#this is word for word what I was thinking when I wrote this shit post lamo#Alfred and alcohol headcanons may be baking in the drafts as we speak 👀#Also also i talked with a PhD history of WW1 culture among the miliary student this past week#they got very excited to tell me that yes this random fact I came across a few years ago was true#that the American civil war and the Boer Wars were pretty much the blueprint for both the WW1 and WW2#a bunch strategies such as trenches were formally developed/used in the 1860s#Gatling gun ? invented to try and save the lives of infantry men#ended up making the action of war SO MUCH more deadly as it started the creation of more deadly machine guns. Civil war was a testing groun#Boer wars invested barbed wire and is where the Nazi fucks got the camp ideas#history
