You see, it all started during the mid-period of the Simulanka event. I was scrolling through twitter (back when I still had the app) in search of theories and how the event would connect with the by-then soon-to-be-released region, Natlan. I read those theories with mild interest, until my eyes caught a post tagged with a 'leak warning': the Pyro Sovereign is named Xolotl.
My interest increased. Soon, I traced the origin of that leak, and it brought me to the Genshin Leaks reddit. There, it was said once again, the Pyro Sovereign of Natlan is named Xolotl.
After that, I found myself watching theories regarding Natlan. I always am a lover of Genshin lore and theories, but my position was of a bystander, watching and supporting theories and lore-lovers from a distance with nothing to contribute other than my attention. However, as I was absorbed into the Natlan theories, my my mind started making their own theories. One video I particularly adore is Nekogitsune's 'Natlan’s sky is splitting/How Simulanka & Imaginarium Theatre predict Natlan', as Imaginarium Theatre was also released in the 4.8 patch alongside Simulanka. I was bedazzled by his theories, and suffice to say I was sold. I am still sold, the way that Natlan's sky was ruptured during the 5.3 Archon Quest... but that was for later.
When I returned to Simulanka, many theories started to pop in regard to the Dragon Sovereign. Since Simulanka in a sense was a preview of the future region's storyline, as it was with the previous summer events, Simulanka's Durin definitely a preview of the Pyro Dragon's story. I was enthralled by the idea. A dragon persecuted by all for something beyond his control... and was casted as a villain... finally found his redemption and friendship by the heroes... such a sweet ending. Also, by then (and honestly still is now) I'm such a simp for Neuvillette, so I would be very happy to have another Dragon Sovereign to simp for. All these factors combined made me to be very excited for the Pyro Sovereign's, the by-then named Xolotl, arrival.
The leaks came by, and all I could care about was Xolotl's news. Characters' kits, rewards, and even Capitano I paid little mind, for all was given for Xolotl. Came the day that it was leaked that Xolotl's name was changed to what it is today, Xiuhcoatl. I was a bit confused back then, but looking at the storyline now, perhaps the devs were a little afraid that us players could clock in what is the relationship between the Sage of the Stolen Flame, Waxaklahun Ubah Kan, with the Pyro Sovereign based on the latter's name alone, for Xolotl in the Aztec mythology is a spirit twin of Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent, whom the Mayan version of him, Waxaklahun Ubah Kan and Kukulkan, are the basis for the former's names. I suspect more are in the play in regard of the name's change, especially in the storyline, but we shall talk about it later.
Finally, Natlan came. And while the Archon Quest was exciting, truly, I was sharpening my ears for any mention of Xiuhcoatl and badly hope for his appearance. How bummed I was that the Archon Quest gave no mention of him. Though supplementary quests and lore made me hopeful still, the start of our Little One's quest, the mysterious voice that led us and later we identified as Kukulkan, and those namecards. Oh those namecards. The ones where Xbalanque and Xiuhcoatl are seeming facing each other in their own respective namecard, bathed by the hidden sun and the moonlight. How it fueled my obsession. The lore itself was also intriguing; it's said that Xbalanque slain Xiuhcoatl, but when I dug into the former's cultural inspiration, I wondered, 'is that really true?'.
Rolled by the 5.1 Archon Quest. Honestly, when I watched the trailer, I was so excited by the voice of Xbalanque. Not because Xbalanque himself per se, but the implications of his lore with Xiuhcoatl. Would his appearance indicate a plot twist about the slaying of the Pyro Sovereign, and how the Abyssal shitshow steemed from him?
Alas, that is not the case. His bargain with Ronova was mind blowing, but it was not what I seek. However, I soothed myself by daydreaming of my great Sovereign, like any sane person yearning for their one true love.
Then the next month, came was the first bomb about Natlan lore: Ochkanatlan. The short Archon Quest I paid no mind, it was the newest region that I pour all my attention into. I fall in love with Ochkanatlan: the exploration, the music, and especially the lore. I finished it in a quick succession. That rewards you get when you completed certain % in an area? I finished it within that same version. I love Ochkanatlan. Though to be honest... I only initially seeked Xiuhcoatl, not Och-Kan. You know, when I finished the quest, I was like, "that's it? Lol". It was only after I explored, played the Ixlel and other quests, and reviewed the notes scattered throughout Ochkanatlan, that I got a strong impression on Och-Kan. Then, darasta's fics plunged me further into Xbalanque’s team insanity. I owe my love for them to darasta.
By the way, the murals are incredibly insane. Both depictions of Och-Kan's version of human evolution (elemental beings -> dragons -> humans -> gods) and the Xiuhcoatl/Nibelung murals. Even though Kukulkan shoot down the credibility of the first one, I have a great feeling that both murals are foreshadowing of Xiuhcoatl's story and fate. I know I'm insane, but that's how I love my king Xiuhcoatl.
However, everything (slightly) changed with the arrival of 5.3 Archon Quest.
Forgive me, for a rant is imminent. My honest opinion of this Archon Quest is... I hate it. I truly hate it. I hate it with a burning passion. Such a sloppy way to end our adventure in Natlan. Despite having been preaching about not fighting alone, if it not because of the Traveler, Mavuika would fought Gosoythoth alone. We have no answer on why Gosoythoth could emulate the past archons' voices, and we fail to be intimidated by them, because truly, besides Xbalanque, who are archons that we truly know? Two of them we only know their names through this quest, the other through a weapon's description, which knowing Genshin's fandom's infamous illiteracy, would be the same as never giving the information about that archon in the first place.
There are too many grievances I have with thus quest, but nothing is as important as...
MY KING, XIUHCOATL, REDUCED AS NOTHING AS A VOICELESS VILLAIN.
I know that due to his similarities with Simulanka's Durin, he would be a villain anyway. But the way they handle it... goodness, he was nothing but a form. While the namecard and the boss items' description tell us about his fate, do tell me, is that an adequate way to tell his story to the players? NO! IT ISN'T! HE'S JUST A NARRATIVE TOOL. That, above all issue, was what make me despair over his fate. It isn't fair, how come my beloved and beautiful king deserves this kind of treatment? How come-
If you are part of it, post this in your blog

