Somebody To Love - Part 2
Part 1 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 AO3
Like most things in life, trying to make something appear sexy on camera was decidedly very unsexy in practice. Case in point, the repeated motions of trying to look sultry and brooding and sexy in front of a camera and crew that just made him feel goofy.
Steve slapped Eddie’s hand away from his face.
“Stop fiddling with it.”
“It’s irritating!”
“Because you won’t let it dry!”
Eddie scoffed and rolled his eyes, continuing to pace up and down the makeup room.
It had been weeks since that hookup with Julian and their tour had finally ended. Eddie had tried to see what Julian had seen, what he'd seen the following morning, he really had tried but he could never find it. Steve looked at him like he’d always looked at him.
He still bitched Eddie out whenever he got too fucked up, he still snatched up his drugs when he thought he was getting in too deep and flushed them down the toilet like an asshole and still dragged him out of bed, unceremoniously dumped him into a hotel shower and hosed him down without mercy whenever he needed sobering up to appear in public.
Because that was Steve’s job. And not only was it is job, Steve was a good friend. A great friend even. To the point that they often forgot they had an employer/employee relationship. Steve could quit tomorrow and Eddie was pretty sure they’d still be hanging out on the weekends or travelling back to Indiana in the summer for the Hoppers-Byers barbecues. Steve would still call to check in on Wayne whenever Eddie was too busy or fucked up to get the chance.
Because he was a good friend. One of his closest confidants. Because yeah, Steve did love him as a friend. And Eddie loved Steve as a friend.
Eddie brought his hand up to his face again, already forgetting he wasn’t supposed to touch which only led to another sharp slap. There was fake blood trickling out of his mouth and smeared across his jaw but it was fucking tickly and irritating the ever loving shit out of him, only adding to his heightened anxiety.
They still had a whole day of shooting left to do but they’d gotten most of the fully clothed dark and brooding closeup B-roll of the band done. Draped over thrones or hiding in the shadows of alleyways with a fog machine in the corner or playing their various instruments in the middle of a graveyard that smelled like styrofoam and the kind of dust that always clung to studio lights.
They were shooting the music video for their newest single ‘Sucker’, a song about sucking blood which was an extremely thinly veiled metaphor for going down and the latest in a long list of filthy songs he and the boys had penned over the years.
The concept for the music video was a whole Victorian gothic vampire blood drinking thing where each of the boys had a ‘victim’ to paw at and mouth all over and that was fine, really. They’d met their extras and the three girls that were acting against Jeff, Grant and Gareth were sweet but very professional in what they were doing which helped put the boys at ease. Because no matter how big and famous they got they were all still smalltown awkward nerds at heart. The guy they’d brought in for Eddie was slightly less professional but very, very good at acting the part of a vulnerable subby boy for Eddie’s vampire persona to suck dry.
And it hadn’t hurt that he’d slipped Eddie his number for a hookup later that night, so there was that to look forward to.
But the main centrepiece for the music video was the one that was giving him anxiety. He and the boys would share a ‘victim’ all at the same time and it was going to be very sexual and very intense. And because two out of the four members of Corroded Coffin liked women exclusively and the other two didn’t not like women, their shared victim would be a woman.
But the issue for Eddie was, they hadn’t met her. Usually with something like this, Eddie and the boys liked to meet up with the female model or actress a few days ahead of time just to make sure everyone was comfortable, there was no pressure, find out if there was anything that she wanted them to avoid doing and figure out some kind of tap out system if it was a live performance.
But their tour bus had been delayed a couple of days and they’d only barely managed to crash land back in LA with enough time to pee before they had to go shoot, let alone check in like they wanted to.
At least tonight Eddie would be able to sleep in his own bed again for the first time in months. And if the night worked out like he was hoping it would, he’d call that guy and he’d have his bed filled for once more.
“Eds, if you try to touch your face again, you won’t get your surprise.” Steve had thrown himself down on the couch behind the makeup chair, stretched out and not even looking up at him, legs crossed at the knee, one arm thrown over the back, lazily scrolling through his phone, white shirt rolled up to the elbows and the first few buttons undone.
So like…
They may not be in love but Eddie had eyes. And Steve was a snack and a half at the worst of times so now…
Wait.
“Surprise? You have a surprise for me, love?” Eddie flapped his hands in Steve’s direction who looked as stoic and bored as he had a few seconds ago, only betrayed by the slightest curl at the corner of his mouth. “What is it? What is it?! Gimme, gimme, gimme!”
Eddie’s own black and billowing shirt that hung loosely open the whole way down, tucked into a pair of tight leather pants fluttered around him as he continued to pester Steve, the tiny clink, clink of his low hanging chains and rings only adding to the cacophony of energy building up in him.
Until a voice sounded from outside the door and Eddie froze.
“I get good grades!”
Eddie could feel his mouth drop open as Steve’s smile grew wider.
“I go to church!” The tinkling voice continued, getting closer.
“No…” Eddie whispered at him in complete disbelief.
“I’m a cheerleader!” There, standing in the doorway, looking like the picture of Victorian innocence in a strategically low cut, sheer and flowing white sleeping gown with the biggest smile on her face was Chrissy Cunningham.
“No way!” Eddie darted forward, scooping her up into his arms and swinging her around the tiny little makeup room while she squeezed him tight, giggling into his neck. “You’re our victim?!”
“I’m your victim!” She responded, almost radiating brightness throughout the room. He hadn’t seen her since they took off on tour and she was always one of the people he missed the most. His god-damn bright bubblegum pink platonic soulmate and model extraordinaire with the acting chops to make it to the top if she ever decided to pursue it.
“How?!” He set her back down on her feet before taking her hand and twirling her, getting a good look at her costume. “God, you look so corruptible.”
“I know, right?” She batted her big eyelashes up at him. “But the girl who was supposed to play the part had to drop out so we shuffled some things around.” Chrissy gestured over at Steve whose smile had softened out into something sweeter.
