"Lead is a neurotoxin; it causes premature deaths and lifelong negative effects. It’s said “there is no safe level of lead exposure” — as far as we know, any lead causes damage, and it just gets worse the more exposure there is.
After a 20-year, worldwide campaign, in 2021 Algeria became the final country to end leaded gasoline in cars — something the US phased out in 1996. That should make a huge difference to environmental lead levels. But lots of sources remain, from car batteries to ceramics...
Bangladesh phased out leaded gasoline in the 1990s. But high blood lead levels have remained. Why? When researchers Stephen Luby and Jenny Forsyth, doing work in rural Bangladesh, tried to isolate the source, it turned out to be a surprising one: lead-adulterated turmeric.
Turmeric, a spice in common use for cooking in South Asia and beyond, is yellow, and adding a pigment made of lead chromate makes for bright, vibrant colors — and better sales. Buyers of the adulterated turmeric were slowly being poisoned...
But there’s also good news: A recent paper studying lead in turmeric in Bangladesh found that researchers and the Bangladeshi government appear to have driven lead out of the turmeric business in Bangladesh.
How Bangladesh got serious about lead poisoning
The researchers who’d isolated turmeric as the primary cause of high blood lead levels —working for the nonprofit International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh — went to meet with government officials. They collected samples nationwide and published a 2019 follow-up paper on the extent of the problem. Bangladesh’s Food Safety Authority got involved.
They settled on a two-part approach, starting with an education campaign to warn people about the dangers of lead. Once people had been warned that lead adulteration was illegal, they followed up with raids to analyze turmeric and fine sellers who were selling adulterated products.
They posted tens of thousands of fliers informing people about the risks of lead. They got coverage in the news. And then they swept through the markets with X-ray fluorescence analyzers, which detect lead. They seized contaminated products and fined sellers.
According to the study released earlier this month, this worked spectacularly well. “The proportion of market turmeric samples containing detectable lead decreased from 47 percent pre-intervention in 2019 to 0 percent in 2021,” the study found. And the vanishing of lead from turmeric had an immediate and dramatic effect on blood lead levels in the affected populations, too: “Blood lead levels dropped a median of 30 percent.”
The researchers who helped make that result happen are gearing up for similar campaigns in other areas where spices are adulterated.
The power of problem-solving
...When the Food Safety Authority showed up at the market and started issuing fines for lead adulteration, it stopped being a savvy business move to add lead. Purchasers who were accustomed to unnatural lead-colored turmeric learned how to recognize non-adulterated turmeric. And so lead went from ubiquitous to nearly nonexistent in the space of just a few years.
That’s a better world for everyone, from turmeric wholesalers to vulnerable kids — all purchased at a shockingly low price. The paper published this month concludes, “with credible information, appropriate technology, and good enough governance, the adulteration of spices can be stopped.”
There’s still a lot more to be done. India, like Bangladesh, has widespread adulteration of turmeric. And safety testing will have to remain vigilant to prevent lead in Bangladesh from creeping back into the spice supply.
But for all those caveats, it’s rare to see such fast, decisive action on a major health problem — and impressive to see it immediately rewarded with such a dramatic improvement in blood lead levels and health outcomes. It’s a reminder that things can change, and can change very quickly, as long as people care, and as long as they act."

