I was gonna talk about Hibi’s fashion preferences and Edo trends but instead I couldn’t stop thinking about pretty maid outfits so hi, uniforms. A simple, mostly focused pinterest board though while I figure[d] out real world logistics.
Tumblr media
Their family crest (which I rejected the idea of deciding because I’m not visually creative but I accidentally found this and it touched me) is stitched to the back of the shirt collars and cuffs, as well as inside of different parts of the lining of all clothing. This is to keep a sense of uniformity from the gradual flexibility adopted for peoples’ personal preferences in dress and appearances, which are the two easiest sections to split this up in.
Clothes:
Maids are given five of each full uniform, three shoes and one pair of winter boots. These clothes are uniquely made for the Suburashi maids, down to the placement of seams, unnecessary details, fabrics and weave types. When a maid is let go, they must return all items that were catalogued to be in their possession. If anything that is not returned, they are given a hefty fine and all current uniforms are then changed with the ‘help’ of that previous-maid’s pay.
The specific design of the uniforms changes periodically, after a none specific span of time (not just because they make a fired maid pay for it, but) for concerns of security and the adoption of current fashion trends.
What they’re given in the package of clothes: long sleeve blouses or polos (they may choose which but not go back and forth between them), short sleeve blouses/polos, long and knee-length skirts, and pants.
Summer and winter uniforms are dictated by the average highs and lows of the month.
In the winter, employees are allowed to wear black leggings for extra warmth if desired and are given one jacket, hat, and gloves each that can be worn if working outside. The jacket can be layered over something outside of uniform, so long as it is a neutral color and is mostly covered by the jacket.
Nothing outside of uniform is allowed on their person unless given explicate permission.
Between verses, the core concepts are the same, but the style of dress changes to of course fit the fashion of the time.
The historical verse non surprisingly is more stereotypical of what you might expect of maids. Suits and ties vary based on the occasion and long dresses/skirts and blouses varying on the weather. Aprons can either be provided by the home or made/bought by the maid themselves as a way to have a sense of separation from other employees, but they still need to be approved of before being worn and have the family crest stitched into it.
The uniforms are more uniform in this verse with less room for a personal touch because such stark difference between kingdoms isn’t as welcoming to visitors. Guests don’t want to guess who is who.
Appearances:
Hair should look well groomed and put together (ie, it’s okay to do what you want until someone decides it’s not).
Longer hair that would cover the crest on the collar must be pulled back and up as to not cover the crest and to prevent hair from getting in the way. This rule has significantly loosened over the years to allow for more individualism among employees. Again, one of those rules that’s in place as an excuse to flex it whenever someone feels like drawing a line.
Like all great private schools, no unnatural hair dyes/styles are allowed.
Jewelry is fine so long as it is not dangling or a possible hindrance to work. Rings are heavily suggested to leave in personal lockers.
General exceptions:
Uniforms during special events (parties, balls, more important dinners and events) are different. Depending on the event, a new uniform may be made and worn for that one evening and never again. These can be so much as a colorful, thematic dress and pants suit, to so little as being their regular uniform but with added flare like lace, trims, so on; stuff that would make their every day uniforms less practical.
These “one time use” uniforms are typically for birthdays and balls, large parties of the sort, where a drab muted uniform sticks out poorly and doesn’t reflect wealth. The more subtle different uniforms are for the smaller events such as dinners. Typically the changes to these uniforms can be undone to save waste.
These events, if there are children in the home, are the only times nannies are in a uniform coordinating with maids in style and color as to not be confused as a non-employee.
Butlers have no specific uniform out of ease and are largely left to dictate themselves what is and isn’t appropriate. They are also the ones to enforce the other rules.
Other Heads like the top chef, maid, gardener, etcetera, are also welcome (forced) to have more of a decorated uniform, but one that still correlates with the rest of their team. This is of course to separate them from the pack since they’re in charge, but not so much so that it is distracting.

b[Image ID: The first image is a screenshot from the ending of Kingdom Hearts III, showing Isa, Lea, Roxas, and Xion sitting atop the clock tower in Twilight Town, eating sea salt ice cream together and raising it in greeting to their other friends. Roxas is wearing his outfit from the prologue of Kingdom Hearts 2, and Isa, Lea, and Xion finally wearing clothes that aren’t black leather trenchcoats marking them as members of Organization XIII. For Xion, this is her first non-trenchcoat outfit ever. (Isa and Lea were previously depicted in civilian clothes in Birth By Sleep, where they were teenagers.)
The second image shows an amigurumi of Xion in her outfit from this scene, a black blouse with ruffled sleeves and a belt, a short white pleated skirt, and dark brown boots that go up to mid-calf with laces crossing the lighter brown cuffs on top. The amigurumi has light blue safety eyes, and a v-shaped smile embroidered in black yarn. She is sitting on the side of a light fixture, with her legs bent off the side, in front of a box of Cheez-Its. This picture was taken of the amigurumi as originally made in about March 2019.
The third image shows the same amigurumi with some minor modifications. Her face has been modified, as shown in the fourth image, there is now a dark gray square buckle marking her belt, and her boots now have laces running up the tongue, bows tied at the final laces across her cuffs, and two pairs of silver studded buckles.
The fourth image shows a closeup of the amigurumi’s face, showing a small smile embroidered in black embroidery floss, and an embroidered black eyebrow over her left eye, the right portion of her forehead being covered by her bangs.
The fifth image shows the Xion amigurumi, next to a matching Lea amigurumi, sitting atop a jewelry box. Lea is posed so that his left leg is raised slightly off the jewelry box, while his other leg dangles off the edge. Xion sits neatly with her legs dangling off the edge of the box. Both of them have their right arms raised, waving at the viewer. End ID]
Alright, this took a moment to break down in full and get the pictures I wanted for her, but here she is! My KH3 Xion amigurumi, now slightly spiffed up! (Lea will get his own post.)
This gets a LOT more in-depth under the cut, as I break down what I did, and also precisely why her outfit is fantastic but this project was a labor of deepest, deepest love.