Daily reminder that Xbalanque mutilated Xiuhcoatl's corpse btw!
A white disc retrieved from the ruler of Cinder City's corroded ruins within Ochkanatlan. It is one of the essential tokens required to journey to the Great Volcano of Tollan and remove the "Flamelord's Blessing" from the little Tepetlisaur's body, and is said to have been one of the fragments left behind when the Flamelord's eye was split in two.
- Golden Entreaty from the "Moment of Awakening" Quest.
The eyes of the great dragon, split in two by the sword of the children of man.
- "Revelations from the Past" Quest
Ngl I have a beef with Xbalanque for this😀
And then the Traveler has the audacity to tell Neuvillette that they fought in a formal duel...
...Hm? You claim that historical records describe the battle against Xbalanque as a formal duel, and the victim's family was treated fairly? Complicated indeed, but a worthwhile consideration nonetheless...
- Neuvillette: About the Pyro Archon
I have several questions:
1. What kind of duel that obligated you to mutilate your losing opponent's corpse? Unless this is a sort of reference to a Mesoamerican ritualistic duel... but I digress. The ball game already filled that role back then. Or maybe Xbalanque was instructed by Waxaklahun to pierce Xiuhcoatl's eyes? Probably. It's stated that his eyes were Xiuhcoatl's weak point, and the writing suggests that this mutilation happened during the battle, which could potentially render my point to a moot. Though I persist, I shall hate Xbalanque by his sin of defeating my King😠
2. Where the fuck you did you get that source Traveler😭 And how the fuck that we didn't know about that??? Did you do some off-screen explorations of Natlan or did Mavuika told you😭 the same Mavuika that told 'Xbalanque' that Ochkanatlan is a tourist spot now???
3. What victim's family??? Waxaklahun??? The rest of the dragons??? What fair treatment???Because ngl, I have the feeling that Xbalanque’s so-called "peace agreement" with the dragons is so... insidious, if I can say so. Alright he made an oath with Waxaklahun to maintain the peace between the dragons and humans, but he had the brilliant idea to appoint Och-Kan to be the next ruler after him. You know, Och-Kan, who even worried their teammates over his overenthusiasm to subjugate the dragons.
...It was from their enemies that he learned the language and thought patterns required to do this. For him, wielding these skills against them was perhaps a deeply satisfying act of revenge. Yet his unconcealed hatred for them was a recurring cause of great concern among his fellow heroes.
- "Delirious Desolation of the Sacred Lord" Weapon Ascension Material
Like if Xbalanque had even a modicum of sincerity, he'd appoint someone who was connected among the dragons and humans, like Lianca. She was raised by a dragon and her tribe accepted dragons. Though I'd admit, since the lore describes her as a freedom-loving gal who didn't use hierarchy in her tribe, I doubt she'd agree to the appointment. (Personally, though? Lianca deserves better than being betrayed by Och-Kan and her child.) But hey, anyone but the racist homosexual man himself! Was Och-Kan that good of a bedmate that you appointed him as your successor, Xbalanque??? If you keep insisting, at the very least teach him to be less racist to himself and the dragons man😭
Or maybe it was his plan? Remember, he saw the vision of the future. And whatever 'hope' he saw from it, he thought that not only the dragons, but his friends, his people, and even Och-Kan's sufferings, are worth it. Man the more I think of it the more insidious he feels...
I have another point, but I shall bring it up in the next post. For now, I just want to simmer in anger and be a hater of Xbalanque😤
Tl;dr: Xbalanque's 'mercy' to the dragons ain't shit. Mf mutilated Xiuhcoatl's corpse and then apponted Och-Kan to be his successor, who not only fucked over the dragons with his fantastic racism, but also the whole Ochkanatlan. And it could be his plan all along because he saw the future, after all.

