Skirby: "...Sounds kinda dangerous." Narx: "Fine, I'll go myself!" Skirby: "...!! Wait, don't go without me!"
Be curious, strand yourself on volcanic rock, become corrupted by a parasitic crown, lie to people, gain unlimited power, die, return from hell stronger, run a successful business, go home, apologize to your friends, build some games, go dimension hopping to build the universe's best theme park, learn some funny things about yourself along the way, bop in on the mirror version of your "friend" (tbd) and accidentally wreck him in an attempt to alleviate his guilt...
(Manager Magolor is well aware of Marx's secret tells, including the ones his Mirror self inherited. But Mirror Marx certainly wasn't ready for a Magolor who is more truthful to himself and others, knows to cherish his friends whenever he gets the chance, and understands that Marx does have a heart and whatever he says, if he directly "killed" a friend, it could have only been unplanned/an accident.)
I'll leave the question of whether Mirror Marx and Mirror Kirby succeeded in bringing Mirror Magolor back to life up to everyone's interpretations. That's all for this little AU for now!
(Speaking of, how many Marx and Magolor AUs do I even have now?! Gotta finish up the Perma-death Swap AU because that got Marxolor-tinged too at the end >///>)

Kris' motivation behind being the roaring knight and the involvement of the player
I know, it is not completely confirmed if Kris is indeed the roaring knight or if they just listened to what Queen said and tried it themself, but I want to talk about the possibility of what it would mean if Kris truly is the roaring knight, specifically their motivations behind it and how they impacted the story.
So what does point to Kris being the roaring knight in the first place?
Aside from the end of the last chapter where they indeed opened a dark fountain there have been enough means and chances to do so for chapter 1 and 2 as well, seeing as Kris is able to do as they please without the players interference when they get rid of the soul for a bit. This way we can't observe what they are doing at all, giving them ample time to create dark fountains.
Now with that out of the way...why should Kris want to do that?
I have heard of theories that go from escapism to resetting to time loops and such, but what if it is far more personal than this?
Let's talk about Asriel for example. He is away to college, that is what the whole town tells Kris and us. And he is supposed to be back soon. He shared a room with Kris and won prices, his side is positively spotless.
How come?
Does Toriel clean the room all the time? Why didn't Asriel take most of his stuff with him?
It didn't seem like he was visiting regularly.
Of course that alone doesn't have to mean anything, but the way the townspeople continue to talk about Asriel, it almost sounds as if they want to shove it down Kris and our throat that Asriel is away at college and coming back soon, reminiscing about the past.
So...what if Asriel is not away at college at all... What if he is dead, or in a coma?
We all know that something has happened with Noelle's sister December, aka Dess, we also know that Asgore had to step down as chief of the police and that something happened to cause him and Toriel to divorce.
So what if all of that is connected?
Even if nothing whatsoever happened to Asriel and he really is away at college the rest of that theory would still work out, so please bear with me.
Alright, so if something happened to Asriel, why would the town go out of their way to tell us and Kris otherwise?
Because whatever happened traumatized Kris. They literally can't remember what happened, maybe they even hallucinate that Asriel is talking to them, so to help them heal Toriel has everyone pretend that Asriel is still with them. After a while she of course wants to gently get Kris away from the delusion they spun to protect themself, so she sends Asriel to college.
So why is everyone saying he is coming back now?
Perhaps she thinks it's time to tell Kris the truth, or she realized that they're not doing better at all without their Asriel around, maybe, if Asriel was in a coma, he is showing signs of waking up from it.
Similarly, even without the Asriel aspect, the events of whatever happened back then that caused his family to split up and Dess to not be with them anymore, could have a similar effect of trauma on Kris that they repressed to protect themself.
In that scenario Asriel might have gone to college to escape that event haunting him as well.
Now with all that in mind, why would Kris want to create dark fountains if not to escape reality?
For that we need to establish what the dark world spaces are. We have seen three as of now. Two of them seemed to have a theme and correspondence to certain people.
Lancer's world being connected to Susie, while Queen's world very much linked to Noelle. So wouldn't it make sense for the first world we see, Ralsei's, to be connected to someone as well?
That is Kris' link.
