i love broadcasting i love working sound and graphics!!! cameras and teleprompter are boring, directing and anchoring are ok… but i love sound and graphics :)))))
#theres been an echo for the sound and we finally figured out why!!#one of the camera mics was on when its only supposed to be a back up#the sound shit looks kind of intimidating but its really easy and i already knew a little bit#i want to be on really good terms with the teacher/supervisor for broadcasting#because theres a field trip to a movie studio and i reaaaaaally want to go#but he already calls me an honorary digital video production 2 student because. my choir director is holding me hostage#oh and speaking of choir. i am. possibly singing a solo for an a capella competition#its an igorot (indigenous filipino group) folk song

I love the pandanggo sa ilaw, (fandango with lights/in the light). My lolo used to talk about how people would dance in their streets in calapan, and i guess he and my grandmother would bring their own candles as they looked on. Crocheted a portrait based on the dance.
#some people in the notes are saying the initial video are of malaysians dancing not filipinos#the first thing i noticed watching the video was that the music was unfamiliar#grew up listening to folk songs and dances and filipino dance music is much more upbeat and use certain instruments especially for when the#dance is for somethin as classic as the tinikling#the rhythm is completely different from the typical folk songs used for tinikling#i figured maybe this is just a niche song ive never heard of the performance is wonderful either way#mangunatip#tinikling#pandanggo sa ilaw

Folk Literature
We got printouts back in my senior high school days from the "Philippine Literature Resource Book". So, I'll be dropping the tidbits here:
Types of Philippine Folk Literature
Folk Speech
Folk Songs
Folk Narratives
●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・
FOLK SPEECH - aka. bugtong (in Tagalog) and Tigmu (in Cebuano). They can be talinghaga (making use of metaphor to describe intended objects), ambahan (used to express everyday experience composing of 7 syllables in a line), or tanaga (7 syllable quatrain and a definite answer) (Santiago, 2011).
●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・
FOLK SONGS - short verses revealing ancient Filipino cultures that usually center around solation, happiness, uncertainty, and love. The earliest songs appeared during the pre-Spanish era (Kahayon & Zuleta, 2000).
Matud Nila (Lacia, et al, 2003)
Usahay (Region VII: Central Visayas)
Atin Cu PungSingsing (Region III: Central Luzon; Capampangan Folk Song)
These are other folk songs that were commonly sung in our childhood days.
Si Pilemon
Pamulinawen
ManangBiday
Dadansoy
Sarong Banggi
Bahay Kubo

●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●・
FOLK NARRATIVES - are classified into three: Myth (example: Ifugao Creation; Why the B'laans Are Ignorant), Legend (The Durian Legend; Mindanao: The Origin of Its Name; The Origin of the World), and Folk Epic.
Ulaging (A Bukidnon Epic) - The term Ulaging originated from the root word legena which means voice. An epic that is intended to be sung (Saway-Llesis, 2003) and performed without the accompaniment of any musical instrument (Brandeis, 2008). The chanting of the epic is sacred which is why it cannot be done without a ritual called pamada (Saway-Llesis, 2003). This epic is composed of many episodes sung during nighttime lasting for several hours or even several nights.
Darangan (A Maranao Epic) - is one of the Philippines' longest epic telling of the history and culture of its people. It was proclaimed a "masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity" by UNESCO (Philippine Star, Dec 13, 2005).
The Guman of Dumalinao
The Maiden of Buhong Sky
The Epic of Labao Donggon