I would like to ship Xbalanque and Och-Kan though I’d like Sage Hun Ubah Kan to join, TOO…they THREESOME YES
Och-Kan my poor hybrid babe adores Xbalanque so much 🥹I read the texts and smile like their old auntie(?) The Sage is insidious and cunning but Xbalanque is even MoRE cunning that he made the treaty with the sage that made this scheming old dragon lose his initiative to control Natlan LoL
then Xiuhcoatl also will be JOINED because my friend and I both think that Och-Kan is pretty similar to this FlameLord I mean they were both betrayed by the one who stole the flame and they were polluted by the fucking Abyss so why not consider that Xiuhcoatl and Och-Kan are like father and son, and Xbalanque is Och-Kan's beloved adoptive father 👁👁…Waxaklahun Ubah Kan you’re toast (???) I’ll let you be BOTTOM 🙂↕️

Do you by any chance know what the timeline is for Och-kan’s life prior to Xihucoatl’s death? I know there are some documents in Tollan about Kulkulkan performing experiments on children but I’m not sure which (or any) were implied to be about Och-Kan
thank you for the ask!
to be fully frank, i'm not completely sure either 😅 i'm not the best at putting timelines together (to the point it's the only thing i cant either figure out or make up in a coherent way about team xbalanque either) but going through the notes:
this is for sure about him:
"all who have become dragons before him"??? does that mean he actually has/had siblings running around??
(side note, since this is found here, behind the door with the pyro totem puzzle, i wonder if that was Och-Kan's birthplace)

then we have this note, that many seem to think is also about him:
but, if this one was ordered to be "neutralized", and was personally neutralized by the regent, wouldn't that mean he was killed? (apparently, the Chinese text says the subject was "executed" by the Regent, as in put to death, but I'm not certain)
also he was deemed "unfit for dragonhood", while Och-Kan is called "flawless creation"
so I honestly doubt it's him but (treasure hoarder voice) another test subject that was deemed still flawed and killed
edit: or (likelier) it is him and i was bsing/read it too literally 😅
another note mentioning Och-Kan for sure is this one. it seems that Xiuhcoatl was not only aware of Och-Kan's existence, but also aware of his failing to become the King:
this one might kiiiiinda connect to him, since it mentions experiments on Flamelord's Blessing and we know he had it, but it could also be about experiments on Saurians in general and not him specifically
I haven't found any other readable that seemed to be connected to him. I mean there's some about Kukulkan and some of his followers doing experiments outside of Tollan but these must not be about him
the only other mention of him I seemed to find is the dialogue from Ehecatl during the WQ
i'm guessing the (kinda vague and nothing new) timeline is:
Kukulkan creates him > decides to not keep him in Tollan for too long > leaves him in a human tribe > at some point he gets imprisoned by dragons > at some point Xbalanque frees him > he goes with him > he's a crucial part of the plan to raid Tollan by shutting the mechanisms > Xiuhcoatl dies and we know the rest very helpful and detailed, i know
i hope this is slightly helpful, because i'm not 100% sure either and that is why we need a full show/patch series about him tbh
#if any has any correction/addition feel free to add#answered#hoyo give me the full story with him as mc#please#genshin impact#i yapped#natlan#natlan lore#och-kan

natlan 5.0 SPOILERS i didn't finish entire archon quest yet, only the tournament, so pls don't spoil, but i'm already incredibly sus about wayob and night kingdom.
like to begin with, night kingdom is obv a cave of eerie murmurs from simulanka quest, where the winners of the tournament went for the trials. like thats one to one that is happening in natlan. and in smulanka, turned out that these trails in the cave were not solving anything, they repeated hundreds of times without changing anything, and the ghosts\records of previous champions were just stagnating there. which makes me very sus about that obsidian obelisks bc. like functionally they are the same as simulanka's ghost records of prev heroes
next, the dragons. can we talk about the dragons. we have our lil baby pumpkin with what apparently a red mark, blessing of a "flamelord". flamelord is obv pyro sovereign or at least a powerful ancient pyro dragon. and apparently wayob hate it?
hey guys, why do you reject the pyro dragon's blessings?? for a baby dragon???? there was also a quote i didn't screenshot that said like. the power of ancient dragons is incompatible with saurians. why???? vishaps are incredibly adaptive and evolution is their strongest trait. it can't be that they changed shapes or smth. neuvi is perfectly compatible with sovereign authority, and he's human shaped ffs. also, he considers melusines as hydro vishaps, and they are born of abyss dragon body, how are they more "compatible" with ancient dragons than saurians??
speaking of neuvi, he said that he "wouldn't be welcomed in natlan". so like. tldr; who are the wayob and what the fuck do they have against dragon sovereigns and what did they do to the natlan vishaps

Eztli's theme
So, I really wanna ,make Eztli's theme, and I want it to first of all encapsulate what old Natlan was supposed to be, to have the sharp and deep tones the music holds, that would mean having no synthetic sounds at all.
It should sound like you're right there witnessing Eztli, yes sounds kinda glazing, but he's supposed to be THE dragon sovereign, to show his power just with his gaze and poise.
The name should be something along of fire ofc and maybe even disastrous
Oooh I could use one of his titles as inspo
Sovereign of flames
Lord of dragons
Eyes of ichor
Bloody warrior
He who is bathed in ichor
Eztli Dzata
I want to assume that Xiucoatl's titles would not count with Eztli since they are not completely the same dragon, if both have the same position but have not committed the same actions to earn such titles, I should definitely get on with writing Eztli's story then, besides the other shit I've written
Xiucoatl’s titles
Flamelord
Lord of Eroded Primal Fire
Lord of Light and Heat
The Slain Dragon Molded
I suppose flame lord would apply to Eztli, though sovereign of flames does the same job and wouldn't completely plagiarize xiucoatl's titles, and making Eztli his own character
Also I think it having Neuvillette's leit motif would be cute 👉🏽👈🏽
Goddamn I'm gonna go insane

the more i think about the quest with the little one in Ochlanatlan the better it seems
(spoilers)
i liked everything about it but especially the fact that we've been warned about the sage since the very beginning and that he's been hiding in plain sight guiding us exactly where he wanted us to be
och-kan's story is just tragic bc he essentially was just an experiment for his father and lost his mind due to the flamelord's blessing yet tried to save humanity (i don't know whether due to his human soul or sage's teachings)
+ i suspect that the sage played a significant role in natlan's abyss invasions since we learned that he wants to let the abyss destroy teyvat so a new species could evolve