“You knew about this?!” Eddie pointed an accusing black tipped finger at him. Steve just rolled his eyes and pushed himself to his feet.
“Of course I knew about this. I know everything. This is your surprise, dumbass.” He flicked Eddie on the ear as he passed by. “I’m gonna go get the boys!” The next second he had disappeared out the door.
Eddie scowled at the empty doorway before turning his attention back to Chrissy, pulling her down with him into Steve’s vacated spot on the couch.
“So tell me, how was the tour this time around?”
“Chris, you know how the tour was. I called you all the time.”
"No, Twinkie." Chrissy scoffed and shoved at his shoulder. “Steve called me all the time. You called me whenever you were lucid enough to use your phone or you didn’t have a dick in your mouth.”
“I still called, didn't I?!” Eddie pouted, trying to give her the biggest doe eyes he could manage. He was only able to hold it for a few seconds before another thought came to his scattered mind. “Actually there is something I wanted to talk to you about. One of the guys I hooked up with a few weeks back said something.”
“Do I have to fight him?”
Eddie smiled and patted her head, careful not to damage the bouncy blonde ‘slept in’ curly updo she’d been put in. “No babe. Nothing like that. He mentioned something about Steve.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. He said that Steve was in love with me.” He shot her a bewildered look, as if to say ‘can you believe that?’ but Chrissy barely reacted.
She just continued to watch him carefully.
Which, oh Jesus, might be the most terrifying thing to ever happen to him in his life because if Chrissy was unsurprised… so unsurprised that she didn’t even move… had she seen it too?
“What-”
“Chrissy!” Jeff, Gareth and Grant burst into the room and in much the same way that Eddie had, scooped her up and swung her around with delight. The three of them had clearly been just as anxious about the coming scene as he had and were now extremely relieved to be doing it with someone they knew.
In amongst the whirlwind of greetings they were called back out to start filming again and the next time Eddie had a chance to talk to her was on set with his arms around her, pulled flush against his chest, Gareth pressed against her back with his head bent to one side of her neck and Jeff and Grant looming over either side of her with her wrists at their mouths before action was called, so… not exactly a place for private conversation.
Eddie had to wonder if Steve had spoken to the director so he knew what to expect because by the time the five of them had broken down into giggles for the fourth time in a row, they guy wasn’t looking nearly as irritated as he should have been.
It was a mix of all five of them being together again that made them all feel a little giddy and the fact that a very sexually charged scene was always so unsexy when it was being filmed.
And, okay, maybe the last one was Eddie’s fault because he had to hold nasty tasting fake blood in his mouth before bringing his lips down to Chrissy’s neck, allowing it to leak out over her skin making it look like he was biting her and maybe a really badly timed giggle had caused it to spray everywhere, spattering dark red over everyone and causing the five of them to almost collapse into each other with laughter.
Once they had all managed to reign themselves in for another shot the director was watching them with his arms crossed and a contemplative look on his face.
“I’m going to be honest, I should be mad.”
“But?” Gareth asked.
“But Mr. Harrington has pointed out if we cut that shot just before it’s obvious you’re laughing, it looks like you hit an artery. There’s no way that would get past the censors for TV so he’s suggested a R-rated gore heavy version of the music video? Maybe released exclusively online?”
The five of them looked at each other for barely a second before they were all enthusiastically agreeing and volleying ideas for just how gore heavy they could go.
The director clapped his hands. “Alright! We can discuss ideas later, but we really need to get this shot done, so back on your marks and Eddie?” he pointed at him. Eddie had already had more of that fake blood tipped into his mouth (less this time, thank god, considering Chrissy was practically covered in it already) so he could only respond with a ‘mm?’
“You’re going for sultry. Give the camera a good eye-fucking this time around please?”
Eddie shot him a dorky thumbs up before sliding his arms back around Chrissy’s waist and bringing one hand up to rest in the blonde curls at the back of her head. As the director called ‘Action!’ their song was blasted through the speakers in the studio and he lowered his head.
Just as he mimed biting into Chrissy’s skin he lifted his eyes up, trying to keep his gaze as dark and wanton as possible, but just behind the camera stood Steve, looking right at him. As their eyes met, he visibly swallowed, his cheeks went pink and he bit down on his lip hard before a blank mask of nothingness slid over his face and all at once Eddie was unmoored.
Because he recognised that face. Because he knew Steve inside and out. Or up until that very moment, he thought he did.
Sure, it was the face Steve used in contract negotiations on Eddie’s behalf with silver spoon label executives he knew how to pander to. But it was also the face that was used when Steve wanted to keep his real feelings locked away.
The face Eddie realised, with sudden clarity, he’d been seeing on and off for years.
Whenever Steve would have to hold his hair back over a toilet bowl or drag him by the arm out of whatever group sex situation he’d gotten himself involved in. Whenever Steve would watch from backstage, his eyes only ever following Eddie around, whenever they would invariably end up sitting closer and closer during movie nights on the couch, whenever Eddie had chosen over and over and over again to parade his choices of flings and partners in front of Steve, whenever Eddie had thrown ‘baby’ and ‘sweetheart’ and ‘love’ at him, like they meant nothing. Like they couldn’t cause damage.
But they didn’t mean nothing, had they ever meant nothing?
Had they always meant everything to him?
“Cut! Fantastic!” The director cried.

@lifeisnotsobadonceyoustopcaring, @child-of-cthulhu, @sweetwaterangel, @anaibis
Chrissy's lines as she comes through the door are from But I'm A Cheerleader! An iconic lesbian comedy about a high-school cheerleader who's conservative parents send her to conversion therapy when they suspect she's a lesbian which... 👀
It's a good watch but even though it's a comedy, it's still about a heavy subject matter so just proceed with caution and keep yourselves safe. 🖤

A for real review.
I did get that budget book and it's nice enough for my needs.
This is about the mini washer that came in the same order, though.