Principles, Technical Indicators and Wide Applications of RoHS Tester
Tumblr media
What is a RoHS Tester? A RoHS tester is a specialized device used to ensure compliance with the European Union’s RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive. This directive aims to limit the use of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products. The primary function of a RoHS tester is to measure the levels of the following six hazardous substances in products: • Lead (Pb): Commonly used in solder alloys for electronic components. • Cadmium (Cd): Found in batteries, pigments, and plastics. • Mercury (Hg): Previously used in switches and lamps. • Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+): Used for anti-corrosion coatings on metals. • Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB): Added to plastics as flame retardants. • Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE): Another common flame retardant. Importance of RoHS Testing With increasing global environmental awareness, countries have imposed stricter regulations on hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products. The EU’s RoHS directive is a critical environmental regulation that ensures products sold in the market contain minimal amounts of specific hazardous substances. Using a RoHS tester, manufacturers can confirm that their products comply with these regulations, avoiding legal risks and enhancing market competitiveness. The general steps for using a RoHS tester include: • Sample Preparation: Prepare the product or material samples to be tested, ensuring they are clean and free from contaminants. • Instrument Calibration: Calibrate the tester according to the specific detection requirements to ensure accurate data. • Testing Process: Place the sample in the tester, start the testing procedure, and the device will automatically analyze the levels of hazardous substances in the sample. • Results Analysis: After testing, the device generates a detailed report, including the specific content of each hazardous substance. • Technical Principles of RoHS Testers • RoHS testers detect hazardous substances in electronic products. Most common RoHS testers use X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis technology, which can be classified into Energy Dispersive XRF (EDXRF) and Wavelength Dispersive XRF (WDXRF). Due to its simpler principle and structure, EDXRF is widely used in the market. X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis Technology Characteristic X-Rays: RoHS testers use X-rays or gamma rays emitted by a radioactive isotope source or an X-ray generator to interact with the atoms in the sample. When inner-shell electrons are ejected and outer-shell electrons fill the vacancies, characteristic X-rays with specific energies are emitted. These are unique to each element and can be used to identify their presence. Element Content and X-Ray Intensity: The energy of characteristic X-rays varies between elements, enabling qualitative analysis. The intensity of these X-rays is proportional to the element’s concentration, allowing for quantitative analysis. Applications and Regulations In China, RoHS testers are extensively used in the production, sale, and import of electronic information products to control and reduce environmental pollution. However, this regulation does not apply to export products. EDX-2A_RoHS Testing Equipment RoHS testers are high-precision instruments used to detect the content of hazardous substances in electronic products. Their main technical specifications are: • Element Range: From sulfur (S) to uranium (U) • Content Range: 1 ppm to 99.99% • Detection Limits: For hazardous elements (Cd/Pb/Cr/Hg/Br), the detection limit can reach up to 1 ppm • Measurement Time: 60 to 200 seconds Detectable Elements RoHS testers measure the content of elements specified by RoHS standards, including: • Lead (Pb): Below 1000 ppm • Mercury (Hg): Below 1000 ppm • Cadmium (Cd): Below 100 ppm • Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+): Below 1000 ppm • Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB): Below 1000 ppm • Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE): Below 1000 ppm RoHS testers are widely used across various industries to ensure products meet environmental regulations and reduce pollution. Major application areas include: • Professional Testing Institutions • Electronics Manufacturing • Toy and Entertainment Equipment Manufacturing • Gift and Jewelry Manufacturing • Furniture and Coating Manufacturing • Textiles and Leather Manufacturing • Large Household Appliances Manufacturing • Small Household Appliances Manufacturing • Audio-Visual Equipment Manufacturing • Machinery and Tools Manufacturing Conclusion RoHS testers are extensively used across various industries to ensure products comply with the RoHS directive. Through rigorous quality control and testing processes, industries can minimize the use of hazardous substances, protect the environment, and enhance the market competitiveness of their products. Xi'an Lyphar was established in 2011 with a focus on the extraction of phycocyanin and has rich expertise in extraction, research and development and product use. A food safety system that assures products that originate from raw materials to the consumers' hands, and ensures that the quality of the product is guaranteed after the sale.
5. Dosage of Phycocyanin
Consumption of food
The amount of phycocyanin that is ingested through food as well as other sources of nutrition, such as the food ingredient, supplements for dietary consumption and coatings for supplements to dietary intake is outlined in the International Codex Committee on Food Additives document for a 60 kg adult with a 190 mg/kg (i.e. 11.4g (or 650 mg/kg 9.75g) for a 15kg child. The intake was not thought to be a risk to health. Within the European Union, phycocyanin is utilized as a coloring food raw material that is consumed in unlimited quantities.
App updates
The chemical phycocyanin is used to color food raw ingredient in Europe and is available in unlimited quantities. Therefore, in practical applications it is possible to add it upon request, based on the color depth that is required of the product.
