How to Look for the Best Apartment Cleaning Services in Your Location?
Tumblr media
Are you going to give your apartment a deep cleaning? The mess that you create throughout the year is not easy to clean. In your busy schedule, cleaning all the mess becomes a headache. Besides, there are thousands of wastages that you cannot dispose of personally. That’s when you decide to hire professional house cleaning in Melbourne for pristine clean and spotless premises. These dedicated agencies promise to make your home sparkling clean and ensure you get the best service at an affordable price. But, how do you know that your hired service is eligible to meet your criteria? Check out their must-have features here.
Number of Years in the Business
Before hiring a service, ask them how many years they are in the business. Experience plays a vital role in this sector. The more years they're functional in this domain, the more experience they will gather. The house cleaning services must know where they have to clean and what equipment they should use. When an agency is in the business for more than ten to twenty years, they know what gathers mess in a house. The cleaners should know where they can reach using which equipment and this knowledge will be of utmost importance.
The Contract Type They Offer
Different cleaning services offer different cleaning techniques. Whereas some customers want a regular cleaning, others look for a contractual cleaning program. The demands of on-call services are too high. Read the clauses well and make sure you understand all of them. Doubt can create huge confusion. So, confirm once before sealing the deal finally.
Cost
Whatever service you're going to take, the cost is the most important thing to consider. Make sure you choose a service where your budget doesn't increase. When you can manage the service within your budget, the process becomes much easier.
Comprehensive Service
When you clean your house after almost a year there are so many things to clean up. To get a complete guide where you can dwell, professionals offering home cleaning in Kew have to fix certain things. Now, there is no option other than a comprehensive service. Go for a package offering comprehensive services at a pocket-friendly price.
Area Of Expertise Matters
Every cleaning company has an area of expertise that determines how the service will benefit you. Ask your hired agency what their area of expertise is. When such factors become clear to you, the task becomes a breeze. Time is equal to money. So, your budget is also not affected. Some companies may have expertise in several fields. In that case, you have to know how efficiently they serve various domains.
Cleaning Tools and Consumables
Apartment cleaners use cleaning tools such as vacuum cleaners and spray. Ask them whether they will bring them or you have to provide them with the cleaning tools. Also, ask them about the sprays. If you have children and pets, chemical sprays would be very dangerous for you.
So, these are some basic aspects that you need to consider when hiring one of the best cleaners in Richmond. They are the primary deciding factors for price and quality. Never compromise with quality for price. Choose a service provider who offers you a combination of quality and affordability.

Day 14 of 31 Days of Ficmas!  @doctorroseprompts
10xRose, The Doctor’s Daughter Fixit.  Features Bad Wolf!Rose :)
@timepetalsprompts Bingo - Piper - badassery, Mum!Billie; Characters - TARDIS saving the day (technically), brave Martha Jones, tenacious Jenny
Clean/G-rated
Ficmas Masterlist 2017, Day 14
AO3
Waking up to find herself on the wrong side of the collapsed wall from the Doctor and Donna, Martha couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the situation.  Even though she knew logically it wasn’t the Doctor’s fault, she couldn’t help but blame him just a little.
Spotting the injured alien lying beside her, Martha forgot about the Doctor and became Doctor Jones. “I’ve got you,” she soothed her patient, carefully inspecting his shoulder.
Twenty minutes later, she’d made friends with the Hath and been taken to headquarters.  When the overlay appeared on the map and the rest of the army marched off, she and her new friend started heading for the surface to try to stop all hell from breaking lose even further.
Only when she turned the final corner to the staircase, there was a blonde woman already halfway up the steps.
“Hey!”  Martha called, and the woman spun around.
“Hello,” she said cautiously; both women held up their hands in peace.
Martha slowly made her way up the steps to greet her.  “Hang on – are you Jenny?”  She hadn’t had much of a chance to look at the girl from the machine before the explosion, and though the clothing wasn’t right she did looked very similar. Though, hadn’t the Doctor said the girl was with him?
“No.  Who’s Jenny?”  The woman stared back, equally curious.  “And who’re you, anyway?”
“Jenny came out of the machine.  She was born, sort of, from a friend of mine.  Or at least, a tissue sample,” Martha explained.
“Oh.  No, I’m human,” the other woman reassured her before frowning. “What do you mean born from a tissue sample and a machine?”
“The humans here, they have this machine where they stick your hand in, take a tissue sample, and create a person from it in seconds.”
“Ah.”  The woman shifted uncomfortably, before holding up her hand.  Still an angry red, it was the same mark the Doctor had.  “Like this?”
“Yes!”  Martha exclaimed.  “Did they make a new soldier from you as well?”
“Don’t think so,” she replied practically.  “They stuck my hand in the thing and took the sample, I suppose, but then the machine let me go without doing anything.  I took the chance to run.”
“So you’re not with them?”
The woman shook her head.
“Right.  When was this?”
