in order to get the tube filled again, but then it was working, and I was blessed with a few more weeks of excellent bike usage.
Yesterday, I went to fill the tyres again! And in the afternoon, I discovered one of the tyres was flat. I must have ran over a thorn while cycling back home, which is ironic. Every single time I pump the tyres some other shit goes down. But! I had the pliers this time. I found them on the second-hand market. So I was confident I could dismantle the back wheel, replace the tube, and the bike would be functional in like, an hour (it takes half hour to walk to the gas station).
After taking the pieces apart, I noticed there was a metal wire holding the wheel to the bike, and I couldn't pull it out. Bamboozled, I started dismantling the part that was holding the wire, not knowing what that was. The wire led to the front handles, so I assumed it was something stupid, like a brake, and I didn't use brake handles anyway, so I didn't care if that stopped working. The metal pieces the wire was connected to, fell apart, fell to the floor, and I had no idea how to put them back together. But I didn't care about it anyway, so I focused on replacing the tube, putting the wheel back together, and after a bit of struggle, I managed to do it.
Then I looked at the mess of the metal and plastic pieces on the floor, and got nervous. I had to put it back the way it was, or possibly the wheel wouldn't work correctly. I tried to fit the pieces to each other in numerous ways, and they would not fit neatly in any possible way, making me frustrated. It seemed impossible. But then I remembered, my long experience of playing nancy drew games and putting various senseless gears back together. I could do this. I was trained for this. These are just some parts that can and will somehow make sense if I mess around with them long enough. The stakes are higher because this is real life, but this is a puzzle for me! And I am a detective putting it together.
And with this brave thought, I managed to find a way to put the pieces into place. They wouldn't fit together outside the bike, but on the bike, I realized there were metal pieces that could technically accept the fallen-off black pieces, and after a few tries I found a way to make it all fit back together. I screwed it tightly, and then assembled the back wheel once again. There was just, this wire, with a little nut at the end? I didn't know where that went. I couldn't have known. I didn't see where it was before it all fell apart. So I ignored it, I just randomly put it somewhere and hoped the wheel would work. So what if I have no breaks on my handles, it was no issue.
So I walk to the gas station, nervous about my replacement tube, but the tube, does the job! It fills up easily, it's not letting air out, it's stiff and ready to carry me around. I am happy, I am pleased, I am proud, I sit on the bike, and immediately realize what the wire was. It was GEARS. My bike had no gears. I had to pedal it endlessly only for it to barely move. Absolutely mortifying, embarrassing, slow, frustrating and painful experience.
I got home feeling dreadful, and immediately started looking up how to put this thing back together properly, how to attach the damned wire, and found no bike that even resembled the setup that mine had. Bikes had lots of sprockets where the chain could go to change gears! Mine had only one sprocket. At this point I'm wondering how the damned thing even has gears if there's no sprockets, I start to doubt whether it actually had gears or I was just hallucinating this entire time. The internet gaslit me into doubting my own bike experience. I asked a friend who helped me fix bikes in the past, and they said the little wire and nub were common and were supposed to fit neatly somewhere! Encouraged by this, I typed all possible terms I could find about bike gear types into DuckDuckGO (fuck u google) and after what felt like an hour, finally typed in 'internal gear hub', which is what my bike had! It looks like this: link
So I finally found some videos with instructions on how to put this thing back together, I only watched the part where they attach the wire, and I get back to the bike, to see if I put the pieces back correctly, and if I could insert the wire.
It turned out, I couldn't insert the wire, because for some damned reason, the wire is not long enough to be inserted now. Upset, I figured I probably put the pieces back wrong, and I needed to dismantle them again (no girl don't do that please) and I dissembled the entire wheel once again, in order to fix this. However when I unscrewed all of the parts, I found I couldn’t pull the wheel off the bike, because when the tube is filled, the brakes clutch it so tight it couldn't be pulled out! I was not about to dismantle the brakes, just to fix the gears, that was BULLSHIT, so I tried to pull the wheel just slightly off, just so I could work on the gear pieces. But then I had very poor access, and the gear pieces kept falling apart, not standing still, making me frustrated and upset. In my frustration, I pulled the tyre as strong as I could to yank it off the bike, and the smallest, plastic piece of gear got stuck in that motion and snapped. I BROKE A PIECE OF IT. Now absolutely devastated, I put the bike away, and decided I couldn't keep fixing it with a broken piece, that was a recipe for disaster.
I would superglue that shit back together.
I went back to my room, grabbed a little tube of superglue, immediately got glue on both my hands and legs somehow, and fiddled with the little part until it was somewhat in one piece (and I say this generously, it did NOT look like what it should look like). I checked the clock and it was 11PM which meant I as fixing the bike for 6 hours and it was way past my bedtime. Before I fell asleep, I watched the video on how to fix the wire once more, and this time I caught the line 'put the gears on middle' which, I haven't done, and that's why the damned wire was too short, it didn't need dismantling, I just needed to put the gears on 4 and then I'd be able to attach them. With this thought in mind, I fell asleep.
I woke up 5am sharp and immediately I'm like "can't sleep while bike doesn't work" and I grab the superglued piece and immediately storm off to the bicycle room to work on the bike. I once again, struggle to put the pieces back together, and in all fairness, the superglued piece holds down like it should, and I'm feeling, okay, maybe this can be done. I put the gears in the middle and the wire immediately falls into place easily, FINALLY. Then I find out that while doing all this, I somehow managed to pull the chain over the metal part holding the wheel and it couldn't be pulled back onto the wheel. It's just one thing after the other. I'm going to die fixing this bike, I think to myself, as I undo the wheel ONCE AGAIN, manage to get the chain in correct position, put it on the bike, and finally attach the whole thing back like it should have been attached.
If I had the information about how to undo that wire before trying to fix it, this entire fix would have been extremely easy, I wouldn't have to dismantle the pieces even one time (they should NOT be dismantled in the first place, just wire detached from it), it would be a breeze, but there was literally no way for me to know this. The only way for me to learn about this was for me to dismantle this multiple times and painstakingly put it back together. I could do it in my sleep now, I have this shit down, I can fix any damned wire gear problem, I can superglue it if it breaks.