First, some technical specs. She’s about ten inches tall all told, and has wire inside to make her posable, as you can see. My original design for her took... eh, a couple months? I started almost as soon as we finished Kingdom Hearts 3. This is actually my second Xion amigurumi - my first was a lot smaller, my first attempt at doing something this ambitious without a pattern, and made in winter 2018 before she finally had a non-cult outfit. (So, yes, I finished one and then almost immediately started a second.) This refurbishing took about three days, and most of that involved my subpar embroidery skills.
I was proud of her before, to be clear - she’s some of my most ambitious work, especially given I’d only been crocheting for about a year and change when I made her, and I went to a LOT of effort getting screenshots of the two scenes it appears in from the ending cutscene. Which are both lit in sunset, making properly gauging the colors difficult. I realized after the fact that I’d missed the buckles on her shoes (as opposed to the laces, which I deliberately simplified,) and figured I’d add them later. Then when I started seriously working on Lea about a year later in summer 2020, I made a couple more detailed additions to his face (He kind of needs eyebrows with that widow’s peak, where the size of Xion’s bangs when crocheted meant I could get away without,) and they’re likely to be details I continue adding for the rest of the set now that I’ve cleared up enough of the tendonitis I got MAKING Lea. So I wanted my favorite character to stand up to her friends.
(In case you’re wondering: Hypermobility plus tendonitis plus not having a hypermobility-trained PT when you first realize you have tendonitis equals ‘having tendonitis for two years because the PT exercises you were given were working the wrong muscles’. Whoops. Good news is that has since been sorted.)
Let’s start with the new work first. The changes to Xion’s face are pretty straightforward - cut off the old smile, spent like an hour deciding what the best expression and placement for her new smile was, added an eyebrow. I don’t really need a new photo for that.
The bulk of it goes in the shoes, anyway.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A closeup of the Xion amigurumi’s boots, showing they are dark brown with lighter brown cuffs, black laces going up to the cuffs with bows tied between them, and two pairs of silver buckles across the bridge of each shoe. The lower buckle of each pair is smaller than the upper buckle. End ID]
I’m not particularly good at tying knots by default - my shoes are all slip-ons or buckled with Velcro, and my embroidery skills are pretty limited because I struggle to do any of the ornamental knots even though they’d be VERY useful for me. So instead of actually tying the embroidery off into bows, which seemed kind of risky, I figured out how to tie a handcuff knot, tightened it enough to serve the purpose, and then sewed them on VERY thoroughly. It looks a bit messy, and it probably is still not the most sturdy method here, but it should serve my purpose and it’d be relatively easy to remake and resew if need be.
I put A LOT of work into getting those crosses straight. Especially across the cuffs, which isn’t even visible anymore with the bows sewn on, but hey. I know I did it.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Closeup of Xion’s boots from the clock tower scene, showing the laces, cuffs, and that the studs on the upper buckles are larger than the studs on the lower set. End ID]
Like I said, I knew I’d missed some kind of braiding or the like on Xion’s boots a while ago. The wikis didn’t have great images, so I checked Youtube for the reMind version of the ending and screenshotted them myself.
Yeah, that’s not braiding. Those are studded buckles. ASYMMETRICALLY studded buckles.
This is far from the worst ‘this outfit is gorgeous but shouldn’t be made in crochet’ moment, compared to things that I had to deal with in the original design (and Lea, we’ll get into HIM later,) but it is definitely a pain. Especially since, with the scale of the doll as she is, I couldn’t simply embroider the smaller studs on - the stitches are too big for that. So instead, I took my three-strand, medium weight acrylic silver yarn, unraveled it, crocheted with the individual unraveled strands, and hoped desperately that it would maintain structural integrity long enough to sew them to the boots, especially because I have a habit of leaving too long a tail to sew on because I misjudge how long everything will need. But this worked! Yay. They’re not strictly accurate, but they do give the same detailing the buckle studs do, and it’s about the closest I can come given the scale of the doll and the work I’d already done - to make her entire body properly scaled, the boots are in the same medium-weight yarn as the one I had for her skintone, since they are her feet, and that means the stitches are a certain size as well. Besides, I’m about to get into the main details of her outfit, or:
Why Xion’s KH3 Ending Look is GORGEOUS, But A Nightmare To Crochet.
For those of you who don’t crochet, there are a couple things to keep in mind for this.
First, crochet stitches are inherently different from knitting. By default, they tend to have a stiffer structure than knitting. This makes it the more popular craft choice for amigurumi, since it’s easy to make three-dimensional, rounded shapes that hold their shape in crochet. For example, a doll’s head or body - Xion’s head and torso are all one piece, with the arms and legs stitched on separately and the outfit crocheted overtop her main body. (The skirt is actually attached to the main structure of her torso, not just sewn on. I’ll get into that later.) Or that boot shape. What this doesn’t do well is drapery, like say... pleats. It’s also pretty iffy on ruffles, though scalloped shell patterns aren’t that bad. So you know, two of the most distinctive aspects of this outfit texturally are things that the medium isn’t very suited to.
The second thing is that while you can have some VERY elaborate stitch structures and varieties with crochet - just look up granny squares or crocheted lace - allowing for some interesting textural detailing, black yarn tends to eat ALL detail. It just doesn’t show. Not on crochet, at least, and certainly not with the medium-sized yarn weight I was using to match the size of the skintone yarn. (You can find black yarn at pretty much all sizes in any craft store without issue. Finding shades of beige or brown can be harder, especially in smaller sizes.)
Xion’s blouse, of course, is black details on black panels on black. You can’t embroider the buttons on, because it’s black. The belt buckle, once I checked, is also black. Everything’s black. And tragically, my plan for the buttons when I was first crocheting her (using very small safety eyes, which would be shiny) failed because anything small enough to work was too small to stay in the stitches. I added some textural details where I could, but they don’t show up at a distance. So since I was already going to rework her a bit to add a smile and the shoe buckles, I decided I’d add a dark gray belt buckle as well just to add a little visual variety to the blouse, even if it’s probably inaccurate, strictly speaking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: The first image is a closeup of Xion in a later scene from the ending, showing her kneeling on a beach. Image is focused on her blouse, showing details like the size of the sleeve ruffles (very small), the collar and paneling, two lines of six buttons each running above and below the belt, and the belt buckle, which is almost certainly black. I chose to ignore this because literally no other details would show up.
