So, I only know the German voiced Naruto Anime or the English fan translation for the manga on neatmanga. For my fanfic Roots I was discussing with a friend how Tobirama and Izuna are adressing their older brothers because Japanese ways of adressing other people are fucking confussing. I’m aware of niisan and anija but wasn’t quite sure about the differences and language-specific nuances. Those are often not fully translatable, I know. But finding an adequate substitute can be fun. My friend can read kana, so they told me what’s in the original manga.
Here is how neatmanga translated Izuna’s niisan.
Big Bro, and it’s fucking cute! :D I mean, Izuna is a cute little murder bean here after all. I found it so funny that I actually went with it in Roots. Just for the lolz we thought about a German equivalent (because I’m writing in German, my English’s just not good enough to write in English in the first place) and came up with Brudi (it comes from Bruder with simply means brother, in case you can’t speak German) which has kind of the same nuance as big bro. I just can’t express how funny this is to me to write this more or less serious fanfic and then Izuna is adressing Madara as Brudi because there’s also a certain sociolect attached to Brudi!
Now here I am, sitting over the final revisions for Roots, correcting Tobirama’s nii-san to anija and think about changing Big Bro to Brudi. I’m definitelly not sorry for this because language is too awesome to not toy with it in those ways :D I love to express characterization through the way people are adressing each other. Tolkien is a feast for this kind of stuff, only think of all the names for Sauron alone xP
P.S.: The German anime is surprisingly good and they have quite a few really good voice actors, especially for Madara (Volker Hanisch), Kakashi (Martin May) and Orochimaru (Erik Schäffler). Remarkably though that most of the actors are not really well known in the German voice actor scene (if you wanna call it that) but they really deserve some kudos! The translation on the other hand, well ... Translating Ramen constantly as noodle soup is lame but two shinobi fighting in a death match and shouting “I will defeat you” insteat of “kill” was really daft. The translation messed up quite a bit, but on the other hand there are some puns that are so hilariously good, where they really catched the spirit of the character. Special kudos to Holger Löwenberg (Tobirama and Pain mostly) to give Tobirama some extra cynism while dissing Naruto :DDD
P.P.S.: I heared that the English voiced version of the anime is shit. After listening to a little bit of it I have to express my condolescence to everyone who had to suffer that.

Hey fellow Mass Effect fans! :)
So... I’ve been thinking about whether to post this or not for a long time now, because I’m a really shy person and I would usually never post anything that personal of myself on here, but since I friggin won the German Explorers Wanted Voice Contest for Mass Effect Andromeda (!!! I’m still screaming!! Here’s the announcement post from the official German ME Facebook page with my audition) back in december, I was invited to the recording studio in Hamburg where MEA is being localized, so I decided to post this anyway! :D So if you’re interested, I’ll write a bit about my experience under the cut. (Please excuse any grammar or spelling errors, since English is obviously not my first language. ^^)
But first I sadly have to tell you guys that I’m of course not allowed to talk about any of the great stuff I heard and saw in relation to MEA (and believe me, it’s driving me crazy!!!). I can tell however, that I met the German voice actor of Shepard (Erik Schäffler), who actually directed me and gave me advice while recording the lines (and yes, it was the coolest thing ever!!). Btw I should add that he didn’t record anything himself as some people on Facebook assumed (at least not when I was there ^^)! Here’s another Facebook post with a short video that shows him and me, right before recording. He said ‘‘I’m Commander Shepard and this is my favorite voice actress on the Citadel’’ and then my name and if you look closely, you may see my soul leaving my body! xD (Seriously, I still can’t believe he actually said that and I can die in peace now) Anyway, as the German article I linked above says, I got to voice three rather small (but hilarious) NPC roles and another bigger one with a (awesome) side quest! I’d love to share details, but we’ll have to wait until release! Without giving anything away though, there were some (big?) spoilers in one of my lines and now I’m really excited about that (like I literally went ‘Ohhhh’ while I was reading xD)! Aside from that, it was a lot of fun and actually quite challenging - it certainly made me appreciate the work and effort they put into the voice acting a lot more! These guys definitely do a great job and it always makes me sad to see how some people complain about the German Dub. They were also really nice, like after some time they would ask me if we should take a break, because I was so excited that I didn’t eat much before I went to the studio and then in the recording booth my stomach started growling like an angry varren (probably one of the most embarrassing moments of my life) and the next moment I found myself sitting next to the voice of Shepard casually chatting and eating a sandwich. xD It was the most surreal thing. And since that was my first time doing something like that, I had to repeat some lines over and over again, because I couldn’t get it right, to a point were it got quite frustrating (I literally shouted ‘Fuck!’ one time directly into the microphone in front of Commander Shepard and immediately apologised for it and he just said something like “Oh don’t worry, we hear that all the time around here” xD).
