the morning air is definitely not good for the lungs. in a busy city, long gone were the fresh and cool winds of the province. instead, fog and vehicle smoke fill the atmosphere, smothering people on their way to work.
what a dull world to live in, nagi thinks. making his way towards the elevator after mindlessly showing his identification card to the probably half asleep desk attendant and high-fiving the friendly janitor who never fails to greet him every morning.
ding! as the doors slid open, nagi could feel himself melting to the ground. it’s 7:54 am, office hours start at seven. he’s late but so what? it’s not like his boss cares enough for attendance. because of this, he gets an extra 10 minutes to sleep in. so why? why is the elevator so full of people that he has to squish his 190 cm build who’s carrying a briefcase? sighing dejectedly, nagi thinks he should’ve just taken the stairs.
it was silent. other than the constant whirs of the elevator going up, no one dares speak a word. it makes nagi cringe, to be honest. he feels like he’s in a room with a bunch of npc’s just trying to do their role. as soon as the lift stops at the thirteenth floor, nagi is pushed left and right as his fellow employees rush to their desks.
nagi walks over to his desk sluggishly. each step just adds to his growing boredom. the office is still the same as ever. the coffee that toppled over yesterday is still left unclean and the corner plant who has seen better days.
dragging his feet to his assigned cubicle, nagi sat down with a huff. looking around, he notices mr. takahashi, his senior who has worked here for more than ten years, standing in front of the water dispenser just staring into space. yep. this will be a long seven hours.
throughout the day, nagi felt nothing but exhaustion and endless boredom. his boss was nowhere to be found, as usual. he went to three different printers in the office and not a single one of them worked. he couldn't even concentrate on the report he was working on because the beeping from his co-worker's game almost made him pull out his own console and neglect his duty. during lunch, two people whose names nagi didn't even care to know about kept snickering while looking back at him eating his melon bread. how bothersome, indeed.
as soon as the clock strikes four, nagi wasted no time in tidying up his things. rushing towards the exit, nagi even ditches the elevator and ran down the stairs instead, he high fived the janitor for the second time of the day.
while on the bus, nagi decided to play games to pass time. taking in his homescreen wallpaper. a picture of you two at a park, his arms around you from behind, his cheek squished against your own. you beaming at the camera and him having the most miniscule smile ever known to man.
two years ago, you got an offer to study abroad in an exchange student program. at first, you refused, not wanting to leave nagi behind and came along were the doubts if you're even gonna survive in a foreign place all on your own. but nagi talked to you about it and urged you to just go, he'll be fine. he was not fine. during the first week, nagi couldn't sleep. he felt homesick in his own home. at some point, he's even thankful his job is everyday and keeps him away from home, nagi can't believe he ever thought that.
and now, nagi's on his way to the airport. to pick you up. because finally, after two whole long torturous years, you're coming home. to him.
nagi waits at the doors, anxiously tapping his feet. looking ahead, his eyes met yours and all of a sudden, the world doesn't seem so dull anymore. he watches as you run towards him, dropping your baggage at your wake and throwing yourself at him. arms around his neck and legs around his waist, nagi holds you tightly as if he's afraid to let you go again. he pulls your face back, his palm feels warm on your cheek.
"hi, sei. did you miss me?" you whispered, oh so delicately. nagi didn't utter anything back, only staring at you. eyes wandering around your features, rememorizing the face he's only been seeing inside a tiny box for the last two years. nagi leans in slowly, taking your lips in his. he kisses you with longing and fervor.
"missed you. i missed you so much." you heard him mumble into the kiss. pulling back only to hide his face in your neck, nipping at the skin before putting you down.
"let's go home?" you ask him, hands cupping his face. he nods.
home. nagi thinks it's a nice word when you say it.

You take Stardew Valley requests now?!
Also—you do Morris too?
Hmm. Without immediately getting on the hate train, could I please request a Farmer!Reader getting sick of Morris pestering them to buy a Joja membership? Their reaction to this is to issue the store manager a challenge—since they doubt he’s actually done anything usual for the “company”. Reader worked at Jojacorp previously, they know how cushy manager jobs are. Farmer!Reader states they buy a membership if and only if Morris tries to get through one of their typical work schedules for a day.
Really. Other stores have to be scouted, land cleared, and then built. So it shouldn’t be too far fetched for him to have some experience on the physical of working for the company, right?
Or something like that.
Ohhh I like this one 👀
A little love for Morris for ya'll
.....
"Hello. How are you?"
"Good, thanks. And you?"
"I'm good. Did you find everything okay?"
"Yep. The other place was closed and I needed these seeds for my greenhouse before the season's up-"
"You know you could get them for far cheaper and more by purchasing our Joja membership! It's never too late~"
'Why did I say anything...' Already annoyed, you looked over your shoulder to see Morris, the JojaMart manager, standing at the customer service booth. He had a far-too-cheery smiling spreading from ear to ear, making him look more unnerving than friendly.
After seeing that stunt he pulled at Pierre's yesterday, you knew he wasn't ashamed about boasting his business and trying to push you over to his side.
You rolled your eyes and looked back at the redheaded cashier, handing her the gold and putting the seed packets in your backpack. Now you could say with confidence that you've gotten everything you needed to finish some bundles for the community center.
Wishing her a goodnight, you began heading towards the door--only to see Morris now standing there, once again insisting you buy a membership.
Apparently, ignoring him wasn't the solution this time.
"I mean no disrespect, sir..but the answer's no. I moved here to escape Joja, not get dragged back into it."
"Ah but everything leads back to Joja eventually, dear farmer." He chuckled. "You'll come around, I'm sure. Now you have a goodnight."
"You, too." Grumbling, you practically shoved past him and stormed back home, hopping into the nearest minecart as your shortcut.
Fortunately you had some time to plant the seeds in the greenhouse, knowing your sprinklers will take good care of them from here on out. And then you headed straight to bed, your pet curled up beside you as you dozed off.
........
It was a little past 6AM..and you were already done with today.
You were just 101% done.
That was all because of Morris.
Only now you realized how stubborn that corporate suck-up was...as in the mail he left you an envelope containing Joja coupons and a letter, once again pleading his case.
First he barges into another man's small business and presents a big sale to drive customers away...and now he's trying to bribe you with coupons, knowing damn well how rich your farm is becoming. He was just after your money and nothing more.
You were very close to chucking the letter into the furnace.
Then something dawned upon you..
He's always insisting that his store's products would make your farm work "easier", but what did he really know about the work you do? All that hard labor and hours toiling in the sun to get your grandpa's farm in better shape than it ever was?
You were no stranger to the cushy jobs your managers at Joja Corp had. They only had to do taxes, nag about meeting quota, and barely lifted a finger, lounging in a luxury office while you were cramped in a cubicle, mindlessly typing away on some old computer.
That was the only life Morris probably ever knew.
He didn't pour any blood, sweat, or tears into constructing JojaMart...or did he?
Then again, he liked to tout about building it all "from the ground up", and you wondered if he meant that literally.
That gave you an idea.
You were planning a trip to Skull Caverns today, but now you had something different in mind. Those serpents, mummies, and prismatic shards could wait.
So after checking everything on your farm, you headed to JojaMart right away. Not to buy goods this time, but to talk to Morris about your proposition.
The villagers in town were wondering why you were smiling, yet otherwise said good morning and continued about their day.
.............