Clémentine the prettiest bell ringer ❤🔔🐐
They're simply delightful! Clémentine's design feels like a royal fairy tale with a touch of circus elements. The little goat-like features, such as the hook nose, are an added charm. The silver eyes and Filipino accent are a bonus. As for Clémentine's backstory, they are the child of an unnamed father who was a doll maker and a baroness named Enaïs. Furthermore, a baron was present in their life, but he was unfortunately beheaded. In short, Clémentine's history is fascinating.
Colentine🐰🐐
(Cole x Clémentine)
God, they are just so perfect for each other: The Storyteller and Bell Ringer. Their sweet, harmonious relationship is a true delight! Yaelokre's art style and storytelling abilities are truly remarkable, and their fandom has produced some truly unique and beautiful OCs. Despite some bad elements in any fandom, we shouldn't let that spoil our love for a show, series, songs, or anything else. Even with the bad, there is still so much good to focus and enjoy.
Certain songs remind me of Moominvalley, particularly the "Snufmin" ship between Snufkin and Moomintroll. The vibe feels similar, cozy and sweet, and it brings me back to my childhood watching the series and enjoying fanfiction. When I listened to "Cole's Response 2/12/2024", it reminded me of watching Moominvalley compilations in 2019, specifically the sweet moments shared by Snufkin and Moomintroll. I really appreciate Yaelokre's art and storytelling, especially "Colentine". Their style truly captures the warmth and charm of Folk Fantasy.

It's time.
Pick a song based on an extremely bad description! This week's theme is folk music (but more global folk and less Joan Baez. Nothing against Joan Baez; this just isn't that).
At the end of the week, I will make a playlist out of all songs on the poll, in order from least votes to most votes. If you are curious about a song and don't want to wait a week, shoot me an ask and I will tell you the name/artist of the song. If you want to be reminded when the playlist drops, leave a comment or put it in the tags, and I will tag you when it's over and done with.
And please reblog! More reblogs = more votes = a more chaotic playlist, and isn't that always the point?
#polls#music#folk music#i have discovered so much cool stuff this time by the way#also some really interesting south american goth which didn't work out for thematic reasons#but who knows where these will go in the future#i was gonna do just ambient for all december and here we are and i'm listening to black metal field songs#which slap by the way i can't stress that enough

Honestly, I hc that at the start Will and Nico's relationship was definitely a push and pull and I want somebody to like make art of them as the people in the Filipino folk song..?
"Pasayawa ko day" which is basically what I think would be how they acted and at the end when Nico finally accepted him he thinks he wasn't so bad
( Leo and Calypso's relationship definitely should be portrayed as this song as I can't for the life of me ship them together and the only reason Calypso even likes Leo was bc he saved her and that's basically the 5 pesos they mentioned in the song)
#will solace#solangelo#nico di angelo#solangelo headcanon#leo valdez#calypso#caleo#this is anti...? I think#pjo fandom#yes i am#Filipino#and yes this is why made this shitpost#also was going to add a pic but i couldnt find a nice one ;(

What music do you like?
Any specific genre?
Any niche music that you'd recommend or think is underrated?
ooh, i listen to a lot of different genres at different times, so this answer might differ every other month HAHHA but for a very long time i've been a big fan of music that helps calm down my noisy brain -- usually folk/acoustic instrumentals! will never not love those
recently, i've been listening to a lot of hiatus kaiyote, alan gogoll, the oh hellos (their four winds albums are great and mean a lot to me), laufey, takashi kokubo (i always listen to their albums to sleep), and stray kids!
i'm also a fan of local filipino artists UDD and munimuni :)
and some other long-time favorites i always come back to are park bird, elephant gym, plini, erutan, haruno, khai dreams, again&again, ichiko aoba, and a bit of radiohead since my partner axl (who also makes music!! he's made all the music for my animations so far) is a really big fan of them HAHA i enjoy A Moon Shaped Pool the most out of their albums because it makes me feel so sad
for stuff i feel is underrated, i personally think more people should listen to elephant gym and alan gogoll!! genuinely surprised their music hasnt reached over a million monthly streams on spotify yet, they're very pleasant listening experiences 🐛 my earworms (side note i feel like axl has better answers for niche music since he seems to always find really good hole-in-the-wall artists, he's positively influenced the range of music i listen to since before uni! we were in a high school band back then HAHA)
also i listen to ABBA with my dad a lot! their songs and documentaries play every car ride we have so i know every song at this point...but their songs are all bangers so its ok (my favorites voulez-vous and gimme gimme gimme)
these are all off the top of my head so i might've forgotten other ones!! maybe if another music ask comes out next time i'll spew out another bajillion HAHA thank you for asking and for reading this block of text :) !!!