She tilted her head in thought.  “Thirty, forty-five minutes ago?”
Martha stared, calculating in her head.  “Well, that confirms it.  I think your tissue sample got mixed with my friend’s; the girl looks a hell of a lot like you and nothing like him.”
“Oh, my mother’ll love that,” the woman sighed, rolling her eyes.  “Though a grandchild’s a grandchild, I suppose.  Not like she hasn’t already accepted any she’d get from me would be alien.”
Martha grinned.  “I’m actually on my way to meet up with them – would you care to join me?”
The Hath behind her gurgled, and Martha rolled her eyes at its sudden bravery.  “Correction, would you like to join us?”
“Sure, beats being on my own.  I’m – Marion.”
“Martha.”
The woman grinned. “Fantastic.”
-
Stumbling down the steps together they moved slowly, still shocked by the Hath’s sacrifice.  Marion had fallen into a crater, almost drowning; the alien had jumped in and pushed her up far enough that Martha could pull her out, but they were unable to save him before he went under.
As they came around the corner, Martha almost collapsed in relief.  “Doctor!”
“Martha!”  He crowed, and they threw themselves into each others arms, hugging tightly.  He spun her slightly before setting her down to introduce her.  “Martha, my daughter Jenny.  Jenny, Martha.”
Martha stepped forward to hug Donna and Jenny, before spinning around.  “Oh!  I picked up a companion as well,” she explained, seeing Marion waiting in the darkness; she was staring at the Doctor, mouth open.
“Oh really? Who?”  The Doctor asked, brow furrowing.
“Technically, Jenny’s mum. They tried to process her just before we arrived, only there was a fault in the machine and it let her go.”
“That’s no guarantee-” he started, but Martha talked over him.
“Trust me, Jenny’s her spitting image.  They’re definitely related.”
“Ah.”
The Doctor rubbed the back of his neck while Donna smirked.  “Oh, I’d love to see that custody battle.”
Martha gestured for Marion to step forward into the light.  The woman did, speaking softly.
“I think we’ll be able to work something out.”
Martha was looking at the Doctor when Marion spoke; she saw him freeze, mouth falling open.  He blinked slowly several times; his mouth moved, but no sound came out.  Marion stepped forward further, fully into the light.
“Bloody hell,” Donna breathed, looking between the two blondes as she took in the resemblance.
Martha, Donna, and Jenny all stared at the Doctor and the woman, waiting for one of them to speak, feeling somehow as though they were intruding on a private moment.
Finally, Marion was the one to break the silence.  “Doctor?”
His eyes closed, and his lower lip trembled.  “If this isn’t real…” he warned, the Oncoming Storm warring with a terrible grief.
“Doctor,” she repeated softly, moving to stand in front of him.
When his eyes opened his companions gasped, seeing the unusual display of emotion.  Martha and Donna exchanged looks, both understanding who this woman was.
“Rose,” The Doctor breathed, looking down at Marion – Rose – in awe.
“Hi honey, I’m home,” she giggled, throwing her arms around him as he swept her up, holding her much tighter than he had Martha just moments before.
“You’re late.  I was expecting you ages ago,” he joked weakly, swaying with her in his arms, her toes barely brushing the ground.
“Sorry, traffic was awful,” she laughed, tears falling.
“I don’t understand,” Jenny muttered, and Donna and Martha looked at each other, not wanting to explain.
Before her parents could explain the sound of the human army breaking through echoed up to them.
“That’s the general, we haven’t got much time,” the Doctor winced, placing Rose on the ground and taking her hand.
“But we don’t even know what we’re looking for,” Donna reminded him, and Martha sniffed the air.
“Is it me, or do you smell flowers?”
“Yes!  Bougainvillea,” he breathed, understanding lighting his face. “Allons-y!”  He took off, pulling Rose behind him.  Laughing, it only took her a few steps to fall into sync as though no time had passed.
The couple raced off together, Martha, Donna, and Jenny trailing behind.  They burst into a luscious garden, and the Doctor followed his nose straight to a glowing sphere in the middle of the room.  He looked around in awe, his hand still clutching tightly to Rose as though afraid she’d disappear if he let go.
“What is it?”  Rose asked, staring at the swirling colors inside the glass.
“Terraforming.  It’s…” he inspected it quickly.  “A third generation terraforming device.”
“So why are we suddenly in Kew Gardens?”  Donna wanted to know, and he shrugged.
“That’s what it does – like earlier, with Luke and the Sontarans.  Makes the planet habitable for the designated species.  In this case, human and Hath.  It’s in a transit state-” he started to explain, still taking it all in, but was cut off by both armies arriving in the clearing at the same time.
“Stop!”  He cried, letting go of Rose’s hand to step forward, throwing out his hands.  “Hold your fire!”
Guns cocked on both sides, humans and Hath taking careful aim at each other.
“What is this, some kind of trap?”  Cobb accused, gun trained steadily on the Doctor.
“You said you wanted this war over,” the Doctor reminded him.