Tumblr media
They were on sale for $20, but I think I got a cheap knockoff of what's actually pictured.
Affiliate link: https://amzn.to/4giL9v9
And it is not inexpensive, it's cheap. There's a difference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's lots of flash, the hoses are super thin and fragile, they also came already dented...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only way to stop the water from draining out is to clip the drain hose up. The clip, the bracket, and the hose are all super cheap and flimsy. Some of the reviewers said their drain hose developed holes at the bottom rendering the whole device useless because there's no way to make it hold water at that point.
I didn't even use the feed hose, I just filled it from the top and ran the whole thing IN the sink on a grate so it could drain without getting the power plug wet.
I had the same issue many had with the drying/spin basket in that it would just pop right off the bracket in the bottom, so I wrung the items out by hand instead of using the spin basket.
I also had to finish the rinse by hand because I had used a little too much soap. I think I put 3 or 4 drops, or a 1/4tsp of soap and needed less.
It sounds horrible and I expect the little motor to burn out pretty quickly.
It would rock less if it were on a flat, stable surface and does come with suction cup feet to help it stay level. They weren't engaged because I was using it on that grate.
Tumblr media
The biggest, scariest problem is the plug. The prongs are too long so it can't actually sit flush in the outlet, and it's not grounded, which is concerning with something that uses water.
Anyway, I'd bought this to try using with doll clothes because I thrift stuff all the time and it takes me a while to wash the clothes. The washer is a little too violent for doll clothes because it did cause the Velcro-like strips to open and then they snagged themselves and other garments in the washer. I did think ahead and tried it with clothes that were already in poor condition so I didn't ruin anything nice. Less worn closure tape might stay closed better.
I do like that I can leave the top open and look in while it washes, but that's only because there are no sensors of any type in the machine. There's only go and not go on the button panel on the front, and you can choose 1, 5, or 10 minutes of go.
It... Works. It works ok. It did work to agitate the items I washed (some doll clothes and a couple cleaning cloths), used less water than I usually use to hand wash doll clothes (I usually soak them in a big bin for a while), and, I mean... It works???
I think it would be fine for washing like, one day of underwear or some baby clothes maybe. It does say not to try towels or sheets because it's very small. It does NOT hold 9 liters. It holds maybe 6 but I wouldn't put more than a half to a gallon in there.
It's cheap AF and will likely stop working sooner rather than later. The motor struggled. It's best use would be for soaking things with the benefit of having a drain hose.

Thor follows Sonny in. The coppery scent of his blood lingers in your nose. You make yourself stand up as the blur at the edge of your vision recedes.
"Are you okay?" You squeak.
"Ah, so sweet, you don't need to worry, all fixed up," he wiggles his bandages finger at you, "how about you, you alright?"
"Yeah," you shudder, "good."
You push away the memories. You're safe here. No one knows you. No one you know would ever find you here.
Sonny sighs heavily and picks up his knife, going back to his chopping. Thor pushes back the loose strands of his hair, "hate to bother again but I'm still down a partner and well…" he looks at his hand, "a bit scratched up."
"Oh, uh," you look over at Sonny, then the sink. The dishes are done for now.
"Go on, just keep him away from anything sharp," Sonny scoffs.
"Okay," you agree.
You don't really want to be behind the bar again but you feel bad enough to do it. Thor won't be able to do everything alone. Not with his injury.
"I'll show you how to muddle," Thor offers, "I'll need you to do it for me, and I can walk you through a few simple mixes before we open."
"I… I'll try," you follow him to the door.
"You'll do just fine," he assures you, "I know it."
🍹
“Another spicy margherita,” Thor says as he nears you.
He takes a glass and a lime wedge, rubbing it over the brim before ringing it with salt. You take some jalapeno and set to muddling, focusing on your singular task. You add it to the mixer as he measures in tequila and a few other ingredients you can’t keep track of. He finishes as you set aside the mixing glass and take the next order; easy, beer.
You fill two pints from the taps. That was part of your brief lesson before opening. Along with a simple martini, a gimlet, a vodka tonic, and a few others with only a few ingredients. Thor was nice enough to give your cheat sheet on the back counter but the rush was so much, you were scrambling to keep up.
You take the money and tap the order into the till. You hand the change back and get no tip. You don’t care. You’re just trying to get through the night. The chaos makes you miss the tedium of your cleaning duties.
You knock a hose loose and spray yourself with some soda, quickly fixing the tap as you sputter and spin around, lost in the hectic furor of the thirsty patrons. Thor startles you as he presses a large hand against your back, almost flush to your side as he steadies you.
“Take a breath,” he gristles before slipping away, once more stepping up to take an order. He’s so confident it makes you feel even more out of place.
You watch him lean over to hear the girl yelling out what she wants. As he does, she reaches over to touch his arm, a smirk as she does. He doesn’t acknowledge the gesture as he pulls back to mix cranberry juice, lime juice, and vodka.
“Triple sec,” he calls over his shoulder, “please.”
He’s certain to add the last word even amidst the rush. You search the shelf and grab the tall bottle. You set it beside his station and he thanks you quickly before finishing off the drink, shaking and pouring before trading it for the swipe of a card.
Another order. This time he asks for anise liquer. You nod and go back to the shelf. You can’t find anything like that and shrug helplessly.
“I don’t see it–”
He backs away from the counter and blows a strand of hair from his lips. You wince as the red in his cheeks gives him a slightly agitated edge. You clasp your hands together.
“Not to worry, it is on the top,” he pats your arm and squeezes by, “sugar cubes are under.” He points as he sidles along, “you’ll need one.”
You let him past, bodies brushing warmly in the cramped space. You spin and squat to look in the cupboard. You find the container of sugar cubes and put them on the counter. He comes back with the liquer and pulls out a mixing glass.
“Muddle it with a little of this,” he taps the bottle.
You once more go about the work, it keeps you from thinking about the crowd watching and waiting just on the other side of the bar. You don’t know how he does this every night. You’re about ready to hyperventilate.