Im gonna need your like, whole musical rec list, bc literally every song you have posted has not flopped once, give me your faves i need to eat them
OUGHHH YOUVE UNLOCKED THE BEAST ARGSHHFHJDF....
in the interest of making this both easily accessible but not stretching the dashboard, im embedding bandcamp links when i can, otherwise linking to youtube when unavailable
in no particular order, inclusion based mostly on what im still actively into LMAO but also just things you should give a go at least once:
list of artist recommendations
zeal and ardor: described as a mix of african-american spirituals and black metal. try devil is fine, you aint coming back, wake of a nation or church burns
bloodywood: indian folk metal, literally nobody is doing it like them. recently featured in monkey man (2024), try chakh le, yaad or dana dan
stromae: if youve never heard any of his songs WHAT ARE YOU DOING..... incredible lyricist, described as a blend of hip hop/electronic. papaoutai made the rounds on tumblr a while back, but you should also try santé and l'enfer
alamat: pinoy pop. a youtube commenter described them as sounding like 2nd gen kpop which probably also explains why i took a shine to them LMAO, notable for the amount of filipino culture on display and the diversity thereof (singing in different languages, themes). first heard them thru kasmala either here or on twitter lmao, try aswang or maharani
andy bull: alt-pop. a lot of poppy and upbeat songs with a melancholic undertone imo. an australian artist, try it's all connected or keep on running
cosmo sheldrake: electronic, wikipedia also lists him as folktronica and baroque pop. you may have heard the song come along on an apple ad - hes known for sampling sounds from nature. pliocene for example features sounds from endangered ecosystems.
if you like cosmo sheldrake, you might like hidden orchestra (electronica, ambient). also making use of field recordings, i really love the archipelago mixtape but its a hard sell at about an hour lmao. if you like the following song then i implore you to give it a go
son lux: experimental, you may have heard from them in the entire soundtrack for everything everywhere all at once (!!!!!). try dangerous, dream state (brighter night) or live another life.
ammar 808: electronic/world fusion, also behind bargou 08 (folk rock you should also listen to). i just cant get ain essouda out of my head, but i also love geeta duniki
miyavi: j-rock, used to be a visual kei artist. these days he might be known more for anime openings like flashback (kokkoku) or other side (id:invaded), or for work like snakes in arcane (or actually inspiring and voicing a character in it), but ive always been partial to his early work like sukkyanen myv or ashita, genki ni naare
songs/albums
'threads' album by now, now (indie rock).
'dream to make believe' or 'what to do when you are dead' by armor for sleep (rock, emo). here's the truth about heaven from the latter album
i already posted about it but denzel curry's 13lood 1n + 13lood out mixx (rap, trap) is extremely good
the guilty gear soundtracks and im so serious im not fucking joking. different kinds of rock and metal and all sorts of influences put in, a genuine labor of love. xrd and earlier games are mainly instrumental with some vocal tracks (try give me a break or big blast sonic), while strive pretty much always includes vocals (of course i need to rec rock parade, but also try requiem. its genuinely hard for me to pick and choose lmao)
not an album and not an artist
coke studio pakistan and coke studio bangla knocking it out of the fucking park, im particularly a fan of harkalay and kotha koiyo na. you could try the other coke studios too (tamil, india, etc)
triple j like a version is when the radio station triple j brings in artists and has them do a cover of a song (artists choice). i liked denzel curry's cover of bulls on parade and flume's shooting stars (video for this one is incredible, man had a vision you just have to stick it out), but you get a lot of interesting interpretations like the wombats' running up that hill, gordi's in the end or, infamously. the wiggles' elephant
ive DEFINITELY missed out some, but thats what my music tag is for LMAO i hope someone discovers something they like here!!!!
#ive tried to include a mix of songs that covers their range..#includes the ones i like but ALSO is easiest on newcomers#particularly with the metal bands LMAO#eg church burns isnt really my favorite on the album but i remember it being the song i started with#specifically because someone in the reviews said it would be the easiest to start with. and they were right#also miyavi HAD to be here ive been a fan since GRADE SCHOOL#if ive recommended an album and not the artist its probably because im not a huge fan of their other stuff LMAO either cos#theyve moved away from what ive recommended stylistically (armor for sleep or now now)#or i havent gotten to a lot of the other stuff/its not my thing (denzel curry. sorry)#i liked the song ricky but a lot of the discography just isnt what i listen to rip#honestly it was so hard to choose AHSDUSDF i tried to choose artists that i really think others should listen to#but yeah obviously some are just there because. /i/ like them lol#wait not me reading the ask properly again and seeing that the focus was MY faves ASHDSDFSDHFBSDf#i got too excited at the prospect of recommending music#sonochinosodomy#ask#Bandcamp#music#obviously this couldnt be Everything... but ive done my best#to pare it down.............#long post

