Going back to Nightmare King. Side story unlocked! Dedede and Nycto's Quest!

Nycto, after finishing talking to him, hangs out with his fiancé Helio when something crashes next to them. It's the king of Dreamland! His strong will broke through and was guided into the dream realm. After explanations, Nycto says that although Kirby and his father are getting enough power to defeat Aku, Aku is feeding on the dark emotions her dream clouds are gathering.

Since Nycto was gonna go by himself Dedede decides to tag along since it's his citizens that are suffering from the Leth syndrome. Thus, the journey begins as Nycto waves bye to his fiancé.

im reading this super somber military girl doujin (might be a boatgirl thing) and it really makes me realize again how important a strong sense of aesthetic is. Especially with all the Goblin Slayer mockery currently going on, the art style and generic as fuck aesthetic makes the edgy parts laughable at best. The attempted edginess has no edge.

This shipgirl doujin though is edge concentrate but the art and aesthetic just gives it an incredibly somber mood that's hard to shake off. The writing is very nice too I guess. In the form of to the point diary entries that hint to you at something human and maybe even tender, but superimposed onto the coldness of war and death.

This DJ really reminds me of girls last tour in mood.  But, well, much generally darker and moodier. Not that GLT didn't have its moments... Meaningful. That's the word I was looking for. Subtle and meaningful. Dark and edgy things are much better with a strong sense of aesthetic / mood, and subtle expressions that imply intricate, complex feelings in simple, wordless ways. Kind of reminds me of the 9 Touhou Doujin in mood. Very moody and narration-centric, with an undercurrent of unhinged. Nice.

To die in June is the doujinshi name btw. Beautiful and worth keeping imo.

PERSONALITY.

Genesis is a kind, caring figure haunted by a past only they remember- and it doesn’t matter too much in the grand scheme of things, anyway. They have taken on the role of a therapist, and their personality generally fits the stereotypical view of a therapist. Of course, they aren’t without their flaws- often trying too hard to reach a goal or blaming everything on themselves.

BACKSTORY.

Genesis is from the Forgotten Land. Or, as the residents prefer to call it, the New World.

Their origins are mostly hidden. I mean, you don’t really want to tell people that- well. I’m not going to tell you their secrets. That’s just rude. They’ll tell you when they’re ready.

Hopefully.

All I can tell you is that they have a strange connection to Fecto Forgo.

Oh, well, I’ll tell you a bit more.

Let’s see… I’m sure it was written down somewhere around here.

“Since it’s capture, ID-F85 has only shown activity once- it’s brain patterns seem to suggest that it is dreaming. But that is a fanciful observation, and we are not fanciful people. A monster cannot dream.” — Retired Lab Discovera Tour, Year Unknown

The creature known as Fecto Elfilis had split into two- Fecto Forgo and Elfilin. The Ancients had long abandoned the planet, taking off to Shiver Star. Imprisoned, alone, unable to move and lost in a world without any creatures capable of thought- yet, they drifted. They dreamed. And in their dreams surfaced memories.

A land of dust and fire. A trickster magician.

A world of flora. A sorrowful spindler.

And their own great form, lost to the cruel experiments of the people who lived here, so desperate to leave.

From those dreams, came Genesis. A creation of stardust and love. They wandered throughout the abandoned land, watching as the beasts gained intelligence, and talking with them. When trapped in a collapsing tunnel, they met Elfilin, who saved them. The two then became friends.

They also met Gamma Knight, who landed in the forgotten land after [REDACTED]. Genesis helped them flee to [REDACTED].

When the Beast Pack was formed, Genesis stayed out of the way, recognising the work of their progenitor. But when Elfilin was captured, they followed Kirby from a distance, leaving behind Maxim Tomatoes and vanishing without a trace.

When Elfilis was defeated, Elfilin and Genesis reunited, and the former took the latter to Dreamland, where they both settled.

And they decided to settle on a rather successful career.

It had been a solid five hours since Kirby had started telling Genesis about the 'monsters' they'd fought, with Dedede and Meta Knight himself chipping in when needed; sometimes to explain their actions while the puffball had been defeating the newest threat to Popstar, sometimes to correct him or add a detail. But instead of getting frustrated or tired, Genesis had only listened politely, nodding as they talked. […] "Those monsters you fought... I'd be terrified, honestly. But you've survived all of it, and you're still here, ready to face the next battle, and that means you're exceptionally resilient. But life isn't all about battles." Genesis continued. "It's pretty late, so I'll end the session here, but think about it. Come back if you need to." — Chapter Two, Session One, These Creatures I’ve Seen

Well, that wasn’t a bit more, that was a lot more. But there are still some mysteries. Will you uncover them? Let’s find out.