“Hey, gimme a goddamn beer!” A voice hollers, one that makes your blood run cold.
Thor ignores the shout and finishes the transaction. He growls as the boisterous demand repeats and he looks up as you cower and clap your hands together, searching for whoever it is shouting at you. You know that voice but it can’t be him. It just can’t be!
“Calm down,” Thor booms as he moves in front of you, “you can wait your turn or I can show you out.”
The impatient patron chortles but doesn’t yell again. Thor continues on as you watch his back. You don’t move, can’t as you try to shake off your fright. You come forward to help and see the man who was in dire need of a pint. No, it’s not him, just your imagination.
“Eh, you need a break, you go back in the kitchen,” Thor suggests, “I can manage a couple minutes on my own. Hell, I should drag Loki down to deal with the mess he’s made.”
“N-no, I’m okay,” you tremble as you pull your hands apart, “I can do it…”
“And you’re doing very well,” he affirms.
He reaches and squeezes your hand. His rough skin sends a shiver through you, the firm grasp frightening you, but you don’t draw away. He slowly lets you go pats your shoulder, his hand crawling over to your back and trailing down.
“I’m lucky to have you by my side, fawn.”

omg
Another chaotic day, but chaotic in a different way.
She added even more tasks to my morning which I don't appreciate. I already struggle to get anything done.
Right when I discovered that the reason the floor in the cooler has been sticky is because someone spilled a whole gallon of milk in there and never told anyone, which of course I was told to clean up because I work there, and it was horrible because it already was stinky and clumpy, and I only had like 20 minutes left before it was time to go, a customer dropped a Monster and it exploded covering two whole panels of products.
The milk spill was in THE most inconvenient place in that furniture will have to be moved, the 20 foot floor mat will have to be pulled out and hosed down, then let to dry, and I physically just fucking can't especially in only a half an hour.
And the Monster Mangler was so sorry. He was like "Um..... I'll pay for that uh..." and I was like "Nah, man, that sort of thing happens." He didn't break anything, he just made everything sticky.
Then she gave me Tasks and I tried to find the sausage patties, looked right at the box, and didn't see it because it was well past Eat Time but I didn't get eat time because I was only scheduled 5 hours today, and both my blood sugar and pressure were dropping and I saw something entirely different in that box. I saw bread rolls.
I'm actually still not convinced that box isn't full of bread rolls.
So I don't know.
And like... The whole cooler needs to be dumped out and hosed down. It's disgusting in there. There's stinky milk, there's mold, there's soda spilled, there's Monster...
And she's like Ok do Task when I had like 10 minutes left which is when I should be counting my drawer and doing my dishes, and Task, which I guess I'm the official sandwich maker now and I do not like that I hate making food and it's such a pain because I have to take the gloves on and off to ring up customers and I get stuck in the gloves because my hands sweat.
I think I need to take some simple cotton gloves to wear under the work gloves maybe. I do have a bunch of those somewhere.
And it's just the same shit you can buy at Walmart and put together yourself and you're just paying like 400%. Because I made it.
Like....
You get one sub roll, 3 thin slices of cheap turkey sandwich meat, and 2 slices of even cheaper American cheese for $5.
The "Cold Cut Sub" is literally a sub roll, 2 slices of Oscar Mayer Bologna, and 2 slices of American cheese.
...
And I just.... I hate making this shit.
But that's apparently my job, now, even though I didn't retake the food handler's course and didn't apply for sandwich lady.
It was already half an hour past when I was supposed to leave, and I still had to tally my drawer, which I couldn't because I couldn't count anymore, because the sugar.
And I also don't get to pee which is bad because of my kidneys. Which is isn't that I'm not allowed to go pee it's just that I don't get a chance. I'm the only one on the floor. So it'd been from about 5:30 since That Guy was able to drive me to work this morning, until like.... noon, until I got to pee and that didn't smell great which is a bad sign. I have to monitor the smell of my pee for kidney infection smells.
I'm chugging water rn to flush everything out.
And it EXTRA sucks because I wanted to go to town this weekend to go to Goodwill and get a keychain bracelet thing or a lanyard for the store key so I can better keep track of it until I give it back to Manager when she gets back from her trip week after next, but I can't do that because That Guy took the car for the weekend. He'll be home Sunday.
So.
I can't do that until Sunday evening or Monday after work at least.
I have fewer hours next week. I guess in case no one else is in the store to give me a chance to go eat at lunch time. Manager said her sister will try to be there when I get there in the morning but there's no guarantee, and the way she's setting things up it sounds like she half expects her sister to not show up at all. Their dad, the owner, tends to show up around my lunch time but doesn't get on the floor. He does admin stuff in the office while he has his breakfast.
Multiple of my fingernails split so I have to cut them all off again.
I'm so.
I'm
tired

Twenty Minutes Before the End of the World
So no shit, there we were: comfortably into Netflix & chill on December 30, Saturday evening just before New Year's Day. The best moment for shit to start acting up: lo and behold, it was 9:40pm when I noticed that the flush hose in my bathroom was menacingly leaking. Menacingly, as in "I'm just getting started."
It's twenty minutes before the end of the world year, because once the stores are closed, they'll stay closed for the next two days, and the water's dripping from an ancient flush hose that was last replaced some twenty years ago. That bitch. So, no time to waste: we have to dress up and get to the nearest hardware store, just one fucking bus stop away, to get a replacement.
The metro will arrive in 5 minutes. The bus in 10. Fuck it, we're walking. And on the way, we ended up having some ridiculous conversations like:
@jurian-is-cinnamon-roll: Uh huh, that’s me. I bring bad luck to people. Me: Nah, I have enough of my own.
Because yeah, just when things start going for me, I have to end up in a fuck-up of some sort. But, at least, we came to the conclusion that anything can be a romantic walk with the right attitude, and so we make it to the store five minutes before closing.