Tf2's universe is known for having some very ludicrous alternate hidtory. What's some examples of that for the Philippines (namely as it is relevant to Trapper?)?
this was difficult to think about 🤔 because the lore of the tf2 universe is so random and wacky.
how the hell did shakespeare invent rocket jumping before abraham lincoln invented the stairs?? what was amelia earhart doing with a hotdog costume and a large supply of honey??? WHY WAS NIKOLA TESLA AND ABRAHAM LINCOLN PARTICIPATING IN THE GRAVEL WARS AS MERCENARIES??
the alternate history in tf2 does not make any fucking sense and i love it
so here's my take on the tf2 filipino history:
- Jose Rizal actually was Jack the Ripper in this universe. Not willingly, he just had a Jekyll and Hyde situation going on. No one suspected him because he was widely known as a pacifist that pushed for anti-violence
- He got chased down by Sherlock Holmes for it. Kinda like Light and L from Death Note. This started the rumors that Sherlock was Jose Rizal's secret 10th lover because what straight man would be that obsessed with chasing after another man 🤨
- Tinikling is a folk dance where two people tap and beat bamboo poles against each other while someone danced on it without getting their feet caught. One day, someone fumbled the dance and broke their ankle from getting their foot stuck in the bamboos. This is what lead to the invention of bear traps
- Filipinos are so competitive with singing that they would kill anyone who sang 'My Way' incorrectly or if they're off-key. They do not fuck around on karaoke nights !!!
- Speaking of competitive singing, you know how filipino karaoke machines can rate your singing on a scale of 1-100? the machines are programmed to rate anyone's singing by filipino standards. So if you're non filipino and you test your voice on the machine, chances are you won't even get a score past twenty.
- The guy who invented it was probably the one who started the 'My Way' purge cause the machine will automatically self destruct if you don't get a minimum score of 75 when you sing the song
- Trapper's grandpa died from the explosion when he scored a 73
#tf2#tf2 lore#this was so stupid#tf2 lore is like a ten year old writing an essay on world history and did not understand the assignment#i hope i captured that energy with this one