This was another monster week for achievements. I gained over 30 of them, many of which were long-term goals. I went from 20,105 in-game points and 18,950 Lalachievement points up to 20,475 in-game and 19,320 on Lalachievement. I was rank 43 last week and I shot up to 36 this week with only 5 points separating me from the next rank.
Total points gained: 370 Title(s) earned: Master Fisher, Forestcaster, Flame Puppy, Flame Howler, Flamelord, Shrimp Mariner, Of the Golden Lead Item(s) earned: Rod of the Luminary, Crimson Standard Ring, Laladile minion, Alembic of the Luminary
I finished the last non-pvp related Maelstrom achievement, so I decided to swap over to the Flames to work on those non-pvp related achievements. It's going to be such a pain in the ass having to go to Mael HQ anyway for FC stuff, but achievements are achievements.
I finished some of the more involved ARR crafting/gathering achievements. FSH and ALC are both done and I've started in on ARM.
I finished another HW relic and then got partway through another. I've also only got one more EW relic to finish until I'm done with those.

Hi!! 👋
I've been reading a bit of your opinions of Xiuhcoatl, and I'm starting to think about him as a character (and since there's never enough information about him, heh) I wanted to know how you could describe him?
There's a lot of things that I still find confusing since part of his lore is tied to so many different names that I get lost while reading and analyzing, so I prefer to consult a professional the matter (you 😼)
Me??? A professional??? Jdndjdnd if posting deranged yappings about a character makes one a professional of the character, well, that makes me a pro I guess😅 what can I say, I just love Xiuhcoatl so much.
For starter, I gotta preface the history of our Lord Sovereign the best as I can, as in 5.5, so we all can start from the same page:
1. His History
Xiuhcoatl was one of the Dragon Sovereign, original rulers of Teyvat before the Primordial One coming. He presided over Pyro, and he was the first lifeform that emerged from the Primal Flame. He also had authority over Phlogiston, an advanced form of Pyro and the original form of the seven elements. He probably also the creator of the Iridescent Inscriptions, basically the code used the Phlogiston to do their commands, just like a computer code. According to Kukulkan, Xiuhcoatl was the one that transmitted knowldege, heat, and wisdom to his kind using his horn, an ancient version of the Flamelord's Blessing.
It's heavily implied that Xiuhcoatl aided Nibelung, the leader among the Sovereigns, in the construction of the three moon. The dragon civilization is rumored to have spaceships and space lift, so yeah, it checks. However, with the invasion of the Primordial One, everything went to shit for the Dragons. Nibelung left Teyvat to seek power that could help them fight the Primordial One, and he brought the Forbidden Knowledge a.k.a the Abyss. He and Xiuhcoatl became infected by it, the Primordial One recovered the Irminsul that Nibelung wrecked and turned its root, the ley lines, as "the girdles that protect the planet" as per Kukulkan's words. The Primordial One then imprisoned Xiuhcoatl in the volcano's lava for an unknown period of time, making it Xiuhcoatl's false death.
Xiuhcoatl later awoken, though his body and mind were eroding by the abyssal infection. Knowing his time was limited, he constructed the Tzitzimimeh (Astral Assamblages) that powered the Tollan city and possibly this next device, and the Huitzilopochtli, the device that could evaporate the world into nothingness, and according to Xiuhcoatl, evolve everyone. It's still unknown whether the white agony we could saw in the quest alternate ending is really Xiuhcoatl's intended aim, but we'll talk about it later. He also constructed the prototype Secret Source Servant, the biggest one, to manage the phlogiston flow and the city's information. The other little critters we see in the area are his descendant's creations, based on his.
During these devices construction, the Dragons managed to knock back the Primordial One's forces back to the "mountain valley", however, the Primordial One itself was sleeping, and could wake up and fight back later.
Yet Xiuhcoatl's mind and body eventually devolved enough to lost his memories and turned him into a 'walking corpse'. Kukulkan left the dragonkind and turned his hope towards humanity, giving them the knowlegde of the Phlogiston. The human forces then managed to invade the Tollan Volcano, killed the Dragonlords, and finally, Xbalanque fought Xiuhcoatl. Xbalanque managed to pierce Xiuhcoatl's eyes, one of which is the control hub of the Huitzilopochtli. They died together in the fight, but Xbalanque was revived, seemingly by Ronova. Xbalanque then stole Xiuhcoatl's Pyro Authority, ascended as the first Pyro Archon, and made a pact with Xiuhcoatl by splitting the eye used as Huitzilopochtli's control hub as to keep the peace between the dragons and humankind.
Several millenias passed, came the journey of our traveler. Natlan was in an all-out war against the Abyss, led by Gosoythoth. In the story's climax, Gosoythoth took the form of Xiuhcoatl by harvesting his leftover memories/conciousness in the ley lines. The traveler and Mavuika defeated Gosoythoth, and thus putting our noble sovereign to rest.
That's the end of Xiuhcoatl's story... for now...
Wowie that's a long-ass read😅 sorry if it's confusing to read instead. I tried my best😓
2. His Physical Appearance
We already have murals and the namecard of of his dragon form so I can't say much about it. (Why he looked similar to Nibelung is a whole another question.) But if you ask me how I imagine his human form... well... I imagine him to look... feminine.
"Radaedan are you a femboy liker-" jhdndnssjs I have proofs you know! You see, other confirmed Dragon Sovereigns have motherhood theming to them. Which makes sense, since they are the original rulers of the world, Teyvat's real "parents", in this post for more elaboration.
Also, we have to get his twin duality with his twin brother Kukulkan. Twins in mesoamerican cultures are considered holy. They represent duality of life, two halves of a whole, and it often manifested in their power, names, physical appearences, and/or gender. Take the Maya Hero Twins, Xbalanque and Hunahpu for example. The whole sun/moon aside, some experts speculate that Xbalanque's name has feminine connotation in it. In fact, there's a whole debate regarding the Xbalanque’s true gender. You can find it here. So, I like to imagine Kukulkan filling the masculine role, while Xiuhcoatl filled the feminine role.
And then there's this whole Tzitzimimeh and Huitzilopochtli. The Tzitzimimeh in the Aztec mythology could be described as star demons, devouring humans during bad time and such. But they are also protector of pregnant women, mothers, and children. One of the goddesses of these Tzitzimimeh is Coatlicue, mother of Huitzilopochtli, his sister the moon goddess Coyolxauhqui, and his brothers the star gods Centzon Huītznāuhtin. According to the legend, Coatlicue was impregnanted by unnatural mean, and thus was attacked by her daughter Coyolxauhqui and the Centzon. To protect his mother, Huitzilopochtli bursted from her womb already grown up and armored and defeated his sister and brothers. Considering his moon and stars theming (the creation of the Astral Assamblages, his namecard describe him as "awaiting beneath the moonlight", him probably aided in the moons construction) and him being the creator of the Huitzilopochtli to fight the Abyss (Abyss itself also has many stars and moon theming), it's safe to say that Xiuhcoatl is also based after Coatlicue. See this post regarding the Tzitzimimeh and Xiuhcoatl, though it's a little aged.
Now to the physical details... I imagine him to have long hair, having green feathers instead of ears like Kukulkan, and dressed with huipil, a common mesoamerican women clothing. During his prime, his human form would like to have elaborate hair-dos and lavishly colored huipilis, but when his mind and body degraded he would let his hair loose and his clothing more simpler and worn out. (Yk, Neuvillette treated his elaborate clothing as "inconvenient, but I must reflect my station", so I like to imagine that Xiuhcoatl genuinely enjoyed dressing up to the nine.)