The second image is a closeup on the Xion amigurumi’s blouse, taken when I originally finished her, showing that she has a collar, a closer look at the ruffles, and black raised sections marking both the central plackett of her blouse and the belt. These are not very visible from a distance, as seen in that second image way back at the beginning.
The third image shows the blouse again, now with a dark gray buckle embroidered on, as well as the white pleated skirt. End ID]
The collar exists - it’s even sewn on - but not very visible, because black. I think I just added them in by working into the side of the blouse, which was a separate piece from the head, torso, and skirt. The plackett and belt are both lines of surface crocheted black, in different directions for each. Embroidering the belt buckle was all about placement. It still took me like half an hour to place it in a way I was happy with it, but it’s straightforward.
I actually didn’t make a note at the time how I made the ruffles, but I’m fairly confident it’s the same technique described here by Shiny Happy World - Single crochet increased enough per round to make a ruffled edge. The end ruffles are still proportionately bigger than the in-game outfit, but I don’t think it’s POSSIBLE to make them smaller at this scale. Plus, I’m happy with it.
And then there’s the skirt. Like I said before, it’s actually part of the main body - I’d have to check my notes to be sure, but I’m pretty confident Xion’s body was made from the bottom up, with a white section at the beginning and then switching to tan in a row where I worked back loops only where the skirt would begin. When I was ready to make the skirt, I then attached white yarn to the front loops and searched for a method to crochet pleats.
I will note once again that crocheting pleats is REALLY difficult, and shoutout to this tutorial by Sick Lil Monkeys and this tutorial from Tales of Butterflies detailing two techniques - the first technique is identical to the previous link’s, but the extra pictures helped a lot. The end result is a skirt that’s successfully pleated and holds its shape even while Xion does what she is meant to do - sit atop tall things with her friends. The particular design makes dolls that are pretty top-heavy, though, so getting that effect tends to require something behind her to brace. (Don’t be fooled by that picture - Xion has the obvious box backing her up, but Lea is also being braced by a small plush keychain. It’s just that his posture is already compensating for his MASSIVE hair.)
At some point I really need to make some little sea salt ice creams for everyone. Probably once I finish the set - I’m thinking I break back into the dollmaking with Namine (who I wanted to make anyway, as she deserves love and friends and ice cream, and who is by FAR the easiest of the group to crochet,) and then I think it will finally be Roxas’s turn. (Unless I put him off a bit longer to do Ahiru as Princess Tutu, since I already have the yarn for that after stumbling on a PERFECT shade of pink for the underskirt. But I’ve kept the trio un-reunited for quite a while.)
MAN that outfit’s gonna be tricky, though. And the hair spikes.
I have yarn picked out so I CAN eventually do Isa but he will absolutely be last of the five. He knows what he’s done.

The Ultimate Guide to Men's Bridal Wear and Bridal Dresses for Winter Weddings
Weddings are a beautiful blend of tradition, fashion, and personal style. From the groom’s dashing attire to the bride’s breathtaking lehenga, each outfit is a significant part of the ceremony. If you're planning a winter wedding, you'll want to look your best while staying warm. This blog explores the latest trends in mens bridal wear, bridal lehenga for wedding, and winter wear for women, ensuring you make a stylish statement while keeping comfort in mind.
Tumblr media
1. Men's Bridal Wear: A Perfect Blend of Tradition and Style
Groom’s fashion has come a long way, with several options for mens bridal wear ranging from traditional to contemporary. Here are some popular choices:
SherwanisSherwanis have always been a classic for Indian weddings. Elegant and ornate, sherwanis come with intricate embroidery, beadwork, or sequins. For winter weddings, you can opt for sherwanis made of heavier fabrics like velvet or silk, which not only look regal but also keep you warm. Pairing a sherwani with a stole or dupatta can elevate the look.
Jodhpuri SuitsFor a royal and structured appearance, Jodhpuri suits are an ideal choice. They offer the sophistication of a Western suit combined with traditional Indian designs. A Jodhpuri suit in rich fabrics like brocade or velvet is perfect for a winter wedding.
Bandhgala JacketsBandhgala jackets have become a favorite in the realm of mens bridal wear. Known for their sleek, fitted look, these jackets are a great option for grooms who want something formal but comfortable. They come in a variety of styles and can be paired with trousers or churidars.
Modern Tuxedos For those who want a modern touch, tuxedos with Indian elements are an excellent choice. Adding ethnic accessories like a turban or embroidered pocket square can give your tuxedo a unique, cross-cultural appeal.
2. Bridal Lehenga for Wedding: Capturing Elegance and Glamour
A bridal lehenga for wedding day is undoubtedly one of the most important choices a bride makes. Whether you prefer something traditional or want to experiment with contemporary styles, there are plenty of stunning options to consider.
Traditional Red LehengaThe classic red lehenga never fails to create an impact. Red is considered an auspicious color in Indian weddings, and a beautifully embroidered red lehenga can make any bride feel like royalty. To add a modern twist, brides can incorporate gold zari work, sequin embroidery, or even opt for double dupattas for added drama.
Pastel LehengaFor brides looking for something less conventional, pastel lehengas are a growing trend. These soft shades like peach, baby pink, or mint green offer a delicate and ethereal look, ideal for a daytime wedding. Paired with rose gold or diamond jewelry, pastel lehengas exude understated elegance.
Velvet Lehenga for Winter WeddingsWinter weddings call for fabrics that keep you warm while looking glamorous. A velvet bridal lehenga for wedding ceremonies is a stunning option, combining opulence and comfort. Deep jewel tones like emerald, navy, or maroon work perfectly for a winter bride, and the luxurious texture of velvet adds an air of regality.
Floral Embroidered Lehenga Floral motifs are another popular trend in bridal wear. Whether embroidered with thread or enhanced with 3D appliques, floral designs bring a modern twist to the traditional bridal look. Brides who want to make a statement while keeping it chic can opt for this style.
Tumblr media
3. Women's Bridal Dresses: Versatile and Timeless Options
Apart from lehengas, there are various other women bridal dresses to consider for pre-wedding events or even the big day itself.
SareesA saree is always a timeless and elegant option for weddings. Heavily embroidered sarees made from silk, chiffon, or velvet can look stunning in winter. Pairing the saree with a full-sleeved blouse or a shawl can help you stay warm while looking glamorous.
