After finally receiving recognition as a legitimate genre, superhero movies have done what many achievers of greatness have- become egotistical to the point of complacent laziness. So many dreadful, repetitive storylines with the alleged heroes serving no purpose outside of personifying an agenda.
Even during the 'bad' era, most of the movies were at least entertaining. What ever happened to our heroes inspiring and uplifting-
No. Freaking. Way. Definitive Fantastic Four 2005-2007! You're seriously here right now??
Johnny: We heard your cry clear across the dimensions and felt it our duty to help fix your busted brain.
Reed: That and we would have wound up here, anyway, thanks to Johnny playing with my inter-dimensional transport prototype.
Johnny: A prototype I was duty bound to play with.
ATG: I don't care if you came here via Greyhound. I thought I'd never see you guys again. The X-Men have been popping in and their non-animated stuff is....
Ben: A rancid hot mess?
Johnny: Criminally retarded?
Sue: Overrated even when they're underrated?
Reed: A phenomenon of failure too preposterous for even Stephen Hawking to compute?
ATG: That's the short list, bur unfair comes to mind, too. They got a bazillion movies to butcher, but you guys only got two. Geez, the entire Marvel fandom is certifiably insane.
Reed: Regurgitated lowbrow entertainment thrives on recent technological advances. The implementation of computerized flash and spectacle appeals to the pleasure center of the laymen's brain. It causes a slow but inevitable decay in analytical objectivity, reducing intellect to a puerile husk. To say nothing of the pessimism that's pervaded current day cinema and subliminally fractured the human psyche to unprecedented proportions.
Ben: Basically, these studios make mad bank servin' up discount Dark Knight flicks to them shallow wannabe edge-lords.
Sue: Not to mention following it up with a dessert of crude stupidity wrapped in an R-rating.
Johnny: So, Bat-Bale and Deadfool. *Scoffs* And here I thought I was the narcissistic showman.
ATG: I get all of that, believe me. And I freaking hate it because all they have on you guys is not enough fight scenes. Now, all these movies have like 90% action that I use for bathroom breaks.
Reed: Standard Hollywood extremism. They can imitate the sensation of flying through the sky with blue elves yet middle ground sensibility continues to allude them.
Sue: We know what our movies meant to you, Princess. They're among the few superhero DVDs you own. Silver Surfer is still the only time you've gone to the theater by yourself, isn't it?
ATG: Fantastic doesn't begin to describe it.
Ben: You went all out with pizza and snacks. One of the rare gems that stands out from a not-so-golden time in your life, right?
ATG: Ohh yeah. No joke.
Johnny: At least you ended up getting sweet vengeance without lifting a finger. That fan-4-stick isn't even dead and buried. That crap got cremated and pimp-slapped by St. Peter.
ATG: *Grins* YESSSS! That garbage helped kick off all of this ridiculous race-swapping.
Ben: Yeah, they tried to clobber poor Jessica Alba for making Sue look like she caught a tan, but some preening punk with a stolen NBA name was supposed to be progress?
Sue: Why was there a need to change Storm family history that drastically? Our past is a tiny bit significant to our sibling dynamic and personalities.
Reed: If they'd casted a black actor for me or Ben it wouldn't have been nearly as jarring.
Johnny: Yeah, until the social justice whiners started complaining about Black Ben being the Thing most of the movie.
TGA: These executives are insultingly transparent. They wouldn't make Reed black because they don't believe a black scientific genius could carry a film. And Sue stayed white so they didn't have to show an interracial couple in the marketing.
Johnny: So, just blacken the impulsive guy and have him be an obnoxious clown every second... Nope, no offensive implications there.
ATG: Okay, if we're talking about offensive implications, we need to discuss *Not*-Captain America.
Johnny: Oh, that son of a-
Sue: Jonathan Storm....
Johnny: Sorry, sis, but come on! Talk about a slap in the face. How does a guy go from the Human Torch to the Patron Saint of Patriotism?!
Ben: Gotta agree there, flame brain. That was a low blow.
Sue: One of many reasons the MCU's not for you?
ATG: And it'd go against my pre-determined status as the obscurity oddball.
Ben: You think that's all on you? Even before I became a livin' rock collection, you have any idea what it's like to have a scientific mind paired up with the heart of a Brooklyn bum? Studyin' gamma rays in a sea of borderline aspergers geeks.
Reed: How very eloquent, best friend.
Ben: Ah, can the mush, Stretch.
