#Eris. More like. Gayris

Yes!!! i did suspect that with his guards since he seemed really protective of them, though that could just be him caring about those he's close with - we don't know if eris has an "inner circle" the way rhys does (it'd be nice if he did have close friends but also extra potential angst™ if he didn't)
it also could add further explanation to any masks he has been wearing. as the most plausible heir to high lord, he and his relationships would be even more scrutinized (esp since the high lord would have to have children), so it makes sense that really all he would be looking at is potential power for kids, as any he'd have would be expected to be powerful... and he wouldn't really be looking for anything else. and he'd probably be pretty desperate to keep it from beron, given that beron already tortures eris for no particular reason despite the fact that eris acts like he's loyal to beron
and yes yes yes the parallel with mor!!! With both of them being gay!!! and also the possibility of that day on the border- we don't know much about it but i get the feeling that he did SOMETHING for mor- maybe he knew she was gay then and could empathize. and if they were mates; that could be part of the reason the cauldron had matched them up. i feel like since the idea of mates is heavily linked to creating powerful bloodlines, there wouldn't be any same sex mates - but the cauldron could come close... maybe create some sort of mutual beard type situation to cover both of them...
all this makes me wonder about the other of Beron's sons. are they like eris? if not, what made eris different? we know lucien was because he's actually helion's and his mother played a more substantial role in his upbringing and keeping him good. If gayris™, is his sexuality/a mlm relationship what made him break away from Beron's ideas/belifs? so many questions!!! my love for eris aside, the vanserra family is the most interesting dynamics in the books to me because there's quite the range of personalities and morals (or lack thereof, in the case of beron) and we don't really know why yet! i'm SO excited to read more about eris + the rest of them in upcoming books
sjm will never give us gayris (gay eris) but i want it
Hi! And YES, it would be a-ma-zing! Also I think it would create an interesting parallel with Mor, since both of them would have tried to get out of the engagement for exactly the same reason: because they would rather be with somebody from their same gender (this dynamic becomes even juicer if it turns out that the "Mor and Eris are mates" theory is right. It plays into the regecting bond theme and also really changes a lot of things we thought we knew about Eris, since it would explain why he keeps saying that Mor hasn't told the entire truth and that he lost something when the engagement was called off, as well as showing more about his values, since he hasn't pushed the Blood Duel. That would ALSO explain why he seems to identify Mor's scent easily and why he didn't touch her!).
Also, knowing how Beron and most of his sons are... After finding her he probably thought that he would potentially be the next one with nails in his body and lying next to another Court's border. Don't get me wrong, that would be an extremely selfish thing to do, but I can see his thought process being something similar.
This would also show more context about why he helped Lucien and refused to participate in Jesminda's murder, he would empathize with the forbidden nature of their romance. And now imagine that he falls for a lesser fae (maybe one of his soldiers? He obviously cares for them, it would fit if he meets somebody between their ranks). It would create a parallel with another character YET AGAIN.
Lastly, the scene in which he asks for Nesta's hand in marriage but afterwards doesn't seem to hold any real feelings for her could be argued that comes from Beron starting to wonder why his olden son isn't married yet and pressuring him to find somebody, so he is trying to find a bride to throw his father off his scent... Which, as sad that it is (in the sense of not being accepted for your sexuality and being forced to marry somebody you cannot love) it IS a pretty common trope, so I could see sarah using it.
ANYWAYS to be honest, I agree with you, I would be REALLY surprised if Sarah does end up revealing that Eris is attracted to males, but I think it would be very interesting and create some pretty complex dynamics in the Autumn Court and outside of it!