Anarkali SuitsAnarkali suits are a fantastic option for brides who prefer a more conservative look. They are flowy, comfortable, and can be heavily embellished for bridal events. For winter weddings, opt for Anarkali suits made of thicker fabrics like velvet or silk.
4. Winter Wear for Women: Staying Stylish and Warm
As temperatures drop, dressing for comfort without compromising on style becomes a priority. Whether you're the bride, a bridesmaid, or a guest, winter fashion is all about layering and choosing the right fabrics.
Embroidered ShawlsFor added warmth and elegance, embroidered shawls are the perfect accessory for a winter wedding. Shawls made from wool, cashmere, or pashmina with intricate embroidery not only keep you warm but also enhance your outfit.

The Ultimate Guide to Women's Leather and Puffer Vests
Women's fashion is an ever-evolving landscape, but some items remain timeless and versatile, like leather and puffer vests. These two wardrobe essentials offer a unique blend of style, comfort, and functionality, making them must-haves for any fashion-forward individual. Whether you're looking to add a touch of edge to your outfit with a leather vest or seeking warmth and coziness with a puffer vest, this guide will help you navigate the world of women's leather and puffer vests. We'll explore their benefits, how to style them, and why every woman should have at least one of each in her wardrobe.
Tumblr media
The Appeal of Leather Vests: Timeless and Edgy
1. Why Leather Vests Are a Wardrobe Essential
Leather vests have long been a symbol of rebellion, strength, and independence. From the biker culture to high fashion runways, leather vests have been a staple in women's fashion for decades. The allure of leather lies in its versatility and durability. A well-made leather vest can last for years, if not decades, becoming more comfortable and stylish with time.
One of the biggest advantages of leather vests is their ability to effortlessly elevate an outfit. Whether you're wearing jeans and a t-shirt or a flowy dress, adding a leather vest can instantly transform your look from ordinary to extraordinary. The texture and structure of leather add a layer of sophistication and edge that is hard to achieve with other materials.
2. How to Style a Leather Vest
Styling a leather vest is all about balancing the ruggedness of the leather with softer, more feminine elements. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Casual Chic: Pair your leather vest with a simple white tee and distressed jeans for a laid-back yet stylish look. Add ankle boots and a statement necklace to complete the outfit.
Boho Vibes: For a more bohemian look, layer your leather vest over a flowy maxi dress. Opt for earthy tones like brown or tan leather, and accessorize with layered jewelry and a wide-brimmed hat.
Office Ready: Yes, you can wear a leather vest to the office! Choose a sleek, tailored leather vest and layer it over a crisp white blouse. Pair it with tailored trousers or a pencil skirt, and finish the look with pointed-toe heels.
Night Out: For a night out, pair a black leather vest with a fitted dress or a chic jumpsuit. Add some bold accessories, such as statement earrings or a chunky bracelet, and you're ready to hit the town.
The Cozy Comfort of Puffer Vests
3. Why Puffer Vests Are Perfect for All Seasons
Puffer vests are the unsung heroes of transitional weather. They're lightweight yet warm, making them ideal for layering during the colder months or for throwing on during a chilly evening in the summer. The appeal of puffer vests lies in their practicality—they provide warmth without the bulk of a full jacket, making them perfect for active lifestyles.
Modern puffer vests come in a variety of styles, colors, and materials, from classic quilted designs to sleek, streamlined versions. They're also incredibly versatile, easily pairing with everything from athletic wear to casual outfits, and even more dressed-up ensembles.
4. How to Style a Puffer Vest
Puffer vests are incredibly easy to style, thanks to their versatility. Here are some ideas to inspire your next outfit:
Athleisure Look: Pair your puffer vest with leggings, a long-sleeve shirt, and your favorite sneakers. This look is perfect for running errands, going for a walk, or even a casual brunch.
Layered Warmth: Layer your puffer vest over a chunky sweater and skinny jeans for a cozy, winter-ready outfit. Add knee-high boots and a beanie for extra warmth and style.
Smart Casual: For a more polished look, layer your puffer vest over a button-up shirt and chinos. This combination is great for casual Fridays at the office or a weekend outing.
Pop of Color: If you want to make a statement, choose a puffer vest in a bold color or pattern. Pair it with neutral pieces to let the vest be the star of the show.
Choosing the Right Vest for Your Style
5. Leather vs. Puffer: Which Vest Suits You Best?
While both leather and puffer vests have their unique appeal, choosing the right one depends on your personal style, needs, and the occasion.
For a Classic Look: If you prefer timeless, sophisticated pieces, a leather vest is the way to go. It's perfect for adding an edge to your wardrobe and can be dressed up or down.
For Practicality: If you're looking for something more practical and versatile, especially for colder weather, a puffer vest is ideal. It's comfortable, easy to layer, and provides warmth without adding too much bulk.
For a Statement Piece: Both leather and puffer vests can be statement pieces, depending on the design. If you're looking for something eye-catching, opt for a leather vest with unique detailing or a puffer vest in a bold color or pattern.
Ultimately, the choice between a leather and puffer vest comes down to your personal style and how you plan to wear it. Some women might even find that having both types in their wardrobe offers the best of both worlds.
Caring for Your Vests: Maintenance Tips
6. Keeping Your Leather and Puffer Vests in Top Shape
To ensure your vests last for years to come, proper care is essential. Here are some tips to keep your leather and puffer vests looking their best:
Leather Vests:
Store your leather vest in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and cracking.
Use a leather conditioner periodically to keep the material soft and supple.
Spot clean any stains with a damp cloth and mild soap. For tough stains, consider taking it to a professional leather cleaner.
Puffer Vests:
Follow the care instructions on the label, as some puffer vests can be machine washed, while others may require dry cleaning.
If machine washable, use a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Tumble dry on low with a few clean tennis balls to help maintain the vest's shape and fluffiness.
Store your puffer vest in a breathable garment bag to avoid flattening the insulation.
By taking the time to care for your vests properly, you'll ensure they remain stylish and functional for many seasons to come.
Conclusion: The Best of Both Worlds
Women's leather and puffer vests are essential wardrobe staples that offer style, versatility, and practicality. Whether you prefer the edgy sophistication of leather or the cozy warmth of puffer, these vests can be styled in countless ways to suit any occasion. With the right care, these pieces will remain fashionable and functional for years, making them worthy investments for any fashion-conscious woman.