[Not Aztec but Tlaxcaltec, but you get the idea. Source: Kamazots on Deviantart]

[Source: above;Daniel Parada, Mexicolore. Below; Wikipedia "Mestizo". The yellow boxed above and below is my personal favorite. It's so cute (why tf tumblr fuck the image's quality oh my God I'm so sorry guys)]

Like, do you see the vision.
"All that I see is that you just exposed yourself as a femboy liker-" ItS jUst mY pERsOnaL OPinIOn!!!😠😭
Alternatively, please see this absolutely amazing design by @kajenus ! They're so lovely, and my king is so handsome I want to cry😭 please do check it. They also have a theory that the Sovereigns look similar to the first generation of archons, and I agree. (Haha imagine if Xbalanque saw my Xiuhcoatl's human form and gets a heart attack because Xiuhcoatl looks similar to his mother.)
3. His Personality
Now here's the most fanficky territory (I digress, the previous one is😅) get ready to get brain aneurysm from my wacky interpretations.
From what we saw from the wq, it's obvious that he loved his kin and people deeply, no doubt about that. And his resilience, ingenuity, loyalty, such and such. Sooooooo, I only want to focus on his flaws and bad traits here. Namely: (parental) entitlement and the "saviour complex" mentality.
"Entitlement? Wtf are you talking radaedan" shhh listen first. You know how the Dragon civilization worshipped him so much, even when he was reduced to nothing but a walking corpse? Do you think that kind of behaviour sprouted out of nowhere? No, I think, intentionally or not, Xiuhcoatl nourished that behaviour.

