Be me, high performing gymnast, athlete, hyperactive. Fall ill with chronic exhaustion.
Doctor: you should try to build your stamina up that should help.
I love it when I tell doctors that I'm a LARPer and an endurance hiker and one of the most frustrating things about chronic pain is how hard it is to go to the park and do my favorite physical activites, and they'll look at me like a dog that's just been shown a card trick and ask, "Have you tried exercising?"
#Honestly it's interesting how people often conflate stamina and energy and metabolism.#Metabolism is how much energy you release at once ie: are you a marathon jogger or a sprinter. Pretty unchanging.#Stamina is how much stuff the physical body can handle ie: how far you can jog. You increase this by exercise.#Energy: how many nutrients you're absorbing the body and turning into Do Stuff Juice. This fluctuates wildly.#You need all three to go zoom but the last two especially. Never mind the myriad of ways energy is spent.#Physical? Mental? Emotional? Digestion? Stress? Handling pain? Correcting your stance? Interpreting? Communicating? Calculating? Other??#Doctors don't always get that. Which is pretty odd considering the stress of med school but whatever lmao#I would LOVE to run around outside and pay attention in class and have energy for hobbies!! The problem is that I don't!#The solution is not 'do more' the solution is 'do it differently' and the question I'm asking is HOW??