As Morris was approaching the store, he was surprised to see you standing in front of the entrance. "Why hello, farmer." He chuckled, twirling the keys around his finger. "I see you've changed your mind? You must really want that membership-"
"Yeah, about that.." You huffed, backpack slung over your shoulder. "I wanna make a deal with you."
"..really, now? I thought you weren't into "business"." He pouted, but after seeing your stare, he sighed. "Fine. Out with it. I do have to open the store in five minutes."
"It'll only take one minute. I'll get the membership-"
His grin returned.
"--if, and only if, you come to my farm for a day and try to get through one of my work schedules."
Immediately it faltered as he gawked loudly, looking as though you tried to gift him trash. His glasses became askew as he physically recoiled, but he tried fixing them, sputtering out nonsense.
You titled your head, smirking. "What's wrong?"
"I--erm..i-is that all?" He managed to compose himself, trying to stay professional. "I mean..it's....how hard could it possibly be? That's why I was stunned. Because it seems..too simple."
"....I thought you were gonna say no-"
"No? Hah! I could never pass up a challenge, dear farmer. If that's all it takes to get you into our membership club and out of Pierre's rundown shack of a store..then why not?"
"Oh good. It shouldn't be that hard for someone like you who built this store "from the ground up"." You reminded him, noticing the subtle change in his expression. He was still smiling, yet he looked nervous. "You must be familiar with toiling for hours in the sun, scouting, clearing land of trees and boulders to make way for the foundation...."
As you went on and on, Morris kept nodding his head. But in the back of his mind, he was panicking.
He never got a spec of dirt on any clothes he wore, nor did he partake in any hard labor, having left that to his construction crew. He only ever managed the finances of the store--none of the physical aspects of running one.
That being said...he couldn't just let go of the 0.1% chance that you'll give into a membership. Not when you're coming to him at this hour with such a deal.
Whatever will give him an edge over Pierre, he'll take it.
"...oh, and there's one tiny string attached."
"Of course.." He chuffed, fixing his bowtie. "What is it?"
"You and your workers aren't allowed to touch the Community Center even if I buy that membership."
Once more, he gawked. "Huh?! But..but...with that extra 5,000 gold, we'll have more than enough to fund-!"
Your stare silenced him, and as frustrated as he was....he finally relented. "Fine. Fine. I'll call someone else to run customer service in my steed. As long as you hold up your end of the bargain."
"Don't worry. I won't leave you high and dry." You smiled, patting his shoulder and ignoring the way he cringed and hastily brushed the dirt off his suit when you moved away. "Come by my farm after work and I'll give you the rundown. Tomorrow morning you start."
"Will do. But until then...care to come in and shop?" He chuckled, unlocking the door.
Yet when he turned back around, you were already gone, and his shoulders sagged with defeat.
'That farmer is a strange one, but I'll get them that membership yet.'
....
"--and finally, between 11PM and 2AM, check the slime hutch and makes sure the troughs are full of water and sell off any petrified slime they may produce."
"..sounds disgusting."
"You want me to buy that membership or not, Morris?" Glaring at the Joja manager, you saw the way he flinched and looked at you with panic. "Because I can just-"
"No, no! It's fine..I agree with all of these..terms and conditions." He looked over the book of instructions you lent him, containing a log of one of your daily work schedules.
By the time you finished writing down the tasks, he arrived on your farm in the late evening in a pair of jeans and a white shirt (with the Joja logo, of course). So at least you knew he was taking this seriously.
Although you're sure he's only trying to convince you that he can do this, and you had some doubts. Even Sam and Shane were taking bets after learning where their manager was gonna be tomorrow, with Sam thinking he'll lose it at the slimes, and Shane betting he won't last an hour on your farm.
Time will tell if either of them win.
"Good, and there's just one more thing....don't mind the Cursed Mannequin."
He did a double take. "I'm sorry, the what now?"
"Oh nothing. I just have a perfectly normal mannequin in the house." You smirked. "Just don't touch it or look at it for too long. Anyways, I got an extra bed set up for you. Don't come looking for me in the morning because I'll be camping out at Calico Desert all day."
Digging a desert warp totem out of your bag, you looked at Morris one more time. "I got a few hours to set up camp, then I'll be down in the skull caverns."
"It's reassuring to know that's not part of this work schedule.." He muttered. "How much did you pay for the-?"
"I made it myself. Get yourself acquainted with the area and rest up. Tomorrow your challenge starts."
His eyebrows furrowed a little, as he wasn't a fan of you bossing him around like this. But then again this was your "business", technically, and he was only playing the role of employee for a day...
He only had to get through one day, and then you'll have no choice but to agree and get the Joja membership!
"Wait, but what if-?"
"You'll be fine, Morris. Try not to burn my farm down." With a wink, you activated the totem and disappeared in a bright flash of light, which made him quickly shield his eyes, wincing.
Suddenly he was all alone in the cabin, and his gaze eventually wandered to the single mannequin positioned by your wardrobe. It was wearing one of your festival outfits...
And, for a split second, Morris swore it was blinking at him.
But he just shook it off as his imagination, deciding to go outside and check over everything like you told him to.
'Okay, maybe this won't be so bad after all...I can do this. For Joja.'
.........
"Thanks, Pam!"
"Oh anytime, hun." The blonde driver chuckled as you were let off at the bus stop in Pelican Town, happy to be back after a long day at the Skull Caverns.
Least to say, it was a super lucky day for you...aside from the occasional swarm of serpents that had you running, ducking, and swinging your weapon like crazy. But you didn't pass out this time, thank Yoba.
You got a few things to donate to the museum, geodes to crack open, and gifts to give to your friends, but the most important thing right now was seeing how your farm was in Morris' hands.
Hopefully nothing burned down.
But part of you realized that if he was okay, that meant buying a Joja membership and having to succumb to the corporation you tried to get away from.
Oh well, you proposed that deal in the first place. It would be cruel not to uphold your end of it.
As you walked onto your farmland, you took a good look around, seeing that your crops were properly watered and the animals were out of the coop and barn, happily grazing in the fenced area. They seemed highly content.
'Well I'll be damned. He did it. I guess it wasn't so bad for him after all.'
Smiling, you headed inside the cabin to organize your backpack-
Only to find Morris passed out on the floor of your kitchen, his face sweaty and clothes covered in dirt and slime residue; not to mention several scratch marks on his skin, more notably his hands.
'Okay, maybe I spoke too soon.'
"Morris?" You got your watering can ready in case you had to wake him up-
Then he abruptly snapped his eyes open, sitting up with a gasp, scrambling to his feet the moment he saw you. He looked extremely strung out and..almost traumatized, even.
"Farmer, you...! Y-You...you didn't....!!"
"Hey, hey. Calm down, Morris." Setting the watering can on the table, you put your hands up. "You're okay. Everything looks good out there-"
"You didn't tell me you had beasts living on this farm! Oh god, I'm a mess. Don't look at me anymore!" With teary eyes, he rushed to the kitchen sink to wash his hands, nearly scrubbing them raw as he tried calming himself down. "Those Slimes were so vicious, they kept swarming me and one stole my glasses! A-And the animals...why didn't you say there were dinosaurs in the coop?!"
"I did put that down, but you must've thrown away the paper I gave you. I told you to look it over carefully."
"And I told you to get an Auto-Petter!" He huffed. "I would've offered it to you at a discount had I known you had so many animals! But noooo...you'd rather risk getting your fingers bitten off, I guess!"