Honestly, when I read this, I kinda got reminded of my mom😅 have you ever got into a fight with your parents, you're trying to sound logical and cool, and then they slapped you with, "I'm your parent, how dare you talk back to me like that!" Or even worse, when they pulled, "Oh, just wait until I'm dead, you're going to regret this!"
I think, for all Xiuhcoatl's love for his kin and his people, he felt entitled for them to love him back.
With all his motherhood theming, I think it would be deliciously angsty if he had that parental entitlement. Yeah, he suffered a lot. Yeah, he sacrificed a lot for his people. Yeah, he loved them so much. But... for them to love him back, they have to be completely obedient and always worshipful of him.
Maybe that was an exaggeration, but you know, even Kukulkan complained about it. Heck, it was one of his driving forces to steer his hope to humanity instead.
A Somewhat Strange "Person": Instead, this is what I believe — that we dragons are too powerful. We are a race imprisoned by force. The weak worship the strong, sons follow their fathers, peons serve their sovereigns. A Somewhat Strange "Person": Races that by nature pursue power are bound by the very power that all too clearly orders their societies. A Somewhat Strange "Person": After the Pyro Dragon's [Xiuhcoatl] faked death, all that the descendants of the ancients knew was to kowtow before the throne, watching our civilization deteriorate by the day, marching inexorably towards decline. - "Moment of Awakening" Quest
Xiuhcoatl was the Sovereign. He was the top of the Dragon Society. Yet, he let this "weakness" of the dragon societies grew. The weak followed the strong. Then Xiuhcoatl was the strongest among them. And he wanted them to follow him without question.
You know, there's a term in feminist theory called "benevolent patriarchy". The term refers to a system that oppressed women while insisting they did it to protect women. The "strong" men occupied all important works in society and limit women's opportunities because women are more "fragile/special/in need for special condition". "It's a really hard work, so you know, you women have it pretth lucky because you don't need to lift a finger!" It's almost parental in its opression. Women are helpless children who must be protected by their parents (men), so it is natural that they don't have voice, sort of.
For the dragon society's case, it goes like this; Xiuhcoatl (and the dragon elites) was the "strong man". He mulled and beated himself to death to search a way for his kin to survive. It's a hard work, and it really is a mercy for the dragonborns that their Sovereign took the burden as his and his alone. They didn't need to think for themselves, needed not to seek the path for themselves, because everything had been decided by their "benevolent" Lord. So really, all they needed to do is just listen to him and do as he says.
Father did everything for them, so they better listen to his orders.
And where does it get them? A fractured society, obsessed to be the most strong and most loyal to their dying Sovereign. Who worshipped the zombie king in his altar instead of unifying their forces and seek the solution by themselves.
This heavily tied to Xiuhcoatl's another flaw (that I perceived); his "Savior Complex".
This is not the first time a lore character showcased that complex. I've mentioned once that the Narzissenkreuz questline foreshadowed Natlan. I want to elaborate more; I think Xiuhcoatl have many similarities with Rene de Petrichor.
Both are geniuses and having obsession to save everyone using the collective sea of conciousness. They did love their people/loved ones, but that love was twisted through their "I-gotta-fix-this-alone-without-anyone's-help". Rene's savior complex stemmed from his childhood. He often played the "dragon" to Alain's "knight". In a way, all the bullshit he did was a recreation of their childhood; Rene playing the part of the "evil dragon" so he could save everyone.
With Natlan’s heavy symbolism with stories... and how our Little One remarked during the final battle against the "evil dragon" of the 5.5 world quest (paraphrasing because I forgot to screenshot😭): "It's how the stories go; fighting the evil dragon in the end..." The connections couldn't be more obvious, isn't it?
Wowie this is a very long ass read. But tl;dr: I think Xiuhcoatl was a fatherly person, but too much for his own and his people's good, bordering on savior complex. He did love them, but that love mean imposing the burden of the dragon society upon himself without letting his people help him or discuss any alternate solutions with them. A self-made tragedy, in a way.
He was also a femboy- HUH WHO SAID THAT WHAT BLASPHEMY DIFAMATION OFF YOU GO TO JAIL-
Thanks for the ask! Hope this fit your intended question! Have a nice day/night wherever you are!

