October 21 1956 saw the last tram car run in Dundee.
Unlike Edinburgh and Glasgow, who made a big event of the last runs, Dundee Corporation’s Transport Department decided not to mark the event of its ‘Last Tram’ but to quietly introduce the busses replacing them, it didn't stop the Dundonians see the last tram enter the Lochee Depot, as seen in the second photo.

I've worked in Edinburgh for about a year (I live near Dundee). And of all the times I've commuted (at least once or twice a week) all buses and trains have been running and on time in both directions maybe twice? It cannot be that hard to have functioning public transport, surely? Folks in other countries (or even cities), please confirm or deny?

Catherine: The only thing that hurt me was that you disappeared without even saying goodbye. For a while I was hoping you’d write or come back. But then I had no choice but to tell my parents. I made it sound like you were a heartless villain, who had half deceived, half forced me. I was so angry then that I almost enjoyed telling that story. And knowing my parents – they wouldn’t have been so good to me and to Alice if I had sinned. We Gordons, we don’t make moral blunders, you know.
Alasdair: Yes, I know that all too well.
Tumblr media
Catherine: Of course my father tried to make some inquires. He couldn’t find a Daniel and Alasdair McCarrick in Glasgow. And the Duchess of – was an ancient lady who had already been elderly seventeen years before. So he assumed you had lied about everything.
Alasdair: Good grief! The Old Duchess! So that was thirty-six years ago. I wasn’t only transported to Dundee, but also to the past. Nobody’s ever going to believe me.

Whisky, gin and beer
It was always going to be about beer, too - not only whisky and gin. And it was probably designed to be a simultaneous project, that might have been postponed for various reasons: funny how all those intelligent people across the street forget everything about COVID, when it does not fit their agendas. And by COVID, I do not mean only the prolonged lockdowns, but first and foremost the worldwide logistics crisis, with compromised supply chains and overall a huge blow on the transports' sector.
In fact, looking at those trademark websites, it becomes evident that first (now abandoned) trademark application for beer was filed in at the same time as the one for whisky, on December 28, 2018:
Tumblr media
Separate categories, as per US regulations, need separate filings, of course. And beer is a brilliant, simple idea, with high quality local ingredients (it's really barley, water, hops and yeast) relatively easy to source. Well, spare perhaps for the hops, but that is not really a problem, anymore:
Tumblr media
(Source: the James Hutton Institute's booklet Hops in Scotland, 2018 - well, then. The institute is based in Dundee, by the way, so I think they know exactly what they are talking about, especially after a four year long feasibility study with encouraging results: https://www.hutton.ac.uk/news/scottish-hops-viable-commercial-crop-hutton-research-finds)
As I always make a point of reminding anyone, this page does not deal in fantasy and empty, meaningless scouring of social media accounts. And cackle to your heart's content, Mordor, but S seems to have a genuine, informed interest in the industry, as shown above.
This is a different business plan and a different marketing model, based on affordable production costs and yield/volume (as compared to successive, 'limited batches' of tequila or whisky, where the accent is placed on the excellence of the product and know-how, as reflected in the final price tag). You can bottle that beer or you can sell it on tap, partnering with local bars and pubs first, then progressively extending that network. And I bet the farm it is going to be a premium, artisanal beer first, with options open for a more democratic product, once brand awareness is properly built: beer is versatile, like that.
Whisky and gin were expensive, carefully curated pet projects. Beer is a fun, easy and lucrative one, with a wider clientele and fast growing potential. And this is how that unknown, struggling Scottish actor who once was the face of Tennent's has a fair opportunity to strike it big. To be followed, which I might do. And this is also how his products could cover the entire price range, from luxury to affordable.
It is also always disheartening to see how all those bitter women congregating on certain Tumblr pages feel the need to dismiss anything he does. As I always said and I always will, many of them have no idea about the very basics of business and trade, no exposure to that world and, to be honest, no particular intellectual acuity. Plus I bet the farm many of them lie about their own circumstances: it's easy to pretend, on the Internet and always sexier (and lame, of course) to introduce yourself as a corporate whatever than a secretary. But I wonder how would they feel, in the unlikely situation they would be running their own lemonade stand, if passers by started cackling and bitching about their trade, out of the blue.
So, all in all, we seem to be dealing with some careful preparation, portfolio diversification and yes, taking much needed strides away from McGrandma. To be continued, of course...
PS: FMN Gin, still crickets? Ahhh...