"Oh come on. They're sweet little things who crave real human affection-"
"To you, who raised them, they might be!" Turning around, he could see your small smile, and he frowned in return. "You know what the worst part about all of this was?"
"I'm eager to know." You sat down at the table, your pet coming to sit beside you on the floor.
"...Pierre. He came by to sell you some ridiculous recipe, but instead saw me down on my knees, trying to tear some stupid fruit out of the ground! And he LAUGHED and called me your "new farmboy"!! You have any idea how humiliating that was?!!" His face was turning red.
"I can imagine...what was the recipe?"
"Wh..nevermind that! I represent all of Joja in this town, and if anyone finds out through my rival that I'm....!! I'm....!" As he looked at you and saw your expression, he felt defeated, his anger replaced with tiredness.
"...sorry. I told myself I wasn't going to lose my head." He rubbed his temples, groaning. "And here I am, doing just that. I..I don't know how you do it everyday, [y/n]. All of this work. I'm definitely not in the best shape for it."
"Believe me, I used to think the same thing." You chuckled, glad to see the haughty manager becoming so humble. "You remember our deal?"
Morris perked up. "Yes. You were..serious about that, correct?" His eyes narrowed. "Because if you made me go through all of this just to embarrass me-"
"Relax. You're gonna have a new member of your little club very soon." Sighing, you took out an envelope containing 5,000 gold that you've reserved for this. "Really didn't think you'd last long enough to win...but you did it."
He looked at you like a fish out of water, utterly speechless. But he quickly regained his composure and laughed, standing upright. "Hah! One score for me, none for Pierre! Shall we get you set up right away into our rewards program-?"
"Get cleaned up first, and then we'll talk about that."
"......fine, "boss"." His shoulders slumped as he pouted, heading back into the spare bedroom to wash up and put his black suit, slacks, and bowtie back on.
While waiting, you sighed and looked down at your pet. "That son of a bitch really did it, Miso."
"........"
"Yeah, I should've known better. But it was nice being the manager of him for once."

Chickie!! Those prompts are so cute omg 🥰 I’d love to see 70 & 80 for our darlings Harry and Jean, 72 & 75 for Olive & Dougie?
hi pookie!! thanks so much for your request, I loved writing these :')
from this prompt list (inbox is still open for more of these!)
under the cut to save space
70 & 80 - Jean and Croz
“you're so beautiful,” “how can you think I'm anything but hopelessly in love with you?”
Jean stifles a sob as she sits in the lavatory cubicle, head bent back so no tears fall down her rouged cheeks and ruin her expertly applied make up. It had taken so much time and effort, Val offering to stop by earlier than the babysitting duties intended. Mrs Crosby had protested, not wanting to trouble her.
“Jeez, let me give you a little pamper, Jean,” she had said, pulling out all her supplies. “Goodness knows you deserve it.” Jean had nodded, sitting opposite Valencia as she surveyed her skin tone. “Besides, how else am I to thank you for all those martinis? Best I’ve ever had.”
Jean Crosby takes another few minutes to calm down, the reminder of a few moments ago coming back to her. A woman across the restaurant had made doe eyes at her husband, and he had smiled back with no other intentions than to look friendly. Jean isn’t sure what triggered such anger over the exchange - she wasn’t a jealous person, not usually. But this anger burning inside her tells her otherwise, the fury bubbling up into her gut and making her nauseous, bile burning at her throat.
To say Jean Crosby was struggling with her image after having her son was an understatement. Before getting pregnant, Jean had enjoyed how she looked, admiring herself on occasion in the mirror and seeing nothing to sniff at. These days, it’s a challenge to even look at herself, her stomach now soft and still a little bloated, not quite being able to fit into the clothes she used to. Bing always reassured her that she was beautiful, how pretty she was every single moment he could. But it seemed to be just words to her, not quite being able to believe he could love this version of her - this version that he had come home to after years at war, totally different to the newlywed he’d left as he shipped out.
***
“All set?” Croz asks as he sees her approach their table. He pulls her wrap from the back of her chair and puts it around her shoulders, planting a soft kiss on her cheek. He breathes her in as she can’t help but smile at him, the anger instantly melting away.
“Goodness me, Mrs Crosby,” he begins, wrapping his arm around her waist as they vacate the building. “You smell lovely.”
Once home, they’re greeted happily by Val who is sitting at the dining table, giving her nails a refresh. “He was no trouble, Jean,” she says, gathering her things. “Out like a light right at eight. What a doll he is.” “Thank you, Val,” Harry says, helping her with her jacket. “Sure you don’t need a ride home?” “Oh, no,” she replies, shaking her head. “Ev should be here in…” her voice drifts off as they hear the squeak of brakes outside. “Well, right now, I guess. Bye, Crosbys!”
At her exit, Bing can barely wait for the door to close before he’s clinging to his wife and nuzzling into her neck. She doesn’t respond like she usually does, Harry pulling back and looking at her in confusion.
“Darling, what is it?” he asks, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She looks up at him, eyes all glassy. “My little wife, don’t cry.” His voice is soft and soothing, his hand stroking her face as his big brown cow eyes widen in concern. “Did I do something to upset you?” “No,” she chokes out. “Yes. Maybe?” “A straight answer would be nice, my love. I need to know.” “Saw you making eyes at that lady at dinner. She was so beautiful and I’m–” “Hey,” he protests, holding her close. “I felt her looking at me and I just smiled back to be friendly. I wasn’t looking at anyone else but you, Jean.”
“I know, and I feel so silly, but it’s–it’s since having the baby I just feel so…” “So…” “Different. So unlike myself. I’m not the same girl you left, Harry. I’m not the young, peppy newlywed that fit into pretty dresses anymore. You came back to someone with a totally different body after I’d given birth to our baby. I just don’t know if you like this version of me because I’m not sure if I do.” “Honey,” he soothes, grasping her by the shoulders. “You’re so beautiful. You’re my wife, Mrs Crosby. How lucky am I that you stuck by me through all those years of being apart, all the stupid mistakes I made? I love the version of you I had to leave behind and I love this version that I’ve come home to. Because with you, I am home. You are my home.”
She sniffs, snuggling into him as he leans his head on hers. “I’m sorry. I just don’t know if you feel the same way you did all those years ago.” “My darling wife, how can you think I'm anything but hopelessly in love with you?”
“Things are different now. We have a son, there’s a little less freedom,” she huffs, following it with an eyeroll. “It doesn’t change how I feel about you. If anything, it makes me love you all the more. You are always the most beautiful woman in the room to me.” “Thank you, darling,” she sniffs, kissing him. She listens intently for any baby cries, but none come. “Shall we go upstairs for a cuddle before baby boy wakes for his feed?” “You read my mind, my little wife.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
72 & 75 - Olive and Dougie
“I will knock you on your ass if you even think about it,” “I'm going for a swim, do you wanna join me?”
“Ugh.”
Olive twists and turns, this way and that, scrutinizing her reflection a little too harshly. She skulks back into the closet to change again, fishing through dresses and undergarments to find a one piece swimsuit that piques her interest. “Final try,” she sighs, totally spent and exasperated before she's even left the hotel room to join her friends for the last day of their vacation together.
She knew they wouldn’t care how she looked - in fact, she knew they'd go as far as to whoop and cheer the second they saw her. Jean Crosby had once said that Olive could wear a flour sack and be able to pull it off. The memory of that statement sticks in Olive’s mind as she pulls on the swimsuit, it clinging to her in  all the wrong places.