We get to the plumbing aisle and of course I can't find the right kind of hose, which would be a foot-long, 3/8" nut to 1/2" nut fitting, but luckily, there's still a helpful employee nearby, so with the correct part, I run to the self-checkout.
The barcode's fucked. Literally nonexistent. I run back to the plumbing aisle and find a replacement with a legible label. With that checked out, we walk out of the store at closing time.
Jesus fucking Christ.
Of course it turned out that the threading on the flush tank valve was fucked anyway, but with the proper amount of thread I managed to keep everything together.

Okay so, clogs, blocked drains and slow drains can be a variety of things. I'll start by explaining that the plumber is most likely going to a cleanout. Cleanouts are caps in the ground or wall that allow access to the sewer line in the most non invasive method possible, usually plastic but sometimes metal. And they're likely not draining out the pipe but using either a bladder¹ or a drain cleaning machine² to clear the clog. This explains why your plunger wouldn't do much. A plunger acts by creating a seal above the clog and using the act of plunging to force pressure onto it. Plungers are only useful if a clog is still within a singular fixture. If the plumber has to clear it from the cleanout, the clog is beyond the toilet so all that's happening when you plunge it is forcing water up into other drain lines that are also clogged.
Well why all the secrecy? Judging by the fact that it's your work building, the plumber may be under strict instruction to not speak to you and to definitely not to discuss the plumbing with you. You are not their customer, the owner of the building/property manager is. There may be many reasons for this, but the most common is that all kinds of drama happen in a tenant/landlord situation around the plumbing and it can all comes down to my invoice.
My invoices specifically are written to include conditions on arrival, what steps I took to rectify, any findings I've made and future recommendations if needed. Those last two parts are where the friction happens. Say I pull back a load of flushable wipes³ or tampons in the drain, that goes into my invoice and sometimes the landlord will charge the tenant for the plumbing service.⁴ And sometimes people get big mad when you imply their responsibility for major maintenance.
Now say I don't pull anything back but I recommend a camera inspection to find out what exactly is going on, or imagine if I recommend stripping out all the cast iron and replacing it, which can run upwards of $8k-$20k just for a residential property. If I mention that to the tenant, now they're using my words to argue that the plumbing is substandard and they're not paying rent until it's fixed.⁵ This is a fight that I didn't ask to be in the middle of, and have no interest in battling. So if the person paying for the invoices says don't talk to anyone there? I don't talk to them. It's just not worth the hassle.
So it's possible that the sewer line at your work is old and degrading, and the owner has little interest in forking over several tens of thousands of dollars to dig it up and redo it. Or its possible one of your coworkers doesn't believe in putting sanitary items in the trash. Unfortunately there is little that you can do in this situation except wait for the plumber :(
1 A bladder is also known as a blow bag, which looks like a balloon on the end of a hose that fills up to create a seal within the pipe and blow water out towards the clog to force out the obstruction. It should only be used in specific circumstances
2 A drain cleaning machine can be either a continuous cable machine or a jetter. The machine uses a large twisted cable in a spinning drum that feeds into the line and uses torque to manually break through the clog. A jetter uses high water pressures to scour the inside of the line and clean it. Which is used can depend on access, location, clog type and details of the drain line
3 A misnomer, no wipes are truly flushable. They do not break down as toilet paper does. DO NOT FLUSH ANY WIPES DOWN THE TOILET
4 The legality of this practice may vary. I am neither a landlord nor a lawyer
5 Do not do this without seeking legal counsel. I have never heard of it working and from what I understand it is fact specific. One plumber's recommendation for a repipe does not declare your space uninhabitable

The tankless water heater descaling maintenance procedure was daunting at first glance but wasn’t too bad when I got started. The first step was cleaning the air filter which required removing the cover. The descaling required shutting off the cold water intake feed and hot water exit feed in order to isolate the system, then hooking a small recirculating pump and a bucket of 3 gallons of white vinegar to special hose bibs designed just for this purpose. After letting the vinegar circulate for an hour, the system is flushed for 5 minutes before moving on to the next water heater. After I was done we had to run the hot water for a few minutes to clear the air bubbles but I shouldn’t have to do this for another year.

Friday 19th May
First things first.
We discovered a problem with the heads (the loo) yesterday evening. Although the system was making all the right noises, nothing was being carried away.
We had this before, in 2017. The pipe from the pan to the holding tank gets blocked with crystals. The system sucks in sea water for the flush and that reacts with ureic acid to form crystals. The way we cleared it last time was to blast it through with the high pressure dinghy pump.
Lots of things needed to be taken apart and set up.
Tumblr media
Eventually we were all ready. Carol is sitting on the steps manning the pump switch, I am sitting in the heads with a bucket and the end of the pipe. We close the door as best we can. I’m apprehensive. Last time, the force of the pump blasted the contents of the pipe so forcefully into the bucket that I got covered.
A quick burst on the pump from Carol, nothing. A longer burst, I’m cringing now. Longer….BANG. The joint in the pump hose blew apart! Hmm 🤔, this is a toughie! Carol suggested we try blasting the pipe from the other direction. Good call. It took 5 mins to set it up and we had another go….. A quick burst, nothing. A longer burst and THWACK, the blockage rammed into the bottom of the bucket. Fortunately I had put a load of paper in the bottom of the bucket to soften the impact and I remained dry.
We filled the pipe with boiling water and blew it back out again.
Tumblr media
Hopefully that’ll do it for the next few years.
So we’re a bit late out of the blocks this morning. We walked to meet Simon & Trish in Port Navalo. On the way we saw this caterpillar nest, don’t touch!
Tumblr media
As we approached Port Navalo beach, we noticed how many boats there were. There appeared to be some sort of gig festival going on. We even saw one with a Devon flag. It was on a replica of an old Cornish lifeboat now based in Appledor.

