Unless he volunteered for whatever they were in the process of doing to Gary. Then again, the wolves didn’t seem like ones to do their experiments on themselves.

She frowned, “They… Appear to have another accomplice with them too… I only saw them briefly, though…”

She paused as Fang made the call, listening to the conversation. When the subject of Opal came up, the woman grimaced slightly.

“When we left to rescue Gary, she and Star were fine… But, uh. When we came back they were… Kinda… Huddled in the corner of Breakers room, all stained with ink and… As a bird and a key. Took me a while to figure out it was them in the first place.”

“Two Calebs. Fan-fucking-tastic,” Fang sighed. “And of course Mother’s out of commission. Typical.”

“We don’t necessarily need Opal,” Jacinta said. “Just Starlight. They can do the same as Sora, only I’ll wager with less of the strain since Gary and Avocato are close.”

“So we just need Gary to hold Starlight, and follow them to Avocato? That sounds doable!” Fox said, ever the optimist.

“Dooble!” the baby said, raising her hand.

Fox’s eyes sparkled. “So precious...”

“You never said where it is you narrowed it down to,” Fang said.

“Right. That would be North Carolina,” Jacinta said. “Godspeed or whatever. I gotta get back to cleaning the house now. Let me know how it goes.”

The call ended. Fang exchanged a glance with Sheryl. 

"I suppose we wait until Gary is re-armed," then," he said.
