October 21 1956 saw the last tram car run in Dundee.
Unlike Edinburgh and Glasgow, who made a big event of the last runs, Dundee Corporation’s Transport Department decided not to mark the event of its ‘Last Tram’ but to quietly introduce the busses replacing them, it didn't stop the Dundonians see the last tram enter the Lochee Depot, as seen in the second photo.

I've worked in Edinburgh for about a year (I live near Dundee). And of all the times I've commuted (at least once or twice a week) all buses and trains have been running and on time in both directions maybe twice? It cannot be that hard to have functioning public transport, surely? Folks in other countries (or even cities), please confirm or deny?

Catherine: The only thing that hurt me was that you disappeared without even saying goodbye. For a while I was hoping you’d write or come back. But then I had no choice but to tell my parents. I made it sound like you were a heartless villain, who had half deceived, half forced me. I was so angry then that I almost enjoyed telling that story. And knowing my parents – they wouldn’t have been so good to me and to Alice if I had sinned. We Gordons, we don’t make moral blunders, you know.
Alasdair: Yes, I know that all too well.

Catherine: Of course my father tried to make some inquires. He couldn’t find a Daniel and Alasdair McCarrick in Glasgow. And the Duchess of – was an ancient lady who had already been elderly seventeen years before. So he assumed you had lied about everything.
Alasdair: Good grief! The Old Duchess! So that was thirty-six years ago. I wasn’t only transported to Dundee, but also to the past. Nobody’s ever going to believe me.

Whisky, gin and beer
It was always going to be about beer, too - not only whisky and gin. And it was probably designed to be a simultaneous project, that might have been postponed for various reasons: funny how all those intelligent people across the street forget everything about COVID, when it does not fit their agendas. And by COVID, I do not mean only the prolonged lockdowns, but first and foremost the worldwide logistics crisis, with compromised supply chains and overall a huge blow on the transports' sector.
In fact, looking at those trademark websites, it becomes evident that first (now abandoned) trademark application for beer was filed in at the same time as the one for whisky, on December 28, 2018:
Separate categories, as per US regulations, need separate filings, of course. And beer is a brilliant, simple idea, with high quality local ingredients (it's really barley, water, hops and yeast) relatively easy to source. Well, spare perhaps for the hops, but that is not really a problem, anymore:
(Source: the James Hutton Institute's booklet Hops in Scotland, 2018 - well, then. The institute is based in Dundee, by the way, so I think they know exactly what they are talking about, especially after a four year long feasibility study with encouraging results: https://www.hutton.ac.uk/news/scottish-hops-viable-commercial-crop-hutton-research-finds)
As I always make a point of reminding anyone, this page does not deal in fantasy and empty, meaningless scouring of social media accounts. And cackle to your heart's content, Mordor, but S seems to have a genuine, informed interest in the industry, as shown above.
This is a different business plan and a different marketing model, based on affordable production costs and yield/volume (as compared to successive, 'limited batches' of tequila or whisky, where the accent is placed on the excellence of the product and know-how, as reflected in the final price tag). You can bottle that beer or you can sell it on tap, partnering with local bars and pubs first, then progressively extending that network. And I bet the farm it is going to be a premium, artisanal beer first, with options open for a more democratic product, once brand awareness is properly built: beer is versatile, like that.
Whisky and gin were expensive, carefully curated pet projects. Beer is a fun, easy and lucrative one, with a wider clientele and fast growing potential. And this is how that unknown, struggling Scottish actor who once was the face of Tennent's has a fair opportunity to strike it big. To be followed, which I might do. And this is also how his products could cover the entire price range, from luxury to affordable.
It is also always disheartening to see how all those bitter women congregating on certain Tumblr pages feel the need to dismiss anything he does. As I always said and I always will, many of them have no idea about the very basics of business and trade, no exposure to that world and, to be honest, no particular intellectual acuity. Plus I bet the farm many of them lie about their own circumstances: it's easy to pretend, on the Internet and always sexier (and lame, of course) to introduce yourself as a corporate whatever than a secretary. But I wonder how would they feel, in the unlikely situation they would be running their own lemonade stand, if passers by started cackling and bitching about their trade, out of the blue.
So, all in all, we seem to be dealing with some careful preparation, portfolio diversification and yes, taking much needed strides away from McGrandma. To be continued, of course...
PS: FMN Gin, still crickets? Ahhh...