Hannah Dundee: Dinosaurs and Danger Unleashed by Jade Gretz
The air shimmered, distorting the world around Hannah like a mirage in a desert. A searing wind whipped at her tattered clothes, carrying with it the guttural bellows of unseen creatures. She squinted against the harsh sunlight, the cloudless sky an endless expanse of turquoise mocking her predicament.
Hannah, a renowned paleontologist, found herself inexplicably transported from the sterile confines of her laboratory to this hostile terrain. One moment she was meticulously examining a fossil, the next, she was sprawled on a bed of coarse sand, surrounded by towering red rock formations that seemed to defy gravity.
Panic gnawed at the edges of her consciousness, but Hannah, a survivor by nature, forced it down. Survival meant clear thinking, and right now, the most pressing issue was figuring out where the hell she was.
Her gaze swept across the desolate landscape. Sparse vegetation clung to the rocky slopes, offering little in the way of food or shelter. The air, thick with a prehistoric tang, vibrated with the distant calls of unseen creatures. This wasn't a scene from a textbook; this was a nightmare given life.
As Hannah pushed herself up, a sharp pain lanced through her ankle. Glancing down, she saw a nasty gash bleeding from a twisted angle. Cursing under her breath, she assessed the damage. Broken? Probably not. Sprained, for sure.
Ignoring the throbbing pain, she rummaged in her backpack, a comforting piece of familiarity amidst the surreal landscape. Thankfully, a first-aid kit was nestled amongst the notebooks and fossil samples. With practiced ease, she cleaned and bandaged her wound, wincing at the sting of the antiseptic.
Now, came the question of location. Hannah, a master navigator, scanned the horizon for any recognizable landmarks. But everything looked alien, unfamiliar. The towering red rocks, sculpted by millennia of wind and erosion, offered no clues.
Suddenly, a booming cry ripped through the air, sending shivers down her spine. From the valley below, a colossal shadow emerged from behind a towering rock format …(see the rest of the story at deviantart.com/jadegretzAI). Hello! Any go-to spots for a quick trip to St Andrews? I'll be up there for a couple days this summer for work and want to make the most of it!
Hello :) That'll be a lovely trip! Good news is St Andrews is not a city or even a big town. I think it's formally classed as a small town. So unless you really want to visit the big supermarket on the edge of town, St Andrews is basically three streets lol. You'll easily do it in a couple of days. It's a beautiful place to just walk around and see the sights, spend some time around the pier and the golf course. There are ruins of a castle and an old cathedral which are all fairly central. There's a few museums - Wardlaw, St Andrew Museum, I think there's a golf museum on the course. A botanic gardens which I never actually went to but I heard it was nice. In terms of food I probably can't recommend much because I haven't lived there in a decade so the places will probably have changed but one place I know still exists and I dream about it regularly is The Tailend. It's a fish and chip restaurant and it's the best fish and chips I've ever had. You could also nip to some places near by. Transport links aren't the best but Dundee has a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum which is supposed to be good. Hope you have a nice time :)

Everyone concerned about Matty getting no rest, meanwhile I’m an Event Manager in full-on work mode thinking about how stressed I’d be if my headliner was still in NY 24 hours before the gig 😆 especially given Dundee is not the most connected place transport-wise.
Lol but yeah, please get rest Matty!
Hshahahahs omgggg no TRUEEE. plus, don’t they have to rehearse, make sure that all their equipment and stuff is in place and ready for the show? Like….leaving all that til the last minute sounds risky….but maybe it’s cuz they’ve been doing this for years and it’s probably routine to them by now? Idk he’s insane.