EPDM Hoses: The Heat-Resistant Tubing for Hot Water Applications
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) hoses have become a popular choice for hot water applications in recent years. As a versatile synthetic rubber material, EPDM offers superior heat resistance, flexibility, and durability compared to traditional rubber hoses.
Tumblr media
In this article, we’ll explore the key benefits of using EPDM hot water hoses, their typical applications, what to look for when selecting one, and proper care and maintenance tips. Whether you need a hose for a dishwasher, washing machine, or just to conveniently transport hot water, read on to learn why EPDM is an ideal tubing material.
For More Information Please visit, epdm hot water hose
Key Benefits of EPDM Hot Water Hoses
Temperature resistance – EPDM rubber maintains its strength and flexibility in continuous temperatures up to 150°C and is safe for intermittent use up to 230°C. This makes it well-suited for hot water lines.
Chemical resistance – EPDM stands up well to water, detergents, oil, and other common chemicals. It won’t degrade or leach contaminants into the water flow.
Durability – Properly maintained EPDM hoses can last for many years. The material is ozone, weather, and abrasion resistant. It also has excellent tensile strength.
Flexibility – EPDM tubing remains pliable and kink-resistant even when subjected to repeated bending. This allows it to move freely without restricting water flow.
Cost-effective – EPDM is an affordable hose material that provides exceptional performance per dollar compared to other rubber, plastic, or metal options.
Typical Applications
Dishwasher supply lines – EPDM is perfect for the high heat sanitizing cycles dishwashers run. Flexible EPDM tubing won’t crack under the strain of repeated movements either.
Washing machine hoses – For hot water inlet lines that must withstand high pressures and temperatures over years of use.
Hot water transport – Durable EPDM hoses allow safe, convenient transport of hot water for cleaning, outside showers, etc.
Radiant heating systems – Flexible EPDM tubing can be bent around tight spaces to run in-floor home heating systems.
Solar water systems – High heat resistance makes EPDM ideal for solar water heating system transport lines.
Hose Selection Considerations
When selecting an EPDM hot water hose, key factors to consider include:
Temperature rating – Hoses rated for 190°F+ are best for typical residential hot water heating systems. Industrial applications may require 500°F+ rated EPDM.
Hose diameter – Standard sizes include 1⁄2”, 5⁄8”, and 3⁄4” for home use. Larger diameters provide increased water volume.
Pressure rating – Look for at least 100 PSI working pressure and a high burst pressure. industrial uses may require 500+ PSI rated hoses.
End fittings – Brass and stainless steel fittings offer maximum durability and temperature resistance. Plastic fittings can degrade over time.
Approvals – Look for EPDM hoses certified lead-free and drinking water safe by NSF, WRAS, or other standards organizations.
Proper Care and Maintenance
With proper care, EPDM hot water hoses can last 5-10 years or longer:
Inspect regularly – Check for damage, leaks, kinks, or corrosion. Replace suspect hoses.
Avoid overheating – Don’t exceed the hose’s rated working temperature.
Protect from UV light – Sunlight can degrade EPDM over time. Use UV-resistant covers outdoors.
Clean as needed – Flush out mineral deposits with vinegar. Don’t use solvents on EPDM.
Avoid kinks – EPDM is flexible but kinking can restrict water flow. Install with gentle bends.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Thanks to its durable, flexible, heat-resistant design, EPDM is the ideal tubing material for hot water applications ranging from dishwashers to radiant floor heating. Following the selection and care tips above will help ensure you choose the right EPDM hose and get the most service life out of it. Investing in a quality EPDM hot water hose will provide reliable performance for years to come.

2025 Plumbing Tips: Keep Your Home’s Water Systems Running Smoothly All Year
Tumblr media
As we embrace 2025, maintaining your home’s plumbing system is more important than ever. With advanced technology and eco-friendly practices becoming the norm, keeping your water systems efficient and hassle-free requires a blend of traditional know-how and modern solutions. At DTEC Mechanical, we’ve compiled essential plumbing tips to ensure your home runs smoothly all year long.
1. Inspect and Maintain Regularly
Routine inspections can catch small issues before they turn into costly repairs. Check for leaks under sinks, around appliances, and near outdoor faucets. Listen for unusual noises in your pipes and ensure your water heater is functioning efficiently. Scheduling annual professional inspections is a smart move to keep your plumbing in top condition.
2. Embrace Smart Plumbing Technology
Smart home technology isn’t just for your lights and security systems. Devices like smart water leak detectors, automated shut-off valves, and Wi-Fi-enabled water heaters can alert you to potential issues and help you conserve water. These tools can also reduce your utility bills while protecting your home from water damage.
3. Winter-Proof Your Plumbing
Cold temperatures can wreak havoc on your pipes. To prevent freezing, insulate exposed pipes, disconnect outdoor hoses, and keep a trickle of water running during extreme cold spells. Smart temperature sensors can notify you if conditions become dangerous for your plumbing.
4. Go Green with Your Water Usage
Sustainability is key in 2025. Install low-flow fixtures, fix drips promptly, and consider a greywater recycling system to reduce waste. Rainwater harvesting systems are another eco-friendly way to supplement your water supply and reduce strain on municipal resources.
5. Be Careful What You Flush
Avoid flushing anything other than toilet paper down your toilets. Items like wipes (even if labeled “flushable”), paper towels, and hygiene products can clog your pipes and lead to expensive repairs.
6. Invest in a Tankless Water Heater
Tankless water heaters are energy-efficient and provide hot water on demand. They’re compact, long-lasting, and can significantly lower your energy bills. Ensure professional installation for optimal performance.
7. Monitor Water Pressure
Excessively high water pressure can damage pipes and fixtures over time. Invest in a water pressure gauge and aim for a pressure level between 40-60 PSI. A pressure regulator can help maintain safe levels automatically.
8. Know Your Water Shut-Off Valve
Emergencies happen. Knowing where your home’s main water shut-off valve is located can save you from significant damage during a leak or burst pipe. Make sure all household members are familiar with its location and operation.