“Oh, for goodness sake,” she whispers to herself, knowing that she's out of choices. “Hey, James!” she calls into the bathroom, her husband brushing his teeth. “Go on without me, I'm not ready yet.”
“Oh? Okay.”
He emerges to find Olive sat on the bed and back in her pajamas, shuffling to find where she left off in her novel.
“I'm going for a swim if you wanna join me?”
“No thanks,” Olive says pointedly.
“So when you said you're not ready, did you even get as far as standing, or…?”
“Yes, actually,” she replies stiffly, not looking up from the book. “I tried on all five swimsuits and it was hard to look at. So, you go ahead.”
“How long will you be?”
She raises an eyebrow at his question, embarrassment washing over her. “I may have to give our final day a miss.”
“I will knock you on your ass if you even think about it,” he replies, a sterner tone leaving him than they are both used to. “Try on the blue one.”
“No,” she says, brow furrowing to keep the emotion at bay.
“Honey, you're probably just a little bloated from all the good food we've been eating this week. Plus, all the cocktails and the desserts–”
“You've made your point, James,” she sighs, retreating back to the closet and picking the blue two-piece her husband seemed to have his heart set on. She moodily puts it on before slamming back out of the door. “Happy?”
“My god,” he gasps, his eyes drinking in every little drop of her. “Blissfully.” He opens the door quickly, shouting towards the hubbub of their friends as they pile out of the door to the swimming pool.
“Hey, we're gonna be a minute. See you in a second.”
Olive looks at him in confusion as he closes the door. “But I'm ready?”
“I'm about to get you un-ready for just a little while.”

Thor is chosen once a century. Mjolnir comes in many forms, but each is a tool and each is tailored to its wielder’s job. Which explains why Derek, in accounting, found a new fancy pen at his desk one day.
(A response to a writing prompt)
No one knew how to approach Derek. He was just one of those people that existed in the background of an office, like an office plant or water cooler. No one disliked him or anything, they just didn’t know how to start a conversation with the man. They would approach his desk, only to find him buried in a spreadsheet or pile of documents, unresponsive to the world outside of his work. Some of his braver colleagues would try to start a conversation, only to find that task too taxing, giving up before he could even give them a mutter of acknowledgement.
Perhaps that’s why Mjolnir favored him? A man that dedicated deserved some assistance with his work, so he was granted the mighty pen of Mjolnir. A pen that glided along paper like skates on ice.
“Knocky, knock.” Lisa smiled, tapping the grey wall of his cubicle. Lisa had always tried to appear friendly when she greeted Derek, even bringing him a small chocolate bar as an offering for what she was about to ask him. “Hey, I know you’re super busy Derek, and I don’t mean to cause you anymore headaches, but I’m a little concerned about my latest pay slip.”
Derek paused his crime podcast, pulling his headphones out. Mjolnir was fantastic. With this new pen, his job felt like a day at the spa, able to multitask with maximum efficiency. Getting to enjoy all the tasks he never usually had time for. “Yes, Lisa? Did I make a mistake?” Derek knew it was impossible for him to make a mistake, especially with Mjolnir in his hands, yet he still said it in the hopes it would make him sound more down to earth and approachable.
“I believe so. Um, here. A chocolate?” she muttered, staring at the honeycomb bar in her hand, wearing a confused expression like she wasn’t sure why she had been holding it. Placing the chocolate on his desk, she expressed her concerns. “I know you always try to look out for us, but this pay slips all wrong. It says I’m earning an extra thirty grand this year.”
“That’s correct.” Derek stated, wondering if that was all she wanted to ask.
“Correct?” She stammered, trying to figure out how any of that could be correct. “Its an extra thirty grand. There’s no way I’m earning that. No one’s spoken to me about a pay rise. Was there an email I missed?”
“No email needed. The company said if I could save them five million dollars this year, they would let me increase the wages of our department. A few adjustments to our books and a clever switching of manufacturers for certain elements of our business, and I was about to save ten million dollars. Double their asking amount. Which means you should be entitled to another thirty grand on top of the current amount. Although I’ll need to discuss that with our boss.”
Lisa didn’t know what to say. She had gone to accounting expecting to have the extra money ripped away from her hands, instead she was told it would double soon. She stayed quiet before her eyes watered. “You don’t know how much this means to me.” She said, almost tackling Derek out of his office chair as she hugged him.
Derek didn’t know what to do when she squeezed him into her embrace, only softly patting her back in response. “Finally, I can take some time off. I won’t need to work those extra shifts. I can go watch my girls play soccer.”
“I’m glad.” Was all Derek said, giving a soft smile. “Would you like some chocolate?” While it felt rude to offer her gift back, Derek thought she needed it more. Lisa nodded, clutching the bee mascot on the wrapper, holding the chocolate to her chest.
“You care about us a lot, don’t you? Even though we don’t talk to you that much.” Lisa stared at her shoes, almost feeling like she didn’t deserve his kindness. While that thought circled her mind, Derek looked up at her, continuing to grin.
“Of course I care. Everyone here makes an effort to say hi to me. I understand I’m not the most approachable person, so I appreciate the thought. The gesture alone makes me happy.” Derek held a box of tissues up for Lisa, who quickly accepted two of them.
“I’m glad. I’m glad you see the effort.” She dabbed her eyes with the tissue, still lingering in the cubicle. “Why don’t you grab lunch with us all this Friday? We’ll pay.”
Derek looked at his phone screen, seeing that he still had twelve hours left on the Hunchridge ice killer episode of his favorite podcast. He had hoped to get through it by the end of his work week, but perhaps the ice killer could wait. “I’ll be there. Just send me the details.”
When Lisa left his cubicle, he got up, heading to get some tea. Rounding the corner of his cubicle, he spotted a line of his co-workers, each one holding their pay slips in the same confused manner in which Lisa had previously held hers. “Perhaps I should have put it in an email.” He sighed, inviting them into his cubicle.

Chapter 32: Ronny's Lunch
Candy’s day hadn’t started off the best, with her getting eaten and then hearing that Bianca’s date hadn’t gone as well as she hoped. Nonetheless, she was determined to stay positive and make the best of the rest of her day. Today was Friday, and she was looking forward to hopefully spending a romantic weekend with Martin, rather than hiding in the office closet with the spiders. Little did she know that her day was only going to get worse, much worse.
It wasn’t quite time for lunch, but Candy was already becoming weary and hungry after her long week. A Giant’s shadow fell across her desk and she turned around, expecting to see Martin. Instead, to her horror, she found herself looking up at Ronny. He gazed down at her contemptuously with his cold, dark eyes narrowed to slits, a smug, hateful grin plastered on his face.
“Candy! How have you been?” he sneered, dripping with sarcasm and disdain. “Gosh, I hardly see you! It’s like you’ve been avoiding me or something!” He leaned over her, planting his hands on the desk. Candy gulped and stepped back, tripping over her keyboard and falling on her rear. She was paralyzed with fear.
Ronny lowered his colossal face down closer and leered at her, showing off his blocky white teeth. “You’re always eating lunch with that loser Martin, aren’t you? Why don’t you spend lunch with me today, instead? We have so much catching up to do!” Before Candy could protest, Ronny snagged her in his hand with lightning speed and lifted her up inches from his face. Candy cried out in terror but the Giant stuck his fingertip over her mouth to mute her.