So, whether you're layering up for winter or adding a stylish touch to a summer outfit, don't overlook the power of a well-chosen vest. Embrace both leather and puffer vests in your wardrobe, and you'll always have the perfect piece to complete your look.

The second costume of my fantasy costume series: my elven clothes!
Once again, this is another part in the series of outfits that I sewed for different cultures of my fantasy world, and the link to the master post can be found here
I will unashamedly admit that this is the one that looks the most like your stereotypical “fantasy/ren faire” outfit. And you know what? That’s kind of a vibe.
It wasn’t even super intentional honesty. This one is pretty strongly inspired by European folk dress and 18th/19th century peasant dress. That just happens to be where a lot of fantasy clothes take their inspiration from
Tumblr media
Now, the climate of the elven lands generally gets warmer the further north you go until it’s almost bordering on equatorial in some far Northern peninsulas and islands, and it’s overall rather warm and wet, with short, mild winters and long, hot, humid winters. Conveniently, this is just like the climate of my native Virginia, so I have plenty of knowledge about what clothes work for this climate and what doesn’t, as well as ample opportunity to test them out. And it did work; of all the costumes I’ve made, whether for this project or other ones, this is one of the very few I can comfortably wear in high summer (well, comparatively. There’s only so comfortable one can get in the summer when one lives around the horrible swamp city that is DC. In the horrible swamp state of VA. In the horrible swamp region that is the American South).
Anyways, because of this (and because of what fibers grow in what climates), elven clothes are almost always made of cotton (it’s also one of their major exports), although wool does sometimes appear in clothing like shawls and underskirts meant for cold weather, coming from the fae lands to the south. They’re also known for their vibrant and colorful dyes, so most of their clothes reflect this widespread availability (save blouses, which are pretty much universally white)
The base layer of elven dress is the blouse, which is white, made out of a lightweight cotton, comes down to about knee length so that it can act as a slip under the other layers, and has a drawstring at the neck and the wrists. They tend to be very full, which, along with the drawstrings, makes them very adjustable (a trait visible in a great deal of preindustrial clothing, including much of the clothing of my world, but especially so in elven dress), and they way that they’re cut, with raglan sleeves and straight seams, mean the only fabric that needs to be cut away is a pair of very small triangles on the tops of each of the panels. With nicer clothes, such as the outfit I made, the sleeves are often decorated with white-on-white embroidery, sometimes including eyelet work. The lightweight, white fabric and full sleeves help keep cool in hot temperatures, while long sleeves offer sun protection as well as protection against mosquitoes. The fact that they’re white also helps with laundry, since with white fabric you don’t have to worry about dyes fading in the wash and the blouses would be by far the most frequently washed items of clothing. The inspiration behind these was mostly in the camicia of renaissance era Italian dress: white, decorated, and serving as a shift/chemise but also having a decent amount, especially in the sleeves, visible.
The next layer is the skirt, which is cut in tiers of multicolored fabrics. This helps get a very full hem without using as much fabric, and also allows you to use narrower strips of fabric that might be left over from cutting out other items or clothing. Mine only has embroidery at them hem, since I didn’t trust my skills to do a bunch of different designs and also hand embroidery takes a long time, but it would not be uncommon for those skirts to have embroidered decoration on every other tier, or even all of them (sometimes you see skirts with wider, decorated tiers and narrow plain ones in between). They might be hemmed anywhere between floor length for fancier clothes to the more common about mid-calf length, and they fasten with a drawstring at the waist. Elven clothing does also include pants (I opted for the skirt variation because a. cultural gender norms do play something of a part in it and b. big twirly skirt), but they maintain the look with bands of fabric mimicking the tiered skirts below the knee, often also decorated with embroidery.
The bodice is the only really fitted item of clothing, and even then the lacing up the front makes it adjustable. It has boning along the center front to help the lacing stay straight, as well as along the front and back seams, made out of reef boning, which is fairly lightweight and flexible but still does it’s job of keeping the fabric in place. Mine ended up a little long (I thought that the pattern would be too short and lengthened it. Turns out it was the right length originally), but all in all it’s really comfortable, and it gives plenty of bust and back support
I wore a flower crown with this outfit, which is traditional for many special occasions, and my hair is twisted up into a bun and secured with a wooden hair stick, which is the most common style among the elves. I also have on stockings (which would be worn in colder weather or with nicer clothes), and while I did try and make shoes that would be accurate, they failed miserably (same with the shoes for my demon outfit!), so I will never allow those to see the light of day, so instead you get a picture of the doll size shoes that inspired the style (again, this would be a style more worn for colder weather or nicer clothes. Sandals are more common for daily wear in the warmer seasons, but I hate wearing sandals and don’t own any)
Tumblr media
(This is the general shape, although in my version the ties went through one loop at the back of the heel, not two at the side. The cords then wrap up around the ankle a couple of times. The uppers and lining were a thick, stiff cotton and the soles were leather [well, the fake leather that I got as a remnant months before this project to make a doll leather jacket with and then never used])
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, this skirt has a lot of twirl. It is wonderfully fun to wear
There are a few of items of clothing I left out, mostly because they are more weather-specific: wide straw hats with cord or ribbon ties for sun protection, wide, triangular shawls with tassels on the corners and often an embroidered decoration at the wide angle of the triangle, worn draped over the shoulders, crossed over the chest, and tied at the center back, and elbow length, fingerless mitt worn under the sleeves in cold weather to add some warmth
I have no idea how to conclude this post, so I hope this was interesting I guess!

The Perfect Pair: Styling a Purple Saree with a Contrast Blouse
The saree is a timeless garment that offers endless possibilities for styling. Among the many color options, a purple saree stands out for its rich, regal appeal. Pairing a purple saree with a contrast blouse can elevate the look, adding a modern twist to a classic outfit. Here’s a guide to understanding and styling a purple saree contrast blouse.
Why Choose a Purple Saree?
Purple is a versatile and elegant color that symbolizes luxury, creativity, and ambition. Here are some reasons why a purple saree for women is a great choice:
Regal Appeal: Purple has historically been associated with royalty and sophistication. Versatility: The color works well for various occasions, from weddings and festivals to formal events and parties. Unique Look: While red and gold are traditional choices, purple offers a unique and eye-catching alternative.