“I said I wanted this war one!”  He cried.
“You can't win. No one can. You don't even know why you're here. Your whole history, it's just Chinese whispers. Getting more distorted the more it's passed on,” the Doctor explained desperately, trying to keep the peace.  He pointed to the sphere.  “This is the Source.  This is what you're fighting over.  A device to rejuvenate a planet's ecosystem.  It's nothing mystical.  It's from a laboratory, not some creator.  It's a bubble of gases, a cocktail of stuff for accelerated evolution.  Methane, hydrogen, ammonia, amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids. It's used to make barren planets habitable.  Look around you!  It's not for killing, it's bringing life.  If you allow it, it can lift you out of these dark tunnels and into the bright, bright sunlight!  No more fighting.  No more killing.”
Lifting the sphere with both hands, he shouted, “I’m the Doctor, and I declare this war over!”  He threw it to the ground where the glass shattered and the gasses escaped, swirling up and around before heading off to do their job as both sides looked on with amazement, laying down their weapons.
All but one.
The Doctor turned to Rose and Jenny, who hurried up to him.
“What’s happening?” Their daughter asked breathlessly, and he beamed down at her.  He may have struggled to accept her as his own, but knowing that she was part Rose as well sealed her in his hearts.
“The gases will escape and trigger the terraforming process,” he quietly explained, eager to teach her about the universe.
“What does that mean?” Rose asked, smiling up at him as she relished his presence.
“It means a new world,” he told his girls, certain he’d never been happier.
Jenny gave a giggle, and happened to glance over in time to see Cobb raise his pistol.
Reacting on instinct, she cried “No!” as stepped in front of her father.
The gun fired, and Jenny was yanked back as Rose stepped forward.
The bullet hit her straight in the chest and she gasped in pain, one hand immediately coming up to the wound.
“Rose!”  The Doctor cried in a panic, catching her as she collapsed.
“Ow,” she muttered, dimly aware of the soldiers forcing Cobb to his knees, focusing instead on her partner.
“Rose?  Rose!  Talk to me, love,” the Doctor begged, laying her down flat as he applied pressure to the wound.
“Long time no see,” she joked weakly, feeling herself fading fast.  She could hear Donna and Martha mutter to each other, but paid them no attention.
“Yeah, been busy.  Rose, please don’t die,” he begged, but she knew it was futile, could feel it in her bones.
“I love you,” she told him firmly, one hand coming up to rest on his.  “And I’m so glad I got to see you again.”
“This isn’t it, Rose, it’s not.”  He wasn’t ashamed of the tears falling down his eyes as he pleaded with her, with the Universe itself.
“Jenny?”
“I’m here.  Mum.”  The girl sniffled, cuddling up next to her side.
“Mum.  Like that,” Rose muttered.  “Love you.”  She tried to focus on the girl’s face, but it swam in and out of focus.  “Love you both.”
“Love you too,” Jenny whispered.
“Love, don’t leave me,” the Doctor begged, furious with himself for not being able to say the words even at this moment, his last chance.
Rose’s lip twitched up just before the light in her eye dimmed, and her heart beneath his fingers stopped.
“No.  No.  NO!” The Doctor roared, rising up and stalking over the general, grabbing the pistol from the ground and aiming between the man’s eyes.
“Dad,” Jenny called softly, but he ignored her.
“You took her from me,” his voice shook with rage, though his hand was steady.  “You took her.”
Cobb stared resolutely up at him, resigned to his fate but still unapologetic.
The Doctor cocked the gun.
“Dad,” his daughter called again, a different tone to her voice, but he paid her no mind.
A small, logical part of his mind said killing Cobb wouldn’t make up for losing Rose at Canary Wharf, but the dark voice always inside his head suggested he find out for sure.
But he could hear Rose in his head, could hear her talking him down, and he slowly lowered the gun, arm shaking with effort.
“I never would,” he told Cobb.  “Have you got that?  I never would!”
He turned to the Hath, looking between them and the humans as he commanded, “When you start this new world.  This world of Human and Hath... remember that! Make the foundation of this society a man who never would!”
Throwing the gun away in disgust he walked back to Rose’s body, sinking to the ground on the other side of her from Jenny.
If he stared hard enough he could almost pretend her chest was moving, that she was breathing.  He reached out one trembling finger to trace her features before bringing both hands to his face, sobbing for her as he had never allowed himself to before, his final hope extinguished.
“Dad!”  Jenny’s impatient hiss made him look up at her.
“What?”  He didn’t mean to snap, but she didn’t seem offended as she just smirked at him.  “What?” He repeated through gritted teeth when she didn’t answer.
“Don’t think I’ve ever seen you cry before.”
Blinking at the voice he never expected to hear again, he looked down to see Rose grinning up at him.
“What?”  He could only stare, dumbfounded, sure he’d finally gone off the deep end.  “You’re dead.”
She waved at him.  “Actually, I’m Rose.”