Sue: How about being strong and powerful yet needing femnazi consent to conduct ourselves like women? Granted, Chris Evans needs our permission to expand his acting horizons, but that's different.
ATG; You're right and yes, it is.
Reed: What you're feeling comes down to the psychological yearn to blend into the herd under the assumption that it would make for a simpler existence. You already know that no true joy is found in a herd mentality. From cowardice and conformity. It's too unnatural for people like us.
ATG: Us, Bendy the Science Guy?
Reed: Affirmative, Grand Princess of Snark. Work-home-play-school, whatever the setting or featured players, to some extent we're always the square peg crammed into a round hole. It's isolating but invaluable.
ATG: What do you mean?
Reed: That odd-man-out feeling is a symptom of something much bigger. We view and perceive the world around us differently from most. Whether it's innovation or the written word, we couldn't do what we do without it. And if we couldn't do what we do, we'd amount to no more than animated corpses.
Johnny: Gotta say, the zombie scene's not for you. You used to be a blazing Torch with those typing fingers. Now, you're a watered down Invisible Writer Woman.
Sue: This stray vermin my parents claimed to be my brother has something vaguely resembling a point. You did used to relish in your powers like Johnny. Now, it's as if you're as unsure as Ben and I used to be about ours.
Ben: Susie and me also know firsthand what a number setbacks and heartbreak can do to ya. It ain't easy buildin' yourself back up. Gettin' all the pieces back in place won't make you whole again, though. It'll make you about a hundred times better than you ever thought possible.
ATG: I want to believe that. At least as much as I want to stop dreading I'll crumble.
Johnny: You can't forge a new fire without risking a few burns, Fire Cat.
Reed: That's how a scrawny Jewish kid from Queens became a legend.
Johnny: That's how a puny little dweeb swung right past sidekick and straight to hero.
Sue: That's how an X-traordinary team of outcasts came together.
Ben: And how the First Family of Superheroes was formed. Don't care what those creepy Bat-sneaks say.
Sue: We've been with you for more than 15 years and our two scripts combined aren't even half of what you've written in 10. You'll never fully know all the people you've touched and inspired. All the ones yet to come.
ATG: Thanks, you guys. Soooo much.
Johnny: For our biggest fan? It's the least the Definitive Four can do.
Ben: We better head back. I'm making quesadillas tonight.
Reed: Don't stretch yourself or that snark tongue too thin *heads for the radiant inter-dimensional portal*
ATG: I'm still in the 12-step program.
Ben: Speaking of which, don't do drugs.
ATG: What's that? 😇
Ben: There's the 90s kiddo we know and love.
Johnny: *Starts in after Ben but glances back* Let's get one thing straight, Fire Cat.... I'll always be your Johnny Storm. Not even those Disney-douches can change that.
ATG: And I'll always carry a torch for you.
Johnny: *Salutes and flames out*
Sue: *After the men go through* You sure you're okay?
ATG: I still can't get over how unfair it is. You're the best Marvel movie superheroine. I'm sick of the mary-sue crew stealing your rightful recognition.
Sue: Agreed and appreciated. Now, what are you gonna do about it?
ATG: 😁
Sue: 😁 Just remember, actual strong women don't cancel.
ATG: No.... We create.

remember earlier during the current fantastic four run where every other solicitation would reference "johnny's big secret", johnny and wyatt were acting like a married couple and also whatever was going on with half of johnny's dialogue during issue 650 and everyone tought this was it johnny storm is gonna come out finally and then he didn't
Someone had a theory when Fantastic Four suddenly started going off road from the solicits -- a lot of talk about Johnny and a big life-changing secret, a lot of emphasis on Johnny in general that went nowhere -- that there had actually been a plan in place for Johnny to come out, but that around that time something shifted with the development plans for an MCU Fantastic Four film and that as a result the storyline was pulled. Personally I think we don’t have enough information for me to buy into that theory entirely, but it is plausible. I think it’s pretty clear there was SOME sort of Johnny storyline that did get either pulled entirely (my bet) or shelved for later, although whether it involved his sexuality is difficult to say. For example, the solicit for issue #7 of the current run contained this line: “This dilemma, plus a strange new development in the life of the Human Torch.” Note that this is very soon after Ben and Alicia’s wedding and Ben and Johnny’s big “be brave” conversation that sounded a lot like foreshadowing for Johnny’s coming out. Wyatt was still very much in the picture at this point in time. And then the actual issue came out and there weren’t any developments for Johnny in it at all.
