"I only brought her with me to the market so she can learn how to socialize with people, and for her to experience picking treats with me."

"You were fine this time." he retorted, his voice taking on a slightly higher tone. "But what about the next time?"

You grit your teeth together in frustration, because really, this is getting ridiculous. "Maybe if you didn't think so much about it—"

He doesn't even let you finish before he speaks back, "How can I not think about it? Every time you leave this house, every time you're out of my sight, I can't help but worry." He takes a deep breath to calm his nerves, it's rare that he's ever arguing with you, usually when you're upset with eachother, he usually stays quiet.

"You don't understand. My job has shown me the worst of Humanity, the things they're capable of. I just want to keep you safe." Capitano holds on both sides of your arms, "i trust my men enough to accompany you. But i can never be truly sure that you're safe without me." He's upset, you know it by the way his eyebrows wrinkle together.

But you're not convinced just yet, "our daughter wants to go to the park sometimes. Do you know how many times i had to stop myself from refusing her everytime she frowns at me?"

Capitano's expression hardened again at your words, his jaw clenching tightly. "The park is dangerous," he argued back while applying a bit more pressure on your arms, "It's too open, too vulnerable. There are too many unknowns, too much that could potentially harm you and our daughter."

"It's not like we are going to die." You bluntly respond and it makes his eyes widen, even the sentence makes him shiver. He's one and only fear, not seeing you both because of one mistake.

Just as he parted his lips to answer back, a faint sound—a sneeze coming from the corner of the closet. One you recognise so well that it makes you stiffen in your place, and you notice Capitano pressing his lips into a thin line.

You both turn your heads until met by the little girl attempting and failing to hide on the side of the giant closet.

"she's watching," you whisper, glancing back at him and he nods before sliding his hands off you.

"You can come out," he called gently, his voice softer than the previous argument.

He knelt down on one knee as she stepped out from her hiding spot, his eyes wide with innocence and remorse for the argument she had witnessed. "Come here." He encouraged her, his arms opened slightly for her. And she hesitantly walks at first before taking confident steps towards the comfort of her father's embrace.

You join them after, kneeling down at their level and your husband opens his other arm to squeeze you in with them. Capitano's arm wrapped around her small form, holding her close against his chest.

"I'm sorry you saw us arguing," he murmured, "We didn't mean for you to hear all that." You continue softly.

Your daughter's head turned towards you, her eyes filling with tears as she heard your apologies. She looked between you and Capitano, her lower lip trembling slightly. It's like children can mimick their parents current emotions.

"Your mother and I just had a disagreement. We didn't mean to scare you."

"is everything okay?" She whispers quietly while fidgeting with her fingers together, "Yes." You both instantly respond.

her expression is still uncertain. "We promise," you reassured her again before he gives further more reassurance "Everything's okay, angel. Mama and papa are fine. We're not mad at each other. We're just... going to talk things through, okay?"

She then starts slowly nodding, "that's my brave girl." His lips curl upwards as he strokes the strands of her hair.

"and we will take you to the park."

Your daughter's eyes widened, a small gasp of happiness escaping her lips. She looked up at you, her eyes seem to sparkle even.

Meanwhile, Capitano's eyes narrowed at your declaration. He shot you a warning look, silently reminding you of his previous disagreement.

"... With your father of course." You laugh quietly and his shoulders seem to relax, "fine. We will all go."

"yay! Swings!" The little girl grins while excitedly holding her hands together.

"well, aren't you weak for the little angel?" You whisper to your husband, giving him a small smile, already having forgotten about your argument.

Capitano holds you both closer to him, as if relieved to have this little family in his life, the only thing that makes everything more bearable, "she has me wrapped around her little finger, just like her mother."

"It's okay" He rubbed your shoulder, washing away the last of the soap. You already felt a bit better, your lips slightly agape as you looked down, knees to your chest. "Close your eyes, baby" he rubbed the shampoo into your hair, lathering it as best as he could. You were more than grateful for him. You probably would've rot to death if he hadn't pulled you out of bed.