I drag the bike outside. And it works. The bike freaking works. Gears and all. Superglue held out. Extremely relieved and grateful, I finally get to go to my garden and pick up food for the day. I got green beans! And kale, so much kale. I'm going to have a green bean salad, the easiest thing a person can make with green beans. And maybe later some kale chips.
In conclusion, whoever made the internal gear hub setup on bikes is NOT an ally and I want them to get cancelled for my suffering. Whoever made the superglue has helped me today, even though I don't like glue in general, this one time, it was a friend, it helped me in my time of need, and also that other time when I learned to fix my shoes and glue them back together. Thank you superglue, thank you friend who encouraged me to fix this, thank you bike for working, thank you repaired tube for being a gem, thank you garden for growing green beans for me, and fuck you internal gear hub I never want to see you again (though I know your shit now and you can't defy me anymore).

WHUMPTOBER | Trust Issues | wc: ~1,000
a/n: This is from the 987reverse!au, but it's pulling Torino backstory from @/thisauthorisscreaming's Anachronism fic. What can I say. Torino is not in the market for healthy parental figures.
//
Training was probably the one activity that Sorahiko genuinely looked forward to now that he and Nana were enrolled in U.A.’s famous heroics program. He liked to run, he liked using Jet in creative obstacle courses, and best of all, Sorahiko liked being able to fight back.
What he wasn’t a fan of was when All Might joined the fray.
Nana could laugh and shout about a ‘springtime of youth’ all she wanted. The rest of them suffered a huge morale crush when the Number One Hero of All Time stepped into the gym and flexed his stupid muscles. Some days, they fought him as a whole class. Other times, in groups or pairs.
On the really challenging days, All Might took them on, one-on-one. He called it a tutoring session. Sorahiko considered it hell, especially because the rest of the students had to spar in tight quarters on the other half of the gym.
After Shimura, Suzuki. From Suzuki, Torino.
Sorahiko eyed the way Suzuki, cursing, slunk back to the mats. Keeping pace beside him and cheerfully lecturing all the while, All Might chattered Suzuki’s ear off with advice. “Young Suzuki, your flexibility needs quite a bit of work! Didn’t I tell you last time that villains won’t always be neatly taken out with a long-range attack?”
A towel dropped over his head. Sorahiko let it shut out the world for a split second before he scrubbed the sweat on his neck and whipped it off, just in time to see Nana drop to a cross-legged seat next to him.
“You ready?” she asked.
“Eh,” he said, noncommittal. The answer was obviously no. Even if Sorahiko landed a punch or a kick on All Might--well, one, All Might was nigh-invulnerable to impact damage. And two, Sorahiko’s specialty was momentum, and trying to compensate for a lack of power with momentum.
“Ah, you’ve got it.”
“I don’t know where you got all my confidence.” He grinned when Nana laughed. Then Suzuki was promptly dropped off at a mat with Fujita, and All Might swanned over to theirs. The rictus of a smile eased into a genuine beam, which was the only reasonable reaction to have when a happy Nana was in hearing and seeing range.
“Young Torino! You’re up!”
Sorahiko checked the bandages wrapped around his wrists and ankles. It was the most support he’d get for his joints outside of hero exercises; gear was strictly limited for ‘work’, and no amount of complaining persuaded All Might that bare-knuckle brawling was untenable for twenty fifteen to sixteen year olds.
“Go, Sorahiko!” Nana cheered, pumping her fist into the air. “You’ll get him this time!”
“Yeah,” he muttered. He got to his feet and stared balefully up at All Might. The same damn quiver in his stomach rattled back to life. And it got stronger and stronger the further they walked away from the class to the empty side of the gym.
They faced each other. All Might had not tried to talk to him, but instead considered him with a look that made Sorahiko’s skin crawl.
“Are you alright?”
“Fine,” Sorahiko bit out. He imagined violently smothering the ingrained terror, and he shifted his feet, readying a boxing stance.
“You might find better progress if we talked about your strategy,” All Might said, using as much delicacy as he was capable of. “Your speed--” isn’t good enough yet. Get on the track, boy. I know you can go faster--
He said, “Call it!”, and when All Might responded with a startled, “Go!”, Sorahiko lunged forward with a right hook and used the force of his spin to follow that with a kick, and it was a flurry of blows from there.
No point in trying to set up for a ricochet run. The last time Sorahiko went with that, All Might gave chase, and the visual of (frankly) a large looming figure honing in on Sorahiko made him witless with fear. He’d given up all attempts at a fight and went flat-out retreat mode.
Sorahiko knew there wasn’t a point in trying to shove All Might. The jackass was literally famous for being a Pillar of Society or whatever, and Sorahiko was just sixteen. But as Sorahiko’s limbs started to ache and All Might showed no signs of being affected, Sorahiko let out a breathless cry, ducked closer to All Might’s core, planted both feet on the gym tile and Jetted.
All Might’s hand grasped at Sorahiko’s shirt. Sorahiko was bodily lifted before he could cut the Jet. He flailed like a goddamned child as All Might slid his foot backwards and nearly let Sorahiko Jet himself into a wall. As it was, Sorahiko’s attempted Jet shot him against his own shirt, and he choked out a curse word.
“Easy there!” All Might chided.
Because Sorahiko was taking lessons from Nana’s school of ‘Never Give Up!’, he scrabbled for a new footing. (He was a child again, being grabbed by the collar and prevented from escaping.) He said, stupidly, “Take me seriously, you shitty old geezer!”, and lashed out with an elbow, a fist, all five nails clawing for a grip.
With casual ease, All Might tossed him to the side. “Young Torino, you really have to talk to someone,” he scolded. “You’re lucky young Shimura thinks you have the fighting tactics of a spooked cat. She’d be quite worried if she knew you were fighting through a panic attack every time you went up against me.”
Sorahiko rolled to his feet. “I’m not,” he snapped. He flinched back when All Might readied a punch, but he tried to rally anyways. Never give up and all. “Anybody would be scared shitless if you cocked a fist at ‘em! You’re known for smashing people to pulp!”