“None of that screaming, now,” he warned in a low growl. “Or else.” He ran his free hand over his jet-black, slicked-back hair and prowled over to his own desk. He flopped down in his chair and examined Candy in his hand. She whined with fright.
“Guess what I’ve got for lunch,” Ronny drawled. He forced Candy’s head to the side with his finger, so she was looking down at his desk. “Spaghetti and meatballs. Yummy!” Indeed, he had a plastic container with spaghetti in it, as advertised. Candy squirmed against his fingers, but she couldn’t fight him with her wimpy strength.
Ronny continued to mock her, feigning friendliness. “Oh, what’s that, Candy? You didn’t bring a lunch today? You poor, pathetic little pipsqueak! Don’t you worry your dumb little head, you can have some of mine!” With that statement, he shoved Candy into his spaghetti, smearing the red sauce all over her. He grabbed his fork and piled noodles on top of her, wrapping her up in the long strands so she couldn’t get away. Candy struggled, but the noodles were tangled all over her and too heavy to move all at once.
“No, Ronny, please! Don’t eat me!” Candy pleaded. Her terrifying memory of being swallowed just that morning was still fresh in her mind. However, Martin was kind and sensible enough to free her from his stomach; she doubted Ronny would do the same. Ronny just laughed and stirred the noodles around, poking Candy with his fork and making her shriek. He slopped a big mess of noodles on his fork and shoveled them into his mouth, gulping them down greedily. Candy got one of her arms free, but Ronny forced it back down with his fork. One of the edges nicked her arm and drew blood.
Ronny ignored her pain and scooped her up with the eating utensil, completely wrapped in spaghetti. Candy felt a surge of hope when she saw Martin approaching from down the hall to meet her for lunch, but before she could alert him to her presence Ronny opened his huge mouth and stuffed her inside. Her screams were muffled as he maneuvered her into his cheek. He sucked on her as he watched Martin, oblivious, walk over to her cubicle. He appeared surprised to find it deserted, then puzzled, then concerned. He searched around for her, scratching his head, becoming more worried by the second. After wracking his brains to discern where she might be, Martin left to see if Bianca happened to know where Candy disappeared to.
Ronny sniggered to himself and toyed with Candy on his tongue, relishing her feeble squirms. He separated her from the noodles, chewed them up, and ate them, keeping Candy in his mouth the whole time. He shoved into his maw another forkful of noodles and chomped them up, tossing Candy about with his jaws. He swallowed the masticated noodles and jumbled her around on his tongue, rubbing her along the inner edge of his teeth and along the roof of his mouth. He wanted to torment her more before actually eating her, so he spat her back out into his container of noodles and buried her in them again so she couldn’t run away. Every time she tried to make noise, he would throw more spaghetti on top of her or drown her in tomato sauce.
After ingesting about half his meal, Ronny got the spark of a terrible, sadistic idea. “Hmmm… it’s taking me too long to eat this spaghetti,” he remarked, glaring down at Candy. “It’s getting cold. Maybe I should heat it up in the microwave!” Candy went dreadfully pale and opened her mouth in a futile attempt to call for help. Ronny picked her up and stuffed her headfirst inside a big meatball, so only her feet were sticking out. Laughing to himself, he picked up his lunch and carried it to the break room. He kept a wary eye out for Martin so the other Giant wouldn’t interfere.
He sauntered over to the microwave and started pressing buttons. “Let’s see, about two minutes should do the trick. We’ll get you nice and hot. Nobody likes cold spaghetti.” As he spoke, he leaned close to the meatball so that Candy could hear his voice.
“Ronny, have you lost your marbles? Why are you talking to your food?” a baffled voice questioned him. Ronny turned around to behold a fat, bearded Giant—the very same one that was involved with the vending machine incident. Ronny glared at him.
“None of your business, lard-ass! Piss off!” he scoffed with venom. The Giant shrugged and waddled away with a shake of his head. As he was leaving the break room, he happened to run into a panicking Martin.
“Carl! Have you seen Candy anywhere? That tiny human that works with us?” Martin asked with urgency. “Something fishy is going on. She’s missing.”
“Sorry, no,” the other Giant replied. “The only weird thing I’ve seen is Ronny talking to his lunch over there. He’s always been unhinged, but now he’s really losing it.” He pointed over to Ronny, who was putting his food in the microwave with an unnatural, bloodthirsty grin. Martin processed these suspicious observations instantly and rushed over to Ronny. He slapped his hand on the despicable man’s shoulder and spun him around to face him.
He skipped any preamble. “Where’s Candy?” Martin interrogated.
Ronny’s eyes narrowed. “Beats me. What do you care?” Martin glared at him and he glared back, unflinching. Martin glanced over at the microwave. His instincts were screaming at him that Ronny was culpable somehow. He opened the microwave and pulled out the food to examine it. At first, he didn’t see or hear anything amiss, and he almost believed he was mistaken. Just as he was about to turn away, he witnessed one of the meatballs shift of its own accord. Upon closer inspection, he saw a miniscule pair of feet sticking out, wriggling desperately.
“Candy!” he exclaimed with shock. He refrained from dragging her out by the feet, lest he accidentally crush them between his fingers, and instead carefully pulled apart the meatball to reveal the disheveled, frantic woman, covered in sauce and saliva.
“Martin!” she gasped. Tears flowed down her face and she was trembling uncontrollably. Martin clutched her to his chest protectively, not caring about the filth on her body staining his shirt and tie. He realized, with abject horror, that Ronny had been seconds away from brutally murdering her. If he had been only a minute later in rescuing her, Ronny would have cooked her alive in the microwave, and then he probably would have eaten her to dispose of the evidence. Martin was revolted and sickened by the thought.
A molten rage rose inside him, threatening to erupt like a volcano. He wanted to slaughter Ronny with his bare hands, but Candy was his priority. She was in his hand right now, and he couldn’t risk hurting her. Regardless, he needed Ronny to back off. The Giant hadn’t heeded his warning to leave Candy alone. Martin didn’t bother to use words on Ronny. Only his fists would teach him a lesson. He cranked his beefy arm back and slugged Ronny square in the face, hard. Ronny crumbled to the floor, stunned. Martin kicked him hard in the ribs, then again in the groin, and stormed off. He left Ronny curled up, face smothered in blood, and groaning in agony.
Martin took Candy to the sink in the bathroom and washed her off, for the second time that day. He felt sick, thinking about all the abuse she had to suffer through. He held her to his chest and petted her with his fingers while she shook and cried, until she eventually quieted to sniffles.
“T-thank you, Martin,” Candy quavered. “I don’t know… what I’d do without you…”
“I’m here for you, Candy,” Martin reassured her gently. “I’ll always be here for you.” He held her for a while longer, until she was calmer. As he exited the bathroom and made his way across the office, he found Mr. Hardon waiting for him by his desk, arms crossed.
“Nice of you to finally show up, Martin,” he remarked sourly. “Come with me to my office.” Candy went rigid at the sound of the boss's voice. Martin gave her a gentle squeeze to reassure her, pressing her snugly to his body, and followed Mr. Hardon. Upon entering the office, he stiffened when he saw Ronny slumped in a chair, glowering at him. One of his eyes was swollen, bloodshot, and livid. His nose was bandaged up and bloody. His suit was messed up and dirty. Martin glared back at him. Mr. Hardon sat down at his desk and gestured for Martin to take a seat as well. Martin reluctantly settled down into a chair, shielding Candy with his hand so she wouldn’t have to face Ronny.
