Cimetière du Montparnasse
Opened in 1824, the Montparnasse cemetery, which has a surface area of 19 hectares, is the second largest necropolis in Paris, after the Père Lachaise cemetery. Full of trees, the cemetery occupies the former site of three farms, of which a listed tower belonging to one of the flour mills still stands. Among some of the famous works of art at the cemetery is 'Le Baiser' (The Kiss) by the sculptor Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957). Visitors can discover the burial places of famous men and women: Charles Baudelaire, Guy de Maupassant, Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Charles Garnier [and Samuel Beckett]. A haven of peace at the heart of one of the liveliest districts in Paris.

Parks/Cemeteries
1. Yellowstone National Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is how it is often associated with the end of world. This place is home to a super volcano which if it erupted would practically destroy the world. It also is a large forest which could be good for a creepy setting in my game.
2. Banff National Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the large mountains and the massive body of water. I don't think it would be a good setting for my game however it would be for a sea monster or survival type game.
3. Central Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the lamp posts and trees. It would be cool to have the monster hide in the trees and get you by surprise. The lamp posts would also give a logical explanation as to where the light source is coming from.
4. Grand Canyon National Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the large mountains. I wouldn't use this place as a setting simply because there would be no explanation as to where the light is coming from.
5. Yosemite National Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the endless amount of forest. This would be a good setting for my game as trees would give a scary vibe to it kind of similar to the slender games.
6. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place are the tall, slender cliffs. This setting would most likely not work for the setting in my game.
7. Serengeti National Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the flat landscape and the wildlife. I couldn't see this setting working for my game.
8. Everglades National Park
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the swampish look it has which interests me because swamps in folklore are usually witches and ogres live. This could be a good setting for my game however there would still be no logical explanation to where the light is coming from.
9. Kruger National Park
Tumblr media
There isn't much that interests me about this place as I cant see it working as a setting for my game.
10. Hyde Park
Tumblr media
What interests me about this place is the openness of it because an empty open space where it's just you could definitely give off a creepier feel to it. I feel this would be a good setting my game especially during the night. This would also again give an explanation from where the lights are coming from.
11. Pere Lachaise Cemetery
Tumblr media
What interests me about this place is the angel statues because they give off a creepy vibe especially with the fact that the statues are covering their mouths. I feel this would a really good setting for my game as I have this idea that the angel statues could be the source. This could further my point that the lights in my game is supposed to be a guardian angel.
12. Arlington National Cemetery
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the amount of gravestones there are which interests me because you usually wouldn't expect this many. I wouldn't see this as a good setting simply because of how open it is and nowhere the monster could really jump out from.
13. Highgate Cemetery
Tumblr media
What stands out me about this place is how close together everything is. This setting could work for my game as it gives off a creepy feel and the monster could jump out of nowhere, scaring the player.
14. Forest Lawn Memorial Park
Tumblr media
Again this one is too open and couldn't really work as a setting for my game.
15. Mount Of Olives Jewish Cemetery
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this one is the large amount of coffins stacked on top of this hill. This could work as a setting for my game as I could have coffins open up and have the monster jump out of those however, there would be no explanation for a light source.
16. La Recoleta Cemetery
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this one is again the angel statues as they would be able to work with the guardian angel idea I have for the lights.
17. Cimetiere Du Montparnasse
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the central building. I feel this could be a good setting for the game as the gravestones could become a maze and getting to the central part could be the goal of the game.
18. St. Louis Cemetery No. 1
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the pointed gates and the almost abandoned look that it has. This place also feels creepy considering the fact a voodoo queen was buried there. I feel this would be a good setting for my game as the abandoned look would make more sense for why there is no one else except you in the game.
19. Okunoin Cemetery
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is the long path with the slender trees. I think this would be a really good setting for my game. It has an explanation for the lights and the long trees alongside being in graveyard give off an eerie feel which I like.
20. Waverley Cemetery
Tumblr media
What stands out to me about this place is how scenic it is. I wouldn't use this as setting for my game just because it doesn't look as scary as other ones I've seen.