“I haven’t even thrown a student hard enough to break a brick wall,” All Might protested. He pinwheeled an arm, popping the joint. Sorahiko loathed the evidence that he hadn’t hit All Might hard enough to induce any sound at all.
Before All Might gestured for a restart, Sorahiko went for his neck.

hi 👋
may I request a reader that is a pack rat but with useful things? like they’re always ready with something in their bag to help tf141 with their needs. wether its a snack, an extra shirt, or whatever. they’re just dora with their backpack lol
and the men are always in awe bc ‘how are they always ready for any situation’?? it can be platonic or romantic but would surely love some fluff with it. please and thank you! 🥰
hello love!!! you can indeed request that!!! this is such a cute idea!!!
you suggested dora with the backpack, which is very valid, but my brain also jumps to daphne blake from scooby doo bc that girl carries a tiny ass purse and has everything under the sun and can make shit on the fly like nothing (there was one episode where she made a hydroelectric battery to power the mystery machine like it was nothing lol)
so taking both of those vibes and jumping headfirst in!!! here's a tidbit from how I think a fic with that might go!! (also I kept reader gender neutral in this one, bc you didn't specify any pronouns!)
It's finally happened, Soap is sure of it. The 141 has finally run into a situation that BP isn't gonna have the supplies for.
BP is the callsign of the team medic, which is why you could be forgiven for thinking their name is short for 'blood pressure.'
It's not.
It's short for 'backpack.'
Soap had chuckled when he first heard it, but those little chuckles quickly died when he realised his superiors were serious. All they'd say was that you were uniquely skilled at anticipating the needs of your teammates on any given mission, as well as a well-qualified and well-trained field medic and surgeon.
That first mission, everything had gone FUBAR, including the exfil being shot down, leaving the team stranded in enemy territory with their only possible transport being new black-market Humvees with remote locking systems that were thus far unbreakable. Price and Ghost had been conversing over a plan of attack when you'd simply opened up your ever present backpack and pulled out a small handheld remote. Flipping a switch, you pointed it at the nearest Humvee, and an audible click! indicated it was now unlocked.
They'd all stared for a solid minute before you coughed and said "Uh, about that exfil?" and the team jerked into action and dove for the doors of their new escape vehicle. When asked what the fuck kind of wizard tech you had, you simply shrugged and said it was a universal remote.
Soap had figured it for a one-off. He'd never been more wrong.
Ghost's balaclava gets irreparably damaged and covered in gross bodily fluids? You've got a brand new one in the exact size he needs, made from water resistant fabric.
Price's cigars get lost in (yet another) heli crash? You've got a brand new box of Maduro cigars in that backpack, the only explanation being that you'd "found them while out shopping."
Gaz loses his ball cap, and you whip out a spare without even a second glance, shoving it onto his head without a care in the world, even as he's sputtering because "how the hell do you have the same damn cap? I bought that old one years ago!"
Alejandro's iPod gets destroyed after the team has to flee through a river and all their gear gets waterlogged, and out of a Ziploc, you pull a brand new one with the headphones he likes, and he's shocked to see it's downloaded with all his favorite songs, and the default setting is currently on Spanish.
Rudy's a diabetic, and his insulin pump gets damaged in a knife fight, and not only do you have insulin for him, you have a brand new pump as well, and specific snacks that will help him hold out till he can replace the pump. It's originally brushed off that you have this because of being the team's doctor, until Rudy points out that you don't actually have access to his medical records, with him being Mexican Special Forces and you being SAS.
And Soap? Soap ran out of room in his journal one day, in the middle of trying to sketch and he hadn't realized how close he was to the end, so he hadn't brought a spare. Before he even has the chance to feel disappointed, you're slipping a brand new journal with the exact right type of paper he prefers into his hands.
It's not just personal stuff either. Any tool, gadget, gizmo, whirlygig, or thingamabob they could think of, you just... had it. Wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, lockpicks, extra mags, oil, cleaning rags, padlocks, bolt cutters, bandaids, needles, suture thread, ice packs, heat packs, gauze, hair ties, bobby pins, the list goes on and on and on.
Never, not once had there been a situation where the team had needed something that you couldn't pull from the dark, yawning pit that you called a backpack.
Except, Soap is confident that this time, you don't have what they need. You couldn't possibly have predicted this outcome.
The mission had been a comedy of errors, the team racing across the globe, bouncing between countries, hopping from continent to continent tracking the HVT Laswell had sent the lot of you after. Through a completely random turn of events, you'd ended up in the United States of all places, in the wooded areas of Washington state. It wasn't a state park, per se, but close enough. Supposedly, there was a cache here that the HVT frequented, and might have valuable intel.
Unfortunately, your way had been blocked by some State Park Rangers, who demanded that you either provide proof of registration that allowed you to be there, or the team had to leave.
Of course, being members of the SAS and Fuerzas Especiales, who operated out of Europe and Mexico respectively, the likelihood of any of them having the right paperwork was infinitesimal.
"Hold on!"
Soap whirled around at the sound of your voice. There you were, rummaging through your backpack.
"No fuckin' way," Gaz whispered, the rest of the team going deathly still.
There was absolutely, positively, no possible way on God's green Earth that you were gonna–
"Found it!"
You let out a whoop of excitement, pulling a small rectangular piece of plastic from your bag, a hole through the top indicating that it might go in a car, hanging from the rearview mirror.
"Here's our permit for the Washington State Parks and Forestry. Just renewed it, too."
The Rangers took it sceptically, but their faces cleared as they looked it over.
"Everything seems to be in order then, ma'am. Sorry for the delay and confusion."
"No problem!" You chirped, ignorant of the dumbfounded stares at your back. "Have a good day, gentlemen!"
Soap felt dizzy. He felt weak. He might actually collapse here on the spot from pure confusion alone. He could faintly hear Gaz muttering behind him, and in his peripheral vision, Alejandro was shaking with silent laughter, and Rudy looked like he'd just been handed the answers to the universe's greatest mysteries.