Mr. Hardon clasped his hands on top of his desk. “Now, Martin-” He stopped. “What’s in your hand there?”
Martin hesitated before spreading his fingers to reveal the tiny human he was holding. Ronny bared his teeth at her and Candy flinched. Mr. Hardon stared at Martin with an inscrutable expression and shook his head. He couldn’t help but feel that familiar but unwelcome stab of possessiveness that had become all too common regarding Candy. He didn’t like seeing her cozying up to Martin. He wanted her to belong to him instead, him alone. He repressed the emotion for the time being. “Ronny here claims that you came into the break room and beat him up for no reason. I want to hear your side of events.”
Martin balked. “No reason?! NO REASON?!” he bellowed with indignation. “What a load of baloney! He was going to kill Candy! He had her stuffed into a meatball and was going to microwave her!” He was fuming, but he contained himself when Candy cringed at the volume of his voice.
“That’s a lie!” Ronny caterwauled. Martin bristled, chomping at the bit for another brawl.
“Stuffed… in a meatball?” Mr. Hardon repeated. He pictured how silly Candy must’ve looked and guffawed heartily. Martin stared at him with exasperation. The boss was just as heartless as Ronny. He would get little help from him. Ronny smirked.
“Now, Ronny, as creative and fun as it may have been to tease Candy, I can’t have you killing and eating her, okay?” Mr. Hardon scolded, still chuckling. We need her alive to do her job, naturally.”
“Of course, sir. I was just playing around. I wasn’t actually going to microwave her,” Ronny lied with an unctuous smile. “Martin is just being overdramatic. He’s too stupid to take a joke.”
Martin looked like he was about ready to explode at this comment, so Mr. Hardon hastily intervened. “Whatever your intentions, Ronny, that wasn’t appropriate. Don’t do it again. And stay away from Candy.”
“Sure thing, boss,” Ronny agreed, rolling his eyes dismissively.
“Martin, you can’t be beating people up at the office, regardless of the reason. Don’t do it again. I’m assigning you both an hour of mandatory overtime today. Now get out of my sight.”
Martin grumbled under his breath but begrudgingly agreed. He was agitated at the thought of leaving Candy alone and vulnerable at her desk for the rest of the day. He hoped, at least with her right outside Mr. Hardon’s office, Ronny would leave her alone. He didn’t trust Mr. Hardon to do much better though. With a sigh, he set Candy down next to her keyboard. “I’ll check on you later, okay?” he assured her. Candy nodded with frightened eyes. Martin lingered for a moment, touching her face lovingly, before striding off.

What are the latest trends introduced by office room designers?
In today’s rapidly evolving workplace, office room designers are pushing the boundaries of creativity to create spaces that are not only functional but also inspiring and conducive to productivity. The modern office is no longer just a place to work; it’s an environment that reflects the company’s culture, values, and vision. Here are some of the latest trends introduced by office room designers that are transforming the way we work.
1. Biophilic Design
Biophilic design has become a staple in modern office interiors. Office room designers are increasingly incorporating natural elements such as plants, natural light, and water features into office spaces. The idea is to create a connection between the indoors and outdoors, promoting well-being and reducing stress. Studies have shown that biophilic design can enhance creativity and productivity, making it a favorite among forward-thinking office room designers.
2. Flexible Workspaces
The traditional office layout is evolving into more dynamic, flexible workspaces. Office room designers are moving away from rigid cubicles and opting for open spaces that can be easily reconfigured to suit different needs. Whether it’s for collaboration, focused work, or relaxation, flexible workspaces offer employees the freedom to choose how and where they work. This trend is especially popular in startups and tech companies where agility and innovation are key.
3. Sustainable Design
Sustainability is no longer an option; it’s a necessity. Office room designers are prioritizing eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems in their projects. From recycled furniture to energy-efficient lighting, sustainable design is not only good for the planet but also for the company’s image. Green certifications such as LEED are becoming more common, as businesses recognize the importance of reducing their carbon footprint.
4. Technology Integration
The integration of technology into office design is another trend that’s here to stay. Office room designers are incorporating smart technology to enhance the functionality and efficiency of office spaces. This includes everything from automated lighting and climate control systems to advanced audiovisual equipment for seamless communication. Technology integration is also helping to create hybrid work environments, where remote and in-office employees can collaborate effortlessly.
5. Wellness-Focused Design
Employee well-being is at the forefront of modern office design. Office room designers are creating spaces that promote physical and mental health. This includes ergonomic furniture, standing desks, quiet zones for relaxation, and even fitness areas. The focus on wellness is not just about comfort; it’s about fostering a healthy work environment that leads to increased productivity and job satisfaction.
6. Personalized Spaces
Personalization is becoming a key aspect of office design. Office room designers are creating spaces that reflect the unique culture and identity of each company. This could be through custom artwork, branded color schemes, or unique furniture designs. Personalized spaces not only make the office more aesthetically pleasing but also help to reinforce the company’s brand and values.
7. Collaborative Zones
Collaboration is at the heart of innovation, and office room designers are creating dedicated zones for teamwork. These collaborative zones are often equipped with comfortable seating, writable walls, and advanced technology to facilitate brainstorming and idea-sharing. The goal is to create an environment that encourages communication and collaboration, leading to greater creativity and problem-solving.
Conclusion
The latest trends introduced by office room designers are redefining the modern workplace. From biophilic design to technology integration, these trends are focused on creating spaces that are not only functional but also promote well-being, collaboration, and innovation. How do I create collaborative spaces within office cabin designs?
In today’s dynamic work environment, fostering collaboration is crucial for innovation and productivity. Creating effective collaborative spaces within office cabin designs can enhance teamwork, encourage idea-sharing, and boost overall employee engagement. Here’s how to design office cabins that support collaboration while maintaining functionality and comfort.
1. Design Open Layouts for Flexibility
Open layouts are fundamental to creating collaborative spaces within office cabin designs. By minimizing physical barriers such as walls and cubicles, you encourage spontaneous interactions and easier communication. Use modular furniture and movable partitions to allow for flexibility in the workspace. This approach enables teams to reconfigure the space as needed for different projects or group sizes, enhancing adaptability and collaboration.
2. Incorporate Dedicated Collaboration Zones
Integrate specific areas within office cabins that are dedicated to collaboration. These zones can include brainstorming rooms, meeting pods, or lounge areas designed for informal discussions. Equip these spaces with whiteboards, interactive screens, and comfortable seating to facilitate brainstorming and idea-sharing. Creating dedicated collaboration zones helps ensure that employees have access to environments conducive to teamwork and creative thinking.
3. Use Ergonomic and Flexible Furniture
Furniture plays a key role in collaborative office cabin designs. Choose ergonomic and flexible furniture that supports various work styles and encourages group interaction. Adjustable desks, modular seating, and movable tables allow employees to configure their workspaces for different needs, whether for individual tasks or group meetings. Comfortable and versatile furniture enhances both productivity and collaboration by accommodating different work preferences.
4. Implement Technology for Seamless Collaboration
Technology integration is essential for effective collaborative spaces within office cabin designs. Equip collaborative areas with state-of-the-art AV systems, including high-definition screens, video conferencing equipment, and wireless presentation tools. Interactive whiteboards and digital collaboration tools enable teams to share and develop ideas in real-time. Ensure that all technology is user-friendly and well-integrated to minimize disruptions and enhance teamwork.