Hannah Dundee: Dinosaurs and Danger Unleashed by Jade Gretz
The air shimmered, distorting the world around Hannah like a mirage in a desert. A searing wind whipped at her tattered clothes, carrying with it the guttural bellows of unseen creatures. She squinted against the harsh sunlight, the cloudless sky an endless expanse of turquoise mocking her predicament.
Hannah, a renowned paleontologist, found herself inexplicably transported from the sterile confines of her laboratory to this hostile terrain. One moment she was meticulously examining a fossil, the next, she was sprawled on a bed of coarse sand, surrounded by towering red rock formations that seemed to defy gravity.
Panic gnawed at the edges of her consciousness, but Hannah, a survivor by nature, forced it down. Survival meant clear thinking, and right now, the most pressing issue was figuring out where the hell she was.
Her gaze swept across the desolate landscape. Sparse vegetation clung to the rocky slopes, offering little in the way of food or shelter. The air, thick with a prehistoric tang, vibrated with the distant calls of unseen creatures. This wasn't a scene from a textbook; this was a nightmare given life.
As Hannah pushed herself up, a sharp pain lanced through her ankle. Glancing down, she saw a nasty gash bleeding from a twisted angle. Cursing under her breath, she assessed the damage. Broken? Probably not. Sprained, for sure.
Ignoring the throbbing pain, she rummaged in her backpack, a comforting piece of familiarity amidst the surreal landscape. Thankfully, a first-aid kit was nestled amongst the notebooks and fossil samples. With practiced ease, she cleaned and bandaged her wound, wincing at the sting of the antiseptic.
Now, came the question of location. Hannah, a master navigator, scanned the horizon for any recognizable landmarks. But everything looked alien, unfamiliar. The towering red rocks, sculpted by millennia of wind and erosion, offered no clues.
Suddenly, a booming cry ripped through the air, sending shivers down her spine. From the valley below, a colossal shadow emerged from behind a towering rock format …(see the rest of the story at deviantart.com/jadegretzAI). Hello! Any go-to spots for a quick trip to St Andrews? I'll be up there for a couple days this summer for work and want to make the most of it!
Hello :) That'll be a lovely trip! Good news is St Andrews is not a city or even a big town. I think it's formally classed as a small town. So unless you really want to visit the big supermarket on the edge of town, St Andrews is basically three streets lol. You'll easily do it in a couple of days. It's a beautiful place to just walk around and see the sights, spend some time around the pier and the golf course. There are ruins of a castle and an old cathedral which are all fairly central. There's a few museums - Wardlaw, St Andrew Museum, I think there's a golf museum on the course. A botanic gardens which I never actually went to but I heard it was nice. In terms of food I probably can't recommend much because I haven't lived there in a decade so the places will probably have changed but one place I know still exists and I dream about it regularly is The Tailend. It's a fish and chip restaurant and it's the best fish and chips I've ever had. You could also nip to some places near by. Transport links aren't the best but Dundee has a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum which is supposed to be good. Hope you have a nice time :)

Everyone concerned about Matty getting no rest, meanwhile I’m an Event Manager in full-on work mode thinking about how stressed I’d be if my headliner was still in NY 24 hours before the gig 😆 especially given Dundee is not the most connected place transport-wise.
Lol but yeah, please get rest Matty!
Hshahahahs omgggg no TRUEEE. plus, don’t they have to rehearse, make sure that all their equipment and stuff is in place and ready for the show? Like….leaving all that til the last minute sounds risky….but maybe it’s cuz they’ve been doing this for years and it’s probably routine to them by now? Idk he’s insane.