This had to be a dream. Soap refused to accept reality otherwise.
The Rangers left, and there was a heavy, oppressive silence that settled over the team. BP turned to look at everyone with a smile on their face, only for it to fall when they saw the stunned, blank looks their teammates wore.
"What's wrong?"
Bless 'em, they sounded so confused, but Soap really had no way to express just what he or any of the others were feeling in this moment.
As BP's face fell further, Price surged forward and scooped their medic and resident pack rat into a hug. They let out a small eep! at the sudden constricting pressure around their ribs. It was difficult to hug with tac vests on, but Price was determined.
"C-Captain? Are you alright?"
"Never change, soldier," Price said gruffly, and Soap could hear the disbelieving grin in his CO's voice. "Never fuckin' change."

Wasp, the Anti-Grineer Warframe
Wasp is going to be the most ordinary of the three Anti-Warframes. I'm actually kind of surprised how much love the Grineer receive as a faction but that's beside the point. Wasp is acquired by defeating Captain Visak Shuuk at Kaentake.
Health: 550 (750 at rank 30) Shields: 100 (150 at rank 30) Armor: 575 (675 at rank 30) Energy: 150 (200 at rank 30) Sprint Speed: 0.95
Passive: Activating any ability increases Wasp's armor by 30% for as long as the ability is active plus an extra 6 seconds after the ability terminates. Successive casts refresh this effect.
Ability 1: Nailgun, 25 energy. Wasp fires a massive iron spike from the barrels on his gauntlets at the enemy closest to his crosshairs within a 90 degree 45 meter cone centered on his aiming reticle, dealing 1,000 times 1+X (where X is equal to the enemy's level divided by 10) puncture damage with 100% status chance to the target enemy. Using Nailgun again within a 1 second window of its last use increases its damage by 250 and status chance by 25% stacking up to six times. If the target enemy is within 15 meters the spike will be aimed perfectly at the victim's head (or similarly vulnerable body part) applying relevant damage multipliers.
Ability 2: Solvent Spray, toggled ability, drains 3 energy per second. While active the mechanical pumps and tubes on Wasp's back and arms activate, spraying flammable caustic fluids from his gauntlets in a 10 meter 90 degree cone. The Solvent Spray deals 400 corrosive damage with 100% status chance per second. Holding the ability key for Solvent Spray ignites the fluid, changing its damage to heat. Damage change can be triggered while Solvent Spray is active or inactive. Wasp moves at full speed and can use all movement techniques while Solvent Spray is active, but all weapon attacks, gear items, and abilities other than Nailgun cannot be used.
Ability 3: Flash Weld, 75 energy. A fluctuating pulse of magnetized plasma blooms out from Cain and then retracts, stripping the defenses from all enemies it touches and adding the stolen armor to Wasp as overguard. Flash Weld emits a radial pulse with an initial radius of 5 meters, which follows him as an aura and rapidly expands outward by 15 meters per second over a duration of 2 seconds. Enemies in direct line of sight of Wasp and within range of Flash Weld's aura have 25% of their current shields or total armor stripped. When Flash Weld expires or when the ability key is pressed again while the ability is active the pulse instantly retracts to Wasp granting overguard based on the amount of shields and/or armor stolen from all affected enemies. Flash Weld cannot grant overguard exceeding a value of 10,000.
Ability 4: Attrition, 100 energy. If there's one thing the Grineer know it's their brutally effective military weapons. When Wasp activates Attrition he becomes a force of pure destruction. For the next 8 seconds Wasp gains infinite ammo, 100% heavy attack combo efficiency, and +30% fire rate and attack speed. When Attrition expires Wasp releases an explosion that deals 100 blast damage in a 12 meter radius with 100% status chance. For every enemy killed by Wasp's weapons while Attrition was active this explosion gains an additional 100 damage, 0.5 meters, and 10% status chance.
Subsumed ability: Nailgun.
Signature Weapon Akgoblins: The Akgoblins are the Tenno answer to some of the Grineer's iconic weaponry. Ironically, the Tenno-made Akgoblins are closer to the original Orokin weapons used by the Grineer of the imperial era than the mass-produced bastardizations seen in their hands today. For players the Akgoblins blueprint is acquired for 25,000 credits from the orbiter market and is crafted using Twin Gremlins and Twin Grakatas plus 5 Morphics to meld them together. Akgoblins are nearly full-sized rifles, with their weight and recoil only a warframe could use them akimbo. The Akgoblins have a full-auto trigger and fire spike-like projectiles with a travel time and arc. Akgoblins capture the strengths of both of the weapons they are based on, having the superior reload speed & damage inherited from the Gremlins and the magazine size, max ammo capacity, accuracy, fire rate, and critical affinity of the Grakatas. Directly improving on both of its predecessors the Akgoblins have an innate 2 meters of punch-through. As Wasp's signature weapon the Akgoblins deal 30% bonus damage when they score a multi-hit with punch-through.
Closing Notes: I was a little nervous about Wasp at first but I've really come around on him. I certainly don't think he's breaking any molds but his combination of damage and tankiness surely leads to easy use.

Enemy Fire: 7
Summary: There’s a new kid in town, and she’s got a city to usurp.
Pairing: Jason Todd x F. Reader
Word Count: 2.1k
Warnings: language, violence, gunshot wounds
AN: photos from Pinterest
They had been following her for fifteen minutes. No doubt, it had been longer, possibly days. They had been good at covering their tracks and staying hidden so far. She could only figure today was the today they were attacking.
YN exhaled, keeping her eyes focused on the fruit in front of her. Deciding a path would be more difficult than she had anticipated.
She could stay there, in the market, in the crowds. Where the trio of men following her would remain hesitant to fire when she could slip off into the crowds and they would lose her.
Or she could leave. Draw the gunfire away from the innocents and avoid any damaging crossfire. The plaza on the west end, just as she left the marker would be almost empty. Not many people were there at this time, most were in the market. She would be the only moving target.
A small weight bumped her leg.
Looking down, YN saw a young boy, giggling up at her as he backed up a few steps. A larger hand came down and grabbed the boy’s. His mother.
