18 Best Cinematic Photos of 2022 on 35mm Films & Digital
Tumblr media
I have been shooting with a film camera more than using my Fujifilm X-T4 in 2022. I love to shoot with the Kodak Vision3 500T because of its cinematic colour tone. I have been testing out and experimenting with the 35mm film day and night. Finally, it is about time for me to compile a list of the best cinematic photos which I've learned using the basic photography techniques that I've learned throughout the year.I like this motion picture film because of actual films and movies shot with the Eastman Kodak. Other than shooting with film, I also create film recipes for the Fujifilm fanboys and girls out there to try out recipes. I also love trying street photography in Malaysia although I'm not good at it and have to practice more. Most of the photos which I've also shared previously were some of my favourite SOOC street photos as well as best portrait shots in 2022.I love to shoot films with my Contax G1, which is my dream to own this 27-year-old film camera. I love to shoot night scenes to get the cinematic film look, especially with the Kodak Vision3 500T. Well, honestly saying I haven't tried the CineStill 800T but I think the film is too expensive for me. Yet, it is the same 35mm film as the Kodak Vision3 500T but with the ramjet removed. I still like the original Eastman Kodak.
My Best Photos With Cinematic Look, Just Like A Movie Scene
As always I shoot with my Fujifilm X-T4 paired with the only lens Fujinon XF35mm F2 R WR. I find this lens is good for me when it comes to shooting portraits and streets. I always wanted to invest in a wider lens but the 35mm is just good enough. Wherever I go or travel, the 35mm lens will always be with me. Alright, let's get started with some nice cinematic photo dumps in this post, which is also some of my best cinematic shots of all time!
Tumblr media
This is one of my favourite photos I have shot with my Fujifilm X-T4 at the Great British Circus in Malaysia and it does look like a scene in a movie. I listed this as one of the best cinematic shots because there are the background, foreground and subjects.
Tumblr media
Here is another one of my best shots which I took at the circus. This photo is similar to the point of view of an audience and there is layer separation which includes the background, center-focused subject and foreground.
Tumblr media
This candid photo that looks like a movie scene was shot during a vacation photoshoot in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur with a candid street photography concept, shot with Fujifilm X-T4. I like the candid shot which is very film-like and also because of the colour tone of my film recipe.
Tumblr media
I was strolling around in a Japanese garden and was approached by one of the strangers as they wanted me to help them take a picture. So I helped them. As I was walking forward into the bamboo area, I turned around and actually found out they are about to take a selfie, they noticed me but doesn't care, so I quickly take the shot. I like how the hair of the lady freezes in the air just like that gives meaning to a moment of those two enjoying themselves. This photo was shot with the LomoChrome Metropolis 35mm film at a Japanese garden in Malaysia.
Tumblr media
This is another creepy shot with the Kodak Vision3 500T that looks like a movie scene you watched in the cinema. The film is pushed 1 stop underexposed for more light. I also have the diffusion filter attached to my film camera lens and this is the end result.
Tumblr media
One of my time favourite film shots I've taken during my first time going out for night photography on film with my Contax G1. In this image, we can see the subject is within the frame, there is a gesture and also odd numbers of people. I took the risk and actually have no idea whether this shot through the glass window will be in focus or not. I was just lucky enough.
Tumblr media
I love shooting portraits with backlight, as this gives me the cinematic glow when paired with the diffusion filter. This was shot with the Fujifilm X-T4 during the golden hour before sunset.
Tumblr media
This is an interesting shot as I tried to aim for the legs in a low-light condition and it was quite dark. I like this photo as I was trying to use the rule of thirds without any framing guidelines on my Contax G1 viewfinder. This was shot with the Kodak Vision3 250D film.
Tumblr media
I find these bumper cars to look quite interesting. I like this cinematic look and I was actually wondering how good it is if there is a red balloon there, then it will look like a horror film! This was shot with the Kodak Vision3 250D film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Previous Next I really like this Wong Kar Wai look-alike colour tone, although these cinematic portraits are shot in low light with the Kodak Portra 400 35mm film stock.
Tumblr media
One of my best cinematic photos was shot with the Kodak Vision3 500T. I like this shot because of the two blurry females, one was drinking a cocktail while the logo is in focus.