Then there’s the Spyre plot, which I’ve mentioned is frustrating for me to talk about before because it’s just so badly developed. And I’m not saying Slott isn’t just a lousy enough writer that this wasn’t his plan all along, but the thing is it reads like the direction of it got switched halfway through. There’s a lot of foreshadowing about Ben not being the one who landed the rocket in the beginning (this goes nowhere) and as of yet there’s no payoff to the Johnny and Sky “soulmates” plot -- and I’ve said before that this plot would have pretty much been the perfect place for Johnny to be able to assert himself and claim some autonomy in his romantic life by saying that even if a magic alien planet says so, this isn’t what he wants for himself and that he knows his own desires and is finally prepared to own them. Which isn’t what happened and now he’s just stuck in weird alien stalker limbo. Again.
It’s very frustrating, especially in part because we know there have been conversations with actual creators at Marvel about Johnny’s sexuality. Barring even my theory that Byrne wanted him to come out during his run but wasn’t allowed to make that happen, there’s always been a lot of meta commentary surrounding Johnny, like Hulk vs Thing Hard Knocks’ offhand comment about his being light in the asbestos loafers, Marjorie Liu’s confirmation that he and Daken slept together during her run on Dark Wolverine, and the homophobic attack against him in Dark Reign: Zodiac. Marvels Snapshots: Fantastic Four contained a lot of subtext in this area, from a joke about Johnny “coming out” (as a superhero) before one of his classmates, a gay man, to Dorrie Evans’ discussion about how it felt like the Human Torch -- Johnny’s true flaming nature -- was a competitor with her for his affections. And I have extremely mixed feelings on how Zdarsky wrote Johnny and Peter’s relationship in his Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man run, where I feel like some of the interaction fell distinctly into a territory that I don’t want to label queerbaiting exactly but felt a lot more like scenes that were written with the direct goal of having the panels go around shipper circles on the internet (and Zdarsky is very fandom savvy) than they were written with the goal of genuinely exploring the relationship between the characters, but for the greater conversation it can’t be denied that the series regularly shown a romantic light (for the sake of a joke or otherwise) onto Johnny’s feelings for Spider-Man. So this is all happening, and then we get the “be brave, Johnny Storm” conversation in FF v6 #5 which definitely feels like it was supposed to lead into something more than just another unmemorable heterosexual fling that has no chemistry and won’t work out:
And then someone chickened out. Slott? Brevoort? Cebulski? Someone in connection to a possible Fantastic Four MCU movie, where quite possibly they’re going to want to return to the 2005/07 script of Chris Evans’ Johnny hyper-heterosexual skirt chaser? We don’t have enough information to make that kind of call. But it looks a whole lot like one of two options: either someone balked, or no one here ever had the kishkes to begins with.

Doctored and Doomed: How Pre-Production Ruined Fantastic Four
Some say The Fantastic Four’s 2015 reboot was a promising project that’s struggles during production led to its box office demise, but my research suggests that the film was doomed before production began; the later struggles only dug a deeper grave.
Director of the film Josh Trank, known for his previous work directing the low budget film Chronicle, was chosen to work on the movie in hopes that he would present an original take on the series. Trank’s success on the film would prove that he could bring his originality to the screen with a big budget and established characters, sealing the deal for him to lead the, now-cancelled, stand alone Boba Fett film (3). 20th Century Fox had the largest financial stake in the film and needed the reboot to be a bigger success than the films from 2005-2007. The greater pressure on Fox, however, was to release the movie quickly. Fox’s deal with Marvel for the franchise’s movie rights was only set to last until 2016, therefore, if the series had not been rebooted and released by the end of 2015, they were going to lose all rights to Fantastic Four (6). While Marvel was not involved in the making of the film, their stake in the film is just as important to note. Both Trank and Fox needed the Fantastic Four reboot to succeed, but Marvel needed it to fail as much as possible. As Marvel had given up the rights to the franchise, only upon failure could the series be returned to their hands and be given the Marvel Cinematic Universe touch that has put them at the top of the superhero craze.
When it comes to the actual production of the film, clashes and conflicts occurred at every turn. The original concept for the film that Fox intended was to go for an older cast, with well-known actors like Adrien Brody and Keifer Sutherland to give the action film some star power (9). However, once Trank was chosen as the director, it was clear that there were key creative differences at play. Trank had envisioned the film as more of a sci-fi storytelling film, intending it to set up the characters for greater adventures in the next two films of the trilogy (2). Fox, however, wanted the film to be a blockbuster; filled with action and plenty of Michael Bay-esque explosions and special effects. Anyone who is familiar with the series knows that Fantastic Four is all about their family dynamic and story rather than action and angst (2).