“Alexander, say excuse me.” She instructed.
The boy giggled louder, garbling out a half chewed on mimicry of the phrase. YN smiled.
“No problem, little man.” She replied.
The mother and son paid for their groceries and continued down to their next vendor.
Sometimes, she wished she never gained a conscious.
Glancing over her shoulder again, YN saw one of the men, right where he had been earlier. Chatting absently with a vendor. The other two were disseminated around, a loose semi circle to herd her in the direction they wanted.
She left the fruit stand; The vendor’s brows furrowed. YN was a regular customer, it was unlike her to not make a purchase or stop to greet them.
However, she had already disappeared into the crowd before they had a chance to question.
YN hurried toward the end of the vendor stalls, weaving between people and random salesmen.
The men had quickly moved in, now that she was on the move.
They had been spotted.
YN had just broken out of the market, into the plaza when the first shot rang out. Screams echoed behind her, forcing her to kick into another gear. She was practically sprinting.
More gunfire rang out—
“Fuck!” YN cursed, her body jerking and nearly losing balance as a slug went directly through her shoulder.
Her eyes searched frantically for a place to hide; Sprinting across an almost empty plaza was not the place to be when gunmen were firing shots.
Another slug cut its way through the air and lodged itself in her stomach, the bullet remaining in her body.
“Oh, shit!” YN hissed, keeping her head low as she sprinted across to the nearest alleyway.
The three men were close behind, following her mad, unorganized dash.
Another shot popped off, chipping the brick building beside her head. Nearly leaping out of her skin, she flinched and scrambled into the alley.
Pain radiated from her shoulder and gut, thrumming out in time with her heart pumping.
YN ran as far as she could before ducking between two large dumpsters. The stench was acrid, revolting, and she hoped she wouldn’t be stuck long.
The sound of booted feet slowed, echoing down the alley.
She scrunched up as tightly as she could. Scooping her hand around her bullet wound to prevent leaving much of a trail.
There wasn’t much she could do with her shoulder— just grit her teeth and bare the pain.
“Come out, come out, you little bitch.”
Aw hell, YN rolled her eyes, you let a guy get a shot in and he thinks he’s King Shit of Fuck Mountain.
They were still approaching, slower now, that they didn’t have a clear shot, but she doubted they would give up easily.
Think… just slow it down and think. She needed a distraction to escape— she needed to go higher. Out of reach if possible, because she would never be able to outrun them.
There was a fire escape above her, it would be a reach but she could make it.
She moved her hand away from the gushing wound at her side, grimacing at her stained hands. She had to move fast, or the blood loss would begin setting in and she’d be left at their mercy.
Steadying herself on the balls of her feet, she summoned power from her core, directing it to her hands. Preparing for her attack.
The feet stopped; They had felt the temperature rise.
YN leapt from her spot, flames bursting from her palms. Burning a bright hot white, flashing and blinding the trio.
They cried out, trying to block the light, stumbling away.
Thrusting her palms out, she shot fire at the center of the group. Two of the men managed to dodge. The third wasn’t so lucky.
Her flames caught him in a sweeping whirlwind. Effectively creating a wall of fire between them. He screeched— a sound she was unfortunately, very familiar with.
Taking quick advantage of their shock, and their blindness, she scurried away. Clamoring to the top of the nearest dumpster, she leapt up and caught the edge of the fire escape.
Ignoring the shouting behind her, she pulled herself up, her arms straining under the pressure. Grimacing through the searing pain in her shoulder.
The fire died down as she tucked herself into the corner of the building. The smell of burnt ozone lingered in the alley.
“Shit!” The man cried. He looked down to his friend, lying in a heap on the ground. His skin burned and warped; He almost lost his stomach. “Shit, go! We gotta go!”
“But the girl—“
YN pressed herself further against the brick, the cold steel biting into her bare arms. Pressing a hand over her mouth, she choked back sobs. Tears welled in her eyes, blinking them back did nothing to quell their strength.
Ragged breathes still escaped her nose.
“We found her now, we can find her again.” He growled. The injured man whimpered. “She’s not that good.”
“But the money Adrian is paying is.”
“Then you stay, I’m getting him to a hospital.”
There was a quiet grunt, quiet chatter and scuffle. YN didn’t move— didn’t dare to see where they were going. Or if they were leaving as they said.
“Fuck.” The man cursed. He ran a hand through his hair, pacing nervously. He bit his lip, sparing a last glance down the alleyway. “I’ll haunt your dreams, bitch! Sleep with an eye open.”
Yeah, right.
YN kept quiet, keeping herself pressed to the wall. She had been in the game too long to be unaware of traps. Of lies.
And though she was fairly certain that the three men were telling the truth, the one she injured had been burned quite extensively, she wasn’t absolutely certain of it.
Even so, she could wait long enough for them to get further away. She had all day.
A stinging pain erupted from her torso as more blood oozed from the wound.
Okay… maybe not all day.
“Fuckin’ Adrian.” She hissed, pressing a hand to her abdomen.
God, she hated that man. With every fiber of her being, she despised that man.
Sending three unqualified, amateur bounty hunters after her, what a dick move. Couldn’t even kill her himself. Wouldn’t even try anymore.
She wondered if he was beginning to regret her now. Regret training her, taking her in, using her.
She prayed she made him regret his entire existence.
“Oh…” YN stammered, her head spinning. Vertigo plaguing her senses.
Her hand slipped from the railing, losing her balance, and she fell backwards. Tumbling from the fire escape, she landed flat on her back, a low groan left her lips. The air knocked from her lungs— muscles aching.
Pressing her hand to the wound on her stomach again. Her breathing shortened, beginning to become panicked, shallow breaths.
Tears welled over, spilling down her cheeks. The pain overwhelming enough, adrenaline beginning to numb her body.
Her fingers stumbled to her jacket— to the inside pocket. A fresh wave of pain crippled her hands, her lungs, her nerves… it burned.
It burned.
Crying out in agony, she grit her teeth.
“Fuck, I’m gonna regret this.” She groaned, pressing two buttons at the same time, hoping one of them would be correct.