The dark world is like a mirror verse of sorts, it screens your soul and lures out all that is in it, the good and bad, absolutely everything, every emotional struggle and turmoil.
So the person that enters them adds to the world being shaped.
Why would Kris want that?
Because they want to remember what happened to split their family apart like this?
What caused their dad to step down as chief, why their parents split up and why Asriel is not with them.
So obviously they try their own dark world first, but Ralsei alone doesn't give them enough clues, so they create another one, right next to the original one in school to get to the bottom of this.
Why get Susie then?
That wasn't the plan at all. Kris wanted Noelle to come with them. They didn't plan for Susie to show up to class, cause most of the time she skips anyways. And this way their plan begins to backfire. Not only are they not able to get Noelle to partner with them and maybe get her to the closet, Susie eats the chalk and gets send to it to get another pack.
Hence Susie and Kris getting into the dark world together. Susie shapes the dark world after her soul, her wish for acceptance and friendship as well as her problems with her father being rather prominent there...as well as the rather...'difficult' puzzles that greet us on our way.
So why this whole adventure quest angle?
Well, that is us, the player, our wish and desire to escape reality and be a hero on a quest to save everyone. Obviously our soul inside Kris is swapping over as well, probably to shroud Kris' own goals that way.
For Kris it just means they have to try again, this time at a place where Noelle definitely is quite often, even without their input, the library computer room.
Why target Noelle at all?
Because she was also there when everything happened. Even if she wasn't allowed, couldn't tell them or plainly couldn't really remember as well, her dark realm would give Kris some answers, but it only sparsely did and highlights more of Noelle's current problems with her mother and her insecurities of being too weak than what happened with her sister, so it is not giving Kris the answers they seek.
So for this time they make sure to get the right parties involved, their mother and the police, because if anyone knows what had happened at that fateful day, it was them.
All in all, Kris motivation for being the roaring knight stems from their quest and need for answers, no matter at what cost, though I am not sure if they're gonna like what they find.
We as the player are essentially a tool to them to close the unnecessary fountains and to cloak themself with our obvious enjoyment of adventures.
But hey, it's Toby Fox, who knows, maybe the dog is the roaring knight XD

...Apparently, everyone's been waiting on this one!
It's an excellent question! And I spent a long time agonizing over it. I mentioned on stream that I was heartbroken someone came up with "Mime Marx" before me. How DO you worsen Marx when he's already crazy, scheming, and randomly violent? The answer?
...You make him LAZY too.
Skirby: "Maybe we could wish on Galactic Nova...?" Narx: "Have a blast. Lemme know if you manage to find it."
Oh, he's still dastardly intelligent and loves chaos. But ambitious? Pfft! Why waste his time setting the world on fire when everyone else is doing it for him? He's maintained a friendship with Shadow Kirby in this world, because betrayal is work, but he's no hero.
He's Nero playing the fiddle while Mirror Dream Land burns.

For Magolor, the Dimension Mirror drastically heightened his bitterness, to the point that he can't even lie his way through...
...Hmm?
An explanation:
"Why is Mirror Magolor dead," you ask?
See, I've been thinking a lot about what Twitter Magolor said about the Dimension Mirror, that nothing would come out if he looked into it. Now, of course it could just be a joke at the fact that Magolor is sooooo truthful and good the idea of a "bad" Magolor would be impossible! He HAS no bad traits to amplify~ ^o^
But I assumed that, much like the Halcandran thing, that too was one of his lies. So, what does that mean...? See, Magolor in the main timeline winds up... kinda all powerful if you think about it? Magical powers enhanced from a life or death struggle with the Master Crown plus a legendary ship capable of traveling dimensions. But with a character who can travel to multiple dimensions/timelines at will, you need to have some way to balance them.
Not every Magolor can be a dimension hopper, right?
So, we offset this via making Magolor almost universally doomed. The being known as Magolor is so cross-cosmically misfortunate, that EVERY OTHER Magolor outside of the main timeline Magolor no longer exists, because they've all met with an awful fate!
Just like our Magolor almost did. He was the lone survivor, thanks to Kirby.
Now, did Mirror Marx really kill Mirror Magolor?
...Not with a knife or anything! If he had killed Mirror Magolor in that way, Magolor would have known. Did Marx set up Magolor to be killed from Marx's point of view? ...Absolutely.