He shook his head. “You’re dead.  Rose, you died in my arms.”
“Yep.”  She popped the word like he always did.  “Then I got better.”
He didn’t laugh like she obviously expected.
“Rose…”
She sighed, sitting up with a wince.  A quick glance told her that the Hath and humans had let them have their privacy to grieve.
“Ugh, I’m never gonna get the blood out of this shirt,” she muttered, pulling the sticky wet material away from her.
“Rose!”
She looked over at him, taking in the tear tracks on his face and reaching up to wipe them away with her clean hand.  “Yes, I died. And when I was dead, I could hear it – I could hear her.  The TARDIS.  She told me to wake up.  So I did.”
“Just like that?”  He asked in disbelief.
She bit her lip.  “I also heard a wolf howl.  I… Doctor, I think it had something to do with Bad Wolf.”
Just when he thought nothing more could surprise him, something always did.  “Bad Wolf?  But I thought that was done?”
Rose shrugged. “Apparently not.”
“Right.”
They just stared at each other until Jenny got impatient.
“What happens now?”
“Back to the TARDIS,” the Doctor decided, rising and helping his girls to their feet.  “We’ll figure it out from there.”
Still weak, Rose leaned on him the whole way though she focused her attention on getting to know Jenny, leaving him free to ponder his family.
His family.
With a sudden jolt, he realized that for the first time since he’d left Susan behind, he had a true family made of blood.
Certainly each companion became family while they traveled with him, and stayed that way for the rest of their lives whether they saw him again or not.
But this was blood.
Blood that wanted him, as is.  With the running, and the saving, and the travelling.
He had a family again.
Despite his earlier words to Donna, he knew he’d do whatever it took to keep them safe and with him.
He wouldn’t fail them this time.
His family.
Make the TARDIS had known where she was going after all.

Instant Pot Ground Beef Taco Meat from Frozen
This Instant Pot Ground Beef Taco Meat is so easy to make and starts with frozen ground beef.  Extra lean ground beef, low sodium beef broth and a homemade taco seasoning blend make a delicious taco meat that’s perfect for busy weeknights.
Instant Pot Ground Beef from Frozen
One of the most common questions people ask about my Instant Pot recipes is how to adapt them for frozen meat. So when I spotted a few recipes for Instant Pot Taco Meat starting with frozen, I kew I had to give it a try.
I started with my favorite homemade taco seasoning.
I then added a completely frozen pound of extra lean ground beef to the Instant Pot. I used 96/4 ground beef for this recipe.
I also use a low-sodium beef broth to keep the meat moist. Cook ground beef from frozen on high pressure for 20 minutes.
When it’s done, I use a ground beef chopper to break up the meat.
Instant Pot Ground Beef
Honestly, I was extremely skeptical of this method. I don’t generally cook any meat from frozen, but I was really interested in testing out this technique. Initially, when the meat was still very hot I found the texture to be a little tough, but as the meat rested and cooled down a bit it was perfect! I cooked a batch of taco meat in a skillet at the same time to compare, and my husband and I both agreed that we couldn’t find a difference in the texture or flavor.
Instant Pot Ground Beef Taco from Frozen
Course: Dinner
Servings: 6
Ingredients
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2/3 cup low sodium beef broth
1 pound extra lean ground beef
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine salt, pepper, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin and cornstarch.
Place frozen ground beef in Instant Pot, add beef broth and top with seasoning mix. Lock lid in place making sure pressure release valve is set to sealing. Set Instant Pot to High Pressure for 20 minutes via manual mode.
Once Instant Pot has counted down from 20 minutes, turn valve to quick pressure release.
Using a wooden spoon or a ground meat chopper, break up cooked ground beef.

girls are pink (nick & louis, 2.6k)
a bit of kidfic for your saturday…..
One of the very first things that Nick had ever learnt about baby girls is that they’re absolutely disgusting. They’re beautiful, especially his little Riya love, but they’re also total messes.
Or at least his is.
“Riya,” Nick says, finally dropping the teabag into Louis’s mug and then fixing her with a look, one that lets her know just how disappointed he is. “I was literally just about to turn the kettle on. Your dad’s ill. He needs his tea. And now I’ve got to go give you” he boops Riya’s nose “a bath, young lady.”
Riya simply looks back at him, questioning. She sucks at her dummy and furrows her eyebrows.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Nick tells her. He slides the mug away from the edge of the counter and then starts walking toward the bathroom. “I can smell you, and to be quite honest, you stink. You’re smelly. My arm feels a little sticky, and I’m really hoping that’s not a present from you.”
“Bet it is, though,” he adds, stopping and peering into the bedroom where he’d last left Louis. He can’t see much, just a mass of white bedcovers, but that’s all right. “He’s sleeping,” he whispers to Riya, and he reaches in after a moment and pulls the door to so that the sound of running water won’t wake Louis up.