5. Foster a Creative and Inspiring Environment
Create an inspiring and stimulating environment to boost creativity and collaboration. Use vibrant colors, unique decor, and artwork to make collaborative spaces engaging and visually appealing. Incorporate elements such as plants, natural light, and comfortable lounge furniture to create a welcoming atmosphere. An aesthetically pleasing environment can enhance mood and motivation, leading to more effective and enjoyable collaboration.
6. Provide Privacy Options
While open spaces are important for collaboration, privacy options are also crucial for focused work. Incorporate acoustic panels, soundproof partitions, or privacy booths within the office cabin design to offer employees quiet spaces when needed. Providing options for both collaborative and private work ensures that employees can switch between teamwork and focused tasks without distractions.
7. Facilitate Easy Movement and Access
Design collaborative spaces with ease of movement in mind. Ensure that furniture and layout allow for smooth traffic flow and easy access to various areas. Avoid clutter and obstacles that could hinder movement or create bottlenecks. A well-organized layout promotes efficient collaboration by allowing team members to move freely and access necessary resources without difficulty.
8. Encourage Informal Interactions
In addition to formal meeting areas, create spaces that encourage informal interactions and spontaneous discussions. Cafes, lounges, or casual seating areas within office cabins provide opportunities for employees to connect and collaborate outside of structured meetings. Informal interactions can lead to creative breakthroughs and strengthen team relationships.
9. Include Collaborative Tools and Resources
Equip collaborative spaces with tools and resources that support effective teamwork. Provide access to shared resources such as printers, whiteboards, and projectors in these areas. Ensure that collaborative tools are easily accessible and maintained to support smooth and productive collaboration.
10. Gather Feedback and Iterate
Finally, gather feedback from employees on the effectiveness of collaborative spaces and be open to making adjustments. Regularly assess how well the design supports teamwork and collaboration, and be willing to make changes based on user experiences. Iterative improvements based on feedback help ensure that the office cabin design continues to meet the evolving needs of the team.
In conclusion, creating collaborative spaces within office cabin designs involves a combination of open layouts, dedicated zones, ergonomic furniture, and advanced technology. By fostering a creative environment, providing privacy options, and encouraging informal interactions, you can design office cabins that enhance teamwork and innovation. Implement these strategies to create a workspace that supports effective collaboration and contributes to a more dynamic and productive work environment. Top Trending Office Space Amenities to Expect in 2024
Tumblr media
In 2024, the design and functionality of office spaces will evolve to meet the needs of a dynamic workforce. As companies attempt to attract top talent and maintain a productive work environment, many significant trends are influencing how office spaces are designed and used.
So, here are the top trendy office space features to look for in 2024:
Flexible Workspaces and Adaptive Layouts
Gone are the days of stiff cubicles and set desks. Modern offices prefer adaptable design that can be readily modified to accommodate various jobs and team sizes. This versatility enables businesses to construct collaboration areas, quiet zones, and meeting spaces as needed, resulting in a more dynamic and efficient work environment.
Hot Desking
Hot desks, where employees do not have designated desks, are becoming more popular. This method not only maximizes space consumption, but it also encourages employees to engage with one another and fosters a culture of cooperation and invention.
Sustainable & Green Design
Eco-friendly materials.
Sustainability will be a key focus in 2024, with workplace spaces including eco-friendly materials like recycled steel, bamboo flooring, and low-VOC (volatile organic compound) paints. These materials not only lessen the environmental impact, but they also provide a healthier workplace for employees.
Energy Efficiency
Energy-efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems are critical components of modern workplace environments. Using LED lights, smart thermostats, and solar panels reduces energy usage and operational expenses while also helping the environment.
Wellness and Biophilic Design:
Natural light and greenery
Biophilic design (the incorporation of nature into the workplace) is gaining popularity. Offices with plenty of natural light, indoor plants, and green walls provide a tranquil environment that can boost an employee's general well-being and productivity.
Wellness Facilities
Incorporating health facilities such as fitness centers, yoga rooms, and meditation areas into the workplace is a trend that is here to stay. These amenities promote physical and mental wellness, allowing employees to live a more balanced lifestyle.
Technology-integrated workspaces and smart office solutions.
Modern office design relies heavily on technology. Smart office solutions, which include IoT devices, automation systems, and improved security features, help to streamline processes and improve the overall work experience. Top Trends in Office Furniture for Modern Workspaces in Saudi Arabia
In recent years, the office furniture landscape in Saudi Arabia has evolved dramatically, mirroring the global shift towards more dynamic and flexible work environments. As companies in the Kingdom embrace modern workspaces, several key trends have emerged, reflecting both the changing nature of work and the cultural context of Saudi Arabia.
1. Emphasis on Ergonomics and Comfort
One of the most significant trends in Saudi Arabian office furniture is the focus on ergonomics and comfort. With the rise of remote and hybrid work models, employees are spending more time at their desks, making ergonomic furniture a priority. Adjustable chairs, sit-stand desks, and lumbar support are becoming standard features in modern offices. This shift not only enhances employee well-being but also boosts productivity and reduces the risk of work-related injuries.
2. Integration of Technology
As technology continues to advance, office furniture is increasingly designed to integrate seamlessly with various tech gadgets. In Saudi Arabia, where tech-savvy professionals are prevalent, desks with built-in charging ports, cable management systems, and smart furniture that syncs with personal devices are gaining popularity. This integration helps to create a clutter-free workspace and ensures that technology enhances rather than hinders productivity.
3. Modular and Flexible Designs
Modular furniture systems are becoming a staple in Saudi Arabian offices due to their versatility. These systems allow for easy reconfiguration of office layouts to accommodate changing needs and team sizes. Modular furniture can be easily adjusted to create collaborative spaces, quiet zones, or private offices, providing a dynamic environment that supports different working styles and promotes flexibility.
4. Embracing Local Aesthetics and Culture
Incorporating elements of local culture and aesthetics into office design is a growing trend in Saudi Arabia. Furniture pieces that reflect traditional Arabian designs, such as intricate woodwork or geometric patterns, are being combined with modern elements to create a unique and culturally resonant workspace. This fusion not only creates a welcoming and inspiring environment but also reinforces a sense of identity and belonging among employees.
5. Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Materials
Sustainability is becoming a key consideration in the selection of office furniture in Saudi Arabia. Companies are increasingly opting for eco-friendly materials and sustainable manufacturing practices. Furniture made from recycled materials, low-VOC finishes, and energy-efficient production methods are in demand. This trend reflects a growing awareness of environmental issues and a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of office environments.
6. Collaborative and Social Spaces
Modern workspaces in Saudi Arabia are moving away from traditional cubicles and towards open, collaborative areas that foster teamwork and communication. Furniture designed for collaborative spaces, such as modular seating arrangements, movable partitions, and lounge areas, is becoming more common. These designs encourage spontaneous interactions and brainstorming sessions, which are essential for innovation and team cohesion.
7. Wellness and Biophilic Design
The focus on employee wellness is another prominent trend in Saudi Arabian office furniture. Incorporating biophilic design elements, such as natural light, indoor plants, and materials that mimic nature, is gaining traction. These features create a healthier and more pleasant work environment, which can enhance mood, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.
8. Customization and Personalization
As businesses in Saudi Arabia recognize the importance of employee satisfaction, there is a growing demand for customizable and personalized office furniture. Options that allow employees to adjust their workspace according to their preferences—such as customizable desk heights, personalized seating options, and individual storage solutions—are becoming more prevalent. This trend helps to create a workspace that is tailored to the needs and preferences of each employee, promoting greater engagement and productivity.