Good morning!  I hope you slept well and feel rested?  Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day.  Welcome to the weekend!
Wow!  Here we are again: Friday!  Where did that week go?  No, seriously, where did that week go?
Started work at 7.30 a.m. and switched off my PC just after 10.00 p.m.  In my own space, at my own pace, I get a lot done!  Popped out about 1.00 to get some provisions and, although it was nippy, there was no need for trousers.  I shall be wearing my navy blue West Ham shorts for a few more weeks yet!  I’m trying to affect the weather with my short, muscular legs and, so far, it’s working!  Sunday will be a high of 14 degrees!
Hope you can join me tomorrow at 1.00 p.m. for ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’.  The Letter B (Part Four).  Executive Producer: Moany Em a.k.a. Emma Peters.  Ray Kane has already chosen his tracks for Part Five and what a superb show it is!  From Week Six onwards, it will just be me playing with myself.  Sorry … by myself!  I estimate The Letter C (Pt. 1) will be the first Saturday of January.
Straight after the show, I will jump on public transport and get myself down to The Scorpio Party at The White Lion, Streatham High Road.  Naturally, I’ll be having my favourite dish, jerk chicken, rice & peas at Lisa’s Kitchen (the in-house caterer at The White Lion), then I’ll be ready to play some tunes.  It’s an all-star line-up tomorrow night with Stevie Dundee, Jigs, Vivy Bee, Tony Rodriguez, Colin Williams and Jazzy GMan.  It’s FREE ENTRY before 9.00 p.m. so, if you’re anywhere near, please stick your head in so we can get a selfie.  Then, when your birthday comes around, there’ll be a selfie of you and me that I can post.
Saturday is D-Day for J.Lo.  If we lose to Everton, Andrea Gough will be very happy but J.Lo will be on a plane back to Spain.  We’ll have to pay him a load of severance but anything is better than a relegation battle!
Have a fabulous & funky Friday!  I love you all.  You’re probably thinking, “You don’t even know me!” but, if people can hate for no reason, why can’t I love?