Based on the many years of experience in the market of Xi'an Liphar in order to create the final appearance of light blue just a tiny amount of additional ingredients is needed, like one-thousandth of E18. To increase the depth of blue, increase the amount added.

comic store crush |
 Jay x gn reader 🛼
SORRY THIS TOOK ME LITERAL MONTHS LMAO, I HOPE YOU ENJOY
It all started with Jay entering the comic book store one on an average Monday afternoon.
you’d just clocked into your shift, standing behind the counter watching people come and go. the blue ninja walked into your store, from what you hear he was a regular. his usual purchase was the latest Fritz Donnagan comic issue. He came in once a week at least, usually around the mornings, surveyed the figures and arcade games, purchased his comic and left.
You watched with little interest as he begins his routine. it was the same thing every day. the only interesting thing about today was he came in later than usual. you’ve never been on the clock when he came in late.
the blue ninja rushed to the stands for the new comic, only to find it was sold out already. “aw man ! you’ve got to be kidding me!” he exclaimed, clearly distraught over it. “yeah, you should have come earlier” you said, “the build up for this one’s release was big, there was a crazy amount of people here” you knew that because you arrived early to purchase a copy for yourself. you were too big on comics but figured this would be a good place to start, so you snagged one while you had the chance.
“Do you guys have any left anywhere?” he asked, hoping desperately there was one left for sale. “no,” his shoulders sagged, “but we’re getting another shipment in by thursday if you want to come early for that. Or i can save you one” you offered.
immediately he brightened up, “Really?” he asked, feeling it was too good to be true. “yeah, just don’t tell anyone” you said, lowering your voice and looking around “we’re not really supposed to do that”
jay nodded with understanding, a serious look on his face. “I see..can you save me one then? i’ll come in whenever your in to get it and pay!” he said, barley containing the excitement in his voice. he may be bummed that he can’t get it today, and he’ll have to avoid any and all spoilers until he got his hands on it, but he was still excited that he could get it.
you nod, looking at him clearly. freckles ran across his right cheek, over his nose bridge and to his left cheek. some went lower and were more sparse, like they got separated from the group. and others went higher, on his forehead and the sides of his eyes. they all varied in pigmentation, from a few shades darker then his skin, to several shades darker. they created an intricate artwork along his face.
his mouth was quirked up in a goofy smile, his lips a warm rosy shade. they were freckled, too. a single dark freckle lay on his lower lip, just by the corner.
his eyes were bright and optimistic, his excitement making them shimmer under the fluorescent lights above.
“oh, yeah I can do that for you. I just need your name?” you said, plucking a sticky note from its pad, and a pen from the cup to your right.
“it’s Jay! Jay Walker!” he said proudly. “well it’s nice to meet you, Jay Walker, i’ll save one for you. i’ll be in friday if you want to pick it up then?” you tell him, revising your work schedule in your head. “oh and saturday, both in the evenings” you recount, waiting for his response of which day he prefers.
he hummed, tapping his foot in thought. “I think…” his eyes wandered to yours, “i’ll come for it Thursday!” he decided shortly. with a thank you he left the counter to survey the figures and merchandise.
Thursday rolled around, and you were waiting behind the counter bored. you started your shift half an hour ago, but Jay hadn’t shown up yet. you were beginning to think he wouldn’t show up at all- until of course, he came barreling in through the front glass doors.
Jay stumbled up to the counter, sweaty and out of breath. “Woah, what happened to you man?” you asked, concerned. He was red in the face, his hair damp and frizzy. not to mention he smelled..
“Oh, you know, saving people and stuff” he huffed out, bent over. it took him a few minutes to regain his composure and to be able to stand up straight. “i’m sorry i’m so late” he apologized, wiping his face with his hand.
“it’s okay, i got your comic” you spoke softly, turning to look for the mini fridge under the counter. you duck down and pop back up, a cold bottle of water in hand. “here, you look beyond thirsty” he took it graciously, downing half of it quickly. “Thanks! I really was thirsty!” he sighed, taking a deep breath.
you set the plastic wrapped comic on the counter, scanning the back of it. “4.99″ you smiled, looking back from the register to him. jay was staring, and seeing this caught you off guard. your felt your face get a little hot, staring back at him. he smiled, a small, goofy looking smile. he handed you a slightly damp 10 dollar bill, grimacing a little at the state of it.