“He’s got a bad cold, your dad does,” he says, hoisting Riya up higher on his hip. She’s just turned thirteen months old, and she’s only twenty pounds, but twenty pounds gets to be rather heavy after a while. Nick could not carry her so much - he’s been told countless times that he’s just making her spoilt - but he reckons she’s only little once, and anyway, he can’t stand the way her face crumples whenever he sets her down.
“Really can’t stand it when you’re sad, little Riya love,” he says, walking into the bathroom with her and pushing the door shut with his foot. He stands her up next to the tub, making sure she’s grabbed onto the edge, and then he reaches in and turns the water on. He sticks his wrist under, having long since learnt how to tell the proper temperature without having to rely on that little floating thermometer thing, and he adjusts it until it’s nearly cold before sticking in the stopper and letting the tub fill.
“And now I get to get you out of those nasty clothes,” he says, turning to Riya and wiggling his fingers at her. She grins at him, her dummy falling half out of her mouth, and Nick grabs it before it can fall all the way out and land in the bathwater.
“Give this back to you later,” he says, showing it to her before setting it aside. He leans in and kisses her wispy baby hair, longer behind her ears than anywhere, and she laughs her little baby laugh that Nick loves so much.
“I do love you so much,” he says, working his hands in under her arms and lifting her away from the tub. He puts her on her back, keeping one hand on her belly and reaching for her dummy with the other. He gives it to her right away, so she’ll be occupied and not try to roll off like she always does, and then he sets about getting her out of her soiled clothes.
“Looks like it went mostly up,” he says, checking her leggings for poo before putting them to the side. “All up your back like you like to do. Isn’t that right?”
Riya smiles at him, showing him all her baby teeth that’ve come in, and she makes a sound that sounds a lot like “kew.”
“Cool?” Nick asks, unsnapping her onesie and then starting to roll it up. He knows there’s poo on the back of it, could see a spot when she was leaned up against the tub, and if he rolls it as he’s moving it up and off her body, then he won’t get poo all over her back and in her hair. “It’s not cool, pooing yourself, you know.”
“Ah,” Riya says, putting her dummy in her mouth. Nick knows it’s just baby babble, but he’s still going to believe she’s talking with him. She’s his smartest, cleverest girl, always getting into things she shouldn’t and being amazing.
He grabs both of Riya’s ankles in one hand, pulling her up a bit so that the poo all over her back won’t get all over the bathmat, and with the other one he reaches into the cupboard under the sink for the baby wipes. They’ve learnt to stash baby wipes everywhere. And nappies and dummies and hand sanitiser. He grabs a packet and a clean nighttime nappy, and he knocks the cupboard door back shut with his elbow.
“Messy baby,” he says, as he’s working the packet open with one hand. He grabs three wipes and then tamps down on the packet seal with his elbow to close it back up. “You’re a messy baby girl, aren’t you? Guess it’s a good thing it’s bath night anyway, right?”
Riya pokes her tongue out around her dummy.
“I bet you’re not sorry,” Nick says, working at getting her back clean before he sets about taking her nappy off. “You’re not sorry one bit, are you?”
Riya shakes her shoulders, and Nick laughs.
“Handful,” he calls her, and she smiles at him.
He manages to get her cleaned up without getting poo on himself or on the bathmat, and he stands her back up next to the tub, once again making sure she’s got a good grip on the edge before reaching in and turning the water off. He bins the dirty nappy and slathers hand sanitiser on up to his elbows, and then, finally, he’s ready to give Riya her bath.
She’s good in the bath, Riya is. She sits still now, having learnt the first time they’d bathed her in the big tub instead of in the baby one just how slippery it was being in the water, and she plays with the boats they’d got for her as Nick’s soaping her up. He’s just finished working the baby shampoo into her hair when the bathroom door opens. He turns his head, keeping one hand on Riya’s back and the other on her stomach, and he sees Louis standing there, pale and worn-looking with dark, dark circles under his eyes.
“You’re supposed to be in bed,” Nick says, and Louis shrugs and comes over to sit beside him. He leans up against the wall, knocking his knee into Nick’s and then closing his eyes.
“You were supposed to be making me tea,” he says, his voice sounding absolutely ruined. Nick can barely hear him. “You insisted that I needed it.”
“You do,” Nick says, turning his attention back to Riya. He picks up the rinse cup and starts filling it with water. The sooner he gets Riya clean and in bed the sooner he can see to his Louis. “You do need tea. You also need to be in bed.”
“Bed’s boring without you in it,” Louis grumbles, and Nick laughs as he’s rinsing Riya off.
“Not in front of the little one,” he says, reaching up and grabbing at the towel hanging over the shower curtain rod so he’ll have it handy. He gets another cupful of water and then he tilts Riya’s head back so he can start rinsing out shampoo. He hates this bit the most. It’s just tricky, tilting her head back without tilting all of her back, and he settles in the end for grabbing a flannel, wetting it, and then running it over the top of Riya’s head. Less chance of getting soap in her eyes that way. He can’t stand it when he gets soap in her eyes. She always ends up rubbing them red when he does that, and he always feels awful seeing it.