Disputes over whose take would be more successful locked the script in perpetual limbo, leaving cast and crew lost in the mix. Without a finished script, costumes could only vaguely be designed and sets focused on the simplicity of the concrete and cinderblock rooms seen throughout the majority of the film (4). When the script was finally settled, they had decided to loosely base the movie around the Marvel Ultimate Series version of the Fantastic Four. These incarnations of the team are much younger and by casting younger actors, Fox hoped to lure in a younger audience (6). On top of giving the franchise a more youthful feel, the general grit included in Hollywood in recent years gave Fox what they thought was the kingpin they were looking for. The film’s screenwriter Simon Kinberg began rewriting the script with more angst, hoping that this new serious tone would balance perfectly with character’s lighthearted banter. As the script was still being changed when shooting began, the greatest detail was spent on smaller aspects of the film that were definite, like the layout of the lab and the travel pods, while a rushed job was done on costumes. This meant that Dr. Doom would have a poorly made plastic mask, Johnny’s suit would not match Sue’s or Reed’s and The Thing would not have any shorts. Throughout filming, it was said that Trank was very volatile and unpredictable, getting angry at actors and telling them, “when to blink and when to breathe” as well as arriving late and disappearing from set for days on end (5). It is also reported that the director and Miles Teller did not get along on set and that many Fox executives wanted him removed. After seeing an early cut of the film and being dissatisfied with it, Fox decided it was due to set Trank loose and began reshoots (8). The rush of re-shoots is once again shown in costumes as the wig used for Sue’s hair is too blonde and doesn't match the ombre style seen earlier in the film (1).
Now we have to think about the tragic commercial failure of the film. An early sign that the final product was well below expectations came when the studio withheld early reviews of the film, only allowing them to be published three days before the theatrical release. This began a storm online among critics and excited fans alike, putting more media coverage on the supposed failure before anyone could judge it for themselves. If this wasn’t a big enough reason for moviegoers to stay home, Trank himself tweeted, “I had a fantastic cut of Fantastic Four a year ago, too bad you'll never see it” the day before its nationwide release (3). As seen in the behind the scenes footage there were scenes involving the Fantasticar and Johnny Storm’s involvement in building it (1). There were also scenes that suggest greater closeness of both Sue and Johnny’s characters as seen when he appears to be injured and she is holding him in her arms. Greater support of Trank’s claim comes from the trailers that imply a greater exposition on the characters of Ben, Sue and Johnny, and not just a focus on Reed.
While it is possible that the idea that fans would never get to see the better film turned them off from seeing the disappointing version, I believe Marvel’s lack of involvement really hammered the last nail into the film’s grave. Once Marvel knew a Fantastic Four reboot was in the works, they canceled the production of the Fantastic Four comic, stating that they didn't want to make any new characters or storylines that could be used in the new films (6). In addition, Marvel did not allow Fox to do their own merchandising for the film (7). While this may not seem like a huge loss at first glance, think back to the most recent Star Wars films. People were raving about BB-8 and cosplaying Rey months in advance of the trilogy’s original release even though they had no clue who these characters were. Mass marketing is essential to superhero and action films geared towards a younger audience and Fox missed out on all of that possible traction, and, at the least, product revenue.
In the end, the Fantastic Four was a flop because no right decisions were made from start to finish. Well…maybe the choice to cast Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm was this film’s golden moment, but the work of one person is not nearly enough to save this film from its downfalls. Now that years have passed and the flop status of the film has hurt the franchise, it is difficult to tell if the film rights returning to Marvel’s hands will be enough to make the upcoming film taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe a success (10), but we can cross our fingers and hope that there is a better continuation to the Fantastic story that could redeem the franchise ahead.