anyways, lore time!

so, my kirby gijinka set thing is a multiversal AU where every single universe has a pink person (kirby verse has.. kirby, tinkle verse has popopo, steampunk verse has carvai and Clash has Pink Knight) as the true savior to all and stuff. kirby verse is a mixture of game n anime, meaning that rbay events happens first before kirbo dreamland and so on. while popopo verse is CLASSIC/pilot AU with bits of the novel and nana/thorn queen manga thrown in. in this verse, CROWNED dedede has a daughter and his right hand is a spikies wielder named thorn queen.. 80% of kirby's friends/enemies counterpart in popopo verse are just their beta designs or just.. designs I don't think they would fit in kirby verse (like DXs)

Popopo Triple deluxe story is dedede tour basically, except the whole kidnapping thing still happenes, not to him but, to his daughter. he and popopo team up to climb up all the way to the kingdom of floralia and just like in the game, Crowned DeDeDe throws hand with DX, she goes peter death pose, he gets sucked into the mirror world, DX rises again and popopo fights her in the background..

If Elfilis and Elfilin has voice actors voicing them, who would it be and why according to your headcanon?

Oh what a great question!! Thanks for asking!

I go back and forth on my personal head canons... Ask me this again in six months and I may have a different answer! :P But I think right now, for the versions of these characters in the Roleswap AU, I imagine them both voiced by Cristina Vee! She has an amazing range!

I'd imagine Elfilis to sound like Bennett from Genshin Impact- But Elfilis would probably talk slightly slower than Bennett. He'd enunciate his words with the airy and bouncy diction of the Lab Discovera tour narration- but especially like the second half of the tour where the narrator voice sounds more intentional and serious.

We'll go into more detail on this later in the comic, but before meeting our protagonists, Elfilis didn't really experience having a conversation before, they only observed from afar and mimicked what they remembered. This observing from afar is also why he could understand Popstar's language. He'd been hanging around Waddle Dee Town and with enough listening and watching, began understanding it over time.

And who knows? This is just a theory but maybe a fun one to think about- Perhaps the evolution of the Forgotten Language into Popstar's language could be compared to the evolution of Latin into the Romance languages! (Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Catalan) Maybe that's what could've helped Elfilis pick up the new language a little faster...

ANYWAY so when Dedede asked Elfilis to speak in his own voice instead of mimicking theirs, they quoted lines from the lab tour. They don't remember the entire speech- only fragments of phrases are in their memory. But for some reason, it's one of the earliest memories they have. At that moment, he picked his own natural speaking voice by referencing the only other voice they could recall that didn't already belong to someone else....

As for Elfilin I think he'd sound like Tulin from Legend of Zelda! Mostly because his voice is pitched slightly higher. And Elfilin would talk a bit faster than Elfilis. I can't go into much more detail as to why, I'm afraid. Just have to wait and see! :'D

ABOUT: FECTO ELFILIS

A being of unknown origin, Fecto Elfilis was a star-travelling conqueror, using their dimensional warp ability to take it across planets and strike at the native populations. However, a mote of kindness still existed within Elfilis' soul, which kept its body and mind stable.

Eventually, Elfilis would stumble upon a planet with an advanced civilization. They attempted to invade this world as they had countless previous ones, but through unknown means (possibly with the help of the masters of a matter most dark), the people of this world were able to capture Elfilis and imprison them within the research facility Lab Discovera.

They branded Elfilis with the designation ID-F86 and experimented on them, coveting its spatial teleportation ability. They were able to steal its power, but Elfilis was split in twain. The mote of kindness within their soul became a brand-new being with no recollection of Elfilis' past. The scientists dubbed this being ID-F87, though he called himself Elfilin.

Meanwhile, Elfilis' body and mind deteriorated, taking on a disturbing, unstable form. To remedy this, the scientists imprisoned what was left of ID-F86 in a device called the Eternal Capsule which would keep its body stable. Elfilis, now reduced to Fecto Forgo, was restrained and turned into a tourist attraction, tormented daily by an insulting automated tour guide.

The people of this world eventually used their technology derived from Elfilis' abilities to abandon their homeworld to the beasts, leaving Fecto Forgo and Elfilin forgotten. Imprisoned within Lab Discovera, Fecto Forgo would begin to develop psychic abilities, using them to influence the minds if the beasts that had claimed the Forgotten Land for their own. Their king, Leon, would dedicate his resources to building a labour force to keep Lab Discovera up and running while they searched for Elfilin.

Fecto Forgo would eventually learn of the planet Popstar, a thriving world with a people ripe for exploitation. Fecto Forgo would use what was left of its Spatial Teleportation ability to kidnap countless Waddle Dees, alongside a tool it could control in King Dedede and three opponents in Kirby, Bandanna Waddle Dee, and Meta Knight.