Choosing the Right Contrast Blouse
A contrast blouse can significantly enhance the overall look of a purple saree. Here are some tips for choosing the right contrast blouse:
Color Combinations: Consider complementary colors that pair well with purple. Popular choices include: Gold or Yellow: Adds a bright and festive touch. Green: Provides a striking and vibrant contrast. Pink: Creates a feminine and elegant look. Silver or Grey: Offers a subtle and sophisticated contrast. Orange: Adds a bold and lively flair.
Fabric Choices
The fabric of the blouse plays a crucial role in the overall appearance and comfort. Here are some fabric options to consider:
Silk: Luxurious and traditional, perfect for a grand and regal look. Velvet: Adds a rich texture and depth, ideal for winter events. Georgette: Lightweight and flowy, suitable for a more relaxed and contemporary style. Brocade: Intricately woven, providing a festive and opulent appearance. Cotton: Comfortable and breathable, great for casual or daytime events.
Design and Embellishments
The design and embellishments of the blouse can further enhance its appeal. Here are some popular options:
Embroidery: Adds intricate details and elegance. Zari Work: Gold or silver thread work that complements the richness of the purple saree for women. Sequins and Stones: Provides a touch of sparkle and glamour. Mirror Work: Reflective embellishments for a festive and vibrant look. Minimalistic Design: For a modern and sleek appearance, opt for minimal embellishments.
Blouse Styles
Different blouse styles can create varied looks, from traditional to contemporary. Here are some blouse style options:
Boat Neck: Offers a chic and modern look. Off-shoulder: Adds a trendy and fashionable touch. High Neck: Provides a sophisticated and elegant appearance. Sleeveless: Perfect for a sleek and contemporary style. Full Sleeves: Adds a traditional and regal look.
Accessorizing the Look
Accessories play a crucial role in completing your outfit. Here are some suggestions for accessorizing a purple saree contrast blouse:
Jewelry: Depending on the occasion, you can opt for traditional gold jewelry, statement pieces, or minimalist designs. Footwear: Choose embellished sandals, heels, or traditional juttis to complement your sarees. Hairstyle: Traditional buns adorned with flowers, loose curls, or sleek ponytails can enhance your look. Makeup: For a cohesive appearance, match your makeup to the color scheme of your saree and blouse. Bold lips and defined eyes work well for formal events, while natural tones are great for daytime occasions.
Occasions to Wear a Purple Saree with a Contrast Blouse
A purple saree contrast blouse is suitable for various occasions, including:
Weddings: The rich color and contrast make it perfect for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Festivals: Ideal for festive occasions like Diwali, Navratri, and Durga Puja. Parties: Suitable for evening parties and formal gatherings. Cultural Events: Great for cultural events, traditional functions, and family celebrations.

Top Indian Womens Fashion 2024 - All You Need to Know About Fashion Trends - The Jaipur Loom
It's the fifth month of 2024 already! Our minds and hearts are filled with planning the next trip, wedding clothing, office look, party look, and much more. While trends change, certain fashion statements stay a little longer.
A more easygoing, playful, and sustainable fashion trend is in store for 2024. Of course, fashion will always veer between the newest trends and traditional looks, particularly in the case of Indian attire.
The majority of Indian fashion designers focus on the skill of combining old Indian traditions and artistry with modern designs and cuts. So, combining contemporary style with Indian culture is another theme in this year's fashion expectations.
With The Jaipur Loom, let's explore the major trends expected to rule Indian womens fashion this year.
Tumblr media
Indian Womens Fashion Classic and Contemporary
Sarees and Indian fashion go hand in hand. Some of the most well-liked designers believe that people will start to focus more on recycling clothing. Indian sarees, salwar kameez, Anarkali outfits, and reusable lehengas are famous for brides, bridesmaids, and modern ladies. This will be the initial phase of minimalism.
Kalidars, gowns, palazzo suits, lehengas, jackets, kurtas, sharara suits, trademark blouses, and dupattas complement diverse color schemes and occasions. Vibrant pink, sorbet, and blush tones of fuchsia. The most popular colors are beige-gold, powder blue, lilac, grey-blue, and metallic gold and silver.
Tumblr media
Indian Womens Fashion Bold & Bright Shades
Vibrant, vivid, and elegant colors are returning. The cheerful colors have changed significantly, as 2024 looks more hopeful than ever and prepares for a better life. The style also features airy trousers and flowing kurtas in bold colors. But Indian sarees have a unique place for celebrations. Sarees will always be in style when worn with long-sleeved embroidered blouses. The palette is dominated by pink, yellow, and red tones, but one can also pick earthy and shimmering colors. Indian kurtis can be an excellent choice for 2024. Buy Indian short kurti  online from The Jaipur Loom.
Indian Womens Fashion Trends 2024, Style, Color, and Pattern Trends
Everything you need to know about the upcoming New Indian womens fashion trends in 2024. Some Indian fashion trends have continued to evolve for a few years now. But there have always been variations from these trends.
Metallic Trend in Indian Womens Fashion 2024
You can't ignore the vivid and dazzling metallic trend of the year. Most mention the lovely saree and lehenga gorgeous Gota patti in loud and large designs on soft materials. To summarize, you should follow the metallic trend in Indian fashion for ladies.
Styling a Gorgeous Saree is a fresh take on the saree that will be popular in 2024 for party and wedding attire.
Pick the metallic color suit style in a loose-fitting, aline kurta with little embellishment on the border, trousers, and dupatta. This is a new Punjabi suit trend in metallic color this year.
Winter weddings are often perfect for pairing a fluffy lehenga with a full-sleeve choli. The metallic lehenga is made in a silvery shade of glazed satin or net and embellished with sequins or zari yarn to wear to a wedding this year.
Tumblr media
Long Shrugs and Ethnic Jackets Trend
The jacket or shrug style is an additional edge and style popular in Indian clothing. These are the trendy accessories that look best worn with more flair. The newest Indian womens fashion trend in jackets is embellished, either short or mid-length, and includes zari, beads, or zardozi designs. Reversible quilted jackets are also a great option to  buy quilted jacket for women this year.