God, she hoped Hood would come through.
Or… someone… someone, whoever was on the other side of this pager.
“The ping is coming from here.” Tim said, frowning down at his phone screen. The blinking red dot over their exact location. He looked up, scanning the alleyway. “I don’t see him.”
Dick groaned, walking three steps ahead and searching every nook and cranny. Tim slowed to a stop, a wrinkle in his brow. His tech had never failed before.
“I swear, if he pinged us and ditched the locator I’ll kill him.” Dick growled. He kicked over a discarded cardboard box.
Tim looked up again. Out of the corner of his eye, a bright red light blinked against the brick. The tip of a black boot stuck out from beside a dumpster.
“Hey, Dick?” Tim called.
“Tim?”
“I think I found it.”
Dick shot up, quickly making his way to Tim before looking down the alley’s offshoot. He pushed Tim aside, running toward the boot.
When he got there, he didn’t see Jason. Only…
Grocery Store Girl.
Grocery Store Girl who had a new, healing scar across her face. And two gunshot wounds in her torso.
“That’s… not a six foot vigilante with an attitude problem.” Dick muttered. He stood blankly, staring down at her.
He had never seen this girl a day in his life, and then suddenly, he saw her everywhere.
Dick snapped out of his stupor when Tim slapped his calf, calling his name. It sounded as though it wasn’t the first time he had tried to get his attention.
“There’s blood.” Tim explained, pressing his hands to her shoulder. Another blossom of red stained her shirt at her abdomen. “She needs help. Call an ambulance.”
“Wait.” Dick interrupted. Tim’s wild, incredulous eyes swung to stare at him. “She has Jason’s locator. He gave it to her for a reason.”
The girl groaned softly, her hand twitching at her side. Blood had dried into the cracks of her fingers, gathered under her nails.
“What if she stole it?” Tim hissed. He scoffed in response.
“Jason’s stupid but he’s not that stupid or clumsy.” Dick reasoned, kneeling down to help staunch the bleed. She moaned louder when he pressed his hand to her stomach. “We’ve got to get her to the manor.”
Tim furrowed his brows, going through all the possibilities of the scenario.
There was a reason she had it. Even if Jason had never formally introduced them, she had to be a friendly.
Even if she wasn’t, they would have her captive to confirm a story from Jason himself. Then they could probably just scare her enough to avoid the police involvement for theft.
Still… something seemed strange about Dick insisting they take her to the Manor.
“What if she’s a trap?” He argued. His argument’s final leg was unsteady, if even an argument at all.
Dick nudged him out of the way, taking over both wounds.
“She’s bleeding out. Even if it is, we can’t risk it.” He nodded to Tim’s discarded phone. “Call Alfred, I’ll try and get this to slow.”
Tim pressed his lips together, finally, with another glance to the girl, he cursed. Standing, he snatched his phone, speed dialing Alfred. He tapped his foot impatiently, visually scanning for clues.
There was nothing even remotely helpful. It didn’t even look like a struggle had occurred in the area.
Nothing was out of the ordinary for an alleyway. Except, maybe the currently bleeding out girl on the ground.
YN’s eyes flicked open slowly, her eyelashes felt matted to her skin. Her throat felt dry— it was difficult to breathe.
Hovering above her, a vaguely familiar face floated into view. Electric blue eyes— the bluest she had ever seen— with a mop of black hair. Full lips and an… aquiline… nose…
Nightwing?
Her vision blurred and she groaned as Dick pressed his hand tighter.
“Hang in there, alright?” Dick murmured. She let out a low whine, her hands moving to hold his wrist loosely. “We’re gonna help.”
His skin was warm beneath her touch and for the first time, someone else was warmer than she was.
Her head lolled back and the surrounding world, and the face, faded almost immediately from her vision.

thread: the prismya incident tuesday, july 25th-friday july 28th, 2006 @everythingheard (chris)
-
tuesday, july 25, 2006 | around 4:38am (stateside local) mild rain, gray morning skies, humid
when jill had half-awoken to the phone ringing on the nightstand in the middle of the night, the woman had allowed a groan to emit from her lips, burying herself further into the blankets she'd already managed to hog. nevermind the fact it was fairly hot in the room-- she'd been one of those people that pumped the air and wanted two sheets and a down quilt even in the height of summer. however, jill had made due with a heavy blanket and chris. she mused more than once that it was an acceptable trade. chris always had felt warm and safe, understanding of those nights she dreamed of tyrants and hunters and everything in-between. understanding of why she had a gun under her pillow even all these years later because they both kept weapons at the ready.
always vigilant. always strong and prepared. but also always accepting of the other.
they hadn't needed to voice these things, they just were. it was natural. they could feel safe from all the horror that was outside the walls of their home, that was on every mission they conducted for the bsaa, because when it was them, it was them.
safe. comfortable. understanding.
jill expects to feel his arms around her after a few minutes, him either telling her that she could stay in her cocoon or that he was going to have to drag her out of bed because they were being called in. when neither happens after a full minute or two and instead she begins to hear the tone of his voice shift, she opens her eyes so that they focus on the clock before she shifts, moving into a sitting position as the covers slide to her waist and she looks at him, a phone attached to his ear. the look she sees sends a chill down her spine and bursts forth such an influx of chaotic memories that she has to take a steadying breath. then she's moving, starting to pull out clothes from the closet and dressers. she doesn't have to ask what kind. she knows. they were going in, they'd be changing into their official gear once they got there.
she only catches bits and pieces of one side of the conversation but it's enough to make her pause when claire's name comes up and it's as if she's back eight years prior. tension in the air, threats abound. racoon city. nemesis. trent sending them on wild missions. claire taken by umbrella. does leon know? jill's always wondered about that. claire and leon. sometimes she wondered if it'd take them another eight years before they realized what they already were. she shakes the thought away when chris hangs up. what he tells her shakes her to the core because it's something new.
it's something terrifying. it's something so much more than bioweapons created by humans. it shakes the fabric of everything she's ever believed to be true.