9. Keep Drains Clear
Avoid pouring grease, coffee grounds, or food scraps down the drain. Use drain screens to catch debris and clean them regularly. For stubborn clogs, avoid harsh chemical cleaners and opt for eco-friendly enzymatic solutions or professional help.
10. Plan for Upgrades
If your plumbing system is over 20 years old, consider upgrading to modern materials like PEX or copper. Older materials such as galvanized steel are prone to corrosion and leaks. Upgrading now can save you money and stress in the long run.

Using the wrong chemicals or mixing incompatible products can damage your sprayer and affect its performance. Always read the labels and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. When using Mitra Sprayers, check their user manual for guidelines on compatible chemicals.
Mix Chemicals Properly: Mix chemicals in the right proportions with basket mixer to avoid clogging or damage to the sprayer.
Rinse the Tank Before Switching Chemicals: If you’re switching between different chemicals, rinse the tank thoroughly to prevent reactions or contamination.
4. Store the Sprayer Properly
Proper storage is crucial, especially during off-seasons. Here’s how to store your agriculture sprayer safely:
Clean and Dry: Clean the sprayer thoroughly and let it dry completely to prevent rust or mold.
Drain the System: Drain all water and chemicals from the tank, pump, and hoses to prevent freezing or corrosion.
Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply lubricant to moving parts like the pump, Gearbox, Bearing block, Wheel hub, PTO shaft and valves to keep them in good condition.
5. Replace Worn-Out Parts
Over time, some parts of your sprayer will wear out and need replacement. Common parts to check include:
Nozzles: Replace nozzles that show uneven spray patterns or excessive wear.
Filters: Clean or replace filters mesh regularly to prevent clogs.
Seals and Gaskets: Inspect seals and gaskets for cracks or leaks and replace them as needed.
Air accumulator and diaphragm: replace at every 500hrs.
Hoses: Replace worn or damaged hoses to avoid sudden breakdowns.
Using genuine replacement parts from Mitra Sprayers ensures compatibility and durability.
6. Follow the Manufacturer’s Guidelines
Always refer to the manufacturer’s manual for specific maintenance instructions. Mitra Sprayers provide detailed guidelines for operating and maintaining their products. Following these instructions ensures optimal performance and prevents accidental damage.
7. Train Your Team
If you’re not the only one using the sprayer, ensure everyone on your team knows how to operate and maintain it properly. Conduct regular training sessions to:
Teach proper cleaning and storage techniques.
Explain how to handle chemicals safely.
Show how to identify and fix common issues.
A well-trained team reduces the risk of accidents and extends the life of your agriculture sprayer.
8. Keep Spare Parts Handy
Having spare parts on hand can save time during busy farming seasons. Stock up on essential items like nozzles, filters, hoses, and seals & O-rings. This way, you can quickly replace damaged parts without delaying your work.
Conclusion
Regular maintenance of your agriculture sprayer is essential for efficient and effective farming. By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your sprayer remains in excellent condition, saving you time and money in the long run. Mitra Sprayers are designed for durability and ease of maintenance, making them a reliable choice for farmers.
Investing a little time in sprayer maintenance today will pay off with better crop yields and fewer headaches tomorrow. Keep your agriculture sprayer in top shape, and enjoy a successful farming season!

Known Reasons for an A/C Compressor to Fail with Bonus Installation Tips
When it comes to keeping your car cool during those hot summer months, your A/C compressor is the heart of your air conditioning system. It ensures that refrigerant flows through your system, maintaining the cool, refreshing atmosphere inside your car. But like any critical component, A/C compressors can fail, and when they do, it can be both frustrating and costly. At Protec Car Care in Melton, we’re here to help you understand the common reasons why A/C compressors fail, along with some bonus installation tips to keep your system running smoothly.
1. Lack of Proper Maintenance
One of the most common reasons an A/C compressor fails is due to poor maintenance. Over time, dirt, debris, and moisture can accumulate in the system, causing blockages or corrosion. Regularly servicing your A/C system ensures that the refrigerant levels are checked, and components are cleaned. At Protec Car Care, we recommend scheduling an annual check-up to keep your A/C compressor and other components in top condition.
2. Low Refrigerant Levels
When your A/C system is low on refrigerant, it puts extra strain on the compressor. This can cause overheating and premature wear. Low refrigerant levels can be the result of a leak, a faulty valve, or improper charging. To prevent this, always get your A/C system recharged by a professional like Protec Car Care, and ensure any leaks are repaired promptly.
3. Electrical Failures
A/C compressors rely on electrical components to function properly. A blown fuse, faulty wiring, or a malfunctioning relay can disrupt the compressor’s operation. Electrical failures are often tricky to diagnose, but with the help of the experts at Protec Car Care in Melton, you can get your system checked and restored to its optimal performance.
4. Clutch Problems
The clutch in your A/C compressor engages and disengages the compressor. If the clutch fails to engage, the compressor won’t be able to pump refrigerant through the system. Common causes of clutch failure include worn-out bearings, excessive heat, or electrical issues. If you notice strange noises or a lack of cooling, it’s time to have your compressor checked.
5. Overheating
Overheating is another leading cause of A/C compressor failure. When the system is overworked, especially during extreme temperatures, the compressor can overheat and seize up. Be mindful of your driving habits and the condition of your vehicle’s cooling system, as it plays a crucial role in keeping your A/C compressor from overheating.
6. Contaminants in the System
If contaminants like dirt, moisture, or debris make their way into your A/C system, they can clog or damage the compressor. Regular system flushes and using the right type of refrigerant are essential to preventing these issues. A clean, well-maintained system will ensure your compressor stays running efficiently for longer.
Bonus Installation Tips for a Long-Lasting A/C System
At Protec Car Care in Melton, we know that installation is key to the longevity of your A/C system. Here are some tips to make sure your A/C compressor and system are installed correctly and last for years:
Proper Component Matching Make sure the compressor is compatible with your car’s A/C system. Incorrect parts can cause leaks or inefficient operation. Consult with a professional like Protec Car Care to ensure you’re using the right components for your specific vehicle model.