“She’s only one.”
“And she’s the smartest one-year-old in the world,” Nick returns, lifting Riya out of the bath. He hopes she doesn’t decide to have a wee on him like she’s done before. She doesn’t, though, and he sets her down, working the towel over her quickly so she won’t get cold. “Aren’t you, Riya love?”
Riya grunts and shivers, and Nick goes over her with the towel again just to make sure he’s not left a wet spot behind.
“How about you tell your dad to go back to bed?” Nick asks her, laying her down and then putting her nighttime nappy on her. They’d been using regular ones all the time, right up until she started soaking through them at night. It’d been beyond annoying, having to do washing every day, so she gets nighttime ones now, and there’s been much less washing to do. “Tell him to go back to bed and I’ll be along in just a minute. Kick me if that’s what you’re telling him.”
“That’s not fair,” Louis croaks out behind him. “She’s always kicking.”
“Gets it off you,” Nick says, glancing at Louis over his shoulder. Louis looks so ill and miserable, and it makes Nick’s heart hurt. “Go to bed, Lou. I’ll be in just as soon as I’ve got her down.”
“Naked?” Louis says, hopefully, and Nick laughs and nods his head.
“Sure, love,” he says, “now go on. Off with you.”
Louis gives him a salute as he’s getting to his feet, and he nearly gives Nick a kiss before he thinks better of it.
“Don’t need you sick too,” he says, tracing his finger along Nick’s jaw instead.
“No,” Nick says, even though he’s probably going to end up catching whatever Louis has. He usually does - mostly because he and Louis can’t ever go very long without kissing each other - but he doesn’t mind it so long as it’s not Riya getting sick. She’s only been really, properly sick once in her life, and it was probably one of the worst things Nick’s ever been through. “Don’t need that.”
Louis gives him a weak smile and runs his fingers over Nick’s hair.
“Don’t be long,” he says, trailing his finger along Nick’s ear before letting his hand drop to his side.
“Promise I won’t,” Nick says, and he watches as Louis walks away, pulling his shirt up over his head as he’s going. He tosses it to the side, right in the hallway where Nick can trip right over it, and then he hooks his thumbs into the waistband of his trackies as he’s moving out of sight.
That’s Louis, though, tossing things everywhere no matter how many times Nick’s told him it’s a bad look to the baby, and Nick loves him so much.
“Gotta go look after him,” he tells Riya, turning his attention back to her. She grabs at her feet, and Nick runs a finger across one of them. She kicks at him, and Nick can’t help but laugh. That’s his girl. “Going to look after you and I’m going to look after him. Promise I will, little Riya love.”
He scoops Riya up and holds her close as he’s walking out of the bathroom with her, deciding to get her into her pyjamas before doing her bottle. He’s quick about it, choosing a sleepsuit with the zip instead of the snaps, and it’s a relief that she doesn’t fuss when he puts her in her crib. He gives her a plastic train car just to be sure she’ll stay occupied and not decide to fuss after all, and he almost runs out of the room to get her bottle ready. It takes forever to heat, the bottle does, and he’s sure he’s tapping at the counter a bit too loudly whilst he waits, but he can’t help it. He’s just become anxious to get to Louis.
He’s lucky, though, in that Riya takes her bottle without a fuss, and he’s sure she’s asleep before he’s even got the door to her room closed behind him. He sticks her bottle in the bathroom sink - he’ll get up and see to cleaning it later - and then he heads into his and Louis’s room, pulling off his shirt and then his jeans and his pants as he’s walking over to his side of the bed.
“Nicholas?” he hears, in Louis’s raspy, broken voice, as he’s pulling the covers back, and Nick doesn’t say anything as he’s getting himself settled, spooning up to Louis and then wrapping his arm around Louis’s waist. He pulls him close to his chest, Louis’s skin feeling fiery hot against his, and he works his hand up until it’s resting right over Louis’s heart. After a moment Louis covers Nick’s hand with his own and that’s fiery hot too.
“It’s me,” Nick says, resting his head against the nape of Louis’s neck. “Just me, though. No tea.”
Louis laughs and then coughs.
“That’s okay,” he whispers, squeezing Nick’s hand. “Rather have you anyway.”
“You say that now,” Nick says, pressing a kiss into Louis’s skin. It’s as warm as Riya’s was that time she was really sick. Nick hates that. “You’ll be wanting it again later.”
“I’ll have you make it naked,” Louis says, looking at him over his shoulder. It takes him a minute to find Nick, and when he does, he sets about getting himself turned around. He tangles their legs together, and then he buries his face in Nick’s chest, letting out a very congested-sounding breath.
“You sound horrible,” Nick tells him, wrapping his arms around Louis’s shoulders and planting a kiss in his hair.
“Feel horrible,” Louis says, his lips brushing against Nick’s chest hair. “Feel like I’m gonna die.”