Tumblr media
When planning a group outing or a family trip around Tayside, Scotland, convenience and comfort are key. One of the best ways to ensure both is by opting for minibus rental. Tayside, known for its stunning landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture, becomes even more accessible when you have the flexibility of your transportation. Whether you're visiting Dundee, exploring the Angus Glens, or venturing into the charming villages of Perthshire, a minibus provides the perfect solution for transportation needs.
Why Choose Minibus Rental in Tayside?
1. Flexibility and Convenience: Renting a minibus allows you to set your schedule and explore Tayside at your own pace. You're not dependent on public transportation schedules or restricted by the availability of taxis. This flexibility is especially beneficial when visiting attractions that are off the beaten path or require travel between different towns and villages.
2. Cost-Effective for Groups: Traveling in a group can often be costly when using individual vehicles or relying on public transport. A minibus rental in Tayside can be a cost-effective option, allowing you to split the rental fee among all passengers. This makes it not only economical but also environmentally friendly by reducing the carbon footprint per person.
3. Comfort and Space: Minibuses are designed with passenger comfort in mind. With ample legroom, storage space for luggage or equipment, and sometimes even amenities like air conditioning or entertainment systems, you can ensure that everyone travels in comfort, making the journey as enjoyable as the destination.
4. Access to Remote Areas: Tayside is renowned for its rugged countryside and remote beauty spots. A minibus rental gives you the ability to access these areas that may not be well-served by public transport. Whether you're planning a hiking trip in the Cairngorms National Park or visiting a secluded beach along the Angus coast, having your transport ensures you can make the most of your visit.
Where to Go in Tayside with Your Minibus Rental
1. Dundee: As Scotland's fourth-largest city, Dundee offers a blend of history, culture, and modern attractions. Visit the V&A Dundee, explore the RRS Discovery, or take a stroll along the waterfront. With a minibus, you can easily navigate between these highlights and discover hidden gems within the city.
2. Perthshire: Known as the gateway to the Highlands, Perthshire is a region of rolling hills, ancient forests, and picturesque towns. Explore the historic town of Perth, visit Scone Palace, or venture into the Perthshire Highlands for breathtaking landscapes. A minibus rental allows you to explore this diverse region at your leisure.
3. Angus Glens: For outdoor enthusiasts, the Angus Glens offer a playground of rugged terrain, perfect for hiking, cycling, or wildlife spotting. With a minibus, you can transport your group to trailheads and explore Glen Clova, Glen Isla, and Glen Esk, each offering its own unique charm and natural beauty.
4. Historic Villages: Tayside is dotted with charming villages that offer a glimpse into Scotland's past. From the medieval streets of Dunkeld to the coastal village of Broughty Ferry, each village has its own story to tell. A minibus rental allows you to visit multiple villages in a single day, immersing yourself in local history and culture.
Tips for Renting a Minibus in Tayside
- Plan Ahead: Book your minibus rental in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons or if you require a specific type of vehicle.
- Check Insurance Coverage: Ensure that the rental includes comprehensive insurance coverage for peace of mind during your travels.
- Driver Requirements: Different rental companies may have varying requirements for renting a minibus. To drive the minibus, it is important to possess a valid driver's license and meet the minimum age criteria set by the rental company.
- Review the Rental Agreement: Understand the terms and conditions of the rental agreement, including mileage limits, fuel policies, and any additional fees that may apply.
- Inspect the Vehicle: Before departing, inspect the minibus for any existing damage and familiarize yourself with its features and controls.
Conclusion
Exploring Tayside with a minibus rental provides the freedom to create memorable experiences with friends and family. Whether you're visiting bustling cities like Dundee, exploring the tranquil Angus Glens, or discovering historic villages in Perthshire, having your transportation enhances your journey. Next time you plan a trip to Tayside, consider the convenience and advantages of renting a minibus. It's not just about getting from point A to point B; it's about the journey itself, filled with exploration and discovery in one of Scotland's most captivating regions.
So, gather your group, plan your itinerary, and embark on an adventure through Tayside with a minibus rental that ensures your journey is as enjoyable as your destination. Happy travels!

October 21st 1956 saw the last tram car ran in Dundee.
The old trams are fondly remembered but by the 1950s, they were starting to get old and their network of lines had been outgrown by the developing city. Thousands of people turned out to bid the rattling, swaying old trams farewell.
In the evolution of Dundee’s urban transport, horse-drawn carriages gave way to steam propelled cars in 1877, which were superseded by electric trams in 1900, which in turn met a fierce rival in buses.
There is always a romantic sentiment around the old trams around the country and Dundee is now different, here is a description from a 1930’s leaflet on them, they were “lovely electrically-driven and electrically lit cars de luxe which we can now enjoy with so ample accommodation both inside and on the saloon on top, where one can smoke in comfort – having first, of course, asked permission from any ladies who have ventured to climb the ‘smoking room’.”
At their peak in the 30s, 79 tramways were in operation around the city, but mid-20th Century Dundonians considered trams old fashioned, costly to run, too slow and an impediment to the growing volume of other traffic.
And so it was in October 1956, the last trams were taken out of service and more than 5,000 people, many souvenir hunting, witnessed Car No. 23’s final journey to go to the Lochee depot, accompanied by the moving strains of We’re No Awa’ Tae Bide Awa’ and Will Ye No Come Back Again.
All remaining cars were reduced to scrap by burning – a sad end to a transport system that had kept Dundee on track for nearly 80 years.

John Duncan, Artist, Party invitation
July 28th 1890
This invitation to Mr. Lamb was from John Duncan, Artist, who was exhibiting, at a party, a full-length portrait of Mrs. Hunter in court dress. The party was to be held in Messrs. Murray and Son's salon in the Nethergate. John Duncan was born in Dundee in 1866, and began his career at the Art School at the age of 11.
He went to London and Germany and spent four years as Professor of Fine Art in America. It has been said of some of Mr. Duncan's work that it is a "transportation from the land of fairy fancy". He died in Edinburgh in 1945.