Tumblr media
Once more, the subjects are in the frame within the frame composition. This was shot on the Fujifilm X-T4 with a cinematic film recipe which was meant for night photography.
Tumblr media
This is one of my favourite movie-like photos, I like the pattern of the roof and also the leading line of the pillars. This was shot using Kodak Vision3 500T.
Tumblr media
I like this photo because of the frame-within-a-frame that I've used. This composition is usually used in street photography and movie films. This was shot handheld with the Contax G1 with Kodak ColorPlus 200 film. I was lucky to get this shot in focus and sharp because shooting in low-light required a very steady hand because the shutter speed is really low while taking this shot.
Tumblr media
This was shot during my night photography with a film camera in the Chinatown area. I found this back alley actually looks quite interesting with the tungsten lights illuminating the entire back alley with leading lines. The shutter speed was quite low in this shot.
Tumblr media
I find this photo very mysterious and creepy because the area is very dark and does not have much light. My shutter speed is quite low, probably around 1/15 seconds but I still decided to take the shot with a steady hand. Read the full article

BJP’s hegemony and party structure spark concerns. But its power is fragile - analysis
Tumblr media
Two weeks ago, with Home Minister Amit Shah in front of him, corporate leader Rahul Bajaj spoke of an environment of fear gripping the country. While Shah addressed the concern in his response, government ministers and government-aligned public voices were quick to attack Bajaj — thereby validating Bajaj’s concerns. At its core, Bajaj was expressing a concern about the hegemony of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule at the Centre, and how it silences the criticism required for effective policy. The logic that undergirds this concern is straightforward. Political parties are highly susceptible to “group think,” as the careers of those in a party organisation are often linked to affirming the views of its leader. The leader’s hold over the party is linked to the relative absence of criticism. This generates incentives for those in the party to withhold even legitimate criticisms, or contradictory evidence, to the party leadership, as well as for the party leadership to stifle dissenting or critical views. All this is well known, but the hegemony of rule by a single party (in this case, the BJP) takes this logic one step further. Fundamentally, when a party is hegemonic, the chief aim of policy is to bolster its own organisation and entrench it in society. The logic that stifles criticism within a party must then be extended to the population as a whole. From this perspective, the characterisation of what is national interest or anti-national or what is an assertion of Hindu identity or anti-Hindu is not a matter of discernible ideology. It is curated by the political party in power and generates narratives that strengthens the party vis-à-vis its opponents. While there may be legitimate, even widely held, criticisms of the BJP government’s economic or agricultural policy, citizens are likely to withhold public criticism or face intimidation from government supporters when they do so. The problem is that when criticisms from the ground cannot easily reach those in power, then the government cannot efficiently correct flaws in its policies — as it is surrounded by yes men.In order to grapple with what we see today, one needs more institutional context. Unlike previous iterations of the BJP, the party seems to be more centralised than ever. In the recent negotiations over state formation in Haryana and Maharashtra, there was no doubt that parties and politicians were negotiating with BJP at the Centre, not the party’s state units. This is a testament to the popularity of Narendra Modi and juggernaut that Amit Shah has help to build. But this hollowing out of state units to strengthen the party at the Centre, also generates incentives for the central party to use its institutional heft to bully its rivals at the state level. Scholars of India’s political history will see strong similarities between the position of the BJP today and the Congress of the late 1960s and early 1970s. At that time, while Indira Gandhi remained by far the most popular national leader, her Congress faced serious factional splits. These breakaway factions suddenly made state politics far more electorally competitive for the Congress. As political scientist Steven Wilkinson chronicles, this competition made state elections a big money game. Gandhi sought to choke the funding for rival political parties by banning corporate donations, and she sought to bypass the electoral appeal of various state leaders by announcing a series of centrally sponsored schemes to generate a connection between herself and the voter. (The parallels to the sanctioning of electoral bonds, which have disproportionately benefited the BJP, and the myriad schemes announced under the Modi government are striking.) Many commentators have claimed that competitive state elections have shown that the BJP is not as hegemonic as many claim. Whereas the above logic now shows that the BJP is hegemonic in nature precisely because of it.But there are differences today too. Simply put, the technology