Paris Cemeteries in canon era
DELIGHT  The Cemetaries of Paris were considered a tourist attraction
which means Galignani covers them in detail!
Some relevant notes:
-In 1804, an imperial decree was issued, repeating the prohibition of interment in churches, or within the bounds of a town. High ground exposed to the north, was, by this decree, to be chosen for cemeteries ; and every corpse was to be interred in a separate grave, from a metre and a half to two metres deep, and the earth to be well trodden down. There was to be a certain distance between the graves, which were not to be re- opened till after five years. Another imperial decree, in 1811, consigned the whole funeral business of the metropolis to one company of undertakers-general,* arranged funerals into six classes, and appointed a tariff, whereby the expense of every separate article and assistant was determined. This decree is still in force.
-The cemeteries of Paris are five in number, viz. the Cimetiere de Monmartre, the Cimetiere du Pêre La Chaise, that of Vaugirard, that of Ste.Catherine, and that of Montpamasse. They are laid out in a pic- turesque style ; the monuments are generally in good taste, and many of the inscriptions are interesting. These burial grounds may be considered as public pro- menades; parties are made to visit them; and in their neighbourhood are established guinguettes, where refreshments may be obtained. On Sundays, in particular, they are the resort of the inhabitants of the capital.
-Montmartre cemetery is full of noteable monuments; built on an old gypsum quarry, it’s considered especially scenic by Galignani.
-”The cemetery of Pêre La Chaise is appropriated to the interment of the inhabitants of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th arrondissements only, except in the case of the purchase of ground for ever, when remains may be brought there from any part of the capital, or even, of the kingdom.”
- The Cemetery de Vaugirard: “This cemetery is situated beyond the barrier de Sevres, at the entrance of the village of Vaugirard ; and the gate by which it is entered, at No. 7, on the left, is marked by a cross. It is the second cemetery that was opened, and consists of a small plain surrounded by walls. This being the burial-place of the patients from the Hotel- Dieu, and of the inhabitants of the faubourg St.-Jacques, who are for the most part poor, it possesses few monuments worthy of notice.”
- The Cemetery du Montparnasse was opened July 25, 1824; so Galignani doesn’t have too many monuments there to note, but says “In this cemetery, as well as in the others, there are some striking epitaphs but many will be met with that are only remarkable for their absurdity.”
- The Cemetery de Ste-Catherine is in a working class/ poor quarter; monuments are rare. Interments were discontinued in 1815, so no one dying after that is going to be buried here!
Apparently even Montmartre and Pere Lachaise at this point have some space set aside for “common graves”-- graves for unclaimed bodies or those with no surviving relatives willing or able to afford a fancier funeral.   These graves (and indeed most graves) were only held for five years, which was considered enough to decompose the body.  After that they were dug up, unless the plot of land had been purchased.

Henri Fantin-Latour Ignace Henri Jean Fantin-Latour (January 14, 1836 - August 25, 1904) was a French painter and lithographer. Born Henri Jean Theodore Fantin-Latour in Grenoble, Rhone-Alpes, France, he studied at the ‘Ecole des Beaux-Arts’ in Paris. He is best known for his flower paintings and group portraits of his friends Parisian artists and writers. His work strongly influenced the symbolist movement of the late 19th Century. Whistler brought attention to Fantin-Latour in England. In addition to his paintings, Fantin-Latour created ingenious lithographs demonstrating the music of some of the great classical composers. In 1876, Fantin-Latour married a fellow painter, Victoria Dubourg, after which he spent his summers on the country estate of his wife's family at Bure, Orne in Basse-Normandie, where he died of lyme disease. He was interred in the ‘Cimetiere du Montparnasse’, Paris, France. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #design #words #pictures #french #ecoledesbeauxarts #frenchsalons #salondesrefusés #flowers #painting #portraiture #lithography #realism #symbolism #victoriadubourg #ignacehenrijeanfantinlatour #edwinedwards #henrifantinlatour (at France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTRnkGcsAct/?utm_medium=tumblr

Read the full article