Does Marx also regret doing this? ...You do know what blog you're on, right? XD

Before everyone's like, "Damn, Dess, you said you wanted to make Dark Matter Swordsman a tragic bad guy like Queen Sectonia and President Haltmann but Noir's life is implausibly bad???"
Oh trust me, I have various HC that Joronia's life was pretty awful too, going from her happy (?) childhood to "Sectonia."
And I know someone's going to ask, so let me elaborate! XD
In the Dess-verse, the various insectoid species of Popstar were a collection of small, constantly-warring, bloodthirsty nations. Joronia's tiny kingdom was the smallest. She trained from a young age in military and magic arts because unlike the others, she HAD to fight on the frontlines. They didn't have enough power without her.
Her first parasitic bodyswap was not by choice.
The young queen was struck with a mortal wound on the battlefield. Taranza, drawing forth powerful magic he never knew he could harness before the trauma of seeing his best friend bleeding out before his eyes, immediately incapacitated the enemy commander and dragged their healthy body before her as a suitable vessel.
She initially had no intentions of relying on this power. It was Taranza who begged her to do it. For herself, for her people... for him. Please, you can't die, Joronia. She was so weak she couldn't even SEE what she was doing at this point, left to follow bloodborn instincts and half-remembered stories from queens past...
...She wakes up later from death in the very body of the person who tormented and enslaved her people and "killed" her. (Definitely not traumatic. Nope, nope.) A~nd that could be said to be the beginning of her obsession with beauty and bodyswapping.
Taranza would later get her the mirror, of course. He knew it was in some way magical and actually hoped it would help Joronia to always see "her true beauty" regardless of what body she was in. And well, we know how the story played out from that....
(Meanwhile, Max's tragedy wasn't a constant stream of death and body horror happening to HIM - it happened to the people he loved...)
BONUS:
"Why yes, I can be trusted with Kirby characters...!"
Dedede - former lab animal; only survivor of his species Marx - sleep deprivation; uncontrollable mutations Adeleine - raised in a post-apocalypse; dead brother Dark Matter Swordsman - COUGH COUGH COUGH Dark Meta Knight - lover turned into a meatsuit; rendered mute Daroach - lab animal subjected to numerous experiments Magolor - severe, lasting mental and physical trauma Sectonia - forced body-swaps and boatloads of paranoia
(The sad thing is, I'm probably missing several characters! Though I tried to stick to those I'd given non-canonical trauma to. Meta Knight's potential war vet status, and the Haltmanns, the Mages, and Leongar + Fecty's stories are all there on the page, mostly.)

What are a few theories you have to say in regards to the Mirror World?
[Edit: Wow, this ask was well timed! Happy KatAM release!]
M-Mirror World... :shivers: ... I mean, n-no! Why would I be scared talk about the mirror world?! That's r-ridiculous! :knows that everyone else already has much better mirror HC than me:
Err, in truth though, I do get a little nervous when asked about the mirror world because I really never paid that much attention to it at the time?! It just seemed like a cutesy gimmick for a game and I guess I didn't see the massive potential many other fans saw in it.
When it showed up again in TDX, I was like "Ohhhh! ...Huh." and when DMK returned for Star Allies, I was like "...I guess we're sticking with this now?!" (Speaking of, I was really ambivalent on DMK at the time but have since adopted the edgy boy as one of my blorbos mostly because everyone else seems to kind of hate him/have nothing interesting for him except to have him swear even more than MK -purportedly does? And well, Dess loves an underdog!)
Anyway, I've said it once and I'll say it again (and again and again until I finally finish drawing "Through a Mirror Darkly", the prequel to "Unspoken") I think Dark Meta Knight was a double agent...!
I think he was "working" for Dark Mind only to the degree necessary to overthrow him. Why else would he split Kirby into four equally powerful selves when Necrodeus proved it was indeed possible to simply weaken the powerful, pink, and puffy?! Because come on, he's Meta Knight's shadow given form! Why does that instantly mean he has to be significantly dumber than Meta Knight?! Why can't he be as clever and farsighted as the champion fighter?
Remember how Meta is very subtly implied to have trained Kirby to face off against Nightmare during Adventure? I hold that DMK was doing the same thing, having given up on training his verse's own Kirby. DMK being a secret dark hero would certainly make sense as to why Kirby handily invites him to join the hero party in Star Allies!