William Koehler had served as principal trainer at the War Dog Training Center, in California, and after the war became chief trainer for the Orange Empire Dog Club—at the time, the largest dog club in the United States—instructor for a number of breed clubs, and a dog trainer for the Walt Disney Studios.[18] In 1962 Koehler published The Koehler Method of Dog Training, in which he is highly critical of what he calls “tid-bit training techniques” based in “the prattle of ‘dog psychologists'”.[17] Amongst the training innovations attributed to Koehler is the use of a long line in conjunction with a complete absence of oral communication as a way of instilling attentiveness prior to any leash training. Koehler insisted that participants in his training classes used “emphatic corrections”, including leash jerks and throw chains, explaining that tentative, nagging corrections were cruel in that they caused emotional disturbance to the dog.[19] Vicki Hearne, a disciple of Koehler’s, commented on the widespread criticism of his corrections, with the explanation that it was the emotionally loaded language used in the book that led to a number of court cases, and to the book being banned in Arizona for a time.[20] Despite the controversy, his basic method forms the core of many contemporary training systems.[21] 8 + 12 = Blue Mountains Shelter Dog Training Classes Group classes held in Ringwood, Thursday Evenings and Sunday Mornings. But we’re lucky: dogs are extremely adaptable. And soon enough, if you use it consistently, he will respond to his new name. (Nova 96.9FM) TV programme Template:How Many Teeth Do Dogs Have? Springing Into Another List of Convertibles
Repetition inspires varied emotions here in New England. Pats fans nearly lost their minds in February, when Tom Brady and company managed to mount an insane comeback to win another Super Bowl. But we were much less happy about the blizzard last Saturday, exactly 20 years after an even bigger April Fools’ Day snowstorm and one brief year after Snowmageddon. Happily, our forecast calls for 60 degrees and sunshine on Tuesday, when we’ll head to the Javits Convention Center in NYC to cover the New York International Auto Show.
We visited the Detroit Auto Show in January, so have already seen some fantastic 2018s, but we can’t wait to meet the new Dodge Demon, Buick Regal, Volvo XC60, Subaru Crosstrek, and Audi RS3, among others. We’ll spare ourselves hours of traffic on I-95 by taking the train to get there and back, but if that weather forecast proves accurate, I know my team and I will be looking forward to top-down driving from the Acela.
Tops will drop at the first opportunity in most places that have long, cold winters, and because we find even imagining top-down driving incredibly therapeutic, we’ve put together another list of great used convertibles for you this week. We’ve published a few of these over the years, so please don’t hold it against us if we missed your favorite, but if you can confidently recommend a great used cabriolet we missed, please tell us about it. (And yes, next week we’ll tell you about what we see at the auto show.)
We’ll start with a convertible that you can’t buy new anymore. Pontiac was retired by General Motors in 2010 and produced only 20 examples that last year, but the Pontiac Solstice was one of the last new models from Pontiac, which gives it value to collectors. But collectors will likely focus on the rare GXP Coupe version, which has a targa roof instead of a convertible top. The roadster featured a 2.4-liter, 177-hp inline four the first two years, but its output dropped to 173 hp in 2008. The Solstice roadster looks fantastic, and while it can’t out-handle a Miata and you’ll have to get out to drop or raise the top, it does have a little more power. Best of all, first-year versions are available at an average price of a hair over $9K.
Today’s sixth-generation Ford Mustangs clearly recall the first generation, rather than the gas-crisis-inspired Mustang II or Vanilla Ice’s favorite, the Fox-body Mustangs of the ‘80s. Having been in uninterrupted production since its debut and offered with a range of engines and features, a wide variety of convertible fans should be able to find a Mustang to suit their tastes and budget. And if a used convertible Mustang can heighten all your senses while keeping you at peace in the twisties, as the 2017 did for Chris Wardlaw, we wish you the best of luck finding yourself one quickly. Our 2015 listings average around $27K and include the new independent rear suspension, but you can find plenty of less-experienced versions at lower prices.
If you like American convertibles but want something faster and more aggressive and won’t need to chauffeur kids, a used Chevrolet Corvette convertible might be worth a look. The Corvette is another American icon that’s been produced in multiple body styles and with a variety of powertrains, but they all look more ready for a track outing than a Mustang. The Corvette got a big redesign for 2014, and if you’ve got $60K to spend, you could end up with a current seventh-generation version, which Aaron Cole calls the best American sports car on the road. Sixth-gen versions were sold from 2005 through 2013, and while they’re not as capable, they will still be plenty of fun, and while 2013s average $49K, 2005s average just over half that.