All that you had been doing for the past week was crying and sleeping. It was a continuous cycle of being in and out of sleep. When you weren't crying you were sleeping. Ethan was still trying to go to college, fix up his life a little and try to get back to normal like how it was before the attack.

Watching your family get brutally stabbed to death, one by one was more than traumatic. You never understood how everyone else could get up and go back to normal after everything. The scene replayed in your head, screams of horror engraved into your brain.

Ethan wrapped you up in a towel, sitting you down on the bed as your hair leaked with water, the bed getting stained. You hated the feeling, it felt like blood on your skin.

He helped you get into your shirt, arms limp arms he pulled it over you. He really wanted you to get better, he wanted the old you back. The happy, charismatic one that had no fears or hatred towards anyone. He didn't mind helping you, he actually enjoyed it. It was all worth it to see the small smile on your face, even if your eyes were shiny with tears.

You lay in bed next to him, his arms wrapped around you while you tried not to cry into his new shirt. "It's okay, you can cry" you shrugged. "That's all I've been doing" his hands ran through your hair, the scent of your shampoo radiating off your locks. "If it makes you feel better then do it, I'm not gonna judge you. You know what you went through was horrible" You smiled up at him, lips a pretty color, complimenting your heavy eye bags.

"I feel...numb I think. And sad" You always had a hard time expressing your feelings, but with Ethan, it was so simple. He never dared to judge you. You were always there for him so he was there for you too.

"That's completely normal, you're just grieving right now" he rubbed circles on your back, pushing your hair behind your ears. "You still look beautiful" He wrinkled his nose, placing kisses all over your face. Your smile grew, it wasn't a small one like the ones you had been giving him for the past week, it was your genuine smile. "There's my pretty girl" you shook your head. "I’ll get better soon enough"

hi do you have any music recs for somebody who's trapped in the industrial rock/metal (kmfdm, nin, etc) cycle and wants to explore more lesser known and weird industrial artists?

Yesssss of course! I’ll try to list some artists I think would directly interest you based on your liking industrial rock. Hopefully this isn’t too much, for each band I’ll link a song from an album I’d recommend starting with :) I’m also not sure how much you know BEYOND the two bands you listed so if these are really obvious and you already know them I’m sorry 😭🙏

My immediate biased answer right now is Foetus because I’ve been obsessed recently. If you like the rock elements of industrial rock I genuinely think Foetus is perfectly accessible but he’s also so deranged and theatrical. Raymond Watts of KMFDM would collaborate with him and honestly once you get into Foetus you realize how much of Raymond’s early stuff is just directly taking inspo lol. Check out the album Nail.

I don’t know from the list you gave if you listen to Skinny Puppy or not, if you don’t you definitely should though. Incredibly important to the formation of what would become industrial rock and also my favorite band of all time. Trent even directly sampled the Skuppy song “Dig It” for “Down In It.” I’d specifically recommend checking out The Process (the most industrial rock of their discography) or Rabies (the most metal—they collaborated with Al Jourgensen of Ministry for it!) to start in your case.

The cool thing with industrial is so many of the older bands are all connected once you go back a bit, so if you find yourself liking a certain artist you can start exploring who they’ve worked with and a whole world of music opens up to you. Two early Skinny Puppy collaborators are The Legendary Pink Dots and Severed Heads. Both of those are also all time favorites and they can really shift your sense of what industrial music is and means because they sound very different from what industrial would become over time. Both formed between 1979-1980. Two favorites from them (off albums that I think are the best starting points!):

Going back a bit further, for the early pioneers I think you’d enjoy Einstürzende Neubauten and Cabaret Voltaire. Both of them were involved from the very beginning of the development of the genre and everything that came after them is in part thanks to them (as well as the other pioneers, but I’m trying not to overwhelm and I think these guys are really good starting points). You can really hear their influence if you trace the progression of the genre from them to the bands they worked with. Start with Neubauten’s Haus Der Lüge since that’s their most well known, & I’d say Cabaret Voltaire’s Code is a good balance between their very experimental early stuff and their most synthpop later stuff.