(As for why he attacks Dedede out of nowhere, well, I believe he probably has... complex feelings regarding his own Dedede(1))
Err, sorry, I know this wasn't specifically about DMK... Let's talk about the Mirror World in general! It's very... hmm. It's very...unknown?
Trying to piece together (haha...) the mirror world based on the information we have now feels like trying to count sands of grain in a jar from a distance. Or trying to correctly guess the Ancient's backstory as revealed in Star Allies using only what we know in RtDL.
I think, by the time Kumazaki and the team are ready to return to it, we're going to be pretty shocked by what we find out! But as long as we're not interested in correctly guessing something (...that HAL themselves probably don't know EVERYTHING about) but simply want to bandy ideas back and forth about what we know...
I myself am most interested in a) it's timeline b) the logic behind Mirror World residents c) how/if does it stand on it's own?
If the Dimension Mirror is an Ancient Artifact, and it has all the signs of one, so I don't see any reason it shouldn't be (I even speculated once the mirror's wings could be based on Elfy) then it is OLD. Pre-fall of Halcandra old. In which case, the Mirror Dimension should be at least that old, right? But what even IS "the mirror dimension?"
Because Amaz(e)ing Mirror showed us a series of multiple interconnected worlds, linked by much smaller mirrors. And let's think about the name for a second: "The Dimension Mirror." Why would the Ancients create something that just makes ONE dimension? And the dimension in question is one where everything kinda sucks??? That... doesn't make any logical sense.
I think the original purpose behind the creation of the Dimension Mirror was to, quite simply, make a portal. The Mirror could have been the predecessor to the Lor Starcutter even! A kind of "stargate." Using it, you can see into MULTIPLE different dimensions, and potentially travel to the ones you wish to using smaller gate like mirrors scattered all over the place. (2)
But, like everything they built, the Dimension Mirror was a two-edged sword. And there came si~de effe~cts! We generally know that the Mirror Residents are like "worse" version of the people we've seen so far. So just imagine that everyone who traveled through the Dimension Mirror to get to some other dimension... left a copy of themselves behind? Similar to one of the more grisly theories on how matter transportation might be possible: that the best you could do would be to perfectly clone/replicate someone in a different position, all their memories intact, while quietly destroying the original as they :cough: teleport. BAM! "You" have now been transported!
With that in mind, the more it is used, the more copies are created, and thus... the birth of the Mirror World? It's certainly possible!
Why are they "evil" though? Well... that could be the "side effect" of wicked power developed off of the suffering of baby chinchillas or it could be that they aren't really all that "evil" to begin with.
Again, I argue that Dark Meta Knight is not really evil Meta Knight at all. (You can write the "corruption theory" for the purposes of fanfic or fan ideas or whatever but I WILL tear my hair out if you try to convince me/you believe it 100% based on evidence in game.) I think Dark Meta Knight is simply Meta Knight unleashed.
Shadow Kirby was considered worthy of being the "hero" of the Mirror Dimension. Bloody King Dedede is kind of a jerk but so was regular Dedede in the past. Plus, going by the stomach in the mouth thing, King Bloody seems to still be possessed by Dark Matter so we can't really know what he's like on a good day!
And then there are critters like King Golem, who is almost unmistakably Whispy Woods just built out of bricks and stone.
So, Mirror Residents simply misunderstood? I'd wager so.
But where is it and why does it persist? Those are all good questions that I don't have the answer to. I might have theories down the line... Are there mirror versions of the rest of the Star Allies? I suppose there could be, if any of them hopped through the mirror/got a really close look at it at any point! Do the people created by the Dimension Mirror truly "exist independently" at this point?
I... I don't know. To be honest, I think one really just has to work with the story that is the most interesting to them. Like... going by my theory above, the first Mirror Dream Lander would be DMK, the second would be Shadow Kirby, and the third would be Bloody Dedede, right? Or... is it?
