How CSOs & Corporates Can Help Girls Get Better Education
Tumblr media
A fundamental requirement that affects the future of economies all across the world is education. The improvement of society’s weakest segments can be seen in the intellectual health of people, especially female children. In India alone, there are around 200 million illiterate women, which is the highest in the world, despite the constitution providing free and compulsory education to all. The urban female literacy rate is 64%, whereas the rural literacy rate is just half which is 31%.
Raising Awareness:
CSOs can reach the most vulnerable section of the society because of their expertise in groundwork. Corporations and CSOs can partner to conduct awareness campaigns promoting the importance of girls’ education. Corporations can also leverage the Anaganwadis for spreading awareness of education for girls and their empowerment.
Addressing the infrastructure gap:
Given a proper policy direction, technology and infrastructure have the capability to bridge the ever widening chasm that exists. Urgent and immediate attention must be channeled to building infrastructure for education. CSR initiatives targeted at improving accessibility to infrastructure, can be designed and aligned with pre-existing government initiatives, or can be implemented separately as well. Companies can extend their resources and aid children from the underserved communities, by providing devices to access the internet, or can set up computer labs in partnership with CSOs and build an enabling environment for them. Telecom companies can look at rolling out economical internet plans, or can build network towers for increased internet connectivity.
Scholarship Programmes:
As part of their CSR, corporations can promote girl education by extending scholarships for girl children from the impoverished section of the society. Fiinovation recently partnered with DP World, and assisted them with efficient implementation of Pragati Scholarship programme which aimed at providing scholarships to girls from economically weaker families in Mundra, Gujarat.
Providing Free Education:
CSR programmes can be designed which focuses at providing free education to girls. Companies and CSO can partner to open up new schools within the reach of children and provide books, food, and facilities such as clean water, electricity, and furniture in schools.
Skill Development Workshops:
Education would be useless, if it is not followed by employment opportunities. Along with basic education, several skill development workshops can be organised. These workshops will develop their skills through various skill development classes and will make them financially independent. The skills should be such that they can provide them with career opportunities and let them establish their business and make them economically strong.

Tumblr media
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has gained an increasingly high profile in recent years. CSR can be defined as the ways in which a business seeks to align its values and behaviour with those of its various stakeholders. The stakeholders of the business include the employees, customers, suppliers, government, interest groups (such as environmental groups) and wider societal interests on whom the operations of the business may have an impact. There are various sector, where we can perform CSR activities, such as Health care and sanitation, Education and skill development, rural development, environment and ecology, gender equality, PM’s relief funds, National Heritage, Art, Culture, Sports Development, Eradication of hunger and poverty, women empowerment, Social business projects, Combating HIV/AIDS, Maternal and other diseases, improving maternal health, etc. There are top three sectors which are too popular such as education, healthcare and rural development. These three sectors received 50% of the total CSR and the remaining half is spread over 25 other sectors.

Ltd.(Fiinovation) working on Education, Health, Environment, livelihood and skills (Fiinovation practice areas) and provides its corporate social responsibility services to both corporations and civil society organizations (CSOs). According to him, they provide services such as field research studies, forging alliances, designing CSR policy to corporations, there are 60% corporations who perform CSR activities in education sectors and CSOs who are working in the education sector. Every year, fiinovation funding provides funding to the CSOs, and some of them CSOs 60% are working in the education sector. They have performed many fiinovation projects. Education is the most popular choice of sector for Corporate Social responsibility projects, who received 25% of the total CSR and the remaining half is divided into Healthcare and Rural Development (mean you can say, Education Sector- 25%, Healthcare sector- 15% and Rural development sector- 15% ). Education sector is more popular than other sectors because  the role of educational institutions to surpass the CSR for creating the best human capital and also explores the significance of CSR for promoting education and various initiatives of companies in the education sector as a corporate responsibility to expand education. According to Ms. Pooja deshmukh, Associate Professor and Research Coordinator, MGM Institute of Management, Aurangabad, India. She described three core models for education sector, which is helpful for putting CSR strategies that are follows:
“The core strategy in all three models involves the following steps:
• Identification of the area of intervention/involvement and the scope of work
• Identification of the beneficiaries[Demographic Profile – location, sex, category, age, type of school supported)
• Identification of the sources of fund to create a sustainable model (internal, external, donor engagement model)
• Designing of an appropriate/dedicated team with the right organizational structure to run the initiative [Finalize organizational structure, Recruit key personnel, Recruit Local people/volunteers]
• Identification of Key Stakeholders for the programs • Formulation of a strategic plan for the initiative [Defining objectives, Resource Mapping, Awareness Programmers, Trainings for internal/external/NGO members]
• Mechanism for Monitoring & Tracking Success [Financial Monitoring, Identification of KPOs, Impact Assessment at regular intervals, Internal Mechanisms to measure/report utilization of funds to the donors, Mechanisms/frequency of reporting to the donors involved, mechanisms for taking feedback from donors, Identification of templates/tools to be used to record report on initiatives]
• Ensuring sustainability and replicability of model”
The role of CSR in education is thus mitigating the skills gap with considerable experimentation, and learning-by-doing along the way. In this process, the affected individuals, companies, and society at large are likely to benefit.