We want this list to include a little something for car fans of all types, and while Dieselgate put a huge stain on VW’s stateside reputation, the company has built a bunch of amazing cars and still has huge fans here. The Volkswagen Eos convertible, produced from 2007 through 2016, was never a big hit with Americans, probably because it cost more but doesn’t look as good as some alternatives from the Big Three. But you’ll have to look awfully hard to find another convertible with an integrated sunroof (?), and while the Eos does not have a lot of grunt, it drives like a German car, and our used car listings include plenty available for less than $20K, with used 2010s averaging under $15K.
Folks who prefer German cars that have a little more to spend might want to consider an Audi A5 Cabriolet. Added to the A5 lineup in 2010, the A5 Cabriolet has a simple cloth roof rather than a hardtop, but the car will do all the work for you, and a soft roof takes less cargo space, too. A 2.0-liter turbo putting out 211 hp or a 3.2-liter, 265-hp V6 delivers power to the front or all four wheels via Audi’s legendary Quattro system, so the A5 can absolutely deliver driving excitement. And Audi interiors are beautiful, so you’ll be able to enjoy the A5 when the roof’s up, too. Our 2010 A5 Cabriolet listings have an average price of under $17K, but be warned that more recent examples can get much higher.
Yes, its Z3 is a blast, but BMW’s 3 Series built and maintains the company’s reputation as the maker of ultimate driving machines. The first convertible 3 Series arrived in the U.S. in 1987 with a 2.5-liter inline six that produced 168 horsepower. By 2013, the convertible was offered in multiple versions with a 3.0-liter inline six that ranged from 230 to 320 hp. With more than 25 model years to choose from and more recent years offering multiple powertrains, a used convertible BMW 3 Series can meet a wide range of budgetary and driving-excitement needs. Convertibles became part of BMW’s 4 Series lineup in 2014, but 2013 BMW 3 Series convertibles average under $23K, and you can find plenty of more-experienced examples for less.
Mercedes-Benz has always liked doing things differently, including car tops. The iconic 300 SL’s gull-wing doors were the first of their type and part of why original examples in decent shape usually command a seven-figure price. Mercedes-Benz E-Class convertibles have been offered since 1994, with engines ranging from a 3.2-liter inline six rated at 217 hp to a 4.7-liter, 402-hp V8. Like the 3 Series, the E-Class has been around a long time and has grown to include a variety of body styles and multiple engines, which means shoppers should be able to find a wide range of range of power and price points. Our 2011 E-Class cabriolets listings average just under $21,500, but again, many older versions with more miles will cost less.
Drivers with a sense of style and humor might find a MINI Cooper suits them better than a German car, despite MINI now being a division of BMW. The first convertible MINI Cooper arrived with a fully automatic top in 2005, and the second generation arrived in 2009 with the “Openometer,” which monitors the amount of time spent driving the car with the top open. The new MINIs are definitely more fun and distinctive than practical, and they are small enough that some may not enjoy driving one alongside 18-wheelers. But if you like small, funky convertibles and want a plate-size speedometer in the middle of your dashboard, a MINI is your only option. The latest generation arrived for 2014, and listings from that year average $18,300.
Chrysler’s acquisition by Fiat has returned a couple of classic Italian convertibles to the market, including two convertibles. The 124 Spider returned atop the Miata’s platform just this year, but the subcompact Fiat 500 has been sold here since 2008. Larger and crossover versions have arrived since then, but the original 500 is the only one available in convertible form. The 500 will likely appeal to some of the same folks who appreciate the MINI Cooper’s style and quirkiness, but it will cost significantly less. It was also offered in a wide range of fashionable colors with a variety of appearance packages, so you should be able to find some very distinctive examples, but it’s tiny, so can also be unnerving on the highway. The good news? Listings for 2012s average under $8,500.
The Alfa Romeo 4C is also small and Italian, but it’s an altogether different car. More so than any car on this list with the possible exception of the Corvette, the 4C looks like it was built to race. And because it arrived in 2015, used examples will be hard to find and expensive. But if you want your convertible to offer enough driving excitement to put you on the edge of your seat and you have plenty to spend, the 4C delivers. You’ll have to work a bit to get yourself into the 4C unless you’re tiny, and it doesn’t include much in the way of standard features. It’s also noisy, but that’s because its 1.7-liter inline four is in the middle of the car. That engine’s 237 hp wouldn’t sound like much fun unless you knew the 4C weighs less than 2,500 pounds, which at least makes its non-power steering less difficult to manage. The few 2015s on our site cost an average of $65K and don’t include a manual or air conditioning, but they would be a hoot on back roads, and did you see that photo?
Which is your favorite used convertible, and why?