Joyce & Kuster Host the Roundtable to Discuss Support.
Congressman Dave Joyce (R-OH) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (D-NH) co-chair the Bipartisan Task Force to end sexual violence. They hosted this roundtable for child sexual abuse survivors as well as advocates. During their conversation, the group discussed the need for reform to the policy to prevent children from experiencing sexual violence in the future and expand their access to support and justice resources for the survivors. On 10th December 1937 disaster struck at Castlecary train station on the Edinburgh-Glasgow line.
Today marks the 87th anniversary of the tragedy that cost a total of 35 people their lives and hundreds of others injured when blizzard conditions and signalling problems led to the Edinburgh to Glasgow express ploughing into a stationary train just west of Castlecary in Lanarkshire.
The crash occurred at 4.37pm on a Friday after the Dundee to Glasgow train stopped at signals outside Castlecary station.
An investigation after the incident found a signaller error was to blame, with driver error and challenging weather conditions contributing factors .An error from the signalman meant that the Edinburgh train's driver had been led to believe that the route forward was clear.
At the time, the then Glasgow Herald reported: “The locomotive tore through the rear portion of the stationary train, crumbling the carriages to matchwood and throwing the rear coach into the air. It landed broadside across the track.
“With the impetus of the train the foremost carriages of the Edinburgh train reared high in the air, and rode up over the engine. The two following carriages heaved themselves partially on top of each other.”
It reported scenes of “twisted iron” and “wheels buckled almost beyond recognition”. Among the dead was an eight-year-old girl, who was first counted as missing.
The noise from the impact was heard from a nearby mine and all the miners ran down the hillside to help, to pull the injured and the dead from the train. The only light they had to work with was the lamp on their own helmets, and they built bonfires along the trackside.
The driver of the Edinburgh train was charged with culpable homicide for supposedly driving too fast in the weather conditions, but the charge was later dropped.
However both drivers were found at fault of travelling at high speed in adverse weather conditions at a Department of Transport inquiry as well as the signalman, who was also severely criticised.
On the 80th anniversary of the accident, the North Lanarkshire village of Castlecary carried out a memorial for those who lost their lives.
Initially, the disaster was marked with a plaque in the village, but fifteen years ago Castlecary residents created a memorial in their Garden of Remembrance comprised of a two railway sleepers, two short lengths of track and a two-tonne locomotive wheel.

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to the weekend!
Wow! Here we are again: Friday! Where did that week go? No, seriously, where did that week go?
Started work at 7.30 a.m. and switched off my PC just after 10.00 p.m. In my own space, at my own pace, I get a lot done! Popped out about 1.00 to get some provisions and, although it was nippy, there was no need for trousers. I shall be wearing my navy blue West Ham shorts for a few more weeks yet! I’m trying to affect the weather with my short, muscular legs and, so far, it’s working! Sunday will be a high of 14 degrees!
Hope you can join me tomorrow at 1.00 p.m. for ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’. The Letter B (Part Four). Executive Producer: Moany Em a.k.a. Emma Peters. Ray Kane has already chosen his tracks for Part Five and what a superb show it is! From Week Six onwards, it will just be me playing with myself. Sorry … by myself! I estimate The Letter C (Pt. 1) will be the first Saturday of January.
Straight after the show, I will jump on public transport and get myself down to The Scorpio Party at The White Lion, Streatham High Road. Naturally, I’ll be having my favourite dish, jerk chicken, rice & peas at Lisa’s Kitchen (the in-house caterer at The White Lion), then I’ll be ready to play some tunes. It’s an all-star line-up tomorrow night with Stevie Dundee, Jigs, Vivy Bee, Tony Rodriguez, Colin Williams and Jazzy GMan. It’s FREE ENTRY before 9.00 p.m. so, if you’re anywhere near, please stick your head in so we can get a selfie. Then, when your birthday comes around, there’ll be a selfie of you and me that I can post.
Saturday is D-Day for J.Lo. If we lose to Everton, Andrea Gough will be very happy but J.Lo will be on a plane back to Spain. We’ll have to pay him a load of severance but anything is better than a relegation battle!
Have a fabulous & funky Friday! I love you all. You’re probably thinking, “You don’t even know me!” but, if people can hate for no reason, why can’t I love?