Conclusion
The trends in office furniture for modern workspaces in Saudi Arabia reflect a broader global shift towards more flexible, ergonomic, and culturally attuned environments. As companies continue to adapt to changing work dynamics and prioritize employee well-being, these trends are likely to evolve further, shaping the future of office design in the Kingdom. Embracing these trends not only enhances the functionality and aesthetics of office spaces but also contributes to a more productive and satisfying work experience.

How Layout Design Helps Improve Productivity: The Impact of Office Layout on Productivity
In today's dynamic work environment, office workplace design plays a crucial role in shaping employee productivity and well-being. The layout of an office space can significantly impact factors such as collaboration, creativity, and overall job satisfaction. In this blog, we'll explore how office design ideas and modern offices contribute to enhancing productivity and the importance of sustainable building design in creating healthy work environments.
The Importance of Office Workplace Design
Office layout design goes beyond aesthetics; it directly influences employee performance and organizational success. Here's how:
1. Collaboration and Communication
An open and flexible office layout encourages spontaneous interactions among employees, fostering collaboration and idea-sharing. Shared spaces, such as breakout areas and collaborative zones, facilitate teamwork and communication, leading to innovative solutions and increased productivity.
2. Employee Well-being
A well-designed office environment promotes employee well-being by providing ergonomic furniture, ample natural light, and indoor plants. These elements contribute to a comfortable and healthy workspace, reducing stress and fatigue and enhancing employee morale and productivity.
3. Flexibility and Adaptability
Modern offices prioritize flexibility and adaptability to accommodate changing work styles and preferences. Modular furniture, movable partitions, and adjustable workstations allow employees to customize their workspace according to their needs, promoting efficiency and productivity.
4. Brand Identity and Culture
Office design reflects the organization's brand identity and culture, influencing employee engagement and loyalty. A thoughtfully designed office space that aligns with the company's values and vision creates a sense of belonging and pride among employees, driving motivation and productivity.
The Impact of Office Layout on Productivity
Numerous studies have explored the relationship between office layout design and productivity, yielding valuable insights into the key factors that influence employee performance. Here are some notable findings:
1. Open Plan vs. Cubicle Layouts
Research suggests that open-plan offices promote communication and collaboration but may also lead to distractions and reduced privacy. Cubicle layouts, on the other hand, offer more privacy but may inhibit collaboration and social interaction. The ideal office layout strikes a balance between openness and privacy to maximize productivity.
2. Natural Light and Biophilic Design
Studies have shown that access to natural light and greenery in the workplace has a positive effect on employee well-being and productivity. Biophilic design elements, such as indoor plants and outdoor views, enhance mood, creativity, and cognitive function, leading to higher levels of productivity.
3. Ergonomics and Comfort
Poor ergonomics can lead to discomfort and musculoskeletal issues, negatively impacting employee productivity. Office furniture and equipment should be designed to support proper posture and movement, reducing the risk of injuries and fatigue and promoting productivity.
4. Noise Levels and Acoustics
Excessive noise levels in the workplace can be distracting and disruptive, affecting concentration and productivity. Strategic use of sound-absorbing materials, acoustic panels, and designated quiet zones can help mitigate noise and create a conducive work environment for focused tasks.
The Role of Sustainable Building Design
In addition to promoting productivity and well-being, sustainable building design contributes to environmental conservation and long-term sustainability. Green building features, such as energy-efficient lighting, water-saving fixtures, and eco-friendly materials, reduce environmental impact and operating costs while creating healthier indoor environments for occupants.

Tumblr media
The shift towards remote work has revolutionized our professional lives, making hybrid work models more prevalent than ever before. This evolution necessitates a reimagining of office design to accommodate both in-office and remote employees. Crafting spaces that cater to hybrid work models is not just about aesthetics; it’s about functionality, productivity, and employee well-being.
Let’s dive into how we can create effective and inspiring environments for the modern workforce.
Understanding Hybrid Work Models
Hybrid work models blend the flexibility of remote work with the structure of in-office work. This approach allows employees to split their time between working from home and being present in the office. To support this model, office designs must be versatile, offering spaces that cater to various work styles and tasks.
Benefits of Hybrid Work Models
Flexibility: Employees can choose where they are most productive.
Work-Life Balance: More control over their schedules helps reduce burnout.
Cost Savings: Reduced need for large office spaces lowers overhead costs.
Key Elements of Hybrid Office Design
1. Versatile Workstations
Gone are the days of rigid cubicles. Hybrid workspaces require flexible workstations that can be easily reconfigured. This could include:
Hot Desks: Unassigned desks for employees who come in periodically.
Collaboration Zones: Areas with large tables and comfortable seating for team meetings.
Quiet Zones: Dedicated spaces for focused, individual work.
2. Technology Integration
Seamless technology integration is crucial in hybrid work environments. Ensure your office is equipped with:
High-Speed Internet: Essential for video conferences and online collaboration.
Video Conferencing Tools: High-quality cameras, microphones, and screens in meeting rooms.
Cloud-Based Systems: For easy access to documents and collaboration tools.
3. Wellness Areas
In contemporary office design, the health and happiness of workers is a top priority. Incorporate spaces that promote physical and mental health, such as:
Breakout Rooms: For relaxation and informal meetings.
Fitness Areas: Small gyms or yoga spaces to encourage physical activity.
Green Spaces: Indoor plants and natural light to enhance mood and productivity.
4. Ergonomic Furniture
Comfort is key to preventing workplace injuries and maintaining productivity. Invest in ergonomic furniture like:
Adjustable Desks: Allowing employees to switch between sitting and standing.
Supportive Chairs: Providing proper back and neck support.
Monitor Stands: To ensure screens are at eye level, reducing strain.
5. Sustainable Design
There is no such thing as a passing trend; sustainability is a fundamental need. Design your office with eco-friendly practices in mind:
Energy-Efficient Lighting: Use LED lights and natural daylight wherever possible.
Recycled Materials: Furniture and décor made from recycled or sustainable materials.
Waste Management Systems: Promote recycling and composting within the office.
Creating a Home Office that Works
A significant aspect of hybrid work is ensuring that employees have a productive home office setup. Guide your team with tips on creating an effective home workspace:
Dedicated Space: Encourage employees to set up a specific area for work to maintain focus.
Proper Equipment: Ensure they have access to essential tools like a reliable computer, high-speed internet, and ergonomic furniture.
Minimize Distractions: Advice on ways to reduce interruptions, such as noise-canceling headphones and a tidy workspace.
Designing for Collaboration and Connection
Maintaining a strong team dynamic in a hybrid model can be challenging. Wellness-focused office interiors should foster collaboration and connection, both in-person and virtually.
Collaborative Spaces
Create environments that encourage teamwork:
Open Plan Areas: For spontaneous discussions and brainstorming sessions.
Meeting Rooms: Equipped with collaborative tools like whiteboards and screens.
Casual Gathering Spots: Lounges and kitchens where informal conversations can spark ideas.
Virtual Collaboration
Enhance remote teamwork with technology that bridges the gap between home and office:
Virtual Meeting Platforms: Invest in reliable software for seamless communication.
Online Collaboration Tools: Platforms like Slack, Trello, or Asana to manage projects and tasks.
Regular Check-Ins: Schedule consistent virtual meetings to keep everyone connected and engaged.
