Matsumoto and The Mail
AKA Ultimately meaningless and incredible specific Bleach Headcanons
I am feeling 🙃🙃🙃 entirely overwhelmed (and also initially spelled "I" as "ai" so THAT’S WHERE WE ARE, LOL), so I’m going to take a moment and Bleach LARP my way into Zen and the Art of Not Murder, re: a minor but recurring annoyance in my present pile of RL fuckery. That is, I’m going to give it to Matsumoto, because I love Matsumoto and I am so much more likely to tolerate this behavior if it also makes me think about Matsumoto.
Let’s talk about Matsumoto’s approach to *mail.*
Matsumoto tends to send a bunch of letters all at once. Sometimes the letters are split up by topic, but sometimes the letters are really just a single thought filtered through a series of half-completed messages. It is not unusual to have seven or eight different letters from Matsumoto that the recipient then needs to collage back together.
To add to the mayhem, Matsumoto’s replies/follow-ups are generally not sent in the same thread/stream that began that conversation. If she sends a letter "attn: Shuuhei re: SC newsletter article" there’s a good chance it will not, in fact, have anything to do with the SC newsletter article. That’s under completely different header, and this is something else.
While Matsumoto makes use of denreishinki messaging, regular mail letters, and hell butterfly communiques, what kind of information, about what, is split across all of these different forms by some internal, incomprehensible logic of her own devising.
Matsumoto almost never replies to anyone else’s messages for her, and doesn’t seem to read them, either.
Matsumoto also constantly tells other people that she and they need to "work together" to "improve communication."
It's important to work with Matsumoto face-to-face as much as possible, because it's the only way to remember that you like her as a person a lot more than as a document. (Possibly why Hitsugaya and Matsumoto have agreed to work so closely with one another. Like, literally physically closely. Hitsugaya wants *zero* mail from Matsumoto.)