But it was definitely a great day I’ll never forget. I’m so thankful for this awesome experience and as a huge fan of Mass Effect and voice acting in general, it’s a big dream coming true and a great honor to be a small part of the ME universe! I look forward to finally play MEA in march to explore and to have a ton of fun searching for those NPCs (and sure as hell post about it on here when I find them! xD) and if one of you is playing MEA in German, I hope you enjoy it and maybe you’ll hear my voice somewhere in Andromeda! :)
Feel free to send me a message or a question if you have one and I will try to answer it if it doesn’t involve spoilers or anything I could get in trouble for! ;D

Oh my! You’re right! Didn’t notice this before that they have the same voice actors in Japanese, too xP The picture of Tobirama singing this is now stuck in my brain forever :D Spiced up with some Tobi dancing around like baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. BRAIN, STAHP!
So, we are speaking of voice actors. I did some research while watching Naruto and noticed some fun stuff. First here’s a list of all the German voice actors, their characters and the Japanese original actors. You can put the names of the German dudes in the search of the Deutsche Synchronkartei and this page will tell you what other roles the actors had in film and serieses plus the characters they have voiced and the original voice or actor. It’s a really usefull tool if you’re interested in this kind of stuff.
But I also noticed that not all actors are listed. Tobirama for example. Only Löwenberg is listed in the German wiki and if you search for Tobirama in the Synchronkartei you only get Löwenberg, too. But over the course of the whole anime Tobirama had three voices. Wait a sec, I give you some samples. I had to put it into my google drive because just everything else didn’t work and YT had some issues with copyright T.T (Hell, so terribly annoying.) Therefore some links instead of nice embeded videos:
First during the Konoha cursh arc where Orochimaru summoned him and Hashirama. The other voices are some unknow guys for Hashirama and the ANBU dudes, Erik Schäffler for Orochimaru and Wolf Frass as Hiruzen (two of the few better know voices in Naruto).
Then again in Danzo’s flashback the escort unit stuff where he appoints Hiruzen as his succsessor. And again the voices for young Danzo and young Hiruzen are unknown, they aren’t listed in the wiki and I don’t think they ever appeared again. But tbh I didn’t pay attention to all those minor roles, and there are just soooo many voice actors. I only noticed this with Tobirama because I was rewatching some old stuff for some details. Anyway, the escort unit.
And finally the last arc, that’s now Herr Löwenberg with Hennig Nöhren as Naruto, Jannik Endemann as Sasuke and Marcus Just as Minato. Also one of those parts where the translation outdid itself with Tobirama, I screamed xP Holger Löwenberg also voiced Tobirama as kid, I JUST CAN’T, KID TOBIRAMA with that voice!! The other voices here are Mike Olsowski as Itama (also voiced C) and Konstantin Graudus as Hashirama (he also voiced adult Hashirama).
Löwenberg also voiced Heiji and Sandaime Raikage in episode 282 as well as Pain in episode 80-83 and from episode 157 on :D
Hennig Nöhren as Naruto took over in episode 268 and around that time the sync studio changed, which had two major benefits:
1. Nöhren as Naruto, his first voice, Tobias Pippig, was just insufferable.
2. The characters no longer shouted “I will defeat you!!” (aka “Ich werde dich besiegen!”) and then go for each others throats and instead named it for what it was: “I’m gonna kill you!” (Ich werde dich töten!”)
Well, yeah. That’s a bit of the German synchonization.
So, I only know the German voiced Naruto Anime or the English fan translation for the manga on neatmanga. For my fanfic Roots I was discussing with a friend how Tobirama and Izuna are adressing their older brothers because Japanese ways of adressing other people are fucking confussing.