8, 11, 16, 19, for the trek asks? 💖
<3333 heyyy!!!!
8. are you a nepo baby? (has trekkie parents/uncles/siblings)
no i am not actually! my family doesn't know anything about it really, i started watching it on a whim! :)
11. do you have any songs that you associate with star trek characters?
yes !!! @trillscienceofficer introduced me to the beths and chappell roan for b'elanna and i think about her every time i listen to them. i also really like son of a preacher man for tuvok/t'pel...
there's a filipino folk song called katakataka (i listen to the eva eugenio version) that reminds me of sirella nd martok. i tend to think of worf a lot when i listen to old country songs... big bad john by jimmy dean im thinking of specifically cause of the lyrics but also just like the steeldrivers and other country artists have this earnest vibe that i think fit him. :) hank williams singing about the country... old soul worf vibes
andd also corny but oh no! by marina... and brutal by olivia rodrigo are very b'elanna and seven songs to me
16. your favourite ship?
i forgot to mention in the first ask but actually i'm a big fan of k'ehleyr and worf they had a lot of tension (the good and bad kind) that i found sooo compelling fr... the shared history... the arguments... the yearning.... the loud silence!!!!! oughhh. just the- worf wanting to be with someone who understands his background in the way she can, who doesn't see him as lesser for being in starfleet, but then also holding her up to the same standards other people hold him up to- we have to do this the perfect klingon way or this is wrong etc.
and k'ehleyr trying to discern after they sleep together whether he wants her or wants to be understood or wants do the honorable thing and marry her despite what he might feel... but then also not really feeling totally okay with herself and her identity, and what being with worf, who embraces that stuff to a fault, would mean for herself and eventually for alexander. i thought that the dynamic was so engaging and i liked seeing what a relationship looked like outside of (? but not totally) human convention the blood on the palm scene? slayyeddd
19. share a headcanon!
hmmm i think vulcans think it's polite to look away when someone (vulcan, this might be impractical with other races) is displaying an emotion really overtly! crying or laughing maybe... i think if someone was going into pon farr and getting mad i'd try to leave or at least look away, it must be uncomfortable to see on display like that!
#diary#vulcan voice discomfort is illogical#but doesnt it seem like they would be awkward about it? lol

"When Alamat officially debuted in February 2021, the group also released its self-written debut anthem kbye, which left many people flabbergasted. The new track is in a mix of seven local languages—Tagalog, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Bicolano, Waray-Waray, Hiligaynon, and Bisaya. According to Ninuno Media, Alamat’s official music label, the incorporation of different languages into the song is a reflection of the group’s commitment to multilingualism. Moreover, the seven local languages reflect the member’s native language and ethnicity.
"For instance, Taneo is from Kalinga, where Ilocano is mostly spoken. Mo, despite having Black-American blood, hails from Zambales where Tagalog and Ilocano are among the dominant languages people use. Jao can speak Kapampangan as a native resident of Pampanga; Tomas represents the Bicolano; Alas is a Bisaya from Mindanao; and R-ji embodies a Waray person of Eastern Samar.
"The song captures the universality of heartbreak and of being ghosted while fusing traditional music with a hip-hop sound. True to its mission of championing the local culture, Alamat also incorporates the traditional sound of kulintang and the rhythm pattern of tinikling, a prominent folk dance in the country. The official music video of the song also showcases some of the defining features of Filipino culture: native prints in their streetwear, the appearance of baybayin, and a traditional jeepney.
"Three months after the release of ‘kbye,’ the single already reached 1M plays, enough for the group to secure a spot in the growing P-pop industry."

off the air with bee 🐈🫀❣️🧣🌀
hi lalies! today we had our wasia episode! i am very passionate about wasian music, i find that it really encapsulates so many emotions and feelings of living. i think a lot about how a common theme of wasian art is a sense of non-belonging or internalized strife with oneself, and i feel that there is a correlation between such themes and the upbringing of having parents of mixed races. i must say, i am not wasian! everything i know is through my own witness, readings, analysis, and hearing folks talk about having such an upbringing.
throughout the broadcast we referred to the primary document: The Federation of Wasia. this is such a crucial document in my life, i refer to it at least once a day lol. it’s totally silly and unserious but it is also so serious to me! it’s definitely a favorite social media post of mine. Credit to @/wasiaupdates on twitter 🕊️ the first section of music was all artists from the federation. Shoutout to joseph gordon levitt tbh..
the first song we played today was “Your Best American Girl” by Mitski, classic wasian anthem! i remember when i went to her Laurel Hell tour in 2022 somebody held this up while she sang it live lol. i understand the sentiment cuz this one is for the ppl of color.. but we must remember mitski is wasian so… mixed folks can also sing. actually i think they should be singing the loudest! hehehehe
another notable wasian concert i went to was JAPANESE BREAKFAST! i love michelle so much and i’m so excited for her upcoming album. she played ALL of my favorites: kokomo, IN, heft (fell to my knees and cried), and the body is a blade! that was so fun :3 i went for my 19th bday lol
also i must acknowledge this: WE MEANT TO PLAY LAUFEY. we ran out of time with the broadcast today so we did end with wasian anthem The Perfect Pair by Beabadoobee. but Laufey was next i swear!!! we had queued bewitched… i’ll link it here for folks to listen in. another wasian who was queued but unfortunately not played was Haley Heynderickx! love her bad, my filipino queen! we queued Foxglove from her upcoming album Seed of a Seed! she played the entire album at hardly strictly bluegrass festival in golden gate park… such a fun show!
that’s all i have for today folks! please dm us if you have any wasia insights. i’d love to hear more and learn more! ❤️❤️❤️ love you lalies 🐝