“Don’t do that,” Nick says, idly swiping his thumb across Louis’s too-hot shoulder. “You’re not allowed.”
“Miss me would you?” Louis asks, right before a coughing fit takes over him. Nick thwacks him on the back, and once the fit passes, he works his hand into Louis’s hair.
“Definitely,” Nick says. “Life’s not life without you in it to annoy me into doing things for you. To you.”
“Why Nicholas,” Louis says, through another cough. “That was almost romantic.”
“Was, wasn’t it?” Nick says, rubbing Louis’s back. “You’re going to shut your eyes and think on how romantic that was, aren’t you?”
“Suppose I could,” Louis says, digging his chin into Nick’s chest so Nick will look down at him. Nick does, and Louis is looking back, the circles under his eyes even more pronounced at this angle. “Riya all right?”
“She’s fine,” Nick says, brushing his thumb over Louis’s eyebrow. “She’s sleeping. Like you ought to be.”
“I’ll sleep if you stay,” Louis says, and Nick has to laugh at that.
“Wasn’t planning on going anywhere,” he says, pressing his thumb into Louis’s bottom lip in lieu of kissing him there. “So now you have to sleep.”
“Bossy.”
“You love it.”
“I might,” Louis says, looking at Nick for a long moment before he closes his eyes and buries his face in Nick’s chest. He lets out a breath that sounds awful and wet, and Nick holds him tight, tight as he can. “Love you.”
“Love you too, Lou,” Nick says, resting his chin atop Louis’s head. He exhales and then he closes his eyes.

Herbal Essences’ Newest Shampoos Are Verified By EWG And PETA Approved (YES! YES! YES!)
Herbal Essences may be most known for its 90s shampoo commercials featuring women in the shower doing their best Meg Ryan impression in the When Harry Met Sally restaurant scene (remember the ad slogan “A Totally Organic Experience”?), but now it has two new claims to fame: It’s officially part of PETA’s Beauty without Bunnies family, a green light given to brands that don’t test on animals, marked by a seal featuring a leaping bunny. And earlier this year it became the first mass beauty brand to have the blessing of the Environmental Working Group (EWG) on two shampoos in its Bio Renew collection.
EWG is the non-profit organization behind Skin Deep, a product database built to help consumers identify clean cosmetics and personal care items, making it a thorn in the side of many beauty companies that formulate with ingredients EWG has deemed harmful and hazardous. Nudged by focus groups who told P&G (Herbal Essences’ parent company) that EWG’s insights inform their beauty purchases, Herbal Essences extended an olive branch, bringing lab coats from both sides together to formulate two sulfate-free shampoos.
Since full transparency was required, the project began with P&G inviting EWG to its labs. “We found that we had a lot more common ground,” says P&G’s Senior Scientist Rachel Zipperian. “They were impressed by the level and the rigour of our safety testing, and the number of toxicologists we have on site that they got to meet with.”
EWG has two key lists: one for ingredients that are restricted in certain quantities and another featuring ingredients that are unacceptable, says Zipperian. (For example, silicones are on the unacceptable list which is why both shampoo’s companion conditioners, which include the smoothing ingredient, are currently not EWG verified.) “Once you get to the point that you are just using ingredients that are on their restricted list, you have to actually sit down with them and disclose the levels and amounts of each ingredient in the product.”
After removing sulfates, the brand also had to create a new preservative system, which was tricky due to how long the company wants their hair products to sit on shelves. Reformulating its fruity and floral fragrance, the very thing those 90s ads suggested made the women scream in the shower (or the airplane) was also required, which took six months, says Zipperian. “Herbal Essences has so many sophisticated, complex fragrances. If we went with simple fragrances, things that are one or two ingredients, it would have been a lot easier.”
Herbal Essences also partnered with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, an enormous green space, and the most biodiverse in the world, borrowing the brains of on-site botanists and mining its libraries of plants that’ve been collected for hundreds of years to learn more about the ingredients it uses such as aloe and argan oil. In the middle of a Canadian winter where we’re all most likely suffering from nature deficit disorder, may we suggest pausing Netflix for a sec and watching this short documentary on the collaboration for a hit of some Kew’s majestic trees, lush plants and blooming flowers.