around building a narrative and stifling the criticisms of others has changed. As we have witnessed in Kashmir, with the Internet shutdown, shutting of mobile networks, and curfews, the government can effectively stymie the ability of many citizens to express themselves. Furthermore, the speed at which the political party in power — with a somewhat sympathetic media — can build a narrative has grown significantly. (This is to say nothing of the efficiency with which social media can be used to intimidate or harass political opponents — with or without the assent of the political party.) The BJP looks like it will be in control for the foreseeable future. But politics can change at a moment’s notice. Whether it be the decline of the Congress after the late 1980s or the decimation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in West Bengal after 2007, one rarely sees it coming. The catalyst can be anything from a policy mistake to an economic crisis. For when people are angry and frustrated enough, no amount of social control can hem them in.Neelanjan Sircar is an assistant professor, Ashoka University, and visiting senior fellow, Centre for Policy ResearchThe views expressed are personal Read the full article

Reala Ace Film Recipe For Fujifilm X-Trans IV - Street Edition
Tumblr media
A Japanese film simulation recipe with vibrant tonality, perfectly suited for a variety of scenes for the 4th generation Fujifilm Cameras
IvanYolo Introducing the latest addition to Fujifilm recipes lineup – Reala Ace film recipe. Originally tailored for the Fujifilm GFX100 II and X100VI, this 20th film simulation meticulously blends faithful color reproduction with a distinctive hard tonality, ensuring its versatility across various subjects and shooting scenarios. Drawing inspiration from the beloved Fujicolor Superia Reala 100, the REALA ACE film simulation has quickly become a favorite among Fujifilm enthusiasts. If you find yourself still using a 4th generation Fujifilm camera, fear not. The Reala Ace film simulation offers a compelling recipe to replicate the sought-after aesthetic. It provides a bridge between the nostalgia of classic film and the convenience of digital photography.
About The Reala Ace Film Recipe
By using the Classic Negative film simulation as a base, Reala Ace is tweaked to imitate the Reala Ace film stock. This lets older Fujifilm cameras enjoy the unique tones of this film recipe. It's worth noting that the original REALA ACE film simulation on the GFX100 II and Fujifilm X100VI was designed to complement the capabilities of larger sensors found in newer Fujifilm models. So, if you're rocking an older Fujifilm camera, exploring this Reala Ace film recipe might be an excellent starting point to capture the essence of this innovative film simulation. Dive into the world of nuanced color and bold tonality with Reala Ace film recipe on your trusted Fujifilm gear. After conducting thorough research and analyzing the Fujicolor Reala Ace 100 film stock sample photos on Lomography, I observed subtle differences resulting from changing light conditions, but the tonality has been fine-tuned to suit a broad range of scenes. Interestingly, I've developed a comparable recipe, the papurudorimu recipe, which produces a tone remarkably similar to the observed results. What stands out to me in this Reala Ace film recipe is the resemblance in certain tones to the actual film stock. Now, turning our attention to the Reala Ace film recipe tailored for the Fujifilm X-Trans IV, there's a deliberate adjustment in the white balance shift, creating a more subdued and nuanced effect. This modification aims to enhance the overall visual experience, offering a unique tonal balance that complements the characteristics of the X-Trans IV sensor. Please note that when using the Reala Ace film recipe, the tonality may appear slightly muted due to the Highlight & Shadow adjusted to -0.5. However, this also means that the recipe is versatile and can perform well under various lighting conditions, making it a great option for any photographer.
Reala Ace Film Recipe: Great For All Scenes
The Reala Ace film recipe is the ultimate solution for all your photography needs if you are looking to shoot SOOC JPEG. Whether you're capturing lively street scenes, stunning portraits, or breathtaking landscapes, this recipe has got you covered. Its ease of use makes shooting a breeze, while its high-quality output ensures that your images stand out from the rest.It is imperative to shoot under ideal lighting conditions. The ideal conditions are most prevalent during the daytime when the sun illuminates the foreground while casting shadows on the background. This enhances and fully exploits the film recipe's unique attributes. If you are unsatisfied with the REALA ACE film simulation on your Fujifilm cameras, you might want to experiment with custom settings. Give it a try and see if it meets your preferences.Debates among the street photography community page on Facebook argue that when it comes to street photography, the usage of filters or presets can compromise the authenticity and rawness of the captured moment. However, I do not adhere to any strict rules or limitations when it comes to my approach to street photography. As long as it's not overly tweaked or adjusted till it looks weird, it's fine. So have fun and enjoy shooting, peeps!