Novel drafts! Please check them out!
Note: This is copied from my main blog's pinned post, so don't worry about plagiarism!
--
What’s up folks, I just reblogged one of my really old posts about trying to get people to read my novel drafts. But here’s a shiny new one so I can pin this to the front!
So I originally posted these works on Inkitt and Inkshares, but Inkitt is most likely a scam that is often described as “a shittier version of Wattpad.” Inkshares is POSSIBLY a scam, but also an extremely new and experimental website even if it wasn’t, so I decided to move these drafts to Wattpad in hopes that a more established website had more people to read them.
Moonflowers is in-progress and The Crocodile God is completed, but I’ll just let people know that both “Moonflowers” and “The Crocodile God” are built on a LOT of outdated knowledge where Tagalogs/Filipinos all had tattoos and that Mayari is a Tagalog goddess. In “The Crocodile God,” I draw from a lot of Maori/Pacific mythology as well, and I’m not sure if I should keep that aspect in there.
If these ever make it to Draft 2 stage, there’s gonna be a lot of changes.
MOONFLOWERS summary (current link https://www.wattpad.com/story/324856549-moonflowers ): When Alima Song's parents vanish for no reason, she eventually thinks that they're dead, so she moves from her home in California to the tourist town of Cloncarrig, Ireland to get away from her grief. Aside from issues with the Fair Folk, she gets to know some Malachy Bray and his friends, finds a job, a house, and adopts a stray dog.
Unknown to most people, the dog is Ned Song, her cursed but very much living father. He and her mother Lucy have not been killed--they "just" got kidnapped and cursed by the Wild Hunt, who are also the ones that keep trailing Alima after she moved.
The Irish gods do not enjoy thinking about why a whole gang of fairies are messing with the Song family, but since their leader is a force of nature, they'll have to start improvising their help.
--
THE CROCODILE GOD summary (current link https://www.wattpad.com/story/324254621-the-crocodile-god ) - If a god loses his community, his rituals, and most records of his existence, what is left of him to call divine?
On a windy beach in California, Mirasol finds a shipwrecked man and takes him to the hospital. With no phone, no ID, and barely any clothes after the sea got done with him, the most information they can get is that his name is Haik, and for lack of better options, he's discharged to Mirasol's place.
Dark-skinned, covered in tattoos, and hailing from Australia, Haik is not the typical Filipino. He tells her stories of the Tagalogs' far past, a foreign and unknown country--and soon finds out that he is Haik the sea-god, constantly searching for his mortal wife, and they are both stuck in a loop of reincarnation after their whale-goddess daughter was stillborn.
Unfortunately, she also finds out that he's an undocumented immigrant.
--
IF ANYTHING ABOUT THESE DRAFTS CAN PIQUE YOUR INTEREST, PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO CHECK OUT THE DRAFTS AND LEAVE A COMMENT TO SHOW SUPPORT!!! I get so many people just saying my writing sounds cool EVERYWHERE ELSE BUT THE ACTUAL WEBSITE, and that’s not really getting my audience boost up.