The Bits Of Plastic That Are Polluting The Thames
Thames21's goal is to reconnect communities back to healthy rivers through clean-ups, education, research and pollution prevention projects. To mark the publication of a new report on Thames plastic, Thames21's Kirsten Downer takes a closer look at the weird objects found on the Thames to see what they say about the river’s health... and by extension, our own. 1. Nurdles These little chaps have a sweet name and an innocuous appearance. Many even come in nice pretty colours. But don't be fooled: they pose a threat to our river, and the wider marine environment. Billions of these lentil-sized plastic pellets are shipped around the world as the basic raw material used to make nearly all our plastic products. Unfortunately, increasing amounts of them are accumulating in our oceans and on our shores. Last year a Thames River Watch volunteer found them inland for the first time on the foreshore in Hammersmith. Because nurdles are so small, there's currently no practical way to remove them, unlike plastic bags and bottles. And over time they can fragment indefinitely, meaning they may be mistaken for planktonic food by animals lower down the food chain. How did they end up in the Thames? We need more data, and you can help. Join the Great Winter Nurdle Hunt from 3-5 February. Or, next time you’re on the Thames foreshore, look out for them and post any findings to the Great Nurdle Hunt website. 2. Nerf bullets If you don't have children (or a partner who acts like one), you might not have met these. Nerf bullets are made from a plasticised foam and used in many popular children's toys, notably guns. Just remember: never 'nerf' outside. The plastic will never break down completely. The Thames, and other London tributaries, could do without the added plastic load. 3. Kids sweets: a marriage of sugar and plastic    Exhibit A on left is the remnant of a Whistle Pop, a sweet marketed as 'the lolly pop which could whistle' back in the 1980s. It’s been revived, so it's hard to know if the stem of these we found on the foreshore are historic or recent. We think that Exhibit B, the red ring-shaped piece of plastic, is a Ring Pop — a sweet you can wear on your finger. Sugar aside, plastic gimmicks are another reason to be wary of some kids' sweets. 4. Crowd-sourcing science Since launching in 2014, Thames River Watch has increasingly refined its data, identifying increasing amounts of the waste objects we find on the foreshore, many of which are fragmented or weathered. Occasionally we get stumped, and as a citizen science project we love to crowd-source any quirky items. Last time we did this, several Londonist readers identified the above yellow plastic loop item as part of a two-part bag seal, used to secure a plastic net bag, the kind that marbles come in. 5. Construction plastic   Unsurprisingly, given the amount of building work going on in London, some of the weird plastic we find comes from the construction industry. The tabs to the left are used by workmen to place on either side of panes of window glass, to ensure that nobody walks into them. We think the wedges on the right are used by builders to insert round window frames to get a temporary fit. 6. Complete mystery objects At Thames River Watch you get the chance to marvel at a system that endlessly creates more absurd uses for plastic, with seemingly no sense of the dangers. It's important to identify items because then we can start to work out where they come from, and potentially approach the sector in a pro-active way. We have no idea what the above items above are — if you think you know, contact Thames River Watch programme coordinator AJ McConville: [email protected] 7. Single-use plastic bottles: 2,500 bottles found in one day 2,500. That's genuinely the number of single-use plastic drinks bottles we collected from the Thames foreshore in one day across 11 London sites. It was our biggest ever simultaneous clean-up event; from Kew Bridge in the west to The O2 in the east. There were several sites we couldn't access, so overall we suspect there were more than 3,000 single-use plastic drink bottles on London shores that day. Our new report has more shocking statistics on the problem; we found that nearly half of all plastic bottles found on the Thames are bottled mineral water bottles — completely unnecessary if people use reusable drinking bottles. The One Less campaign aims to ban single-use plastic drinking bottles in London. Considering Delhi has just pledged to go single-use plastic free, surely we can do the same. Thames21 is also calling for a deposit return system, as this has helped solve the problem in other countries. 8. Mysterious mounds in south London The Thames curves and bends through our city, and tends to deposit the heavier, sinking plastic litter on the inside of those bends where the water moves more slowly. Here, you get the wet wipes and sanitary towels deposited from our sewage system during overflows — these both contain plastic. Untold thousands of wet wipes are altering the very shape of the river bank now, with new sand-bank type mounds appearing on the south London foreshore — whole ecosystems of mud and twigs binding themselves to non-biodegradable wet wipes. On one Barnes clean-up, we found 150 wet wipes in just one square metre — and this was just from the surface of the mounds. 9. Isle of Bags The Isle of Dogs deserves a special mention. Tucked inside the largest meander in London, we've often been tempted to call it the Isle of Bags. For this is London's own 'plastic bag gyre' — where all the plastic bags ever used in London, and beyond, seem to end up. On our clean-ups we would often find St Michael and C & A bags, showing just how vintage some of this plastic is. Over the years we've helped remove a large number of plastic bag debris, as these two images show: The first photo shows how the foreshore looked in 2000. The second is taken after nine years of clean-ups in 2009 — a huge amount of plastic has been removed; but it's still returning. Ordinary Londoners, in league with Thames21, have stopped huge amounts of plastic bags breaking down into microplastic and entering the marine environment. We're hoping that the plastic bag charge and related drops in plastic bag use will mean we see fewer bags depositing here in future. You can read more about Thames21's latest plastic research here and see them in action on the Sky News documentary A Plastic Tide. If you want to help us keep the pressure on to reduce plastic in our river, visit the Facebook page, sign up to the regular newsletter or become a volunteer citizen scientist. Join in campaigning for a deposit return system — and sign up to the One Less and Sky Ocean Rescue campaigns.