In Dess's Unspoken-verse, Shadow Dedede has been around long before the days of Triple Deluxe and even before Amazing Mirror began. (Although that does make sense, given the Dark Matter thing would place his existence around at least Dream Land 2) So... Did King Dedede see the mirror BEFORE Triple Deluxe or are there Mirror versions of everyone already? Honestly, because the mirror seems positioned in the sky over Popstar, you could say that anyone who's taken a walk on a sunny day has a mirror duplicate out there!
But Magolor implied on Twitter he wouldn't have a mirror duplicate?! Is he just making a joke about his own wickedness/two-facedness? Did HE actually come from the mirror dimension originally or did he already kill (?!) his own mirror counterpart?!
TLDR, I have NO idea. But I think that until HAL comes back with more info N number of years down the line, it's fine to engage in writing whatever mirror HC suit you and continue to come up with fun and interesting mirror versions of the rest of the cast.
Speaking of, I still need to make my Mirror Marx + Magolor...
...
PS: Oh yeah, and are they all MADE of mirrors?! DMK sure seems to be but honestly, what does that even mean for them?! And how was he permanently scarred? Did the piece of mirror that got broken off when Meta Knight attacked him become lost sometime between that and the end of his fight with the Kirbys?!
...Mysteries...
-
(1) The way I ship Meta Knight x Dedede - when I ship it - is entirely under the table. No hugs, no kisses, no confessions, no ceremonies. They don't even admit to "loving" each other in that way. They are just "very important" (tm) to each other. Yadda-yadda-sworn-partners-yadda. But, because I'm me and I enthusiastically love tragedy, I like to imagine that Shadow Dedede and Dark Meta Knight were in love in exactly the way Meta Knight and Dedede weren't.
Keyword "were." Also "tragedy." You can figure out the rest I'm sure. ^_-
(2) So you notice how those portal mirror things kinda sorta vaguely resemble the goal doors? What are the chances that eventually, the Ancients DID figure out portal technology w/o evil twin side-effects and Popstar's goal doors are exactly that?!
#Kirby#Kirby series#Dark Meta Knight#Shadow Dedede#Mirror World Kirby#ShadowDedeDMK mention#H-how do you even that pairing name??

What boss fight would you want to have in a mainline Kirby game? Even though I miss dark matter blade I’d definitely explode if they made shadow Kirby into a super hard mainline boss,,I think we deserve to feel what it’s like to fight kirby !!!! Also what’s ur two cents on what the two designs mean for the Kirby timeline(was the white eye form in the past or??? shadow Kirby mask confuses me a bunch)
I seriously want to fight Drawcia again. As a true Kirby boss fight! She's way too cool to be confined to a stylus-based spinoff game.
Speaking of, can we take a moment to celebrate the fact that she quietly went from boss of a "non-canon" spinoff (1) game to making into into the main series via a Merry Magoland dress-up mask? I'm so thrilled for my favorite sorceress!
(1) Dess dislikes this hardline separation between "canon" and "non-canon" and feel it just takes away from the fun of things. Plus, everything might as well be canon now that Kirby is a multiverse??
But UGH the Shadow Kirby thing! It's so confusing, isn't it?
I mean, it's a little hard to complain too much when King Dedede also keeps switching designs between games (they even kept his Star Allies design in DX in the form of a statue. I don't blame them for keeping the Star Allies statues because they were The Best but seriously?! What's it all mean?!)
At this point, I guess we have to assume that the vortex-looking, white-eyed Shadow Kirby IS what Kirby's supposed to look like...? I mean, it's not the first time Mirror Dimension designs have shifted. I'm not even sure that Dark Meta Knight's design was "finalized" in his first appearance. (And now we have an alternate DMK too thanks to the dress-up masks??) We also don't know if Shadow Dedede is still going to look like he did in Triple Deluxe, or if he would resemble D-Mind more if he were to show up again...
Another possibility is that maybe...Shadow Kirby can kind of shift between forms? And that's what they look like when they get serious? Maybe that's how the Mirror-verse version of copy abilities work?? And Shadow Kirby was certainly a go-getter in Kirby Fighters. But then, to complicate things more, we had a Shadow Kirby (GBA version) palette in Dream Buffet. Or maybe it just looked like GBA Skirby because everyone had a single color palette in that game.
I wish I had an answer but I don't...
...Mirror World, plz make sense challenge...
(A true boss-level encounter of Kirby vs Skirby would be awesome. I totally agree with you there!)