Enhancing Student Well-Being: AIPL Housing, We Care Foundation, and Fiinovation CSR Unite for Project WaSH in Gurugram
In the bustling city of Gurugram, a significant initiative is underway to address a crucial aspect of student life: health and hygiene. AIPL Housing, in collaboration with We Care Foundation and Fiinovation CSR, has launched Project WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), aimed at transforming school health standards and enhancing the well-being of students. This partnership represents a commitment to not only improve facilities but also to instill a culture of hygiene and health awareness among young learners.
Tumblr media
The Need for Project WaSH
India has made considerable strides in improving access to education, yet challenges remain, particularly concerning the health and hygiene of students. Inadequate sanitation facilities and limited access to clean water can significantly affect children’s attendance, concentration, and overall academic performance. Recognizing these challenges, AIPL Housing, We Care Foundation, and Fiinovation have come together to implement Project WaSH, focusing on creating a healthier school environment.
Goals of Project WaSH
Project WaSH is designed with several key objectives:
Improving Infrastructure: The project aims to upgrade existing sanitation facilities in schools, ensuring that all students have access to clean and functional restrooms. This includes the installation of proper toilets, handwashing stations, and safe drinking water sources.
Health Education: Beyond infrastructure, Project WaSH emphasizes the importance of health education. Workshops and training sessions will be conducted to teach students about personal hygiene, sanitation practices, and the significance of clean environments. This knowledge is crucial for fostering lifelong habits that contribute to overall health.
Community Involvement: The success of Project WaSH relies on active participation from the local community, parents, and school authorities. The initiative encourages collaboration to create a supportive environment that values health and hygiene as a community priority.
Monitoring and Evaluation: To ensure the project’s effectiveness, regular assessments will be conducted to monitor improvements in health outcomes and school attendance. This data will help refine strategies and demonstrate the impact of the initiative.
Impact on Students and Communities
The implementation of Project WaSH is expected to yield substantial benefits for students and their communities. Improved sanitation facilities will reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, leading to better health and fewer absences from school. Moreover, as students learn the importance of hygiene, they will carry these lessons home, positively influencing family health practices.
AIPL Housing’s involvement underscores its commitment to corporate social responsibility, while We Care Foundation and Fiinovation bring their expertise in community engagement and social development. Together, these organizations are creating a sustainable model for school health that can be replicated in other regions.
A Bright Future Ahead
As Project WaSH progresses, the vision is clear: to foster an environment where students can thrive academically and physically. By addressing the critical issues of water, sanitation, and hygiene, this initiative not only enhances student well-being but also contributes to the broader goal of educational equity.
In conclusion, the collaboration between AIPL Housing, We Care Foundation, and Fiinovation represents a significant step toward transforming school health in Gurugram. Through Project WaSH, these organizations are paving the way for healthier futures, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and hygienic environment. With continued support and community involvement, the impact of this initiative will resonate for years to come, setting a precedent for health and hygiene in schools across India.