“thanks so much for holding this for me again!” he grinned. “not a problem,” you replied, turning to scrawl something on a sticky note. you folded it up as he watched from the other side of the counter, confused. you shakily passed it to him, “open it outside” you smiled.
jay smiled, and after another round of thanks and a goodbye he left. wou waited anxiously on your stool, waiting to see what he would say.
half an  hour had gone by without a text, or a call. you worried he didn’t feel the same. how could you be so stupid, you asked yourself, forehead against the cool glass of the counter. deciding your fate was made, you sighed. maybe you would mope about it all day, and when you got home you’d eat ice cream and move on.
until the ding of your phone pulled you back to your senses.
‘I think you’re cute too, I’d like to get to know you more :)’
and another ding,
‘sorry that took so long, got caught up fighting more bad guys >_<’

How Can Potential Buyers Best Decide Between Canon’s New Imageprograf GP Series Printer Models?
We are proud here at Prizma Graphics to be able to make available the GP-200, GP-300, GP-2000, and GP-4000 machines that constitute Canon’s ImagePROGRAF GP Series of printers. Choose any of these models, and you will be benefitting from a formidable six-colour or 11-colour printer, with all of them incorporating a fluorescent pink ink.
But beyond the above, what are the main factors that would cause you to choose one of these new Canon printer models over the others?
The key differences between the GP-200, GP-300, GP-2000, and GP-4000
If you were to opt for the Canon ImagePROGRAF GP-200 24” or GP-300 36”, in both cases, you would be getting a sophisticated six-colour printer that you would be able to count on for the fast production of premium-quality posters and banners for such purposes as point of sale and education.
However, for many users, what might be especially attractive is the fact that the ImagePROGRAF GP Series is the first range of printers to have been awarded a “PANTONE-calibrated” licence for “PANTONE PASTELS & NEONS GUIDE Coated”, which includes fluorescent and pastel colours.
On top of this, the GP-2000 and GP-4000 machines achieve almost total coverage of the “PANTONE FORMULA GUIDE Solid Coated” that sees use in wide-ranging applications such as printing and design.
All of this means that with any of the aforementioned GP Series devices, you will be able to achieve an impressive 97% coverage of the “PANTONE PASTELS & NEONS GUIDE Coated”. So, whether you will be printing for an application that calls for particularly bright and eye-catching colour, or instead calmer and softer shades, you will be well-served by any of these models.
If you were to acquire the Canon ImagePROGRAF GP-2000 24” A1 11-colour poster printer, though – or its GP-4000 44” 1118mm bigger sibling– you would be able to go even further. Specifically, these printers can both deliver the aforementioned 97% coverage of the “PANTONE PASTELS & NEONS GUIDE Coated”, but with their new and expanded ink-set, they are also capable of providing 99% coverage of the “PANTONE FORMULA GUIDE Solid Coated”.
So, with either the GP-2000 or GP-4000, you will be able to achieve everything that users of the GP-200 and GP-300 can, but with the added peace of mind of knowing your printer will be perfectly suited to colour critical applications requiring the most faithful replication of colours for the likes of logos, packaging, and branding.
11 colours make for an expanded scope of printing possibilities
It is at the highest end of the Canon ImagePROGRAF GP Series range, then, where the greatest ambitions can be realised for all manner of highly demanding applications.
The GP-2000 and GP-4000 models of this highly regarded range are the world’s first aqueous pigment large-format printers that incorporate 10 colours, plus fluorescent pink ink. Those 10 colours encompass four newly developed red, orange, green and violet inks, thereby expanding the range of colour reproduction to achieve the largest colour gamut for the entire Canon ImagePROGRAF Series.
Having said that, it is important to acknowledge that the GP-200 and GP-300 devices are also impressive in this regard; indeed, all four printers use “Radiant Infusion” technology to layer the fluorescent pink ink with other inks on the surface of the paper during printing. This allows for the achievement of both bright and soft colour reproduction.