System Flush Before installing a new compressor, make sure the entire system is flushed out to remove any dirt, oil, or old refrigerant. This ensures that the new compressor will function properly and prevents contaminants from damaging the new part.
Seal All Connections During installation, it’s crucial to properly seal all the connections. Leaks at the compressor or hose connections can lead to refrigerant loss, which will damage your system. Double-check the seals to ensure everything is tight and secure.
Check for Proper Lubrication Compressor lubrication is essential for smooth operation. Always check that the compressor is properly lubricated with the correct oil to prevent premature wear and failure.
Test the System After Installation Once the compressor is installed, test the system thoroughly to ensure it’s cooling efficiently. Check for unusual noises, leaks, or performance issues before taking the vehicle back on the road.
Conclusion
A/C compressor failure doesn’t have to be inevitable. By understanding the common causes and following our expert tips, you can keep your system in top shape for years to come. If you're in Melton and need a professional hand with your car’s air conditioning system, don’t hesitate to contact us at Protec Car Care. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality service and keeping you cool when you need it most.
Feel free to reach out to us for more advice or to schedule your next A/C service. Stay cool!

What’s the Secret to Prolonging Your LG Washing Machine’s Life?
Tumblr media
Your LG washing machine is a reliable partner in your daily chores, but like any appliance, it requires proper care to ensure longevity. While LG washing machines are designed to last for many years, regular maintenance and smart usage can significantly extend their life and keep them running efficiently. So, what’s the secret to prolonging your LG washing machine’s life? Here are some expert tips to help you maximize the lifespan and performance of your appliance.
LG Washing machine service in Coimbatore
1. Regular Cleaning and Maintenance
Over time, dirt, detergent residue, and grime can build up inside your washing machine, affecting its performance. Regular cleaning is essential for keeping your LG washing machine running smoothly.
How to Do It:
• Clean the drum regularly with a washing machine cleaner or a simple vinegar solution (1 cup of white vinegar added to an empty wash cycle).
• Wipe down the door seal and detergent drawers to prevent mold buildup.
• Run a hot water cycle occasionally to flush out any hidden dirt or detergent buildup.
Why It Helps:
This prevents unpleasant odors and keeps the machine in top condition by removing blockages and buildup that can cause wear and tear.
2. Avoid Overloading
It’s tempting to fill up the washing machine with as much laundry as possible, but overloading it can strain the motor, cause unbalanced loads, and reduce the washing efficiency.
How to Do It:
• Always load the washer according to the manufacturer's recommended capacity.
• Distribute clothes evenly around the drum to prevent strain on the machine.
LG Washing machine service in Coimbatore
Why It Helps:
Overloading the washing machine forces it to work harder than needed, which can lead to excessive strain on the drum, motor, and suspension system, causing premature wear.
3. Use the Right Detergent
Not every detergent is compatible with all washing machines. Using the wrong type of detergent can damage the internal components and cause the machine to overwork.
LG Washing machine service in Coimbatore
How to Do It:
• Choose a high-efficiency (HE) detergent that’s designed for front-load washers, as it produces fewer suds and is easier on the machine.
• Always use the recommended amount of detergent – using too much can create excess foam and leave a residue that may affect the machine’s function.
Why It Helps:
Using the right detergent reduces residue buildup and ensures that your washing machine operates at peak efficiency.
4. Proper Water Supply and Drainage
Water quality and the drainage system play a significant role in the health of your LG washing machine. Hard water can cause mineral buildup, while improper drainage can result in clogs and mechanical issues.
How to Do It:
• Consider installing a water softener if you live in an area with hard water.
• Check and clean the drain filter regularly to avoid clogs.
• Ensure that the water inlet valve is working correctly and there are no leaks.
LG Washing machine service in Coimbatore
Why It Helps:
A steady water supply and efficient drainage prevent blockages, reduce wear on the pump, and help maintain the machine’s efficiency.
5. Keep the Door Open After Use
After every wash cycle, it’s important to leave the washing machine door open for a while. This prevents moisture from getting trapped inside, which can lead to mold and mildew buildup.
How to Do It:
• After you finish a load, leave the washing machine door slightly ajar to allow the interior to air out and dry.
Why It Helps:
Leaving the door open helps prevent mold and odor buildup, which can impact the machine's performance and the freshness of your laundry.
6. Check Hoses and Connections Regularly
The hoses that supply water to your washing machine can wear out over time, leading to leaks or even floods. Checking them regularly can prevent unexpected water damage and ensure the washing machine is functioning efficiently.
LG Washing machine service in Coimbatore
How to Do It:
• Inspect the water hoses for signs of wear, cracks, or leaks every few months.
• Replace hoses that are older than five years, even if they don’t show any visible damage.
Why It Helps:
Well-maintained hoses ensure consistent water flow to the washing machine, which is essential for proper functioning and preventing leaks.
7. Perform Regular Professional Servicing
While most of the maintenance can be done by yourself, it’s important to schedule professional servicing at least once a year. A qualified technician can inspect the internal components, detect early signs of wear, and address issues before they become serious problems.
How to Do It:
• Schedule an annual check-up with an authorized LG service center to ensure your washing machine is running efficiently.
Why It Helps:
Professional servicing can help detect and fix problems before they lead to costly repairs or replacements.
8. Be Mindful of the Machine’s Location
Where you place your washing machine matters. Excessive vibrations or temperature fluctuations can lead to unnecessary wear.
LG Washing machine service in Coimbatore
How to Do It:
• Ensure the washing machine is placed on a flat, stable surface to reduce vibrations.
• Avoid placing the washing machine in extremely hot or cold locations, as this can damage its components.
Why It Helps:
Proper placement reduces the risk of mechanical damage and ensures smoother operation of the washing machine.
Conclusion