Thus begins Kirby and the Forgotten Land, so far the only game to feature Elfilis.

Fecto Forgo's forces would eventually find Elfilis and kidnap several Waddle Dees. Kirby would oppose Fecto Forgo, but he could not stop Forgo's forces from capturing Elfilis. Kirby ventured into Lab Discovera, prompting the recording that had been seared into Forgo's mind over countless years.

Kirby would defeat Forgo's servant Leongar, forcing Forgo to assume direct control of the king of beasts, but Kirby proved too powerful. Filled with fury at its carefully laid plans being thwarted and Elfilis going to leave after having been closer to Forgo's reach than ever, it would declare through Leongar's body that it would wait and plan no longer. Instead, everything. Shall be. Consumed.

Forgo used their psychic powers to shatter the Eternal Capsule and then comsumed several beasts in order to chase Kirby and Elfilin. Kriby defeated Fecto Forgo, but Forgo was able to sneakily grab onto Elfilin and absorb him, allowing Elfilis to return to their true form. Kirby, Bandanna Waddle Dee, and Eflilis would battle atop a helipad on Lab Discovera's roof. Kirby would force Elfilin out of Elfilis' body.

Unable to accept the possibility of returning to being Fecto Forgo, Elfilis decides to bring Planet Popstar and the Forgotten Land crashing into one another, which wpuld destroy them all. Kirby, however would use a Semi-truck and the power Elfilin awakened from returning to Elfilis to destroy Elfilis' body, at which point Elfilin could close the rift.

Elfilis did not die, however, its soul-reduced once more to Fecto Forgo-instead used its unfettered psychic power to flee into a phantom copy of the Forgotten Land alongside Leon. It then broke up Leon's soul, knowing Kirby and Elfilin would try to reunite Leon's soul and save him, bringing Elfilin within Forgo's grasp once more and giving Forgo the chance to kill Kirby with more powerful henchman. Kirby obliged, and eventually brought the fragments of Leon's soul to a phantom copy of Lab Discovera, which echoed with a distorted version of the audio tour that Forgo was forced to endure while imprisoned.

Forgo would use Leon's body to try and kill Kirby again, but it proved unable to. Forgo would then exit Leon's body and attempt to kill Kirby itself, but it was stopped by Morpho Knight, who absorbed it.

Morpho Knight's actions would prove to be a blessing in disguise, as Kirby would destroy the lord of the underworld's body, and Forgo was able to use the power it absorbed to become Elfilis once more. Elfilis would retreat into a new extradimensional space, at which point Kirby and Elfilin would follow suit.

Elfilis, now a Species Born of Chaos, would try to use their enhanced powers to kill Kirby once more, but the pink demon instead managed to separate Elfilis' soul from its body. Losing its mind, Elfilis would use the slimy remains of its body as weapons, now focused solely on killing Kirby. Kirby would, of course, come out on top, freeing the souls trapped within Elfilis'. What remained of Elfilis was then absorbed by Elfilin, causing them to become whole once more.

The technology that was derived from Elfilis' Spatial Warp Ability was likely the basis for the Lor Starcutter, Galactic Nova, and Star Dream. It may also be connected to the Doomers and the Master Crown as the Grand Doomer is able to manipulate the extradimensional space created by the Lor Starcutter's mast in the same way that Elfilis can open up rifts, and the Master Crown can also upen up spatial rifts. This could indicate that Elfilis was once a wielder of the Master Crown, or that they were spawned from Void Termina.

So, is Elfilis more deserving of the title of Dark Matter Swag Champion than their opponent, Dark Matter Swordsman?

So after Niechel singing New world and the recorded message during the Lab Discovera tour, do you think it's possible that there will be more voice acting in future games. Maybe not too much but it would be cool from time to time. Maybe even add a few lore-filled secret recordings.

I definitely think it's possible! Some of the talk during the 30th Music Fest was leaning in the direction of no voice acted "lines" for Kirby going forward - that is, Kirby noises like "Haiiii" are fine, but Kirby's not going to give a speech. (Their reasoning, if I recall, was basically that everyone across the planet should be equally able to understand Kirby. Actually, same goes for Dedede, who also talks in grunts. I think Meta Knight has only "spoken" in Smash Bros, so same for him too?) And I think that's liable to stay as a rule for a long time.

But voices elsewhere? I can see it! What would be interesting is if they start being used specifically as a signature of human/ancient culture! If that becomes the case, like your lore-filled secret recordings idea, any trace of "speaking" becomes a marker for "Ancientness," which would be a great little easter egg!