The combination of such capability and the bundled PC software “PosterArtistLite” – again across all four GP Series printers – allows for the easy creation of high-impact posters.
Would you appreciate more in-depth advice and assistance when you come to buy?
With the above being just some of the capabilities and features that set out the Canon ImagePROGRAF GP-200, GP-300, GP-2000, and GP-4000 from each other and their broader industry competitors, we recognise that you might feel a little overwhelmed when you are attempting to narrow down your options.
Our team at Prizma Graphics would be pleased to help you find the printers and/or media that represent the best match to your circumstances, needs, and intended application. Simply get in touch with us today, via phone or email, for further information and advice.

During the 19th century, emerald green pigment was all the rage in fashion and home decor—despite the fact that it contains arsenic.
Some books scattered throughout the world are literally poisonous.
These toxic books, produced in the 19th century, are bound in vivid cloth colored with a notorious pigment known as emerald green that’s laced with arsenic. Many of them are going unnoticed on shelves and in collections.
88 19th-century books containing emerald green have been uncovered. Seventy of them are covered with vivid green bookcloth, and the rest have the pigment incorporated onto paper labels or decorative features. One of the emerald green books was found on sale at a local bookstore.
While these poisonous books would likely cause only minor harm unless someone decided to devour a nearly 200-year-old tome, the alluringly vibrant books are not totally without risk. People who handle them frequently, such as librarians or researchers, may accidentally inhale or ingest particles that contain arsenic, which could make them feel lethargic and light-headed or suffer from diarrhea and stomach cramps. Against the skin, arsenic can cause irritations and lesions. Serious cases of arsenic poisoning can lead to heart failure, lung disease, neurological dysfunction, and—in extreme situations—death.
So just how common are these poison green books? It's somewhat hard to predict because the data set is still small, but its expect there could be thousands of these books around the world. Any library that collects mid-19th-century cloth publishers' bindings is likely to have at least one or two.
Tumblr media
A color to die for
Emerald green, also known as Paris green, Vienna green, and Schweinfurt green, is the product of combining copper acetate with arsenic trioxide, producing copper acetoarsenite. It was used everywhere, from clothing and wallpaper to fake flowers and paint. To say that Victorian England was bathed in emerald green is an understatement: By 1860 more than 700 tons of the pigment had been produced in the country alone.
Arsenic’s toxicity was known at the time, but the vibrant color was nevertheless popular and cheap to produce. Wallpapers shed toxic green dust that covered food and coated floors, and clothing colored with the pigment irritated the skin and poisoned the wearer. Despite the risks, emerald green was ingrained into Victorian life—a color to literally die for.
Traditional clothing fabric can’t withstand the book binding process, and it isn’t sturdy enough to function as a cover.
Cloth-bound books took off in the 1840s.
Book covers could suddenly take on a wide range of hues. Bookmakers produced a colorful array of books with dyes, which are solutions that chemically bond to the substance they’re applied to, and pigments, which are materials that physically coat the substance, like dried mud on a Sunday dress. As such, the era’s most fashionable shade of green pigment could grace the covers of popular books.
The trouble with pigments, though, is that they tend to crack, peel, and flake off over time.
Poison in the library
One of these poisonous books, Rustic Adornments for Homes and Taste, published in 1857, front board had a black, waxy excretion on the surface. The colorant in the bookcloth was flaking off really easily around the area where one person was working.
The sample was first studied with an x-ray fluorescence spectrometer, which bombards material with x-rays and measures the energies of emitted photons to determine its chemical composition. This technique can tell you the elements that are present, but not how they are arranged in a molecule. Another technique using a Raman spectrophotometer measures how light from a laser interacts with target molecules, shifting the energy of the laser up or down. Much like each person has unique fingerprints, every molecule has a characteristic Raman spectrum.
X-ray fluorescence revealed the presence of both copper and arsenic in the green pigment, a key finding, and the unique fingerprint from Raman spectroscopy positively identified the pigment as the infamous emerald green.
Handling poison literature
Next, the amount of arsenic on the book's cover was measured. It was found that the bookcloth contained an average of 1.42 milligrams of arsenic per square centimeter. Without medical care, a lethal dose of arsenic for an adult is roughly 100 milligrams, the mass of several grains of rice.
