Lowkey insane because Shadow locked Mephiles in the Scepter of Darkness and Mephiles swore revenge

And then he sat in the object for years stewing in it

And when he came out and absorbed Shadow's shadow he went off about how ironic this all is, and started talking about how he was gonna send Shadow to oblivion...

And then like 5 minutes later after meeting Shadow properly he's like "Never mind! I love him actually. I need him. I need him bad. I will do anything to convince him to join me and rule the world with me." He wants Shadow so bad it makes him look stupid. After 100 times of saying he will never join Mephiles, even if the humans he's protecting will end up destroying him, Mephiles was still like "Last chance! Join me and we can rule together and destroy together and no one can chain you down!"

But Shadow really isn't innocent in this either! Because he seems pretty uncomfortable with Mephiles when they meet, but then he just becomes curious about him. So curious in fact that he strands himself in the future without any chaos emeralds or knowledge that he can return, JUST so he can learn what Mephiles's deal is

Like Mephiles liked Shadow so much it just completely threw years of revenge thirsting in the trash, and Shadow was so interested in Mephiles it honestly kind of overrode reason in him for a bit

The world really is lucky that Shadow the Hedgehog decided who he is during StH 2005 and solidified that in StH 2006 and that Mephiles is the type to put his deep seated desires before any terrifically compelling relationship because otherwise the two would be together in some form and they'd be everyone's problem