Of course I do think it’s worth checking out Throbbing Gristle if you haven’t. They’re the OG OGs that actually named the genre and everything. They are significantly less accessible and might not as quickly be your thing but imo they are worth knowing about so you can really hear where it all comes from. Maybe this is just my own preference but I feel like going back through the history and watching the progression and evolution of all of this was a huge part of what made me fully fall in love with the industrial genre and all of its weirdness. It made it feel like such a full and lively subculture of so many different people taking direct inspiration from each other over the years. Coil and SPK as well.

(SPK has very little on Spotify so a Bandcamp link it’ll be, and I’d recommend starting with Coil’s Horse Rotorvator which is not on Spotify but IS on YouTube, though one of the songs IS on Spotify…. lol)

What I basically gave you is a very very quick descent from 90s industrial rock to the beginning of the genre, obviously give or take a couple hundred bands lmao. I guess to me the best thing to do when you’re looking into these genres is to get deeper into the history of ‘em. There’s nothing wrong with preferring bands like NIN or KMFDM to bands like SPK and Throbbing Gristle, but I think it can really deepen your relationship to the former to at least know about the latter and what they sounded like and were doing.

Fad Gadget (start with Fireside Favorites; Tovey was influential for both industrial and goth!)

Lead Into Gold (the solo project of Ministry’s Paul Barker, extremely good both old and new material, check out The Sun Behind the Sun)

If you haven’t yet just in general check out Wax Trax! Records because NIN and KMFDM were directly working with all those guys and that label put out some of the greatest music of all time. Ministry I assume you know if you like industrial metal but you gotta listen through Ministry’s discography starting from Twitch to Filth Pig, Revolting Cocks’ first two albums, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Die Warzau, they’re not actually Wax Trax! but Electric Hellfire Club… etc. That’s obviously a lot of names and might be a bit more overwhelming but just starting with one and going thru who each band member has worked with will open up a MASSIVE world of music.

Umm or disregard all that and if you truly want weird music just listen to Caroliner.

So today i went to my work bc they were holding a christmas themed event w cookies so i hit up my coworker-turned-best friend Lovely Girl to go with me and she was alr getting off her shift there so she was alr there waiting for me

So boom i meet her and there was my number one OPP working her shift at the student worker desk (theres 2 desks: one for student workers and one for full timers) lets nickname her Weird Bitter Cunt (WBC)

So boom we had to pass those fuck ass negative energy desks to go enter the event and Lovely Girl instantly tells me some gossip she heard from the other full time worker and how this one guy who hogs all the hours “ratted me out”/“complained about me” to the full time worker abt how i skip my shifts (i honestly skip my shifts because im lazy and nobody wants to cover for me cuz its always at 8 in the FAWKING morning and nobody wants a ONE HOUR 8AM SHIFT 😍🙏) lets nickname this guy Dog Bitch bc he kisses up to the higher ups and rats ppl out for the smallest shit despite being 30+mins late to his shifts EVERY TIME.

So boom while shes telling me this, that stranger BITCH ASS GUY eavesdropped on us LITERALLY HE LOOKED FUCKING STUPID BECAUSE IT WAS SO OBVIOUS FKAHSOSHC LIKE KILL YOURSELF and so we had to wrap it up then and there

(Its canon that theyre close friends) so immediately i thought okay ugly shit is not to be trusted because he had his fatass friend eavesdrop on me and Lovely Girls convo. If there’s a victim in town you’ll have to get use to Vincent not being at your side 😔 he would need to help Bo chase them down, which would cause ALOT of noise so you wouldn’t even get sleep🙄

After they had killed the victim, Vincent would go to your room and get in bed with you, “Vinnyyyyy” you groan. He looks at your tired scrunched up face and cuddles you to make you feel better😪 ‘sorry’ he signs. You knew he had to do his job but you hated the fact that it would have to be in the middle of the night

On other occasions wear he wouldn’t have someone he needed to chase, you two would just cuddle each other to death and fall asleep in each others arms, quite simple as that