because it means that monsters, real monsters are real. not just the zombies umbrella or any of the others buying off the black market were creating. it meant true horror was being mixed with existing man-made horror. and with the horrific things she had already been witness to, jill wasn't sure she could even fathom the scope of what this would mean. of what she might see.
and claire..
claire was in the middle of it. where the fuck did this agency get off waiting to tell them she was missing? waiting to tell chris because of some bureaucratic bullshit about clearance? he was claire's brother. and when the hell did claire leave terrasave? jill liked to think her and claire were pretty close but her and chris had had constant missions the last few months and claire had been reeling from whatever had happened between her and leon that jill could never get a straight answer about. maybe they'd all been a little caught up in their own worlds lately.
now they might all pay the price for it.
there's a number of briefings that take place, quickly, somewhat rushed at headquarters. jill and chris' aren't part of the one that the others are. instead the conversation that started on the phone is completed in an office as soon as they gear up. the other bsaa agent's that are going with them have a group briefing and all of them are required to sign nda's that were more detailed than the standard 'don't talk about the details of work outside of work' deal. jill doesn't like it but she can't let herself care about that right now. not when god knew what was happening to claire and she had to focus on chris. on helping him find her. on making sure they kept focus and didn't let their emotions cloud their path.
everyone leaving on the transport is aware of the nature of what they could be walking into even if fathoming it beyond what they'd seen in a dracula movie was difficult. it was hard to know what they might land into, no one knew what this new virus could do. what mixing horrors would birth. but jill and chris know a bit more, have a bigger mission. establish the ground forces, take their alpha team to stop the release of something worse. find claire. find mara. find information about a vaccine if there was one. apparently mara might have knowledge of it.
mara.
jill had thought more than once that the universe had a strange sense of humor in how many coincidences it'd thrown at her over the years. it'd even been almost amusing when her and leon had actually seen each other as adults that day in paris and not just a few words on the phone as they all attempted to form plans against umbrella. however, jill was getting pretty tired of the universe's shit right now. claire was missing, being experimented on and now leon's fucking cousin was in the middle of it too. it meant emotions were going to be high with all the key players in this mission because leon was going to meet them on the ground. his mission priority was apparently going to be finding claire and mara. their mission was that but more multi-faceted.
get some form of control over the ground. find and stop who wanted to release more of the virus. that likely would be one and the same with finding claire and mara as they seemed to be being held by the same people.
but jill knew from experience that this was going to be a hell of a lot more complicated once they hit the ground running. and she could still hear claire on that video her and chris had been shown even hours later when they are still in the air, most of the teams in the other part of the transport and jill finding chris in one of the only isolated spots of the plane.
"we're going to find her, chris." she states, moving to stand next to him and letting her hand find the side of his face. a comforting gesture but also one to focus him. focus him on her words, on her faith in him, them. they weren't big on pda around other agents. their business wasn't other people's and no matter how much they trusted the people they went on missions with there was always something of themselves they kept back with so much betrayal abound in recent years. the other agents weren't becca or barry. they weren't like family to them. they hadn't been through what they had together. but this moment, at least for a few minutes was just them.
"she'll be okay. she's strong. you know that. and you know as well as i do that leon isn't going to stop until he finds her and mara either. the rest.. whatever we're going to deal with on the ground, we'll get through like we always do. all of us are going to get through this. we always do."

I feel like undeniable proof that graphic fidelity in videogames has plateaued is that Batman Arkham Knight, Aliens Isolation, and Metal Gear Solid 5 among other things are all almost 10 years old.
Though from my perspective I haven't played too many major titles in that time. I know you'll see people say they want games that are better but look worse, but I've always figured the costs of game development get inflated because they're trying to pump more into a hot-air balloon.
Then there's games like Spyro, Crash or Ratchet & Clank which are cartoony where they can't make them *more* realistic. So the solution to boosting the visual fidelity is to make them increasingly movie-like, off the backs of Pixar and Dreamworks. More marketable that way, I figure. People like it, so there's nothing wrong there I guess.
I'm saying this out of ignorance though.

There really is a gap in the market (filled primarily by Etsy artists and creators) for adaptive clothing and items
It wasn’t until recently that stores like Target and Kohls and brands like JanSport started introducing lines for disabled people specifically. And even in the mainstream market, a lot of the available items are geared towards children, especially in my experience of looking for adaptive backpacks and clothing for feeding tubes.
I got a backpack from Target because the one my medical supply company sent me looks like a gun case, it’s not great. I still have to modify my Target one because it really seems like it wasn’t designed with real tube supplies like a pump and set ups with flush and feed bags. It’s like the able bodied idea of what tube feeding is went into the idea of the bag. It has ports for wires and has a Velcro hook for a feed bag.
I’ve also looked for clothing for adults with abdominal access and it’s near impossible to find anything. And listings on Etsy are $80 for a t shirt because I’m sure Etsy’s fees for creators are ridiculous

Future of Aramid Fiber Market: Outlook and Key Developments
The global aramid fiber market was valued at USD 4.09 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.1% from 2024 to 2030. Several factors are driving this growth, particularly the rising demand for aramid fibers from a variety of industries such as oil & gas, healthcare, and manufacturing. This surge in demand can be largely attributed to increasing government regulations related to workplace safety, which have made aramid fibers a key material in protective equipment, such as personal protective clothing, gloves, and other safety gear.
Aramid fibers are widely recognized for their high strength, durability, and resistance to heat, making them ideal for use in environments where safety is a top priority. As governments around the world continue to impose stricter safety regulations, industries like oil and gas, healthcare, and manufacturing are increasingly turning to aramid fibers for both safety gear and other applications such as reinforcing materials and components in machinery, equipment, and automotive parts.
However, the market faced some challenges in the past, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The impact of the crisis led to a sluggish growth rate, largely due to a reduced demand from the industrial sector. During the pandemic, government-imposed restrictions led to the temporary closure of a wide range of industries, including manufacturing plants, construction sites, and other key sectors where aramid fibers are typically used. This disruption resulted in limited production and delayed demand, ultimately slowing the market's growth during this period.