Different Styles of Ethnic Jackets
The trendy short-cropped ethnic boho jackets, similar to the short structured jackets, look fantastic with Indo-Western attire. They also look good worn over sarees, and these days, bustiers with short, embroidered jackets like these are popular lehenga designs.
Several types of long jackets have different materials and embroideries, such as vests or overlay designs. The latest winter wedding collection features these long velvet vest jackets over anarkalis and lehengas.
Long capes and shrugs overlong. These clear net, georgette, and organza fabrics include striking beads and sequins. Gives the Indian clothing a preppy twist.
Pakistani Salwar: A Trend to Follow
Some of the most popular Indian womens fashions are Pakistani dress patterns, such as the Punjabi suit, which have continued to impact Indian culture ever after the split. Since then, they have remained popular, and this season, we are witnessing yet another notable salwar trend from the Pakistani fashion industry.
The straight salwar, or Pakistani salwar, became popular in the Indian womens fashion industry a few years ago and is now returning. A fresh take on the Punjabi suit style has a salwar gently gathered at the hem, finished with a lace border to complete the ensemble.

St. Amia Uniforms
Introduction + Inspirations:
Uniforms have always been my favorite part of fantasy schools and real life school. I've been wearing uniforms my whole life it's effected my fashion and heavily influenced my love for accessories. So I had a lot of fun designing them.
The uniforms themselves took a lot of brainstorming. Like most things in the story they changed constantly as I continued to iron things out not only around the characters, but also specifically in the worldbuilding.
Tumblr media
Past versions
Tumblr media
The only way to explain what you see here is 10-year old over ambition. When the original plan was to have How To be a Magical Girl a graphic novel my ten year old self had planned for each of my characters to have their own personalized uniform. This uniformed belonged to an early form of one of my characters, it's riddled with star motifs and her main colors pink and yellow. There are also gold star buttons and what I think are patches on her shoulders along with a bow at the back (idk if that's attached to her blazer or her skirt). At the time my only reference for actual school uniforms were the girl's at my older brother's school who wore the common western styled ones of blazers, button downs, and pleated skirts. (I'm thinking one day I should do a full showing of the others or maybe even a redraw of these cause there are a couple more). For obvious reasons these designs were impractical not only for me as an artist to consistently draw in a graphic novel, but even more impractical as the school itself developed into a more concrete idea rather than "Knock-off Winx school"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These iterations of the uniforms consisted of color blocked dresses and silk capes. I also thought about overalls and including pins with the capes. Although years later after watching spy x family you might notice the resemblance to the Eden's school uniforms. At the time of these designs Amia was halfway figured out. I knew I wanted St. Amia to still be an exclusive and strict kind of private school but uniform wise I wasn't completely sure where that put them. Aspects of these versions of the uniforms drew from Beauxbatons academy from the Harry potter series. Its also around the time when I started gearing the story towards Light academia themes. Now, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with these uniforms. I kept the palate and some structural ideas from this, but as I fleshed out the school again the uniforms needed to change too.
Final Uniforms (For the foreseeable future)
Tumblr media
Everything on the drawing is labeled but I'm still going to describe them. In the final version the bell sleeves stay (they just look more pronounced because of how my art style has changed since). The beret stay and so do the bows also stay because I just love bows. There's a new addition of flared pants and a patterned lining along with a practical way to hike them up (see the small snaps on the sides). In a lot of character design videos the thing they press on are "distinct silhouettes". I'm hoping I've accomplished that.
Tumblr media
Anyone who has ever been to a school where uniforms are customary, you'd know that no one wears the same uniform. Lots of dress codes allow thing like school sweaters or outside accessories. I personally enjoy wearing headbands and a sweater vest with mine. I like to have some elements of realism in my story and in my character designs (despite how cartoony my art style is). Girls have the option of skirts (of different lengths) or pants. Also since St. Amia campus is on a mountain (and famously called "The Winter Garden") students also have the choice of knitwear overtop their blouses. Each girl wears a different variation of the St. Amia uniform based on their personal style, lifestyle, and characters.
Alice(left) is a girl known for her bubbly disposition and is from Japan. She prefers to wear a bigger version of the standard sweater vest and a shorter skirt meant to be more reminiscent of her old uniform she would've worn before Amia.
Evie(middle) is a druid and botany student. She spends most of her non-core classes in the school's greenhouse right in the flowerbeds. In addition to the usual gardening aprons the school provides she also buttons up her flared pants and prefers the tighter version of the sweater vest.
Abia(right) comes from a more noble background and prefers a longer skirt and a cardigan since she tends to run hot internally but cold externally (lore thing). As an astrology student she also prefers the cardigans for their pockets so she can stash pencils in there for midday classes.

Joining forces with Aranella, the pair of them set out to aid Evan in making his dream of a kingdom where everyone can live happily ever after a reality.
But the road to peace is a long and treacherous one and there is no promise of success in a world where darkness spreads ever thicker with each passing day. If they are to stand a chance, they must stand together, for king and for country.
(A retelling.)

Snow fell in gentle flurries outside the window of Roland’s office, the first of many falls that would soon coat the land in white. Though it was not yet winter, not truly, the temperature had already begun to plummet like a stone into a pond. No one, not even Auntie Martha, had been ready for it to come so soon. The few tailors and seamstresses in Evermore had to work long hours to prepare enough warm clothing for everyone, and Aranella was one of them. She counted herself lucky, however, that she served a very small clientele.
“How in the world did you two grow so fast?” She grumbled, quickly taking out the hem from the cuff of Evan’s new pants, “I swear, you’re more like weeds than children!”
Across the room, Roland did a terrible job at suppressing a snort. She lifted her eyes and glared good-naturedly at him for a moment, looking away only when he returned his attention to the designs she had shoved onto him. Shaking her head, she looked sideways.
“How does it fit, Tani?” She asked one of the hanging dividers they had connected to the ceiling of Roland’s office. The girl was behind one, Evan behind another on Aranella’s other side. “Do I need to take out another inch?”
“Maybe half an inch?” The girl replied, sticking her head out past the edge of the divider. The off-white of her long blouse was a stark contrast to the deep forest green of her new dress. She scrunched up her nose and tugged at her stomach. “It’s a little tight here when I take a deep breath.”