Transformers Dimension
Since Transformers: Animated would make its appearance in the KNS verse, I would like to point out some things in the story.
Septron is a planet next to Cybertron and Velocitron where ten tribes of Transformers live harmoniously alongside the elements, abundantely robotic planet where nature and machine live harmoniously as equals. When the war happened, sure many of the Septronians joined the factions but there is one group of Septronians who formed a mismatched group led by a mysterious Stygian named Rogue, but for the space humans, Autobots and Decepticons, he was nicknamed The Phantom due to his tribe being associated with the supernatural.
His group compose of Autobots, Neutrals and even Decepticons who chose to become renegades when they see the wrongs of their factions. Because of their members, they were crudely called The Strays.
They were 'exiled' to Earth and for the past fifty years, they've learned everything from the culture and language of the humans. Also, they planned to end the war when the AllSpark finds itself on the planet and that long-lost enemies thought to be dead are felt lurking on Earth.
Anyway, here are the Septronian Tribes:-
Stygians - The Stygians of Styx are a very mysterious tribe that kept themselves secretive in the shadows. Their led by a Shadowlord and worship the Forger (robot god) of Death, Doomscythe alongside their cousin tribe, the Vulpians and the Soulwalkers. Their logo is a sickle forming a question mark.
Kemonoids - Descendants of the fierce Predacona that take the form of animals with some being triple changers. They are led by a Beastlord that was Hellburst and worship the Forger of Animals, Lionheart Lux, alongside the Thunderians and Tepesites. Their logo is a roaring beast head.
Aquarians - An all-female tribe of water dwellers who were nearly wiped out by Transformer Hunters, leaving a few survivors scattered across the tribes, later led by Sealord Razortooth. They worship the Forger of Water, Otohime Lux. Their logo is a shark.
Arborians - A tree-dwelling tribe that dwells in the jungles of Arbora. They are equipped with very long retractable tails and great swiftness of monkeys. They, alongside the elusive Cloakers, worship the Jungle Forger, Tarzan Lux, and are led by a Treelord. Their logo is a tree.
Florians - An all-male tribe of plant-bending bots that live in the swamplands of Arbora and are said to deal in Dark Arcane (black magic in Cybertronian term). They worship the Swamp Forger, Mossblight, and are led by a Swamplord, formerly Quickstrike. Their logo is a leaf.
Scraplanders - Scraplanders are a barbarian tribe, living with the berserkers, the Ravagers and the underground-dwelling Subterrans. They have a post-apocalyptic appearance and lifestyle as well as making anything out of scraps and are led by Scraplord Onehand. They, with the Ravagers and Subterrans, worship the Forger of Deserts, Rampage. Their logo is a cross arms of a wrench and sword.
Septronian Seekers - Living on the floating continent of Stormasphere with the Stormites, what makes them different from Cybertronian Seekers is that they are led by a Skylord and some are said to have acidic venom in their claws, weapons and fangs. They worship the Serpent Forger, Ophiuca Lux, and their logo is a winged snake.
Stormites - Airbending robots who enjoy most of their time flying. Despite their aerial abilities, their alt modes are practically land vehicles or land animals mostly. They worship the Forger of Storms, Typhoonus, and are led by a Stormlord. Their logo is a tornado.
Pyronians - A tribe of very fiery, firebending and fire-powered robots that live on the volcanic land of Pyron. They are led by Flamelord Infernus, worship the Forger of Fire, Agni Lux, and their logo is a fire.
Arcticans - A tribe of snowy white robots with icy powers and immunity to the harsh cold temperatures of Arctica. They, with the therianthropic Robotropes, worship the Wolf Forger, Howlback, and are led by Blizzardlord Blizzardbane. Their logo is a snowflake.
Robotropes - Robots that can turn into werebeasts under a full moon or at will. Their bite, just like the Tepesites, can turn any bot, including an organic being, into a were-bot. They are led by a Werelord and their logo is a howling beast.
Tepesites - Vampiric robots with some of their alt modes being vampire bats and a bite from them can turn any bot, including an organic, into a vamp-bot. They are led by a Bloodlord and their logo is an evil eye.
Thunderians - An electricfying tribe of lightning-powered and lightning-bending bots led by Thunderlord Lightningrod and his mate, Sparkrod. Their logo is a thunderbolt.
Vulpians - Evolved turbofoxes whose alt modes are foxes and like the mythical kitsunes, they have supernatural powers. They are led by Foxlord Tailflame and their logo is a fox.
Subterrans - A tribe of eartbending, underground dwelling robots who enjoy digging their way through the ground the fighting. They are led by Stonelord Blindspot and her mate, Sonicrock. Their logo is a rock.
Ravagers - A tribe of berserkers who are said to wear the armor plates and even organic bones of their enemies as armor, weapons and trophies. They are led by a Desertlord namely called the Ravager King, who wore the skulls of every Transformer Hunters and armor plates of a fleet of Decepticons.
Cloakers - Transformers who can blend into their surroundings and turn invisible like chameleons. They are led by Mirrorlord Discordia and their logo are lights.
Arcanians - Transformers who are experts in casting arcane (Cybertronian term for magic) and are said to have strange anomalies. They are led by Magiclord Mephisto and his mate, Lilith, and their logo is a pentagram.
Soulwalkers - A very elusive tribe of ghostly-looking robots that can teleport in a wink of an eye. It is said that when they sleep, they turn into organic beings based on the planet they are on. It is believed that Soulstone mastered their soulwalking to trick his way into organic civilizations before roboticizing the entire planet into an Energon-mining planet like what he did to the other 80 planets, that are not overrun by zombots (robot zombies). They are led by a Ghostlord and their logo is a spirit.