Despite these setbacks, the aramid fiber market is expected to recover and continue its expansion, driven by the increasing adoption of aramid fiber products as industries return to normalcy and prioritize safety, along with the ongoing push for more stringent safety regulations. This trend is expected to fuel substantial growth in the aramid fiber market over the forecast period.

Bitcoin Soars as Trump Eyes Comeback: Hidden Opportunities Inside Bitcoin Hits New Heights as Trump's Potential Win Sends Markets into a Frenzy Let me tell you, folks, Bitcoin is having its moment. This bad boy is soaring to a fresh all-time high—yes, we're talking about a jaw-dropping USD 73.8k—as Donald Trump gears up to potentially return to the White House. You can't make this stuff up. It's like watching your favorite reality show—only this one involves enough money to buy a private island. But before you sell your grandmother's pearls to buy Bitcoin, let’s dig a little deeper. Why is Bitcoin on a tear, and what ninja tactics can you use to play this monumental market movement to your advantage? The Hidden Formula Only Experts Use So why is Bitcoin acting like it just won the lottery? Well, the market is pricing in some serious Trump vibes—and I mean serious. There’s this thing called the "Trump Effect" where traders start salivating at the idea of lower taxes, fewer regulations, and a guy in the Oval Office who doesn't mind if the Fed goes a little wild. It’s a bit like giving the markets Red Bull and telling them they’re free to go clubbing all night. With Trump potentially coming back into the game, the crypto traders are out in full force. After all, who wouldn’t want a repeat of that lovely 2017 bull run? But here's where the secret sauce comes in—you've got to anticipate the hype before it becomes the headline. Only the true Forex ninjas know how to jump in and out while others are still Googling "How to buy Bitcoin." Unlocking Secrets the Pros Won't Tell You It’s time for a pro tip, and I’m not talking about those generic YouTube videos. The pros are eyeing volatility with bated breath. Trump’s political rollercoaster is always a two-for-one deal—high volatility and high risk. If you know how to make your peace with volatility, you’re ready to sit at the big kids' table. But there's a twist—instead of going all-in like it's some Vegas poker game, experts are quietly hedging their bets with stable assets. If Trump wins and Bitcoin does a moonshot, they're in; if things go south, they've still got their hedged stablecoins. It’s a win-win situation for those who plan like a chess grandmaster and move like a ninja. How I Turned the Tables on Market Trends Let’s have some real talk. I once almost missed the Bitcoin boat back in 2020. And you know what saved me? It wasn’t a crystal ball, nor was it a Reddit thread with rocket emojis. It was all about understanding market sentiment before it exploded—the subtle ripples before the massive wave. Bitcoin's surge today is a lesson for those who are willing to read between the lines: the Trump buzz creates euphoria, but experienced traders read the real signs—like on-chain data and those hidden OTC trades no one tells you about. So, don't just follow the herd; have an escape route mapped out—in other words, when Bitcoin does this wild dance, make sure you know where the exits are. The Underground Trend You Need to Watch One of the major indicators everyone seems to overlook is how the regulatory narrative shifts during times of political upheaval. Look, Bitcoin’s greatest asset is also its Achilles' heel—the lack of centralized control. When there’s a hint of deregulation, Bitcoin pumps like it's had three espresso shots too many. Trump's win isn't just about what he’ll do directly; it's also about how other government players will respond. The whispers in the crypto forums are saying that some altcoins might pump due to reduced SEC oversight—think XRP or those smaller DeFi projects hiding in the shadows. That’s where the real underground action lies. Diversification is the name of the game—if Bitcoin is your rockstar, let the altcoins be your garage band with serious potential. Playing the Sentiment Game Remember, folks, a successful Forex trader is one who knows how to ride sentiment—even when it's manic. And if there’s one thing we know, it's that Bitcoin's sentiment loves a good political drama. Right now, Trump's potential victory is feeding the crypto fire, but don't get caught up in the hype—understand the "why" behind the price action. The contrarian angle here is to gauge just how much of the recent Bitcoin rally is pure sentiment versus actual utility or adoption. Play it smart—when everyone else is buying at the peak, you might want to think about securing those gains and looking into less exposed opportunities. Counterintuitive Insights from the Smart Money The whales—oh, how we love and hate them—are already prepping their next move, and here's where it gets spicy. When Trump was elected back in 2016, Bitcoin went on a tear, but do you know who really cleaned up? Those who timed their exit perfectly just before the inevitable profit-taking phase. Don’t be fooled into thinking every pump has infinite legs—when whales start playing, they also start dumping once the latecomers jump on board. They make money while everyone else FOMOs into oblivion. The true winners are those who buy the rumor, sell the news—and then laugh their way to the bank while the rest of the herd deals with the fallout. Ninja Moves for Today’s Market Here’s the scoop—this entire Bitcoin pump is like being invited to a surprise birthday party. You want to show up early, enjoy the cake, and leave before the drama begins. If you’re late, all that's left is melted ice cream and a raging headache. So today’s ninja tactic is to play the hype but also keep your eyes peeled for subtle exit signals—like dwindling volume or whale activity on major exchanges. Don’t just set take-profit levels—be the trader who gets out while everyone else is still saying "HODL." Take profits early, and let the hype do the rest for someone else. A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Big Picture A broader look tells us that Bitcoin’s current movement is about far more than Trump; it’s a combination of multiple global narratives—rising inflation concerns, political turmoil, and yes, even advancements in blockchain adoption. So while the Trump factor is certainly worth noting, don't lose sight of the forest for the trees. The smart traders are already shifting focus to market reactions to inflation data and potential future regulatory moves. By understanding all these moving parts, you're not just a trader; you're the puppet master behind the curtain. And trust me, that’s a lot more fun than being the one on the strings. Final Call: Ride the Wave, but Stay Savvy Whether you’re Team Bitcoin or Team Fiat, Trump's potential return is undoubtedly stirring the pot. But let this be your reminder that seasoned traders don’t react—they strategize. Be aware of the hype, play it to your advantage, but most importantly, keep your risks in check. And remember, as with any party—leaving while it’s still fun is always better than getting caught in the hangover.