Blast. Aranella nodded. “Take it off and I’ll fix it.” While Tani darted back behind the divider, Aranella quickly hemmed the new length of Evan’s cuffs and handed them off with a soft, “Here, sweetheart. Try them now.”
“Thank you, Nella,” he said. “I’m sorry for all the trouble.”
“Believe me, you’re less trouble than Leander’s going to be.” With her hands empty for a moment, Aranella rolled her eyes skyward. The man was still wearing thin linen and cotton! It’d be a miracle if he didn’t fall ill by the time she got done with him. “I haven’t even gotten his measurements yet.”
“I think the Boss’ll be more trouble than Leander,” Tani chimed in, passing Aranella her dress. “He hates dressing up. And sleeves.”
“Really?” Roland looked up, holding a black fabric swatch between his fingers. “How did you all manage winter in the canyon, then? Did it just not get cold enough to need long sleeves?”
“Pfft, no, it froze most years. He just stayed reaaaalllly close to a fire most of the time.” Tani huffed a laugh. “Or stuffed so full of stew he’d sleep through the whole winter instead.”
“Doubtlessly he’s thinking about doing so again now,” Aranella stitched a new fold into place, passing it wordlessly back to Tani to try again. “According to the Greenlings, it’s going to be a very cold winter this year.”
Despite the warmth of the crackling hearth, a shudder went through the group. Evermore Castle was gorgeous, and the stone construction would do a wonderful job of remaining cool in the summer, but with the winter to come it would be freezing in the halls as well as outside of them. The sooner they could be prepared, the better.
“I think they’re fixed, Nella,” Evan said, padding out onto the carpet on bare feet. He shook an ankle, just visible beneath the hem of his cuffs. “They’re not dragging anymore.”
“Good, good.” She smiled, then reached out and rubbed the thin material of his tunic between two fingers. She’d need to change this, too… “Now hop up. I need to measure you for a new tunic.”
“Really?” Evan’s ears drooped, the only outward sign of his displeasure at yet more measurements and poking. “Well, I suppose this one is a bit thin…”
And he’d been outgrowing it for months now. Aranella stifled a smile as she pulled her measuring tools from her arms band, unsurprised to find he’d gained another inch in height. She chuckled softly.
“Keep this up and you’ll be taller than your father before you’re my age.”
Evan’s ears perked right up. His eyes flicked to Roland before he could stop himself, a flush of color rising high onto his cheeks as he looked away.
Ah. Of course.
Warmth curling around her heart, Aranella set to work. Midway through measuring the length of Evan’s arms, Tani popped out from behind her divider, woolen skirt swishing around her knees.
“It’s perfect, Miss Nella,” she beamed, “Thank you.”
“Of course,” Aranella returned her smile, looking the girl up and down. She would need better footwear, but for the moment… “You’re about as done as I can get you. Why don’t you go and help Roland? He has no taste in fashion.”
“Hey,” Roland protested, but it was without heat. Tani snickered, bouncing first to the hearth to toss another log into the fire, and then to the side of Roland’s desk. He hadn’t put up much of a fight when they’d commandeered his office a few hours prior, and Aranella could tell he rather enjoyed the company. Keeping an eye on him, she thought, was just an added bonus.
After what had happened last week, he sorely needed time with people who loved him.
“Ooh, what about these?” Tani held up one of the rough sketches Aranella had been given—which she had then shoved onto Roland—and flipped it around. Evan’s ears perked up again.
“Boots? They look nice, but…” he cocked his head, “I don’t think that black really goes with your dress, Tani…you would look better with brown.”
“Not for me, silly,” she giggled, “For you! It’s kind of silly to wear slippers with pants. And…” Everyone glanced out the window, “…in the snow.”
“Yeah.” Roland shook his head, contemplating two designs side by side, “And they’re neutral enough that you could use them for formal wear, too.” He picked up his head enough to meet Evan’s eyes, raising an eyebrow. “You’re almost King of the whole world. Sooner or later you’re going to need something fancy.”
Evan hissed. Aranella swallowed back a very ill-timed laugh and sat back on her heels.
“He has a point, Evan,” she said, smiling when he turned a betrayed look on her instead, “I imagine we’ll be throwing plenty of balls and galas soon enough. We could all use some formal wear.” She turned her head enough to eye Roland sidelong. What to do about him, then? She could just remake her old dress, but Roland? Gods, getting him anything fancy would be a struggle.
“All of us?” Evan asked, lowering his arms. “Even Leander?”
“Even Leander.” Aranella nodded. “Though he’s going to need a miracle before I’m done with him.”
“Where is Leander, anyway?” Tani asked, hopping up to sit on Roland’s desk. She shuffled through the designs and added, “He was running around like a Hedgehound yesterday, but I haven’t seen him since breakfast today.”
“He said he was going to Neo Hydropolis,” Roland said, “Something about needing to talk to Queen Nerea about something. He should be back by dinner.”
Evan hummed quietly. “I wonder what’s bothering him…it isn’t like Leander to be quite so flustered. I hope everything’s alright.”
“I’m certain he’s fine,” Aranella soothed, gathering her supplies. She was going to have to go hunt Batu down if she wanted any chance of getting his measurements before the end of the year. Maybe it would be best to do Roland next? He could use a new coat… “He would say something if he was not.”
“That’s true,” Evan said. One ear flicked to the door; he raised his head a second before someone knocked. When Roland called out for them to come in, Bracken poked her head into the door.
“Roland, do have a minute? I need to run…something…past you…”
Bracken trailed off, blinking at the sight of the usually tidy office turned nearly inside out. She took in the makeshift dressing rooms, Aranella’s scattered supplies, and the designs spread across Roland’s desk. Her bare shoulders were pale and lined with chill-bumps, a sight that had Aranella getting to her feet.
Forget doing Roland next, she was going to need to stage an intervention for Bracken!
As if catching the thought, Bracken shivered. “But I can see you’re busy,” She said quickly, stepping back as Aranella stepped forward. Behind her, Tani and Evan fell into giggles. “I’ll just—I’ll just come back later!”
“Oh, no!” Aranella pounced, grabbing the other woman by the arm, “You’re going nowhere until I’m done with you!”
With a yelp, Bracken was pulled into the room. The door slipped from her fingers and, with a resounding bang, slammed shut.