💤
When you live long enough to be considered ancient, dreams rarely tend to appear after years of suppression and practiced control over one's subconscious.
...at least, that is what Apep would claim. That they were below such transient things like dreams.
Apep knew damn well that she was fooling nobody. Even with the apocalypse raging through her body, they still dreamed. Their entire being was held together by this dream, their children crying out as they were shattered within their mother's world.
And now that her children have found peace and the tumor of Abyssal Knowledge had been purged, Apep noticed that she had begun to dream of more... Personal things.
-
Two hatchlings were running in a field, one verdant and one vermilion. The two seemed to be playing a game of chase while under the warm sun.
"No fair! Big brother has wings to fly, and keeps taunting me with it! I demand a rematch!" The green hued one hissed, much to the amusement of the red dragon.
"Well, that's cause I'm the Flamelord! I will one day command the flames like our Dam and soar the skies wreathed in fire!" he guffawed.
"But that's no fair! I took after our Sire, and was not gifted the ability to fly like you...," a younger Apep sulked. The red dragon faltered slightly, landing gently onto the lush field of flowers to be face to face with his sibling.
"Apep, don't be upset! It just means that in the future, I will simply carry you on my back when I grow as big as Dam and Sire! So don't be jealous, dear sister. After all, we are brethren, and destined to be the greatest Sovereigns of Pyro and Dendro. We'll make the world flourish with abundance, and make sure every living being will never go hungry again!"
"Xiuhcoatl, is that a promise?"
"Obviously!"
Oh, my brother by bond and blood. Always so eager and passionate with his ideals and promises. Can't you see how much you burn? Can't you see how you walk upon the path that leads to your own destruction?
Can't you see how naive you have become?
-
The dream began to warp. The skies bled black and red, and the stars began to dim as shattered pieces of the moon adorned the heavens. The hatchlings were no longer small, instead now there were two Sovereigns. And before them both stood Nibelung, talons folded neatly in front of Him as he gazed into the distance.
"-too many casualties. My king, we need to come to an agreement. Apep's territory is nothing but sand and dust, and many have retreated to the corrupting isles beneath the soil to escape this slaughter," the Pyro Sovereign argued, knowing that his appeals fell upon deaf ears.
"Xiuhcoatl, are you suggesting we surrender? That we simply roll over and let these intruders take what is ours!? This is a war we must win at any cost!"
The roar of Nibelung caused the Sovereign of Pyro and Dendro to flinch. Xiuhcoatl looked towards his little sister, silently pleading for them to support him.
Apep stood silently, daring not to look her brother in the eye. "My territory is nothing but hostile and unviable. The Divine Nail had made it nigh impossible for anything substantial to grow. This isn't some war where negotiations will ever be made. This is the annihilation of our people. Yes, sacrifices must be made, but that is so we can survive to see the next sunrise."
Apep had sounded cold and hollow that day. The Sovereign lost everything she had built, everything that she made as their legacy.
"Apep, please, be reasonable-"
"You expect me to bow before the whims of our killers!? Xiuhcoatl, those false gods, those wretched spawn of the Usurper, they will destroy and take everything! At this point, your suggestion is as good as saying we kill ourselves!"
The Pyro Sovereign quieted, the harsh truth of Apep's words causing him to falter. "Xiuhcoatl, your heart bleeds too much for others. You have to understand some promises cannot be fulfilled. It's a fool's endeavor, and if you cannot agree, your silence is preferable than your stupid nonsense."
-
A letter written, read, and held in desperation one clear night. A fire slowly extinguishing as a once emerald scaled serpent ran outside.
"XIUHCOATL! WHERE ARE YOU? XIUHCOATL!?"
-
Apep was met by a mass of charred remains, Abyssal Rot already making the corpse unrecognizable. "No. No, no, no."
A single scale, unblemished and stuck deep into the ground confirmed Apep's fears.
Xiuhcoatl had killed himself. And it was all their fault.
.
.
.
Apep finally awoke, knowing that the dream they had was a memory. Sighing, they sat up. "...foolish. he would be laughing if he saw me now," they grumbled, looking out the window as sunlight creeped into their home in Sumeru City. The chatter of students and merchants hawking their wares gave the scene a more vibrant and lively tone, one that made Apep's hardened heart soften ever so slightly.
"...but I am beginning to understand why you loved humanity. I hope wherever you are now, you are happy that your silly promise remains upheld."

References
Tépactl, blade used for ritualistic sacrifices to venerate the gods in Mexica tribes. It is also associated in the Aztec calendar the day March 20, which is coincidentally the first day of spring
Macuahitl, a weapon mostly associated with the Jaguar warriors, preceded the Mexica. Tools made of obsidian fragments were used by some of the earliest Mesoamerican groups. It was a club-like weapon made of wood with edges inlaid with obsidian, a volcanic glass, on each side.
(I used mostly number 2 as reference)

Quetzalcóatl, also well known as the Feathered Serpent, yes, I know Genshit used Xiuhcōātl or also called the Turquoise Serpent. I decided to draw sort of a parallel, Eztli is not Xiuhcoatl (Genshit's), but he is a reincarnation, just how Neuvillette is a reincarnation to the og Hydro dragon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rambling time
I used WAY more references but these were the most... important ig, also, yes I am Mexican but I am not that connected to my history, I really mostly created Eztli to nudge myself to learn more about my culture. And honestly, most of Natlan gave me a weird vibe, its... too modern...? not that I expected them to be in tribal clothing ofc, it's just weird to see the women with crop tops and FUCKING ORORON WITH JEANS
It's just personal preference tho, I did make Eztli sort of more leaning on post conquista with the pants and metal armor... but also mixed more ancient armor, I hope I did a sort of good job and I'm open to advice!
...
Also... I'm kinda conflicted with the game, I love it, it's fun for me, but with all that's happening it's just... I don't even know how to write it! I want to separate it from everything that's happening, but it's just so jarring, and I enjoy the characters but their designs make me feel weird, maybe its the fact that I have a positive view of the game since I started playing for someone I love and only continued because I got so attached to it, and I cannot pick up another game and I don't know why
I don't think I like Natlan as much as I hoped, but whatever that's enough whining from me, I think I'll continue until I get the characters I want and ditch the game
Maybe I'll continue making art of Neuvillette and Eztli, and maybe other characters they're genuinely so enjoyable for me
