Wow. Here's a way-back -- this is the first house I bought, back in 1976 in Denver, CO. I paid $33,000, had to work on it for months to bring it up to FHA standards. New kitchen, insulation, furnace, wiring, bathroom, screens on the windows, new doors. Did it all myself except for the wiring.
I sold it four years later for $76K when I moved to Barbados. Appraised value now is $750K+ (despite the garish paint scheme!).