Arsenic is a heavy metal and does have some toxicity associated with it, principally, either inhalation or ingestion. The relative risk of emerald green bookcloth depends on frequency.
Anyone handling these tomes should isolate the books and work on them on tabletops with fume hoods to control any arsenic particulates. People that have access to these old books for research should be wearing gloves and using a designated space to review those books.
In the Library Company of Philadelphia an additional 28 emerald green cloth books were identifed. With a larger sample size, it was discovered that most books with arsenic-containing emerald green bookcloth were published in the 1850s.
Despite the toxicity of arsenic-based emerald green in household goods, wares, and clothing, it was never prohibited.

What does the weatherability of titanium dioxide affect?
The main uses of titanium dioxide powder: paint, plastic, ink, paper, cosmetics, chemical fiber, electronics, ceramics, enamel, welding rod, alloy, glass, etc.
A. Coating industry: Coatings made of titanium dioxide have bright colors, high covering power, strong tinting strength, low dosage, and many varieties, which can protect the stability of the medium, and can enhance the mechanical strength and adhesion of the paint film. Focus on preventing cracks, preventing the penetration of ultraviolet rays and moisture, and prolonging the life of the paint film.
B. Plastic industry: Adding titanium dioxide to plastic can improve the heat resistance, light resistance and weather resistance of plastic products, improve the physical and chemical properties of plastic products, enhance the mechanical strength of products, and prolong service life.
C. Paper industry: As a paper filler, it is mainly used in high-grade paper and thin paper. Adding titanium dioxide to the paper can make the paper have good whiteness, good gloss, high strength, thin and smooth, no penetration during printing, and light weight. Titanium dioxide for papermaking generally uses anatase titanium dioxide without surface treatment, which can act as a fluorescent whitening agent and increase the whiteness of paper. However, the laminated paper requires the use of surface-treated rutile titanium dioxide to meet the requirements of light resistance and heat resistance.
D. Advanced ink: The ink containing titanium dioxide is durable and does not change color, has good surface wettability and is easy to disperse. Titanium dioxide used in the ink industry has both rutile and anatase types.
The effect of titanium dioxide on weather resistance is as follows
1. The ability of titanium dioxide to absorb ultraviolet light The resin will degrade when it absorbs ultraviolet light. The correct choice of titanium dioxide can effectively resist ultraviolet light. Choose regular rutile titanium dioxide for sale.
2. The shape of titanium dioxide particles The flat particles have a strong orientation effect, which is parallel to the surface of the coating film, which reduces the water and gas permeability of the coating film, which is beneficial to improve the weather resistance.
3. The smaller the particle size of titanium dioxide, the larger the surface area and the higher the UV absorption rate.
4. Active groups of titanium dioxide There are many active groups on the surface of titanium dioxide (such as containing surface hydroxyl groups, adsorbed unstable anions and water molecules, etc.), which can chemically react with the base material, and may also be the aging of the base material.
Catalysts (such as TiO2 have photoredox effects). For example, there are extensive surface acid-base reactions in pigments and fillers, and surface valence ions (such as aluminum, iron ions and other transition metal ions) can also undergo electrotransfer reactions, which change the color of pigments in color pigments, and in white Chalking, yellowing, etc. will occur in pigments and fillers. Antifouling Whether it is man-made or natural, the latex paint on the wall will be polluted by various pollutants, such as sweat, ink, dust, sludge, etc., and these pollutants are very easy to penetrate into the interior of the latex paint, even if Washing with water or detergent cannot be completely cleaned, causing permanent damage to the coating and affecting the appearance of the coating. The main function of latex paint is decoration.
When the surface coating is polluted, it means that the service life of the coating is greatly shortened. To get rid of these stains, the stains had to be sanded down and a second coat of paint was done. Sometimes the entire wall must be repainted in order to maintain color consistency throughout the wall. It takes a lot of time and wastes paint costs. How to improve the stain resistance of latex coatings is very important. This has also become one of the factors that consumers need to consider when purchasing latex paint.
